Unfortunately, I just experienced bad service from Johnson Water. Johnson installed a water softener at my house today, and in the process broke my tankless water heater. As well, none of my showers will turn on and only the faucets will turn on. They left my house without explanation as to why the showers won't turn on, and they insisted that they did not break the tankless water heater. I had to call another company to come out tomorrow to repair my tankless water heater and figure out how to get my 3 showers to turn back on. I've been a customer for 21 years. I'm astonished how bad this turned out. Please think twice before using this company. read more

On January 7, 2025, I entered into a service agreement with Johnson Water Conditioning Co. Since installation, I have experienced ongoing issues with the water softening equipment and have consistently reported these concerns to the company. I contacted Johnson Water on three separate occasions to report that the system was not functioning properly. A technician was dispatched twice, each time displaying unprofessional behavior and dismissing my concerns without thorough inspection. On the third occasion, I specifically requested a different technician and asked that the water be tested to verify the equipment's performance. Despite my request, the same technician was sent again. However, he did conduct a water test, which confirmed that the equipment was not operating correctly and that the water remained hard--just as it was prior to installation. These findings were confirmed in June, despite my repeated complaints beginning in February. The issue has only recently been resolved. I contacted the company to request a credit for the five months during which the equipment was non-functional. My request was denied by a manager named Kerry. I have paid for five months of service without receiving the intended benefit. This experience reflects poorly on the company's commitment to customer service. Based on my experience, I do not recommend renting, purchasing, or using services from Johnson Water Conditioning Co., as customer concerns are not handled appropriately or professionally. I respectfully request that Johnson Water Conditioning Co. reconsider its position and issue a credit for the months during which the equipment was not functioning. I believe this would be a fair resolution and a reflection of good faith toward customer satisfaction. read more

The company still doesn't reply to emails and hasn't fixed the filters. Total amateurs."

Got an estimate some time ago from these folks. The person did a pretty sketchy job on the tests and seemed to be just going through the motions before proposing a standard system. The estimate was crazy high for the components they use and then label as their own. They also like to propose renting, but it's really a 3yr lease with a full retail early cancellation penalty. It's not called renting if I owe you what's left off the retail price when cancelling early but also have to keep paying after the 3 years are up. They also handed me a bizarre handout dissing their competitors. While their proposed gear may work, I was not impressed and will not be using them. Update in response to Greg: It's always disappointing to lose a sale, but a competitor (not on your handout) with a long track record did in fact offer the services you do at a better price with no negative selling. Your competitor did a comprehensive job testing the water and actually listened to me before discussing options instead of just quoting a standard solution for a premium price. Thanks for the chuckle, but I have no doubt you're making far more than a few bucks. read more

My strong suggestion is not to schedule a service call with this company ( St.Charles office). I have a service technician come to my house on 7/20/20. Checked our softener, replaced a transformer, and told us it was working according to specifications. After the 3nd day following service, I noticed the water didnt seem soft, and that salt wasn't being consumed. So today, on 7/28, I called Johnson back and explained the problem I was having. I was told I would need to pay a 97.00 service call for them to come back out 8 days later! I explained I was told it was working as it should. Nope...they would not stand behind their work...not even after 8 days. Even if I happened to need parts for another problem...I would understand, but not even to offer to waive the service call this time was unacceptable. I will pay another service company the service call before I'll pay Johnson again. A company that doesn't stand by their work. Unprofessionalism and unacceptable. The new company that I'm having come out said they have a lot of former Johnson customers now coming to them. Why does that not surprise me. Sorry...but one star is your deserved rating, only because I couldn't give you a ZERO. Edit/Update The day after this post, I received a phone call from Johnson and was told that there had been a misunderstanding. Indeed I was correct in that an additional service charge was NOT required for another visit 8 days later to check the original work they had NOT performed. It should not have taken a bad review on my part for common sense to be restored...but they DID make it right. read more

Oh my did I have a wonderful experience with this place! My husband and I just moved into town from out of state. We had a couple units downstairs but they weren't working, because oh boy was the water hard! We just put new appliances and didnt want them ruined. We did the typical googling and found many places that offered water testing. The lady in the office I spoke to was very knowledgeable and helped me set up an appointment. I adored the fact we had the owners son come to our home. He was such a delight. He preformed the water test and was ever so patient with all my questions thoroughly taking his time to answer them. Once we had a few quotes from other companies I saw that they had the best options. The installer came out and what a sweetheart made sure to put tarps and booties on as I just got new flooring. My husband enjoyed being walked through the equipment and how to work. The fact that for half of what other companies charged I was able to obtain all of our equipment with installation. I also got lifetime guarentee on parts including the electrical. I was thoroughly satisfied with all the work they did and the careful consideration they had for my home as well. We were so happy that my mother in law decided to give them a shot and had the same experience! I am ever so pleased! Thank you! read more

