I get all my HVAC parts from Johnstone. If you know what you're doing with repairing air conditioners, these guys are all you need to save yourself tons of money. IS IT IN STOCK: Yep. They have just about everything in stock. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Yep. The guys working there have obviously been in the field and can give you all manner of tips and advice. PRICE: I don't have a business account with them so I get the shaft when it comes to pricing, but it's like that at every other HVAC parts house and half the time the others won't even talk to you unless you have a business account. In two different houses, I've decided to replace all of my HVAC registers and intakes, because plastic doesn't last and sometimes metal doesn't either, and I quickly found that the Orange and Blue Big Box Stores don't carry the correct sizes. That's how I found Johnstone Supply. They stock and sell wholesale supplies to the refrigeration and HVAC (that's Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning, not vacuum cleaners, in case you were wondering) contractors, and they will also sell to the public. If you're buying a number of units, they'll give you a better price. I brought in a sample of each HVAC register, and the salesman measured it for me and checked the grid to make sure I was buying the right design and size. He took the time to make sure I understood the return policy so there would be no surprises if I had issues with the parts. He went through the connections I needed which helped a lot when I got home and took everything apart. My A/C shut down on a very hot day. I was freaking out. I had to sleep in a home with an 83 degree temp overnight. Next morning I went to Johnstone supply to pick up a replacement part for my outside unit. The staff knew exactly what I needed and got me out of the store in 5 minutes. The part wasn't working right when I installed it. I ran back to the store and a service tech explained to me that the wiring was incorrect. For the uninitiated, this business has two pricing tiers on the same exact products: The first and lowest price represents a modest markup over what they pay for their inventory in bulk. The second is whatever they think a non-contractor, some schmuck off the street, would be prepared to pay for a part. If you're not an HVAC technician working in the region, prepare to be hustled on parts to the tune of 400-500% over MSRP. When you walk into the store, there are no prices on anything. This is part of the game. You're being sized up. You take your products to the register, and then the clerk disappears briefly behind a computer terminal, reappearing briefly to give you the highest possible price that he believes won't make you laugh in his face and walk out of the store. In one instance, we had the fan stop working on our outdoor AC unit, though the compressor still turned on. However, the fan could be "kickstarted" with a screwdriver placed through the top vent on the unit. No need for a service call to a technician so they themselves can try to rip you off as well: We live in the digital age where Google exists, and plenty of reliable internet sources will tell you that's just a bad run capacitor. It's an issue so common, and a part so trivial to replace, that Amazon can deliver a replacement to your doorstep in 2 business days for $11 and free shipping if you're a Prime member. Even Walmart or Target can have these parts shipped to their stores or your home, if they're more your thing. I kid you not. Oh, and keep in mind that somebody is already making money just selling these parts for $11. However, your experience if you step into Johnstone is they will price out the identical part by the same manufacturer at $46 plus tax! Retail overhead is a thing, certainly, but then there's whatever sort of extreme greed and godless avarice a 400% markup represents. These guys really have no shame. Since capacitor replacements are so common, they even purport to carry an even more expensive "in house" version of the same part that they claim is "Made in the USA" with some proceeds going to "support the troops." So not only are they pretending that the 21st century and the advent of the internet never happened, but they even have the gall to try to take advantage of the patriotism or politics of their customers as part of this ongoing hustle as well. Maybe there is a scenario where somebody would Need, Need with a capital 'N' NEED to shop here. Maybe it's the dead of winter and the heat went out, so it's essentially an emergency calling for the ready availability of parts in the area? Or maybe you're independently wealthy and money has no value to you? But outside of that? There's no reason for a business like this to even exist anymore. Not in this day and age. They're the Blockbuster Video of HVAC supplies. Hell, you're not even empowered to return parts to them without a substantial restocking fee, so it's not like there's a meager benefit there, either. Honestly, just hit up Amazon and wait 2 days for them to deliver your part, and save yourself a mountain of cash in the process. Your money is far too precious for Johnstone Supply Company to be a part of your life. read more

Our air conditioner stopped working on a Friday night. We noticed the capacitor was blown, so we roughed it by sleeping in a hot house til morning. First thing Saturday morning, I headed over to Johnstone for a new capacitor. It felt a little odd being the only woman standing in line waiting for the place to open, but I'm used to it, being the 'fixer upper' around our house. I showed the guy at the counter a picture of my old capacitor, and he helped me pick the right one for my unit. Pricing was way more than was quoted at a couple of other places, but out of convenience I bought it any way (close to $60 :/) Took it home, and me and hubby installed it with no problems. Air is working again and all is well. i will definitely recommend Johnstone for your a/c supplies! read more

Furnace quit blowing warm air so diagnosed and went in to get the part. They had it and gave some advice on installing as it was ceramic, so could be easily damaged. Very friendly and knowledgeable guys. read more

Customer service is terrible. I understand today 7-3-2015 was a holiday and the store was closed. However I had to try to find a condenser fan motor to get my a/c going with the holiday and having family in town, so I removed it and set out to find one. Driving all over Austin, stopping and calling various places. I called Johnstones from the parking lot of a TV station less than a block away from them. I was happy that someone answered the phone, he informed me that he had come in to open the store for a customer and was charging that customer $75 to open up for them. I told him I was less than a minute away an I would like to buy a condenser fan motor, he said he would sell it to me for a $75 additional fee. Now I would have been happy to split the fee for him coming in with the other customer, but charging both of us $75 to come in is just for lack of a better word RAPE. I will not do business with this company and will tell all my friends about my experience. read more

My home AC went out on a Sunday at noon when it was 95 degrees outside. After a little help form a neibhor to figure out what was wrong with my ac they said to call johnstone supply. Well figuring since I had called 5 ac repair places to see about getting a sunday service call and nobody would answer or call back. So i called johnstone supply and they opened up the store on a sunday for a fee and the people there were very nice and helpful, bought my part paid the fee and got my ac fixed by 5pm that day all for 120.00. which would of cost me probably 300-400 for an ac guy to come out.....The people at johnstone supply went above and beyond so that my wife and I and are 2 year old wouldn't have to sleep in a hot house!!! read more
