I've loved this store for many years, but this was the first time I've brought a chainsaw in for a tune-up. Everything worked fine when I dropped it off, but I'd had it for several years and thought it was time I had someone go over it. I was surprised to find it as dirty, or dirtier, when I picked it up than it was when I dropped it off. And then it wouldn't start, so I went back. The mechanic got it started, but it wouldn't idle so he adjusted the idle. I took it home and started to cut the log I needed to cut, and as soon as it touched the wood, the chain stopped moving. I took it back again, and was told the inside sprocket was bad. By then I had decided that taking it there was a mistake, so I took it to Dave at a place I go to in Boiling Springs. Within minutes, with me watching, he had it apart and the sprocket was fine. It had a problem with oiling, which he identified in an instant. He also identified a fuel line leaking, and a few other small problems that he said definitely should have been fixed with a tune-up. So, my review for the repair facility at Johnson's Ace Hardware gets one star, simply because there is no "zero star" option. If you need something tuned up or repaired, I'd definitely go elsewhere! read more

Be careful of this place!!! RIP OFFS!!!! During the Snow-pocalypse (February 2015) I needed to get Ice melt and a snow shovel. I called and was told that they had snow shovels in stock. When we arrived the shovels were about 6 inches wide; not effective in my book. So we figured we were there so lets get Ice melt for the driveway. So i paid at the cashier and was told to drive to the side and someone would load it. WELL they loaded something, but not what I wanted. They decided that an equal substitute would be water softener salt. this stuff is twenty times the size, won't fit through my spreader and completely useless to me. OOOOOO and did i mention the price I paid for the ice melt was 14.99... but what they gave to me is sold for 5.99$!!! I called and spoke to the manager that said this was completely acceptable and that if i did not return it that day (45 mins till close) they would not refund me my money. They "do not do returns on this item". Customer satisfaction means nothing to these people and they are looking to rip you off at any moment. Go to the ig box store, you'll save money and hassle!!! COMPLETE RIP OFFS. Everything is over priced and poor customer service. Price gouging is the first goal!!!! read more

I bought a gas grill at this store. It was a little cheaper than Lowe's and Home Depot plus someone helped me pick it out and told me the differences in the models and took it to the front for me and by the time I paid for it they were loading it in my truck. Plus they talked to me like a person. I left feeling valued and happy and good instead if how I feel leaving the big stores--usually frustrated and lost and disappointed. They are a hardware store that's great for the locals to pick up items that are needed without traveling to the more upbeat stores in the city. However, the prices do seem a little higher on some items. AND a big AND... I was in the midst of comparing items on an isle for about 10 minutes (while the same customers that were there as I walked in seemed to be doing the same) BUT I seemed to be targeted for possible theft. An older white male approached me uncomfortably close while my 6 year old daughter was present and he said something about her then proceeded to ask if I needed any help and he didn't seem to want to leave after I said I had it. So I went along and got him to help me. Then he noticed my VETERAN hat and must've noticed that he was completely wrong. Dude you know it when you sense it once you've experienced oppression from odd places as you've traveled a 1/6th of the entirety of America and this was strangely close. Like "hurry up and buy" attitude. I will not return but I was satisfied with the item. I should add that he seemed to be the only one acting in such manner. So, I still give them a 3. But be cautious some people don't seem too friendly concerning diversity around this area! read more

This place has it all! The smells bring back fond memories from my childhood experiences of quick trips to the hardware store with my dad. And you don't have to walk a mile for that one nut and bolt you need. Can't find it? Not hard to find someone to help you quickly. I don't know how long it's been around, but I love that I can walk in, and there's someone always ready to help me find what I need. And it's locally owned, which makes a huge difference. If you have a problem, you can actually talk to the owners, face-to-face. Love this place! read more

The folks at this Hardware store are helpful , and they have a full selection of tools I have bought supplies and tools there for years

I shop here all the time but recently they have changed everything plus employees. Who is the older blonde headed woman at the register? She is SO slow and she answers the phone with a line a mile long. She stayed on the phone with customers standing in line. She has no personality at all. Ace does not need someone like this. They used to have the nicest woman running the register. Don't know what happened to her but please find someone else that know what they are doing and can get you out of there quicker. Bought a weed blower from them and it never ran from day 1. It was such a hassle to resolve the issue. I would never recommend them to anyone. I had to file complaints with Stihl to get a fix so 6-8 weeks later it was done.