For a recent water softener issue, they were responsive, timely, professional and reasonably priced. They have also installed RO systems for us with excellent experiences there as well! read more

I was threatened by Greg to pay the remainder of my contract because I wanted to stop renting their unit. He also told his tech when he did remove our unit to damage our water lines! Worst decision and wast of money. Update: Worst part of all is that the employee stated that he would get FIRED if Greg found out this information about damaging my pipes. read more

I have been a customer of Johnson for many, many years, I'm on my 2nd house with their service and have referred many as well! (Norm and Martin are awesome, but so is every service tech I've had!!) This company knows their business, trains their staff well, service turnaround is great and they address your concerns fully and explain what they do--we are so spoiled by their R/O system that we always bring our own water when we leave the house-- I also have an iron filter and water softener through them. Best of all, their pricing is far below their competitors:) A top notch, costumer service based company!!! read more

Great customer service. Fair pricing. Tech did a great job with install. Took the time to do it right. Was very helpful ensuring I know everything needed to keep it running too notch. Was recommended by neighbor and I am happy. Would recommend!! read more

Greg picked the time to come out to my house to give me an estimate. Greg did not arrive at scheduled time. 30 minutes after his scheduled time, I called the office. Person who answered said she would call me back after checking with Greg. Woman called back and said Greg said appointment was actually half hour after agreed upon time but he was on hs way and would be there is 25 minutes. An 1:40 minutes later still no Greg. I called the office- woman says "He didn't call you??". Greg completely blew off appointment and didn't bother to call. I have no estimate and one less vacation day. Stay away. read more

Can't even get a tech to call me back in 4 days after leaving a message each day. Wish we didn't buy our softener from Johnson's if we knew there would be no service after the sale. I'd recommend another water company. read more

Never got back to me for request for quote. Followed up once. Will try again.

I have been with Johnson Water Conditioning for 32 years. They provide excellent service and great products. I had an excellent service rep today Named Armando, he was professional and very knowledgeable. He did the job and explained what he did. They have very dedicated employees. Easy and fast to get an appointment. Thank you for such a great company. M. Simpson Batavia, IL read more

After 2 years of having their filter and softener, they demanded $800 to REMOVE their stuff from my house so I could install my own equipment. The girl I talked to said I should return what I bought because it wasn't as good as their stuff. I've paid them more in these two years than their equipment is worth. Terrible customer service read more

Johnson Water Conditioning always provides excellent and prompt service. They've never missed an appointment and call ahead should there be any unforeseen delays. Their personnel are courteous and careful in all they do, making sure to clean up when done and take any old materials with them. We are very satisfied with their products and service. read more

Very professional service team. Quickly identified the issue and recommended various options for my tank replacement including new and refurbished equipment. The install was fast and smooth and the technician did a great job of setting the tank back further than my old tank was, thus giving me some extra space in the area. As for the unit itself, the water seems much improved (glasses from the dishwasher are no longer "cloudy") and the salt use is greatly reduced. I had them come out for a potential repair and since the unit had to be replaced and I did it though Johnson, there was no charge for the initial service call. I felt respected and fairly treated and am happy with the new conditioner. What more could I ask for? read more

I've known Rich for years as a service technician through other water companies. He evaluated my softener issue quickly and serviced the rest of my water treatment system. The office is easy to schedule service calls in advance so they fit into my busy schedule. read more

They were prompt, quick and did not pressure me to put in any other equipment other than a rust filter. And my water is great now!

I clearly stated what I needed, an estimate for a non Johnson brand whole house water filter & softener installation, & the dude talked about cost of parts from manufacturer being difficult, the process to install not a part of their "most of the time" work flow & so on, including that the cost of installing my Aquasana would come close to purchasing one of theirs, (if he'd been more reasonable, I'd have told him the cost was included as a part of our budget) & I quipped back, "Do you do this installation, 'most of the time' or not?" & he said no. He just lost an opportunity, I could have emailed him the details, but it seemed like he had too much pride in his own stuff. read more

I paid way more than what a water softener should cost because I thought I was getting a quality unit and a lifetime warranty along with the unit. The salesman told me that parts were covered for the lifetime of the unit, and there was a flat fee of $97 for service. Turns out he was incorrect or lied, and it's $97 for the first half hour. This water softener is so loud it wakes me from sleep at 2 AM every time it regenerates. The company says it's normal even though I had this same unit in my last house and it wasn't that way. When I called to complain about the noise, all they want to do is send somebody out. I sent in a video recording with the noise it was making and they said it's normal, but they wanted to send somebody out for the $97 fee to look at it. If it's normal then why do you want to come and look at it for $97. It does a good job softening the water, although my water isn't that hard, but it's so loud I'm tempted to just unplug the damn thing. What a waste of money. read more

