Pack haphazzardly, like they'd never moved anyone ever. I have never seen anyone pack like this. I was wrapping things in plastic & lead said no they would do that after its on the truck. What? Okay Jethro. After you hit the wall with it? They never did wrap anything. We had 2 - 16' trucks. I told them one was for garage, basement, boxes. They put lawnmower in with bedding & lead was mad to have to repack because he didn't listen. If I had realized I would have sent them packing. I called them that day & said don't send lead to unpack next day. Broke/damaged piano, entertainment center, standing fan, LR chair, 2 dressers & dr mirror. Lost box of boots & shoes. Did not respond to calls. Yes, James I reported the damage to you, you never got back to me. You would not take my calls or return them. This nightmare is no mistake. Worse move of my life. Johnson's Moving recently moved me across the city. It was a larger move than expected and Johnson's added time and help to get my move done on time. They were extremely hard working and very careful. It was great to work with experienced movers who know what they are doing. I appreciated that they arrived early and worked hard and quickly. The movers were polite. However, they damaged several pieces of furniture. I filed a claim. They said I didn't have enough blankets but I had 12 and they never told me they needed more. On the UHaul website where I reviewed them, they cut off the negative remarks I make and only published the positive remarks. Someone at the company claims to have called me about my settlement but I never missed a call from them. Every time I call them, I get a voicemail but their message box is full. They take a long time to respond through the UHaul website as well. It's been 2 months since I moved and I'm still waiting on my settlement. I would not recommend this company. I have moved myself several times and never caused the damage these professionals caused. I am very disappointed with the service and the longer I wait for a response from them, the less understanding I become. read more

I absolutely do not recommend this company. I was sent two men (I believe Skylar and Peyton) to move my one bedroom apartment into a UHaul and they were not only insanely slow, but incompetent. My family moved boxes to the elevator for them to pick up and haul downstairs, they were not proactive, they left tons of space in the UHaul that I had to point out to utilize, and any time I directed something to the truck or dumpster they were gone at minimum 15-20 minutes leaving us wondering what happened. Had I known I needed someone supervising I would have called a friend to come review. It took them FIVE HOURS to move down a one bedroom apartment. When calling the company for a hopeful financial adjustment, all I was told was "well sorry they always get 5 stars." Absolute garbage business. read more

This is a message to all considering using Johnson's Moving and More: do not use them. Especially not if you are queer or transgender. These movers were not only actively reckless and unprofessional, they were downright bigots. Let me set the scene: we have thoroughly packed all of our belongings in boxes, many of them marked "fragile" or "this end up." The boxes have been brought downstairs from our upstairs apartment - that's three flights of stairs - and set at the back gate so that the movers can experience more ease moving them into the van. Besides these boxes, the movers need only grab the larger pieces of furniture and bring them down. Three trans people (myself included) and a cisgender couple were on the scene, ready to help the movers as necessary. Enter the movers, looking visibly high. My cis male friend and I were bare-chested - the only difference between me and him is I have top surgery scars - and the movers immediately clocked my obvious transness and grew stony towards me. Same thing for my partner and close friend (also trans): they were looking at us as though we were monstrous and exchanging looks with each other to this effect. They proceeded to not listen to any of the three of us, finding more appealing the words of my cis male friend (who, by the way, was not the one moving and therefore knew far less about what was going on). They literally only spoke to him or listened to him. At one point when I was trying to give them directions, I just walked away mid-sentence because they were talking over me to him. They didn't seem to care that they were alienating the person paying them. My cis male friend essentially functioned as our translator (forgive the pun), and had to give them directions all night. The transphobia and queerphobia were palpable throughout the night. After repeating our directions 5+ times only to not be listened to, the movers left us without having completed the job. Yes, they somehow left a bookshelf and an easy chair in the apartment despite being told a number of times that those two things should have been some of the first to be brought down. We called them back and they returned in a huff and hastily unpacked a third of the van in order to fit the chair in. We were going to leave the bookshelf in the alleyway for someone to collect, but that plan was foiled when, in their anger, the movers physically threw the bookshelf against a dumpster and kicked the backboard in, effectively destroying it. I wish I were making this up. Rest assured, the movers managed to have plenty of fun. One of them parkoured onto the top of the