I spent 4 hours at this shop on a busy Saturday. I watched while Ken greeted every customer like a friend, answered every phone call with a smile and managed to have every customer leave happy. My car needed work and Ken and I walked through what needed to be done now and what could wait. I left quite satisfied with the repairs. But the car stuff can be learned, and I have always been satisfied with the work. The people stuff is the hard part and you have a good people person in Ken!! read more

Despite the sign out front that says "We Service All Makes and Models" they said they weren't able to fix the tire on my Tesla. They claim that Teslas require "special" tires (not true) and that they couldn't get the car on their lifts (again, not true ... I brought Tesla lift pads with me) Both Goodyear and Michelin have tires that fit the Tesla. (Michelin crossclimate+ XL, for example) I wasn't going to beg them for my business, but with all the Teslas on the road in Central NJ, this policy seems rather short-sighted. read more

This is the place with most horrible customer service. Both associate and manager are hostile and short temper. I called in for oil and differential fluid change and was told to come in next day. When I came in early morning, the store is still empty. I was told that differential fluid has to be ordered and can't be done in same day. I still wanted to get the oil changed done first since I have a long trip scheduled while waiting for the differential fluid in Tuesday. The store associate didn't like the idea and told me that I don't have an appointment and therefore they can't do oil change. When I showed her the phone call log, it is still not enough. Apparently in this place, I am supposed to be a liar until proved otherwise beyond reasonable doubt. Frustrated with the associate, I asked to talk to manager. Sal came in and listen to my story quickly. Without looking the system, he concluded that he can't do anything since I don't have the appointment. At this time, there is still no customer at the store yet and all of his workers were idle. While trying to show him the phone log, Sal got mad and yelled at me that "Get the fuck out of here". Shocked in disbelief, I walked out of the office. In the parking lot, I asked him politely: "What is your name sir?" Sal walked toward me yelling: "I am Sal, get the fuck out of here". This is not a place I wanted to risk my life and beg for the oil change. I fled from this store for good. read more

Brought my car in to have a recurring odd sound in my front left tire. Figured it was something minor. Left later that day with a bill over $600. New front brakes, new battery, tire inspections and rotation etc. To be fair...the mechanic, the front desk man etc. were all great, cooperative and knowledgeable. Problem is, Midas is very expensive. For instance, the new car battery installed cost was $169.00/installation was free. Home Depot sells the exact same battery for $99.00. Midas probably gets it even cheaper. That's almost 100% mark-up. Yikes! Maybe it's me but that sounds like license to steal. Especially from people who are under stress, just waiting for the inevitable sticker shock. I guess if you are going to Midas for work, make sure you get the DETAILED estimate up front. You might save a few dollars. read more

The reason for the one star rating is the dishonesty of the sales associate Michael (a middle-age white man). This led me to waste forty minutes of my time and have to do the maintenance of my car at a competitor due to: - Michael not honoring the $100 off coupon for the purchase of four tires at Midas. Michael would only give me $50 off, even tough the coupon was valid. I had received the coupon in the mail at the beginning of that week. - Michael telling me twice on the phone his price would be significantly cheaper than the quote I had from a competitor. The competitor was offering a promotion 'Buy 4 tires, get one free' on the premium brand Goodyear. After driving to this Midas, Michael quoted me a more expensive price than his competitor on an entry-level brand of tires. - Moreover, Michael suggested unnecessary work. I didn't get any work done at this location. Afterwards, I drove my car to his competitor for maintenance. I will never come back to this location and can't recommend them. That is too bad because this Midas has certified car repairers in their shop. read more

I took my car to Midas for an oil change because Honda and Walmart both had 3+ hour waits on the weekend. Midas didn't have any wait, but I think I figured out why... First, Midas told me I had to use the more expensive ($70!) synthetic oil in my 2013 Honda Civic. I told them I had been using regular oil consistently since I bought my car (which has 90,000 miles on it and runs fine), but they insisted that the manufacturer wouldn't let them use regular oil (pretty sure this is a lie), and refused to do the oil change unless I used synthetic. I relented and agreed to synthetic in the interest of saving time. However, several days after my oil change, on a trip up to Boston, the metal undercarriage protector of my car came loose and was ground to pieces on the highway, costing me $80 to replace. This was undoubtedly the result of Midas' incompetence. Bottom line: Midas was by far the worst and most expensive oil change experience I've ever had. You will see me camping out at Honda before I ever return to Midas. read more

