Great park nestled in San Mateo next to the performing arts academy. It has a large play structure with multiple routes to climb and a twisty slide. It also has a set of bucket swings and 2 sets of regular swings. There is a walking path around the play structure and benches to sit on. I like that the park is away from the street. Joinville Park is a nice sized public park in San Mateo, CA. It's also known as "Bayside/Joinville park, " as it's adjacent to the Bayside Academy. So I went for a walk and visited the park. It's pretty easy to drive pass the entrance. The walk-in path is at Kehoe Ave & Kelly St. There's also a driveway leading to a common parking lot with Bayside Academy. It's not clearly marked, and it looks like you're driving into a school campus. So, I parked on the street. Based on the photos someone posted 12 yrs ago, this park hasn't changed much. It's looks fairly well maintained, and pretty clean of litter and dog turds. It has a cool walking path that goes by the Mariner's Lagoon. Excellent park with a lot of cool features, such as the softball fields, soccer fields, access to water, tennis courts, playground and restrooms. Been to this park twice and both times the restrooms have had HUGE toilet paper wads stuck to the wall. It's quite an extravagant sight but also kind of gross. read more

This really is a lovely park that seems to be overlooked by many people in the area which is a bit of shame but also a positive as it's never too busy. I guess with so many nice parks in the area there is a lot to choose from. The park has many facilities including Ball Fields, Playground, Picnic Area's, Tennis courts and even 2 Pools (outdoor, of course). With the Picnic area's here it is possible to make reservations which can be done through their website which is great if you're organizing an outdoor party or if you fancy your odds there are also tables which are free for all. Great place to come to wear out Children, walk the Dog, or just chill out. read more

This review is strictly for the dog park. The dog park is beautiful. However, this was my first time coming here and I came across the most rudest person ever. The play structure is a bit run down but still fun for kiddos. They have a pool there (check time/hours/days for opening times). Plenty of greenery for kids and adults to run around in. There is a lagoon area in the back with a watershed/pump station. Easy street parking. Off Kehoe on 101. I did not see any public bathrooms but I may be wrong. read more

This review is for the dog park located within Joinville Park. It's a neighborhood dog park with wonderful grass, it's away from the road so quiet, and it has some nice views of the lagoon and SF Bay. There is a water fountain and always plenty of poop bags and trash cans. However, on the negative side is that it's small and there is no separate small dog section (so you should only visit this dog park if your dog gets along with all sizes and breeds of dogs), there is no shade, there are no double-entry gates so the risk factor for dogs running away upon entry is high, parking and the port-a-potty are on the other side of the park, and it can get stinky on hot days at low tide from the baylands and the nearby sewage plant. For all these inconveniences, I still like this dog park better than most in the area due to the grass and quiet location with lagoon water views--it just depends on which amenities are more important to you than others. Seal Point Dog Park across the street is the opposite of Joinville in that it's huge and has ALL the usual amenities right there, but the surface is dirt and it's not a particularly friendly park IMHO. The Foster City Dog Park is only 2-3 miles away and also offers ALL the regular dog park amenities but has constant traffic noise and lots of loud barking from the small dog section plus AstroTurf that gets stinky in hot weather. This is a lovely park tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in a corner of San Mateo. it boasts a great playground, ballfields, walking paths, a two-pool children's swim center, and a brand new, grassy dog park that is still a bit of an experiment. We have enjoyed the dog park and met many great dogs there. It's spartan, with just one bench for humans, one baggie and trash receptacle, and user supplied bowls and jugs for water which have to be refilled several hundred yards away at water fountains--no water yet directly to the fenced in dog park. It's of course a much smaller dog run than nearby Seal Point Park, but the dog population is overall better controlled and friendlier. I hope it does not became a haven for uncaring owners like Seal Point seems to be on the verge of becoming, with more incidents of bad owner behaviors every week. read more