We chose Johnson Water Conditioning based on their Yelp reviews and I'm glad we did! We called them for water softener installation and all of the whats, whys, and hows were explained to us thoroughly. It's nice to know people working in your home are knowledgeable and confident! I had to call back with a question the day after install and my call was both welcomed (after hours over the weekend) and returned within a reasonable amount of time. Highly recommend this company! Thank you for being such a pleasure to work with; sometimes I think customer service has become a thing of the past, but Johnson Water Conditioning is at the top of the game. read more

I was referred by my brother to Johnson Water Conditioning. Both the units and service has been exceptional. I've read horror stories about the big chains installing used units, but not Johnson. They're very competitive and do great work! read more

I was in Streamwood trying to get a softener and RO system installed for my family member. A rep first came out to do a thorough check of the water quality and plumbing lines. They weren't pushy at all and were very honest about making sure I only get what I actually need. We ended up getting both a softener and RO system and were setup pretty quickly. I was very happy with the installation process and the results. The family actually drinks the water now rather than loading up on bottled water. Highly recommend them over any other big names out there. I checked with home depot and was quoted $5000 for just the softener! read more

Found Johnson with a Yelp search after getting 3 estimates from the other highly recommended suburban local providers and found Johnson had not only a MUCH better price for our Iron filter & water softener but also liked everyone we dealt with much better. Awesome install job by Norm, the plumbing and fittings are very slick and he was very nice and patient with us. I saved over 1000$ on the same quality product thank the Yelp gods (yikes), I usually only invoke to find good food... read more

Terrible business practices. They lied on the phone about their expertise in repairing non-Johnson water softeners, didn't solve our water problem, and caused us to call out other professionals to not only solve our original water issue but also the two others that Jason's work caused in other parts of our system. After several phone calls with the office personnel and Jason, spanning the time of over a month awaiting return calls, and hours with them continuously explaining our dissatisfaction and disappointment on the phone, they finally settled on a partial refund per our request for a refund. We are still awaiting the promised "check". If I could give a "zero" rating, I would. read more

First off The company seems very professional. I had Angel water out they Costco. Johnson came out and quoted half the price for the softener and said I didn't need a filtration system because I had a filter on the fridge just use the water from that. So bottom line the quote was 1/3 that of Angels. Day of installation went smoothly even with them putting in more pipe because of the way my basement was payed out. The only thing I could complain about was the installers never explained how the equipment works other than adding salt when needed. Would have liked an explanation of the read out etc. read more

We recently moved into a house that has well water and the water smelled terrible. We called Johnson's to help get the smell out of the water. They responded immediately to my request and sent someone (Jason) out within in 24 hours. Jason was great! He's super knowledgeable, helpful and patient with our many questions. Just the kind of guy you want helping you. I would highly recommend Johnson's and Jason! read more

I contacted Johnson Water Conditioning based on the reviews I read on Yelp. I couldn't be happier with the outcome of that decision. Jason showed up right at the time promised. He quickly determined a micro switch had failed in my water softener unit. It was already late in the afternoon on Friday and he did not have the replacement part on his truck. He promised to return Saturday morning. I am happy to report he returned as promised, part in hand. The water softener works great now. Jason took the time to look at all the components of my water softener. He did not try to sell me something I didn't need. I am a new customer with Johnson Water and will definitely trust them, and especially Jason, if I have future issues with my water softener. On a side note, I was not charged for two appointments, only the initial charge which was very reasonable compared to competitors! read more

The staff at Johnson are incredibly knowledgable and are great about taking care of your concerns without the upsell. Our new 12-year-old home came with a Johnson system already installed. It's our first venture with a well and the techs were great about explaining everything and what we need to do to keep things working. They have been able to fix a couple of things that we thought maybe major to find out it was only deferred maintenance not done by the previous owner. We thought we were going to need an entirely new system and had a salesman come out from a "large membership warehouse" store that tried to sell us a $9000 system. I called Johnson and they fixed the problem for $700 and let us know we were good for many years to come. They may have the $97 for the first half hour, but its been our expereince that they are great about getting it done in that amount of time and not charging anymore than is necessary. We'll be long term customers. read more

Had softener installed 3 yrs ago. Had three service calls for the same problem within a month. Problem was resin was coming out with the discharge water. First service man made an adjustment. Second service man said it was bad salt brand but I was using the same brand they recommended. Changed his story to needs adjustment. Third service man said it needed a replacement part which he installed. Resin started coming out again two weeks ago. Service man came out and said it was overfilled at the factory. So now I had to pay a $97.00 service call for something that was wrong from the factory all along. No one from office would return my call even though I paid the service charge. I only wanted to know if they thought it was fair to send out a faulty product and expect a senior citizen to pay the service charge. Didn't even offer their advertised senior citizen discount. How did they ever get on Angies List. This is the office in Villa Park, Illinois read more
