I appreciate the pen and paper invoices, the family ran business, transparency on pricing and kindness displayed by both employees. I dropped off a few one piece items that had basic wear and tear and the staff was clear on the timeline and also asked for what my timeline was. In addition to the normal hemming and tailoring, the shop also offers up a nice selection of suits and custom suites that can be measured and ordered in house. I'm very pleased with my experience at John's Tailors for some minor alterations to a bridesmaid dress. The team was quick and thorough. They needed to remeasure a few days after I dropped off the dress because they felt their initial measurements were a little off. I'm glad they did because they made a few adjustments. The end result was perfect! You don't need an appointment, which is nice. I only waited about 5 minutes after walking in for my initial visit. The staff are friendly, attentive, and very professional. The space is clean and organized. The parking lot is pretty busy, so don't expect to get a spot right by the door. read more

Words can hardly describe the amazing customer service I received yesterday at Johns. In preparation for an interview, I had to get a button on my pant repaired so I headed in the store. I was immediately greeted by the owner who came upfront to ask what services I needed. After showing him the pant, he asked if I had the button, inwhich I did. He told me he could fix, it would take 10 or 15 minutes, and to have a seat. I was shocked! So I sat and waited for my pant. After he finished, I got up to pay, but he told me this one's on me. This is NOT John's Tailor! I have a degree in clothing design and am a seamstress, but if I had something special that I didn't feel completely competent to do well, I always took it to John's Tailor -- the real John's Tailor. About 2 weeks ago I took in a beautiful shirt to be shortened, feeling I couldn't work properly with the shape of the hem. They did a worse job than I would ever have done. I don't know how people put up with this, or how anyone can charge for such terrible work. I wasted $27 and will have to work carefully to undo and try to redo what they did. They clearly do not care about the quality of their work, like the previous owners did. I had such excellent work done for decades but the work done on my shirt is shameless. Beware, beware. They should at least have the decency to change the name, so that people aren't fooled into expecting quality workmanship. read more

John was so patient with us when we were waiting for my wedding dress to come in. After finally finding a dress that I loved and could take home with me, his was the first call I made to make sure that we could make the necessary adjustments. John assisted me with removing the cups from the dress (I already have shapewear), securing the straps, installing the bustle, and having a piece of fabric to cover the top portion of my shapewear above the zipper line. I absolutely love the work that he did, the attention to detail, and how friendly he was in helping my bridesmaids and my mom out with their alterations as well. I can't say enough good things about the quality of work and customer service. I will say that his pricing was higher than my original budget, however, given the complications getting the dress in time as it was, I wasn't going to scrimp on good customer service, either. read more

PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU'RE UNSURE HOW GREAT THEY ARE!!! Highest possible recommendation! I brought "Keo" at John's a couture dress that I got a great deal online but it was a final sale. This dress was cut so wrong in so many ways! Keo was so understanding of what needed done. It had these ridiculous dolman "bat-wing" sleeves and the whole upper bodice needed several inches taken in and tapered. Then came the rest of the top ... Although it was a floor length dress, the bottom was more of a pencil fit and the top part was a looser "blouson". Well, Keo had to take the top half apart at the waist including the lining inside and remove several inches and taper that as well. She has it done in four days but when I came to pick it up, the sleeves were perfect, but the back pulled open near the back buttons and you could see skin. Keo insisted it wasn't right and wanted to take apart the whole waist with liner again and alter it more and add a hook and eye. I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind a few more days. NO EXTRA CHARGE!!! For anyone understanding tailoring, for the small amount she charged vs the amount of time and skill she put into this, she wasn't compensated nearly enough! She's better than a surgeon! She and the gentleman working there were patient, pleasant, easy to convey your needs and perfectionists! Don't bother going anywhere else! Thanks Keo!!! I'm a lover of fine suits and dress. I've been coming to John's for a few years now because the quality and customer service is totally unmatched. Beautiful Italian suits, pants, sport coats, and fine shirts. They understand how to perfectly tailor a coat and pants. I'm a big guy, so getting a suit tailored correctly can mean the difference between "fat guy in a little coat" and Ray Liotta in Goodfellas. This is a rather small shop but they have a bigger shop in Minneapolis. I like coming to this location because it feels quaint and more personal. If you don't see exactly what you want there, he will have as many more options as it takes over from the other shop within a day (with a few other things for you to peruse). When my wife needed her dress altered for a funeral we were heading to that same day, I called and they said they would do whatever it takes to fix the dress. They most certainly did. It was perfect. And they did it while we waited there. Customer service is above and beyond. The very finest materials. If you'd like to feel like a million bucks, let John's tailors fit you for a fine Italian suit. I always struggle with trying to find someone to do alterations that I know that I can trust. I'm in my lower 20s and am in weddings what seems to be every other weekend. I'm thankful I can always go to Johns Tailors. It's in a small strip mall and it's a smaller location, I've been lucky to have been in there with only one or two other people. The second you walk in there you're greeted with a smile, which is something so little, but means so much. They explain the process to you, they mark the dress for adjustments, and you can pay that day or when you pick it up. The process does not take long AT ALL. The quickest alterations I've had done, hands down. Plus, they're so good, that it's like an extra bonus. It's usually done a week after dropping it off. I love Johns Tailors, and even though it's about a 30 minute drive away from my house, I still go to them because I know I can trust them to do an unbelievable job and in a timely manner. read more

