The reason I'm having to drop 1 star off my review is about a week ago I took 2 rods in that had the tips broken off and they said they could fix them. After they were repaired I drove about 30 minutes to where I was planning on fishing and after about the 3rd cast I noticed the tip on the rod I was using was turned almost 180 degrees from the direction it was supposed to be facing. I checked it and it was very loose and would freely spin around on the rod tip. After a couple hours of fishing like this I decided to go to another nearby spot so I went up to my vehicle and checked the rod tip on the other rod they'd also repaired that morning. Even though it had not been used for a single cast yet the tip on that rod was also loose and able to be easily turned around. I considered driving back to Holland to have them repaired a 2nd time at this tackle store since they obviously owed me a proper repair job since I'd already paid for one but not gotten what I'd paid for, but then I got to thinking that with my gas guzzler I drive I would have spent an extra $8 on gas to drive back to Holland and then come back to the area where I was fishing. So instead I took both rods to a nearby tackle shop. They looked at the rods and assured me they could easily fix the other tackle shops repairs and make sure it was done correctly this time. They did exactly as they promised and then they really surprised me by not even charging me for the rod tip repairs. I'm sure the reason they did it at no charge was because while there I did spend a fair amount on some other supplies, but still it was a nice thing to do that they certainly did not have to do since I was prepared to pay their normal price for the repairs. I do like this tackle shop and the men that work here are really friendly so I will continue to stop in and pick up supplies and get information from them. However, I won't be bringing any rods in here for any repairs in the future since they let me down the 2 that I recently brought in and paid $5 each to have the rod tips repaired on and they were not repaired correctly.

My Husband, our dog, and I stayed 12/25-12/27. Originally we were going to check in on 12/24, but…read moredue to a storm taking out power in much of the area, we were delayed one day. The owner, Steve, gave us a call before we drove up there to let us know power was out. He offered to help us make other arrangements, but we decided to wait to see if power would come back. Luckily the power was restored that evening. Steve made sure we could get in to Cottage #1 (closest to the lake) when we made our way up on Christmas day. The cottage was as described on their webpage and then some. Definitely cozy, but perfect for us. 2 bedrooms with full size beds, Linens provided. The bathroom was small, but clean and functional. A couch and a chair were in a sitting area with a small TV. The big picture windows were nice because you can see the lake from cottage #1. One of the main reasons we booked here was the kitchen. The other is that they are pet friendly. The kitchen is small, but I made it work. A big sink, a few feet of counter space, an electric apartment stove/oven, a 12 cup coffee maker (bring your own coffee and filters) and a full size fridge with top freezer. No microwave. Some cooking equipment was available (a few pots and pans, a colander, mixing bowls, cutting board, plates, bowls, cups, silverware) as well as dish soap. If you are going to cook meals during your stay, I would advise bringing paper towels (only one dish towel), foil, trash bags, a small baking sheet or 2 (half the size of a regular one), any spices you may want to cook with, a chef's knife, and paring knife. There is a table and chairs, and out the back door is a picnic table. The furnace is old, and made pinging noises when it was not running (the metal in it cooling down) but kept the whole cottage comfortable. Just keep the bedroom doors open if you want heat to reach them. There is no air conditioning, so I'm not sure how it is in the summer. Overall, the place had a real "Up North" family cottage feel. The off season rates are great and you can stay by the night. In the peak season, you need to book a whole week, but rates still seem reasonable. Right next door is the state park with beach, playground, and picnic tables (must have a recreation passport or can buy day passes). On the other side is a produce market. Lakeside Charlie's (local restaurant, even though I am from Cadillac I have never been there, but hear good things) is a short walk away. The office is in the bait shop, which is great if you fish and they also rent boats and ice shanties. For what we paid (~$80 per night in the off season) this place worked great for my family. We needed a place to stay we could bring our dog, cook our own meals, and not break the bank. There was a nature trail nearby that was great for walking the dog (on a leash, please!). If you forgot anything or realize you need something, Meijer and Walmart are just across town. Not sure if we would come back in the summer, but in the off season we will surely be back. A few recommendations for improvement to the owners: A carbon monoxide detector would be good to add, as the furnace is older. There seemed to be some water damage along the back wall of the cottage in the kitchen near the baseboards that needs fixed. it was purely cosmetic and did not really detract from our stay, but needs attention.

There were others when I thought, "Hey, this place isn't so bad!" Why I thought this was a one-starrer: *The carpet. Old, stained, smelly. Rip it out and replace it with tile or linoleum. Carpet generally is a bad idea in rental cabins. *The sofa reeked of wet dog. * Ventilation. There are two large picture windows in the main area of the cabin, which give fantastic views of the cabins across the driveway and the parking lot of the state park next door (yes, and Lake Mitchell too, barely), but don't open. There is a tiny window next to the stove that slides open, and if you open that, then leave the front door open (leaving the screen door closed), barely enough air will circulate to keep the temperature tolerable on a hot night. The bedroom windows swing in to open, which means they get caught in the curtains and you never get a nice steady draft though the night. Seriously, if you come in summer, bring a fan. Or two. *The ceiling tile was wavy, and one ceiling light was partially detached. Why I thought it wasn't so bad: *Aside from the carpet, the place was generally clean. * Shower was large, water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. *Cooking/eating ware provided was cleaner, in better condition than in most other cabins we've stayed at. We usually bring some of our own, but probably could have gotten by without that here. *Bed was fairly comfortable. *The charcoal grill provided looked relatively new and clean. There is quite a bit of road noise here, though we've spent time in the area before and knew that going in. Our neighbors on the other hand were quiet for the most part. While I can't wholeheartedly recommend this place, if you do need a place to stay in Cadillac, you can probably get by here. I think it could actually be quite pleasant with some renovations.

We are 6 adults, and four little girls ages 5-7 We range from beginner to experienced with kayaking. Just before we went out, the weather changed so we came back in after half an hour. We ate in the restaurant while it poured, and then went back out for another 90 minutes. We got out on sand bars to visit and play. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. A staff member provides a comprehensive review of the boat and it's features, and then you are free to cruise the blue-green waters of the Chain O' Lakes all day. The pontoon (20' Hydrotherapy) was clean and comfortable, the canopy kept us shaded when the sun was hot, you have swim stairs in case you want to stop at a sandbar and cool off, and there were no issues at all with the motor. Plus they give you a map showing the lakes in the chain, detailing which ones are no-wake so the day was relaxing and trouble-free from start to finish.