Sal, the owner asked me to fight him in the back to finish my exhaust system that took 5 weeks (still incomplete). These guys know how to treat their customers. I went there to get a new tire after blowing mine out on a pothole the night before. It was (as always) the worst timing for me, I had a hectic day at work that I had to return to, and had a short deadline of only 1.5 hours. I was ready to be told that I needed to buy two new tires to be even, but he honestly looked at my car and told me that I'd be ok just replacing the one (saving me ~$200). They didn't have the tire I needed in stock and although they could get it, he told me that honestly it would be closer to 2 hours and didn't want to make me wait -- can't tell you how much I appreciate that honesty. THEN -- he proceeds to call around to local auto shops (his competition) to find out who has the tire in stock and can get me in and out in under and hour! After 4 or 5 calls, he finds me a place and lets them know I'm coming. I took his advice and headed over to this other place, where I got the work done in time just fine, but I will absolutely be returning to Midas from now on. They value you as a customer - they are honest and appreciate that time is valuable! read more

I used to live within walking distance of this Midas and so for several years I went almost exclusively to them for oil changes as well as tire service and other work. I literally cannot recommend them highly enough. The man who is usually behind the counter (and of COURSE I've forgotten his name) is an absolute peach; he often made friendly conversation with me as I waited for my car and he seems to be a genuinely nice, decent, honest guy. I have always been extremely pleased with the quality of the work done on my car. Be warned that this Midas is NOT fast. How long your service will take depends on how swamped they are; you may need to wait a long time, but they'll give you a time estimate and call your cell phone when it's time to come pick up the vehicle. There's a diner next door and many times I'd sit over there, nursing some hot chocolate or a bite to eat and reading a book while they worked on my car. If you cross 130 on foot (be careful) you'll find an Indian restaurant, a Japanese place and a pizza/sub shop. I don't know how Midas' prices compare to other garages in the area. It cost me about $700 to have my brakes changed and new rotors installed, plus some other minor work. Car repairs can sometime be expensive, though, and I have NEVER once felt like the Midas staff was intentionally overcharging or trying to fleece me. We ended up here after one of our brakes seized up on the highway and started to smoke. They were absolutely awesome. They didn't try to sell us a bunch of stuff we didn't need. We are from out of the state so were not familiar with the area, they replaced rotors, calipers, and what ever else was needed in a timely matter. I only wish that we were local, they would definitely get more business from us, and I would recommend them highly. read more

I went here after a blow out on the highway, they insisted I buy 2 tires, I get it, 4wd and we don't want one tire being different. The tires are 1.5" bigger than the tires on my car. If they knew anything about cars they would have realized that this is unsafe in a 4wd vehicle. I also found out after taking it to my normal mechanic they didn't balance the tires nor did they clean the rims at all before replacing the tire. I called to complain about this and the manager was super rude to me telling me he "wasn't going to trust some girls opinion and her backyard mechanic" I will NEVER go to another Midas. They made my vehicle unsafe for me to drive. My car senses when it needs 4wd and that extra 1.5 inches could have screwed up my vehicle badly. This is something that should have been checked and it wasn't and the manager was not willing to listen to me. So rude. read more

I made an appointment here to have my oil changed. Upon arriving about 10 minutes before the designated appointment time, I was told they were running about 30 minutes behind. The whole reason I made an appointment was so I could get in and out as quickly as possible. They couldn't even call me to tell me they were running behind. I guess they just expected me to sit there for 2 hours while I waited for them to work on my car. Considering there's at least 5 other places that do oil changes in a half-mile radius, that's just not acceptable. I walked out and won't be returning. read more

