Our apartment leasing company uses Johnny's lock as their "EMERGENCY locksmith". Our door was jammed last night when we returned from the grocery store (we didn't lock our keys inside the door is physically broken) and we had no way of getting into our apartment. So I called Johnny's lock to see if we could get someone to come out (around 7pm). Whoever answered literally said "Oh I wish there was something I could do for you, try calling another locksmith". Isn't this company supposed to be 24 hours and an emergency service?! The only other two locksmiths I could find in Chico were closed, because they aren't a 24 hour and emergency service. So we had to wait on our porch for hours until our neighbors came home, then I had to climb on their balcony over to our side and thankfully we had left the sliding glass door unlocked. We are students that had online finals due last night and other finals to study for and it was incredibly stressful not knowing if we were going to get into our apartment to our backpacks and laptops. We even considered breaking the window in the front of our apartment (we're on the second story). Johnny's lock is ridiculous. It's not a 24 hour or emergency service. They didn't care at all that we were in a compromising position due to something that wasn't our fault. I'm shocked by how rude these people are. read more

At Johnny's Lock & Safe, they were willing and able to research and cut a key for the locking fork on my 1936 Wards Hawtorne bicycle. I would not trust this work to just anyone. Montgomery Ward commissioned the Monark Battery Company (later Monark Silver King) to build a line of aluminum bicycles based on Monark's own line of aluminum bikes. The Hawthorne versions were dubbed the Duralium. This rekeying job was not an easy task and Johnny's staff was very nice and incredibly competent - and the price was very reasonable. read more

Excellent service. I do not recall the name of the guy who helped me, but he was quick and right on his time estimate. I had my early 90s truck ignition and doors keyed to match. I felt price was reasonable and, more importantly, it was accurate to what he estimated. Only down side was some initial miscommunication where I was told that I could bring my vehicle in for the service but was not explicitly told "you need to make an appointment". Did not actually use this service because at around 11 last night I had locked my keys and phone in my car so called from a store phone. When I called the first time and got an answering machine, I didn't leave a message because it wasn't my phone. After getting permission from the business to use their number to leave a message, I called back and someone picked up the phone and BEEEEEPed me loudly. I called and talked to Scott who was extremely rude on the phone. Not only did he have a bad attitude, he mocked me as if I was an idiot. Unfortunately I was in a desperate situation and no other locksmiths could help me with my problem. Upon arrival, the locksmith called me and was also, very rude on the phone. His service call lasted about two minutes and he did not help me whatsoever. He charged me $60 for absolutely nothing. Oh wait, maybe a two minute drive over and about $2.00 in gas. I was really impressed with the professional demeanor that was displayed at the visit. I phoned in the afternoon asking the price and procedure needed to come to my home and make a duplicate car key. I lost my keys and had no transportation. The representative gave me an exact amount for fee and said he could be here before closing that day. I can't say enough nice things about this place!!! I had some unique key blades that I needed cut & cut right the first time; it would have taken weeks to replace if they had been wrong. I was helped right away, & the gentleman who assisted me was not only very friendly, but he also kept me up to date about what he was doing to accommodate my weird keys. BOY, did he know his keys!!! I really felt like my new keys were taken extra good care of! L*** not only was impossible to reach the right dept-but I got hung up on 4 times today. DONE johnnys had what i needed in stock and slightly more expensive but you get what you pay for in service. over the phone he offered several options and was awesome to deal with. not only did jonnys have the 5" in stock but.. being pleasant goes a LONG ways unlike the other place which is down the street at over 2x the price and not in stock. read more

Fan-frickin'tastic customer service! You can't go wrong here. The sales associate, Alex was helpful, informative, and personable. We changed out the deadbolts on our house today, and wanted the added security of having mushroom pins installed within the lock itself to prevent bumping, and make it next to impossible to pick. Alex hooked us up, showed us what he was doing, taught us about how dead-bolt locks are put together and how they work. On top of that, he explained to us why it was going to be one of the best, and one of the most secure dead-bolt lock we could install. Period. What's really IMPRESSIVE is that he took a $17.00 Brink's dead-bolt from Wal-Mart, and turned it into something priceless to me all for less than $15.00, and it's safer, and better than what they sell at the stores for the $30-$40 range. I'm not easy to impress when it comes to customer service, but this place definitely goes the extra mile. Like I said at the beginning - You can't go wrong here!!!! read more

As a property manager, The experience I had with this company was extremely unprofessional. When calling and inquiring about making a copy of a key the representative who answered the phone was extremely rude. His communication was poor and not helpful. Simply put, I called to make a copy of a key from this company. As a company vendor I did not expect to be referred to a different company for the cutting of my key. After I asked 3 times if they provide this service, His response was "Well Yea? I was spoken to as if I was an idiot and I did not appreciate the tone. In the past we have used this company for eviction lockouts re-keying homes and providing laundry security. Per this conversation I have canceled the vendor relationship and will continuing business with another company. The man that answered the phone today's job I believe, is to promote business bring in clients not refer or Outsource services. As well as maintain a professional and respectful customer service attitude. He displayed none of these skills. Good luck to this employee as I feel he should be reprimanded. I will come by the store and speak with a manager as I do believe this deserves a conversation. Amazed this person has a Job still as I see in the reviews that this is a pattern of behavior. As far as I'm concerned, they are a RIPOFF. But probably so are all of the others. I lost my car keys and found the key code in the glove compartment. So I took it down to them and they charged me $56 to "look up the key code on their computer" (literally less than 30 seconds) and make TWO keys. That's $28 per key! If I had brought my key down to them to make another, it would have been $6. THAT IS PRICE GOUGING PLAIN AND SIMPLE, and literally should be illegal. It is criminal. Taking advantage of people like that. FIFTY-SIX DOLLARS for TWO keys. Just because they can and you have no choice. So I won't be going to them again, but like I said, they are probably all the same. If anyone knows of someone who is actually ETHICAL, and CARES about their customers, and chooses to not treat them badly, and not take UNDUE ADVANTAGE, let me/us know, and we will go to them. read more

I would NEVER use Johnny's Lock & Safe again. I made an appointment 2 weeks in advance to have them come to an easy to find location and open 2 filing cabinets that we had lost the keys to . They were very late and then went to the wrong location across town. My appt. was for 9:30am and they arrived at 11am. It took the guy about 8 minutes to unlock the cabinets and they still had the nerve to charge us. Bad Business! I grew up in Chico and will be telling everyone I know NOT to use Johnny's Lock & Safe.
