Put simply, I had a bad experience with this shop and I would not recommend it to anyone.
I took my truck in to get the horn fixed, bringing it in 15 minutes after they opened. I arrived to find the two employees evidently not working on anything at the time, and dropped off the truck. Seven hours later, they call to let me know that the horn was fixed. When I picked up the truck, the three employees now there were all standing around not working on anything. I'm not sure why fixing the horn took seven hours if the employees were apparently unoccupied with anything else. They charged $75 for, in their words, "moving some wires around."
Immediately after turning on the truck, I discovered that the wipers no longer worked. Upon taking the truck home and investigating it, I found that the power distribution box was left open under the hood. This box latches shut, and is so close to the hood that it physically could not open by itself. I check under the hood regularly, and would've noticed this beforehand. I have made two assumptions by this point: that Johnson's Garage was not thorough in their work because they left the power distribution box open, and because "moving wires around" caused the wipers to stop working and they didn't check for that sort of thing.
I called them to ask what they had done more specifically to help diagnose the problem. I shared my observations with them, being careful to not make any accusations. I did not say "you did this wrong," I instead would say, "I noticed this." The man on the phone became defensive anyway, and said that they never touched anything under the hood. It was difficult to get any straight answers from him about what they had done to the truck, so I asked repeatedly. He told me I could bring the truck in tomorrow and they'd look at it. I said that I'd prefer to take the truck elsewhere, but I would accept a refund. He then said they could look at the truck that same day. I restated my position. He told me that since the horn worked, and that's what I had paid for, they didn't owe me any refund. He hung up on me shortly after that.
When I took the truck to another shop to fix the wipers, they ended up having to take apart the whole dashboard to find the problem. They said that they found one broken wire. Now the suspicious, cynical side of myself assumes that the guys at Johnson's Garage broke one wire on purpose so I'd have to bring the truck back to them. But that's just another assumption.
In any case, I found Johnson's Garage to be unprofessional in both their work and their customer service. read more