UHaul we'd rented - literally shouting "Parkour!" as he did so - and when that wasn't enough, he parkoured onto our neighbor's balcony to more celebratory shouts of "Parkour!" from his fellow movers. Glad they could have some fun on the job - if heavily suggesting that they hate trans people weren't enough fun already. When we got to our destination, we discovered that the movers had packed the UHaul horribly. The boxes marked "fragile" were packed underneath non-fragile boxes; "this end up" boxes were upside down; the mattress had been packed last, flush against the roll-up door and soaked from the rain. A room divider had a massive hole in it and countless glass items were shattered. And let me be clear: all of this was pouring out of the UHaul. No tetris-ing, here. Just a mattress guarding against an onslaught of poorly-packed boxes and furniture. We felt kind of like Looney Toons characters opening a cabin door in a snowstorm. Johnson's Moving and More provides dangerously subpar moving services, and the "and more" could be anything from transphobia to parkour. Suffice it to say, I would stay as far away from this company as you can. read more

We booked 4 guys for 2 hours (Sam, devon, william, & michael) through Home Depot/Penske when we did our truck rental yesterday. Wow, these young men busted it from start to finish and we had an entire 26 ft truck unloaded in just over an hour. Since we had more time remaining, they followed us to our storage unit and loaded up what we had there as well. Surprised by all the bad reviews. We had a great experience. Annie called Friday evening to confirm our move on Monday morning at 9am. Nick the mover called at 8am to let us know he was on the way. Nick and Cordell did a great job packing the truck tight. When we made the reservation I only needed help loading the uhaul, but our plan changed and we needed help loading and unloading. I called James prior to the move to let him know of the changes. This update somehow got lost in translation but the movers were able to call their boss and stay for an extra two hours without a problem. Used to load up our belongs for a move from Illinois to Arizona. Our sofa was split in half from being loaded across the trucks wheel wells inside the truck and all the other furniture arrived damaged. We supplied bubble and plastic wrap and neither were used. I moved across the country after selling my house. I received their information through U-Haul, they had high ratings there, and I see why. I had several large furniture items, appliances and a riding mower as well as my personal stuff. They were truly professional. My unpackers at the other end of the move were really impressed at how well everything was packed and protected. No broken items and no shifting during the 14 hour drive. Highly recommend. read more

Dear Chicago - Heres why I will never use this company again: We were scheduled weeks in advance for James (the owner?) and his crew to come move our stuff out at 2 o'clock on a Friday. We even called back a day before to confirm they were coming, which James (the owner?) told us he, personally, would be coming to move our things. Great. We *HAD* to be out of our apartment at 3/330, everything was boxed ready to go, and they told us it wouldn't be a problem. Friday at 2, we waited. By 245, my fiance called to see where they were... James told us he had a crew on their way, and they would be there in 30 minutes. Great. Another 45 minutes went by, and we called again. No answer. By 430, we had started moving our own stuff out of the apartment because we hadn't heard ANYTHING from James at all. Finally at 530 I called from my number, since he wasn't taking calls from my fiance anymore. He answered, happily, until he realized who I was. He told me "not to worry because he had a team on their way, thirty minutes more." I said "you already told us that. we were suppose to be out at 3." he told me they had an elevator break on a different job and he was working on getting people to us... which while i understand is a huge inconvenience to them, he should have answered a call from us, or at least told us that earlier on... So we continued to pack our own stuff into the truck - wrangling a neighbor to help us with the heavy lifting, because at this point it had been another hour and a half and James still hadn't sent anyone, still hadn't called to let us know no one was coming, and still hadn't answered any of our phone calls. Finally 6.5 hours later, two young guys showed up. They helped us get the last few pieces of furniture into the truck, and unloaded at our new place. They were great. They busted their ass, told us they had been on three jobs already that day and then their boss told them "you can just blow off this last one." meaning, go ahead and leave that couple hanging - since i've already ignored them all day. Thank god they didn't because we would have been royally screwed trying to move our shit into our new place on our own. I have nothing but great things to say about those two guys - if they had their own service (which FYI if you're reading this, you should start your own and leave the dickhead boss) i would hire them for any move. I understand unexpected shit happens, but you shouldn't be over scheduling and overworking your employees to the point that no one can be back up if something goes wrong. It's a shame. The kids that moved the stuff were great, but the management is completely incompetent. read more

