If you're looking for place with great cocktails for a good price, this is the place! We immediately felt right at home after walking through the door. Our waitress was very friendly and was checking in on us. The wait time for your food is quite long so I recommend getting an appetizer. I absolutely love their boneless wings and the cheesy bread was a lot more than we expected. The fish and chips was also like no other, it was seasoned thoroughly and cooked perfectly. As a pepper jack girly, I also loved the pepper jack bites. They have many cocktails options and the prices are fairly reasonable. Been here a few times and have previously gone to other locations and I must say...this is by far the WORST takeout food experience I have ever had. They did not include an entire meal we paid for and the food we did get was practically inedible. Ordered a cheeseburger that's supposed to come with lettuce, onion, pickles...just a slop of meat cheese and bun. It tastes as sad as it looks. The mac and cheese has previously been great. Not sure why the pasta was undercooked and hard. And just clumps of weird cheese on the noodles. The only thing somewhat edible was the wedge salad. Except it didn't come with any dressing (that I also made sure to order extra in case they forgot it). Overall, save yourself the hassle and go to Burger King next time, at least they might give you your food that you paid for. I understand that our experience may have been better had we eaten in the restaurant but this is entirely unacceptable. Extremely disappointed and wish I could get a refund for this monstrosity of a meal (or lack thereof). read more

This location has cracked the suburban sports bar code. You can see two or three large flatscreen tvs from any seat in the house. The menu is full of bar food staples: burgers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches and more. You can wash it all down with a delicious adult beverage. Sodas and water are available if you're on the wagon. There probably isn't much I could say about Johnny's that most others haven't already. So instead of nuts and bolts, I'll just give preferences and specifics. Firstly, the $5 off Thursday burgers are really a great value. Secondly, the pizza is always a good choice. Thirdly, the Wilson sauce is grossly overrated, particularly on wings, but it makes for a great dipping sauce for fries or tots. And the thing you need to get any time you go are the cheese curds. Johnny's is one of the few places in KC that do the light coating frying of curds that make a great product resembling what you get at bars and taverns in Wisconsin. This location specifically can get pretty busy around happy hour given the proximity to the the old Sprint Campus. Parking can be a trick, so be prepared to walk a bit. And pro tip...sit on the lower level if you're gonna be here for any real length of time (closer to the better bathrooms). read more

After waiting over 40 minutes for our simple order of food (wings and salad), we opted to walk out. I would say the restaurant was roughly 1/2 full. This came at a point where tables that sat and ordered after us were served food... the same food that we ordered. Our waitress, 3 separate times, told us our food would be right out. A waste of nearly an hour of our lives only to leave without food. I've used other Johnny's locations for work meetings with somewhat similar results. I called Johnnys & talked to a manager to reserve a table for the Super Bowl Sunday. Last year we reserved a table & it was a great experience. We paid $50 to reserve & was given a $50 gift card that du to use toward our bill. The manager I talked to this her said you would now have to pay $150 & could not use the gift card towards the bill for game day but would have to come back to use st a later day. I called other places that were no charge to reserve but all tables were taken. I was able to reserve a table at Buffalo Wild Wings for no charge. So Johnnys will not get my business the day of the Super Bowl or ever. That is not a good way to treat a good customer who frequented your business many times! read more

I was unfortunately unimpressed with this place. The music was turned up so loud that I couldn't hear my friends even at a wayyyy above-average conversation volume and our waitress was rude and standoffish. The food was okay but overpriced for what it was. Fries were super overcooked and we got so few of them that there may as well have not been any at all. Stopped to have some lunch with my wife while we were getting some errands done. When we pulled in, it took forever to find a parking spot. That shopping center it is located in was not set up for any of the businesses to have a really busy day. Narrow passages between the cars, narrow gaps between each parking space, and some of the not-so-busy businesses put out those stupid signs that say only their patrons can park there. Wound up parking on the far opposite side of the parking lot from Johnny's. Johnny's was busy, as it usually is at every Johnny's we've frequented. The waitress who came to get us and seat us took us to the seating area behind the bar to what she believed was an open table, but apparently, some patrons walked right past the sign right at the front that said "Wait to be seated" and helped themselves to the table. So the waitress had us stand/sit at the two open seats at the end of the bar while she had the table behind us cleaned off from people who had just left. The problem was, as soon as she walked away to take care of that issue, another waitress came and cleaned it off hurriedly and seated someone who had just walked in there after us. Took a long time before anyone would wait on us or acknowledge us at all regarding a table; I had to stop the waitress who had cleaned the table we were supposed to get and ask her if we now were not going to get a table since she had given that table to someone else who arrived after we did. She told us she would put our names back on the list for a table as soon as one came open. At that point, my wife and I decided to just sit at the bar and eat there, even though the twenty minutes we had already been sitting there we watched the two bartenders struggle to keep up with everyone's drink and food orders who were seated around the bar. Finally got a couple of drink orders in, and both my wife's margarita and my cocktail were very watered-down versions of what they should be. I asked for premium liquor in my drink, and I couldn't even taste it. Same with the second drink I ordered almost an hour later. When we finally got to order food, the wait for the food after ordering wasn't long. My wife ordered the fiesta salad, which is her Johnny's go-to. This Johnny's made the salad a lot smaller than the Johnny's in Shawnee. Still tasted as good as the one she was used to, though. The large homemade chips that come in the salad are the bomb, as is the jalapeno ranch dressing that comes with the salad. I ordered the burnt end platter, which I've had before. This time, the pastrami burnt ends were dry, with very few onion straws and very little Wilson sauce on it. Sourdough bread was awesome; I should have ordered some extra. The pickles were plentiful as usual, but they were not spectacular pickles. Personally, I think some spicy bread and butter or garlic dill pickles would complement this dish a lot better. This is the first time my wife and I have been to this particular Johnny's, so I'm hoping this visit was a fluke. Johnny's has been a consistent go-to in other areas of KC, so we'll have to come back and give it another shot sometime. read more