I took our car to this shop after being told the car needed exhaust from the flex hose back (new catalytic, etc) from another local shop - for $1200. Gary (at the desk) said he expected $500-600 for what he believed needed to be done, and it came in nearer $500, and looks/sounds great. Gary also identified a serious issue with the brakes, which I ended up taking care of myself, but his pricing was very much inline with what it should cost, and his included lifetime parts. So - excellent turn-around time for the job, good pricing, and honest service - I'll definitely be back. read more

Avoid this place if you have an older car. They replace entire parts instead of just what is necessary. They charge a ton of money this way. For example, my 99 civic needed a flex pipe and they told me to replace my front and middle exhaust pipe which cost $400, after I refused, he offered to do it for $375 and told me he's a no BS guy. I mentioned it is not worth spending that much money on my car so he said if I want to chug it he was willing to give me $200 because that's all it's worth!! I later went to Meineke in Elizabeth and got a new flex pipe for $155 after tax. Problem fixed. read more

WARNING! Do NOT use the Midas on route 130 East Windsor for ANY repairs or maintenance. On September 6th 2014 I drove my car in for a routine brake pad replacement( the pads were still in good condition but considering I paid $1000 a year prior for a brake system overhaul, I wanted to avoid expensive repairs). After "replacing" my brake pads the mechanic told me that braking power won't be %100 but rather %60 because my tires are worn (bullshit). 10,000 miles later I'm driving home from the mall when I suddenly realize my car won't stop when pressing on the brake pedal and my car was making a crunching sound from the wheels even when I was not braking. I pulled in to the first mechanic shop I could find and dropped my car off (it was 7pm). The next morning I received a call from the mechanic who told me I had NO brake pads at all! I had metal rubbing on metal causing more damage to my car. After showing the mechanic my receipt for the brake job I got done in September he told me there is no way my pads would be so worn down after slightly less than 10,000 miles. He advised me to go back to Midas and demand an explanation and refund. When I went to Midas I respectfully asked Gary Silverman the Manager for a refund or explanation. He was quick to deny ever selling me brakes ( I had the receipt in hand) and after 30 seconds of talking me down and undermining my intelligence he escorted me out of the store and told me there is nothing he can do for me ( Midas brakes have a lifetime warranty, yet he's telling me he can't do anything even though it has only been a few months). So in the last 24 hours I have been sending emails and making phone calls to midas corporate headquarters to try and get an explanation. Someone else I know has told me he had a similar experience and found out that they charged him for NEW brake pads but installed a pair of OLD ones since they hoard brake pads taken off of other vehicles. Although it has been a total of $400 since September it could of been much worse, my life could of ended on the highway because a mechanic decided to risk someone's well being for a profit. So I highly recommend you people take your car elsewhere and don't deal with this guy. I demand an apology and a refund immediately! I will be taking the proper legal steps to fully expose these people. read more

Took my car for an oil change. I did not have an appointment but they were able to fit me in. They do recommend to have an appointment. If you are looking to to have a quick oil change done, this place is not for you. Expect to sit for at least an hour. You can drop your car off and come back to pick it up when it is done. They check your alignment, wheel balance, and rotate your tires. For my car they recommended that I have 3 things done; alignment, wheel balance, as well as replace a leaky valve. They priced it out for me and have an estimation on how long it would take. They did not pressure me to do the services when I told them I was going up hold off. The guy named bill at the front can come off almost like a smartass at times but it is just part of his character. He does seem genuinely nice and funny. The waiting area was a bit cold, the seats were actually comfortable (which is a good thing since you will be waiting awhile). They do have a men and women's bathroom. I did not use it so cannot tell you how clean it was inside. The waiting area has a keurig coffee machine, soda machine ($1.35 for a soda), as well as a bunch of magazines for you to read while you wait. The gentleman who pulled my car out of the bay and to the door was very nice. It was a cold winter day and I had my 4month old baby with me so he left the car on and turned the heat on so it would be warm in the car for her. Overall I had a good experience and plan to go again next time I need an oil change. read more