I come here often to walk my dog. The dog park area has one grassy area (real grass) for both small/big dogs - usually see bigger dogs here. I bring my Chi-mix puppy here and she has a great time socializing with all the dogs and their owners and trying to play rough with the big dogs (she thinks she is a big dog. The big dogs usually ignore her). Owners have always been very friendly and responsible. Lately there have been more dogs at the park - maybe because of the warmer weather, so that's awesome. There is also a park area for kids to play in - I see kids there all the time. Also a picnic area where people can bbq. There is a softball field and also a tennis court. read more

I've been a local to the area my whole life, and this park has not changed! It's very spacious, and there's a lot of seating as well as a nice play area for kids. The field is used by children's soccer teams, and the baseball field has been used pretty often. My favorite thing about this park is that there's a dog park! And there are plenty of doggy bag stations, so never fear if you've forgotten to bring your poopie bags! Just don't forget to pick up. To be honest, this park is actually very clean. It's also a bit hidden, I feel like. Because Ryder Park is very large and open, it's probably more popular. I also feel like it's safe here. I've gone out for my jogs here, as well as walked my dog here almost every day. The dog park has been recently seeded, so it's super plush with grass! YAYY. read more

Two Thumbs up for this park.... I have played softball here for years & absolutely love the Dog Park! At night a stinky breeze from the adjacent sewage treatment plant drifts through the air, providing softball players with pungent nostril-filled odors of who knows what. The infield can play a little rough and on cold nights watch out for the long ball, because the ball can really travel. The Dog Park is across the bridge and the back end of the park. I love this place. A 100 yards long by 40 yards wide (give or take), of lush fenced in grass. This is a simple no frills park, with one bench for humans, one trash / doggie-bag dispenser and a few bowls for water. Great place to sniff a few asses, have a pee and run around like an absolute nut! My Boston Terrier's favorite park on the Peninsula! Woof! read more

A neighbor told me about the Joinville doggy park opening a few years ago, and I was one of the first people to use it. As one of my dogs (the male) isn't fixed, I have to be super careful to watch and be sure no other dog will get in a fight with mine, or leave when needed. Almost always have I found a quiet time to be either the only two dogs in the place, or some friendly dogs. Since they opened, they have greatly improved the space, adding much needed water (that sadly seems to be always clogged from sand and bark used in the space), but everyone leaves bowls and other things to use for the dogs for the one working spigot. Most everyone here seems friendly and easygoing, not like some of the other doggy places I've been (notably, Foster City's small dog area). I would prefer to have a small doggy area and large doggy area, but there simply isn't the room. The rest of the park is enormous as other reviews mention here so you can really spend an hour or more walking around the ample grounds and the streets surrounding the park. If I lived in this neighborhood of SM, I'd be sure to use it everyday. Otherwise, it's a special treat for me to take my dogs on a not too hot day as the doggy park doesn't have any. read more

Decent dog park for this area. There's actually green grass, which is unusual and nice. Much smaller than other parks and there's no double gate. When we visited there were only two anti-social dogs there, so we just played fetch for 30 minutes and went home. We'll try it again, though. read more

This review is only for the dog park. The good things are real grass, running water inside the park, lots of baggies and the people are usually really nice. The negatives are it's pretty small, so more than 8 dogs and it's crowded. There are also a lot of holes that I've tripped on and there is NO shade at all. read more

Joinville park has an amazing playground for young kids. It's clean and open and has plenty of room for the kids to run around. There is also fun tennis courts, a large grassy area for soccer or football, and a gated dog park! We love taking our little one over to this park. read more

I called about park lights being out for 3 months (got fixed two weeks ago) men's restroom hasn't had a door for the toilet in years... I bring my puppy to the dog park and realized there isn't a dog limit... A lady literally had 8 dogs in there and couldn't control any of them the park is a beautiful setting but it fells like the parks department for the city of San Mateo doesn't have the man power for all the upkeep the park needs... read more
