Wonderful, helpful staff and a nice selection of bikes. We came in (unknowingly) close to closing time to browse their bikes, and were still met with friendly, knowledgeable service. We ended up purchasing 3 bikes- 2 Electras and one Trek-which they delivered to our home free of charge the next day. (We didn't have space in our vehicle). We had to come in a few days later due to a flat on my son's bike and were offered the same friendly service. Wow! I broke my bike chain. Pulled in , they came outside and replaced my chain (adjusting the new one) and then didn't even charge for the labor. I was back on my bike in about 5 minutes. Wonderful guys!!! read more

i took my flat tire to them and they replaced the tube while I waited it only took about 15 minutes. a few days later the tire went flat again and my wife also got a flat tire we took both tires in to have repaired and they replaced tubes in both tires but the big surprise was when my wife went into the shop to pick up our tires they said no charge on either tire . we are both going to need new bikes in the next year and this is the place we plan on buying them fro. this service department probably sells more bikes than the sales people read more

Read several reviews about the arrogance and have experienced this myself in the past. When I bought my road bike several years ago, I decided I was not going to deal with it and went to Grand Rapids to make my purchase after being a customer there for 25 years or more. I recently however had a good experience at Breakaway with the purchase of my wife's new road bike. The staff was kind and accommodating and the purchasing experience was good in my opinion, possibly they got the message from the reviews. One more thing: When purchasing a Trek bike please learn from my mistake. I picked up my wife's new bike on 12/15/18 and paid about $1,000 for the bike, I learned this morning that the trek website had the same exact bike on sale for $699. Wonder if Breakaway price matches?? Always check online is my lesson. read more

We have visited this shop several times and they have always been very nice to work with. Just bought a bike there and Jeff took me out in the parking lot with a couple of bikes so I could test"drive" both of them. He patiently explained the difference in the two bikes and adjusted them for my height. Would definitely recommend this shop and it's sister store in Grand Haven. read more

These guys ARE the best! These guys SELL the best at fair prices! The salespeople are super knowledgeable and easy-going (aka "not pushy"). I love the fact that this business has been critiquing the hundreds the product lines out there every year to make sure that they only carry the best at all different price points. The purchased equipment is always tuned perfectly and the shop guys are always laughing and smiling. Fun place to shop, chat with great people and find cool stuff. I just went break away bikes an had the best experience ever at a bike shop, just needed a couple minor adjustments, my disc brakes were rubbing an was having some gear problems an he said it would cost 12$-20$ dollars but we had a good talk an didn't even wanna take my money cause I was nice to him an my son was asking him questions. So all in all I had a great experience. Yea there bikes are expensive but you get what you pay for so Im taking my bike there every single time I have a problem. Don't believe people on here good cause bikes aren't like they used to be. read more

Staff is knowledgeable but uppity. Selection is ok if you like trek, that is pretty much all they sell.

I never really liked this bike shop, despite their huge selection. The staff is rude and act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you buy a small item. It takes forever to get their attention and check out. The prices on apparel, parts and accessories are sky high. Everything is priced at full MSRP. They charge a 3% restocking fee on returns if you paid with a credit card which is completely asinine and shows how little regard they have for their own customers. read more

My first experience with Breakaway Bicycles was terrible and I'll never return. It was my first time purchasing a bike and I had lots of questions. After I brought up several concerns, an employee named Julie got frustrated with my questions, rolled her eyes, and walked away! I am very impressed with the service I received when I bought my first recumbent bike through Breakaway Bicycles. First, Abby was very helpful in explaining the differences in different bike styles. I was able to try the bike I wanted, as well as ask many questions that took a lot of time. I did not feel rushed, or pressured at all...just well supported in making my decision. Additionally, it is not easy to transport a recumbent bike, so Eric, the owner delivered my bike, to my home 25 miles away, within hours of my purchase. I was able to get on the trail that day!! A minor detail was overlooked in preparing my bike for me, and Eric was quick to respond to my concern with a solution to the problem. I look forward to working with BB for all my future needs!!!! Saw some reviews about rude service at Breakaway Bikes, and I don't understand, because I had the opposite experience. I rented a bike from BB for the Grand Haven Triathalon, because I didn't want to lug my bike on an airplane from DC. From beginning to end, I had a great experience from reserving the bike to picking it up and having it fitted and tested. The team helped swap out the regular pedals for my fancy pedals. I thought the price was good for the rental, too, considering I had a pretty nice road bike for two full days. The bike was in great condition. I had good interactions with the team at BB on the phone and in person. I didn't need to have any tune-ups at the tri itself, but I noticed that BB was there in the early morning to help people with quick bike needs and repairs. If I am back in GH/Muskegon and in need of a bike, I know where to go. Thank you! read more