My wife and I were on a time crunch to locate movers in short time on our move from Washington IL to Peoria, IL. Johnson's Moving & More Inc. came to our rescue! I contacted their manager Mr. Johnson after making our reservation online. I soon knew we were in good hands. I immediately could sense Mr. Johnson's experience as he seemed knowledgeable and very professional in our brief conversation. When our movers Cordell and Nick arrived the day of the move, they started right away! They, too, were professional and courteous to our belongings. We scheduled a move for 7 hours total and together we knocked in out in 6 hours. If I had to do it all over again, I'd pick Johnson's Moving & More Inc. If I could give less than 1 star I would. They were terrible. I have waited to post my review because I was waiting to receive a refund check they told me they were sending. The owner of the company has now been ignoring my emails and I told him if I didn't receive the check, I'd post my review so here it is. First of all ,They were completely unprofessional. Kept hanging out and wanting to chat rather than work. The unprofessionalism went all the way to the end when they were taking slices of pizza, beer , and pop when they were not offered. It was completely awkward trying to kick them out when I had family here. Secondly, I know accidents happen but one of the movers cut his hand. I gave him whatever bandaids I had and in between locations he went and bought some more. I even offered him a rubber glove to put on so blood didn't get on anything because they bandaids weren't doing the job, but he declined that. Needless to say, he got blood on my mattress. Later I found some on the carpet and walls. He was barely apologetic, more so laughed it off. After they left we began noticing all the damages. Ripped couch, stained chair, completely scruffed dresser, blood stain on mattress. They were careless in packing the truck therefore everything was messy and damaged. The owner of the company was made aware of all these things, pictures of everything. He took about 3-4 weeks to come to my house and start trying to repair things. Resewed the couch, got the blood out of the mattress and repaired a rip. The stained chair he said he would pay for a company to come clean and the dresser he offered to paint, I declined that offer. We went back and forth about the chair and it got to a point I just wanted money back. He drags his feet responding to emails and I said with everything that happened I'd like $200 back from my $1000 move ( I also tipped the movers $200 even though they were terrible) he was appalled I would ask for money back. Long story short. He assured me a check for $150 would be in the mail and after 3 emails I sent asking where the check is, I haven't heard anything. I'm assuming I'll never see that money. We reserved our uHaul the same week of moving and decided we would need additional help to move out of our existing 2 bedroom apartment with stairs. James called to confirm the move and worked with us on the timing as it was last minute and they have limited availability. James accomodated our short notice and sent 2 crew members over to help with the move. On the day of the move, I received a call from the moving crew they were running late due to traffic, and they were very apologetic, and I informed them I had a short time window given my uHaul rental. I received constant updates from the movers whom were very apologetic and they were stuck in traffic for about 1.5 hours. Once they arrived, MaryAnn and Mario got started immediately going through the items they had to move and wanted to get started immediately, after having been stuck in traffic for such a long time. I asked them to take a breather and some water before they got started as it was going to be a lot of work coming. MaryAnn and Mario were amazing in the way they organized and packed the uHaul truck, they got everything moved out within the hour and they were very careful with our things and there were no scratches and bumps to the furniture and the walls, even with navigating a king sized bed through a narrow hallway. They even helped us hauled a large sectional sofa to the dumpster. Moving into the new place was a nightmare, for the crew, the elevator broke and they had to carry everything up 3 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor, and they did an amazing job doing so, nothing was scratched, everything was taken care of and both MaryAnn and Mario were very patience and I felt terrible they had to carry all the things up the stairs. The crew were very patience and understanding of the situation and took good care of the equipment. We really appreciated their hardwork. We would highly recommend the crew, MaryAnn and Mario from Johnson Moving and More to anyone looking for help. read more