The "mechanics" aren't qualified and the "manager" is rude and pushy trying to sell you services you don't need. Terrible experience. As a P.S. I went there recently for a simple oil change. I know my car was in good condition as I have it serviced regularly. I called ahead of time because their website says that you are better off making an appointment. I made the appointment for 3:30. The man on the phone warned me in advance that their "oil change" included numerous other services and that it would take roughly an hour. I wasn't thrilled about it, but I was about to leave on a road trip and, frankly, I had a coupon. When I arrived there were 2 people in the waiting area so I figured I would need to wait a little but I would be okay since I had made an APPOINTMENT. Well....an hour later...my car hadn't been even moved from its parking space. As I sat and waited....and waited....and waited....I watched customers come in...to say that the manager was rude would be an understatement. I actually witnessed this interaction: Customer - Hi, I made an appointment on the website for 4:30. Manager - Well I don't see it. When did you make the appointment? Customer - I made it yesterday (Sunday). Manager - Well that was Sunday. I don't just sit around checking the website. SERIOUSLY?? Why allow people to make online appointments if they aren't going to be honored?? Finally, they took my car in...and after another hour, the manager tells me I need 4 or 5 things done. When I make it clear that I'm not having the work done then and there....he starts telling me how he can offer me all sorts of coupons. When I become non-committal, he tells me that he doesn't know if I like my car, but he has the same car and it has lasted him 200k miles because he gets all of the scheduled work done....implying that b/c I'm not committing to getting these items taken care of, my car won't last as long. Once it became clear I wasn't agreeing to come back, he became completely disinterested in me. When my keys were ready, he pretty much just threw them on the counter towards me without a word. Between the 2 hour oil change and the rudeness of the manager, not a chance will I be back. read more

I took my car to this location recently and they quoted me over two thousand dollars for repairs. The information they gave me regarding faulty parts were way off, the mechanic that inspected my car came up with the wrong diagnostics. I took my car to a different auto repair shop and was told that Midas had quoted me over $1300. My repairs were only $700. I will never ever take my cars to this place for repairs again. You need to know and be firm of what you really need. I brought in a coupon for front brake change at $99. They gave a list of "must" do for over $350 after saving: roller must change, brake oil must change, rear brake must adjust. The truth is, roller may be, it depends. But you should not change brake oil before manufacturer suggested time, usually well over 100,000 miles. It is not just wasting money, the grade of oil they use is most likely well below the original one from the manufacturer. Front brake has nothing to do with the rear one. I never have to adjust a brake in my whole life. read more

I brought my 2015 car in with a flat tire. I had already changed the tire and put on the donut. I went to Midas East Windsor and waited for 90 mins. During that time I saw the hardest sales tactics for oil filters, air filters and fuel cleaning services. All to senior citizens. When it was my turn I was told that my flat could not be repaired. I needed a new tire. Actually the sales guy told me I needed all four tire replaced. My car has 25k miles. I walked in looking for a puncture repair and the guy (name withheld) tried to sell me 4 new tires on a 2015 25K car. I declined and went to Walmart where they repaired the tire immediately for $10. Everyone has to make a living but I really didn't like the way they took advantage of the older people. One woman was even sold wipers and charged $10 to install them. Pep-boys and Advanced Auto install them for free. Will not be going back to Midas. I understand why its the 'golden touch' because they 'touch' your wallet unnecessarily! read more

BEWARE: RIPOFF!! Went in for an oil change and came out with a $936.94 estimate!! They claimed I desperately needed 2 new tires, a front end alignment and a water pump as mine was apparently leaking. I was told "you'll never make it back to Wisconsin" without this critical work being done. I decided to get a 2nd opinion and called John's Auto who was within a few hundred feet of Midas in East Windsor. Not only was the water pump quote 1/2 as much, when I got to John's they found no leak at all. They even ran a pressure test: nothing. I asked about the tires and was told I had 10-12,000 miles left in the tires I had. I then showed John my Midas estimate and asked if there was anything in it that he'd like to do and he said "no, you don't need any of this done, at least not now". John wouldn't take a penny from me for his shop time and diagnosis, despite his shop being fairly busy. Beware of Midas in East Windsor, NJ and by all means take your car to John's! read more