Had a buddy recommend this so i have it a try after work. Place was poppin with ppl which is always a good sign. I got the smoked gouda burger and it did not disappoint. Usually when i order a burger medium its still overcooked. Not this time. It was cooked perfectly. The fries were just fries but that's ok they aren't supposed to be the star of the meal. While we have had many different servers and experienced good service over the years with ALL, I have gotten out of the habit of writing reviews and need to get back to it. Most recently, Bobby served us and always takes really good care of us. I especially like that they don't "nickel and dime" you. For example, if I ask for extra pickles or dressing, they just bring it. The decor isn't what you would expect in a strip mall as there is lots of beautiful , dark wood that gives the place lots of character. Popped in here for something to eat with my wife mainly because it's Johnny's and we've been to other locations enough that we know what to expect. Who hasn't eaten or spent a night with friends at a Johnny's Tavern? The food is going to be good, solid, somehow interestingly architected, and probably not as good for you as your doctor would like. The service is going to be friendly and on top of things. The atmosphere is going to be "tavern" with lots of people and conversation and few families with kids... but early enough that the atmosphere isn't "bar." And so, with those expectations set... we experienced exactly that. :-) And there was an impromptu show! We sat on the porch, and watched a couple of guys trying to connect with every table of ladies that popped up. It was quite entertaining, and maybe a little early in the evening. Johnny's Tavern has never let me down at any of their many area locations. The 119th Street location is no different. Love that they are so conveniently located nearby my house AND that they open at 11am on the weekends. Very kid friendly (see exhaustive kids menu), which comes in handy when you're lugging around a 1.5 year old. Only complaint with the location is that there aren't any booths, just high and low top tables. Favorites on the menu include the Up & Under and Slim Wilson burger. Seasoned fries, fry/ring combo, or truffle Parmesan fries for the win every single time. Solid selection of draft beers at this location. Nice bar, good service, food isn't bad. They do not carry Merlot wine and got rid of their potato skins; both on my favorite list. They have cabernet (very bitey boxed wine) at $6, and pino noir at $9 for a fairly small pour. The chili was good and their white rice is good. For those that don't have a big appetite, sides are the best option. Also, for smokers, you can't smoke on the patio - you have to stand OUTSIDE the open fence to smoke (seems abit sillly). read more

Stopped in here and it happened to be Burger night. Thursday I believe. Their regular cheese burger $6 or any specialty burger $7. I do not normally go for a burger but the "hot cap" caught my eye. Attempted to get pizza twice from this restaurant. First time, I didn't get the pizza that I ordered through doordash. only received the buffalo chicken dip that I ordered. Called Door Dash and got a refund. Reordered the pizza. Received it 75 minutes later, I e cold and burned on the bottom. Door Dash refused to give me full refund for the pizza. Got a whole $6.91 refund on the pizza. Three hours after placing my original order I'm eating cereal and out $15 plus a $7 dollar tip that was charged before I received my cold burned pizza. Stopped by Johnny's Tavern after work last week for a few drinks with my co-workers. I got there around 3:30 PM and left a little after 5. The bartender girl was in no mood to make any mixed drinks (yes, she told me this) so I went with rum and coke. During Happy Hour their wells are only $2. My friends ordered a plate of sweet potato fries and chips and guacamole. The guacamole was good but the sweet potato fries were way too salty. All the employees seemed really hung-over. But maybe that's typical for a sports bar? I wouldn't know. Their bathrooms are clean. It started to get busy right before I left (around 4:45). The place filled up really fast. Upon arriving to our awesome table Alex immediately brought me a gift card. it was a great experience. Good food, & good service. Dexter was an excellent server & it was a great evening overall. Came for happy hour on a Friday night with some coworkers. Our server was really on her toes and kept coming to check on us and keep the beers coming. We ordered some potato skins and buffalo chicken strips and both were pretty good, those strips were spicy! As the host sat us down we waited over 15 min and not one single server greeted us or asked us if we wanted a drink.