I'd used this company before a couple of years ago and I really appreciate the work they did. So, I just moved last weekend and I knew before I even signed my lease I was going to book them. My roommate had trouble pulling the uhaul into the alley and this guy jumps out of a van and says he can pull the truck into the alley.. It was the head mover. After the truck was in place the guys headed inside and got to work! I watched as my apartment disappeared onto the truck without these guys breaking a sweat! With the same amount of effort they unloaded my things at my new apartment and I couldn't have asked for better workers. I moved from a 2 to 3 bedroom with mainly boxes and totes but they were plentiful and these guys did a great job! I have been showing their card to everyone I come across. I was really disappointed since after seeing some of the reviews that Johnson's moving received that I decided to have them be my movers for my move even though the price was higher than most, but I chose Johnson's Moving and More because of the reviews. But, on my moving day seeing how rambunctious they were on upset me more afterwards. First, I had told one of the movers that I really wanted my couch and chairs to be handle with care because of the light color. I didn't want any dirt or hand prints from their dirty hands on my furniture, but there was. I would think that your company would supply your movers with new gloves each time so this would NOT happen, its not like they have to wear them for the whole move, just when they are moving furniture that is light. Second, the foot board was so scratched up that I had to cover it up with Old English scratch remover. I was instructed to have plenty of furniture pads which I did, so this should not have happened!! Lastly, one of the movers dropped two boxes that he was carrying because he was carrying too much at one time. I really didn't expect this from a company with such high reviews. The sad thing about this was I gave them a tip before I could inspect everything. Also, I had to go clear back to my old address, because they left some tools there so of course this made me have to put more mileage on my uhaul. Just a bad first experience with this company. The movers were 4 hours late, broke numerous items of furniture, not to mention the owner James called the guys moving our place in the middle of the move and told them he wasn't going to pay them! First of all, I called around to local movers like Two Men and a Truck and Ace Moving and found that it would be less expensive for me to get my own truck and hire movers..... big mistake, I should have just gone with them! I reserved a UHaul and was offered the moving help through the UHaul app. I was really looking forward to booking them as they had "No Travel Fee" in the title. I booked them for a morning move and received a text later that evening indicating I would receive a phonecall in the morning to get everything set regarding time and location. GREAT! The next morning, I did receive a call indicating that they had another move scheduled for that morning and that they would be at my house at noon. GREAT! I hired a babysitter for my daughter and paid them for the allotted time we would be moving. Mind you, I work from home and am very busy raising my daughter and trying to run my business. I get time away from her for work only, very rarely is it for personal enjoyment. So, morning of the move, I called UHaul to ensure that the truck would be ready to be picked up at 11AM. Confirmed! SWEET! About an hour later, I get a call from a laborer who tells me that the morning move they were hired for would take much longer than anticipated and that they would be coming about 1:30-2. Well, there was going to be a parade starting at 4 in the new neighborhood and my kid is being watched for a certain amount of time, so they needed to get people at my location as soon as possible. She said she would make some calls and get back to me ASAP. She never called back. I called her and found out that there was help coming ASAP and that they would be at the location at 12:15. OKAY! 12:45 rolls around still no one. I call and she says their car broke down and that someone would be calling me shortly that they would be out as soon as 1 or 2. Someone calls saying they are finishing a job and that it would take 45 minutes to complete that job and 45 minutes to get to me, so 2:30 or so right? YES. 2:30 PM rolls around, still NO ONE. I'm FUMING by this point. Finally someone calls and says they finished the job and are on their way to me. But that its an hour and 30 minute drive. UGH!!!!! The movers finally showed up at 4. They damaged my kitchen table and dressers. They were cursing at each other towards the end. And I was told to give the payment code as a sign that they were 'there', which I did, but indicated my extreme dissatisfaction at which time he indicated to take it up with James and gave me his number. I've called him. 2-3 times now since our move Saturday. I indicated if I didnt receive a call back I would call my credit card company and write review of my experience everywhere I could. This is my first. Now on to calling the BBB. read more

I DO NOT recommend Johnson's Moving & More. After waiting for them for an hour, they called to say they were downstairs trying to park. Then they just never showed up. And I still haven't heard from them 2 weeks later. Here's what happened: On March 23, I booked a U-Haul truck and utilized the option to also "add" moving help for my move. I selected Johnson's Moving & More. JMM called me that day to confirm my move date, time and locations. April 21, at 11:00am. On April 20 at 4:15pm, I realized I had not heard from them to confirm the next day's appointment. I left a voicemail. They returned the call at 6:53pm and said we were all set for "tomorrow at 11:00am". The next day after I had parked my 20' truck in the alley, I missed a call (at 11:09am) from the driver. I called back at 11:12pm. He stated that he was sorry, but they were running late. He stated that they were given a work truck for the day that had "already broken down 3 or 4 times" where they