If you're looking to have a garment you really care about altered, I highly recommend John's. I previously had alterations done on my wedding dress near where I live in Washington, DC, which were somewhat disappointing... On the Monday before my Saturday wedding, I was in Minneapolis and on the phone to John's Tailors to see about a rush job to fix the issues with the dress. My aunt, mother, and father all have had work done there with great success, so I was hopeful it would work out. I was able to get in right away on Monday, and all of the issues with the other shop's alterations were resolved BEAUTIFULLY by Thursday. It was such a relief to know my dress for the big day was going to look as snazzy as I had hoped when I purchased it, and it turned out even better than expected after he was done with it. The work was expertly done, and you can tell that he put a lot of care into how it would look in the end - he also noticed some additional issues that he took the time to fix up, which I think really made a huge impact for the total effect. Always excellent craftsmanship from this family-run local shop. I've had them shorten the sleeves of a leather jacket bought in Italy. Nader even shortened the zipper in the sleeves to make that work and it looks fabulous. I've had them custom make a heavy woolen winter coat and also a silk woman's shirt - both were wonderful garments I loved for years. I cannot recommend John's Tailor enough! He is no doubt my go to tailor for any of my tailor needs. I have brought to him shirts, pants, but most importantly, my Indian clothes. Traditional Indian clothes are not easy to tailor (many tailors in India don't even do a good job), but I know I can count on Nader to perfect my complex Indian outfits. My husband and I both brought our expensive wedding outfits for him to fix, and he did a fantastic job. Especially if you have something important, you want someone you can trust. I ADORE this place! Mindy Kaling says having a tailor makes you seem scary and important, and I don't know if that has come true for me, but I have been a repeat customer at John's Tailors and am always in love with the work they do! I had my wedding dress tailored here, an expensive dress for a black tie wedding, and many less fancy items that now fit perfectly. I even have a few relatively "cheap" items I've taken in but I just adore them and it's still worth it to have the perfect fit. I took in a dress recently that had a torn sleeve and they were able to remove the sleeves and make it look like it was meant to be like that. They mended a rain coat seam that was falling apart for me and fixed a zipper at no cost on a jacket I brought in. The alterations can get expensive but it is worth every penny. Can't recommend them enough, and have referred several friends to them who also have glowing reviews of their own to share. read more

My husband heard about them from a friend, and many, many garments later, we keep coming back. Nadir is friendly, professional, and always remembers how you like your clothes to fit. He has tailored at least 20 items for me over the past 3 years and he has done at least 15 items for my husband. He also tailored my sisters wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses. I wanted my strapless bridesmaid dress to be taken in a little so I wouldn't be pulling it up all day. Johns Tailors did a great job but it cost a lot more than I was expecting to pay. They don't have their prices listed on their website and they couldn't give me an estimate over the phone. I brought it in and they said it would be done in a week, not realizing that it was going to cost $72.85 just to get it to fit a little better. I just picked up the dress today, 7 days later, and I am SO pleased with their craftsmanship! I will definitely be back! The length is perfect even though I didn't have my heels the day he measured. I took my wedding dress here for alterations on the recommendation of my mother in law, and I was nervous at first considering I couldn't find very many reviews regarding wedding dresses. He took my lace dress in about 2 sizes, shortened the scalloped lace hem, added a bra into the lining of the dress, and added a bustle. I recently moved to the Roseville area and needed to find a new tailor. Looking online, Johns Tailors had great reviews so I thought I would try them out. I am very short, and need almost every pair of pants I ever buy, hemmed. As such, I have been to numerous tailors to have jeans hemmed. When I brought them in, I was very surprised to hear that it would take almost a week. That was fine, I had the time. I had brought in the shoes I intended to wear with the jeans, I asked that she make them so that they were just barely above the ground, almost skimming the ground. She pinned them and I went to pay. I was SHOCKED that it cost $25 to have the original hem put back on. I have never paid more than $15. I paid it knowing that would be the last pair I brought in. When I got my jeans back, they were alomst two inches higher than they should have been for the shoes I brought in, so I had to go buy new shoes as well!! I never write these reviews, but after paying that much for a hem, I would have expected perfection. I have since found another tailor in the area who charges $16 for the same hem, and her hem is actually where I ask it to be. read more
