He explained in detail what the problem could be, made a few repairs that could have been contributing to the problem and explained each one, making sure I understood. He even showed me the pieces that needed repair and what had happened. I was still going to my former mechanic in South Plainfield but I am so happy that John's was recommended to me. I give this man a 5 star because he's really a nice man and honest which is a hard trait to find this days. My mom brought the car here because she was hearing and feeling something in the car by the way she explain my husband thought it maybe the transmission. Long story short mom asked if there was someone that could drive her to my house and he said, no but I will give you the money that the taxi will charge you. I picked up the car today and he said, I can't find anything wrong, drive it put the machine that will tell me what is wrong but no such code exist which I can't fix what's not broken. I'm going to let the shop's own words speak for themselves here. "I can't help you and I'm not going to recommend any of my competition." It's a 100 degree day in summer. I'm a woman traveling alone with a child through a NJ town I've never been before. My AC randomly stops working. I go to an auto repair store asking for local recs and they specifically recommend John's Auto Repair, saying to tell the shop we were sent there. So I do! I go to the auto repair shop, and while they are clearly busy, I wait my turn and put a smile on my now gross icky and sweaty face and tell them what's happened. Dude behind the counter just says he's too busy today -- which is fine, business and all -- but then when I ask him what he suggests I do, he shrugs and tells me: "I can't help you and I'm not going to recommend any of my competition. Take it to the dealer I guess." I mean ... really? That's what you say? I see they have lots of good reviews here, so they may be talented repairmen -- I don't really know, never got that far. But as far as human beings go, they leave a lot to be desired. (BTW, brought my car to a nearby shop where the guy behind the counter not only was willing to help but also, unbidden, brought my hot and sweaty kid a bottle of ice water bc she looked so poorly -- so yeah. I moved to NJ 3 years ago and was looking for a new mechanic. I heard good things about this place so when it was time to get my brakes and rotors replaced I stopped by John's Auto repair and spoke with Craig regarding the work. Once they took off the tires (mind you, I was leaving the shop to go to the store) and looked at my brakes Craig runs out of the store to catch me, he asked me who said I needed new brakes, as my brakes was still good and at least 70% before I needed to change them. So he put the tires back on FREE of charge!!!! I was pleasantly surprised as another shop might have replaced them anyway without my knowledge. I really appreciate their honesty and will be back when it's time to get any repairs done! I would recommend anybody who is looking for a mechanic shop to give them a try! Excellent and fast service. I called in the morning for a flat tire repair and I drove there around lunchtime thinking I will use uber to come home since they would need more time. I want to start off by saying that I have never trusted mechanics until I started taking my car to this shop. The mechanics are extremely knowledgeable and they won't rip you off. I brought my Honda Civic here recently after getting screwed over multiple times by wannabe mechanics and they have really restored my faith in the auto industry. In addition to my Honda repairs, my boyfriend has a BMW that he was recently in an accident with. The insurance company sent him to a mechanic that was giving him the run around instead of a solid answer. I can't begin to tell you how blown over I was with the time effort and care that the people at John's did for me when I was at their shop last Thursday. They spent almost 3 hours working on my car including phone calls to part suppliers in order to see if my car could be fixed without having to replace my engine. After we determined it would cost more than the car was worth I concluded that I would need to junk my car. When I went to pay my bill for the 3 hours that they worked on my car Craig told me that there was no charge because they were working on the car in order to get me an estimate. this is one of the most horrible workshops I've ever seen in my life. I draw van with trailer , and my trailer's tire start loose air. I stop by at John's shop , and ask to help me. I ask to install the plug( I found little hole in the tire). But the man at reception reject my request . I asked him: "Why????" It's 2 min job." He said : "we can not do it on the trailers." Another reviewer came in and said 'fix XYZ because another mechanic said that was the problem' and then was upset when there was another issue. That last negative review...brought their own parts?