had "been stuck on the side of the road." He stated that the truck was now working and he shouldn't have any more problems but that he would be another 20 minutes. At 11:53am, 40 minutes after the call and 50 minutes late for my reservation, I tried to call for an update. There was no answer. I tried again at 11:55am with no answer. At 12:08pm the driver answered the phone and said he was "just downstairs, trying to find a parking space." I told him that he could park behind the moving truck in the alley. He said ok then told the 2nd person with him, "she said we can park in the alley, so just go around the block". That was the last I heard from anyone, even 5 days later. I tried to contact both the driver and office and left messages on both voicemails. I tried calling until 1pm when I only had 30 minutes left for my elevator & dock reservation. At that point, my 72 year old mother, 71 year old aunt, 65 year old friend and 39 year old friend with severe back, neck and arm issues started moving my boxes. There is no reason I should have grandparents and injured people moving me. But they rushed to load as much as we could into the truck before I had to move out of the alley. I then tried to find other movers to help with the furniture as my guests who came to town just for this move, couldn't manage the remainder of the items. I couldn't find anyone else (friends or movers) to come until the next day and for $50 more. At this point, 85% of my stuff was in the truck with no way to move it until the next day. As a result I had to find somewhere to park it overnight until the other movers could come. This added on miles to my truck reservation that would have been unnecessary had the movers shown up. As all my sheets, blankets, pillows, blow up mattresses were in the truck, my 3 guests, myself and my 2 dogs had nowhere to sleep (or even sit at that point), so we had to go to a hotel. As my friend then had to go home, I had no means of transport so had to use Uber to get all our suitcases and bags and dogs to the hotel, and then to pick me up after I finally found a place to park. I had to Uber again in the morning at 5:30am to move the truck. As we were still at the old apartment and all the lunch I had planned was at the new, I had to get everyone lunch. We also had to get dinner as we had a casserole we were going to cook for dinner that night that my mother kindly brought all the way from Michigan. However as we had no means of cooking or eating as all the utensils were packed, this was our only option. The same happened for breakfast. Because I was now pushed back a day and a half, because the movers couldn't come until Sunday afternoon, I had to waste a vacation day at work for which I was also reprimanded because of the late notice. All in all, I ended up with an ADDITIONAL $943 of costs, had the company actually shown up to do the work that was scheduled and paid for. I manage moves for a living (I organized 8 in a year covering 5 different states. And have moved myself 4 times in the last 2 1/2 years. My experience with Johnson's Moving & More was the worst. read more

The Movers were unpleasant. The two young kept blowing their noses into my garage floor. Then they just wanted to stand around instead of work. They were kids and this kind of stuff I can live with. The bigger problem was with James. The young men ripped a hole in my couch and tore up my molding in my house. James said that he would come out and fix it himself. He advised that he would call and schedule a time to come out. He never called. This same thing happened multiple times. I would strongly recommend not using this company due to the lack of follow up and just plain deceit. I would rather he just said "I am sorry but there is nothing I can do". A two person crew came for two hours and had the whole job done timely and for a very reasonable price. Good, polite, laid-back individuals who worked very efficiently. In the month of September I had a very bad encounter with this group of movers. I had spoken quite a few times with James who seemed to be running the company. He had been hired by a friend who came to pickup furniture that I sold to her. I was then impressed with the finess with which he moved the furniture with a female help. I hired him for my move and asked if he would be the one to come for my move. He agreed. Then over the course of 2 weeks we talked a couple times and he still was supposed to come for the move. On Sept 21st he sent another guy and the same female who was with him the last time. Well long story short, the other guy did not take care of furniture. My entertainment set for my 50 inch TV is broken to the point where it is not usable. They moved it in and because there are 6 support feet at the bottom of base had protective plastics These were lost. My new Hardwood floor got scratches. They charged me for the time that he had agreed to NOT charge between two closings of the houses. When I called him to report that his man had broken the entertainment center, he was loud on the phone yelling and rather than giving me a refund of money on the broken furniture he charged me for the time that his men were sitting which he had promise to not charge. Adding insult to the injury I made a mistake in writing the check amount wrong by paying him $35 more. He is not responding to the phone calls or the text messages to refund the damage and the overpaid amount. I would say this company is not dependable and not professional.
