Delicious white chicken chili. Generous portions--I added the saltines--childhood comfort combo.

Johnny's Kitchen, in Lodi, is my go-to when I want to treat myself with a meal out. I usually get takeout, and either eat at Lodi Pt. State Park nearby, or bring it home. This weekend I got a bowl (pretty sure it's a whole quart) of their white chicken chili. I ate half last night, and I'm beginning the second half right now. It is SO. GOOD! I added the saltines (when I was a kid, that's how we ate chili). November 2025.

My mother first discovered Johnny's Kitchen after reading about it on a Facebook page. There had been a post about their special "fried fish sammy with house tarter sauce, tomato, and lettuce all between our homemade brioche bun." She's a sucker for a great fried fish sandwich... so, of course, I had to come check out the reviews here on Yelp. Well, with all this hype? We had to visit, so I decided I'd take some time off from work so that I could take her for a little roadtrip and we could grab lunch. We got to Johnny's Kitchen around 11:45am on a Thursday (they open at 11:30am on Thursdays) and there were already a couple folks in line ahead of us... so yeah, it's a popular place. Now, there are two important things of note when visiting Johnny's Kitchen. One, food will take a bit of time. As the business owner replied to an earlier review, the restaurant is "a very small place with a small kitchen and only one chef (Johnny) who is cooking all the food to order for everyone who comes in and calls in an order to go." So just be mindful that you'll need a bit of patience after ordering your food. My mother and I knew this going into the visit, so we had no issues with the bit of a wait. Two, there's a mention on the door of the restaurant that there's no public restroom available. I'm not going to hold that against the restaurant because they DO have the sign, but I will note that it's an inconvenience. At least one patron during the time my mother and I were visiting went looking for the bathroom and were stopped by the person at the counter and told that a public restroom wasn't available. Previous to that, another restaurant patron had just walked into the room that adjoins the dining area to go looking for the bathroom. I get that the restaurant location is on the small side, but I do think it'd be helpful and hospitable for them to have even just a single stall restroom available to the public. In terms of the actual food quality, it's delightful. I tried one of the smash burgers (the 'pineapple express burger', which comes with grilled onions, grilled pineapple, ham, cheddar, bbq, and mayo) and my mother got to order her fried fish sammy. We also ordered the Mexican street corn side to split. Both sandwiches were delicious - even if very messy. The Mexican street corn had a delightful kick. The food is certainly worth the wait. Ambiance and service are welcoming. It definitely feels like a local favorite / hidden gem.

Tomato and avocado on focaccia bread. Wow!

Amazing ! A must stop in the finger lakes trail. You can bring your our wine and enjoy .

I realize the kitchen is small, but... waiting 50 minutes for an ok burger and salad was a bit much. Hand-cut fries was the best part.

Delicious food! Perfect environment- quaint, clean, and relaxing. Will 100000% be back. Plus, lots of gluten free options.

We came upon this little diner type restaurant while vacationing in the Finger Lakes. The menu looked surprisingly good and it was cute inside. No complaints about the food, it was actually some of the best we had the entire vacation. However, the wait for the food was sort of ridiculous. We ordered pancakes and a breakfast sandwich and waited 50min for it to come. I gave 4 stars for the quality and taste of the food, but for the wait I would give them a solid 1 star.

Cute little food/ice cream joint! Service was quick and there were so many options for the ice cream.

They are one of the few wineries that also serve food, so its a great place to grab lunch. The sandwiches we got were amazing (the Brooklyn and the Cuban). I would give the deli and bakery a 5/5. We were fortunate to have Keith as our…read moreserver, and he may have been one of the most remarkable people I've met in quite some time. His deep knowledge and passion shone through as he shared the rich history of the winery. The owners originally purchased land in Bucks County for farming but later moved to the Finger Lakes region, where they expanded into winemaking, a bakery, and a deli--a true craft-driven endeavor. Tabora was offering a special deal: buy one tasting flight, get the second free. Normally, I gravitate toward the drier the better, but the Winemaker's Jam caught my eye. My flight included: 1. 2021 Pinot Noir 2. 2021 Cabernet Franc 3. N.V. Heritage Noir 4. 2021 Maréchal Foch I started with the Pinot Noir, a light-bodied wine with aromas of cherry blossoms, strawberries, and dried fruit--absolutely sensational. Keith explained that all of Tabora's wines age in used French oak barrels but never for more than 18 months. Instead of prolonged oak aging, they transition the wine to stainless steel, preserving freshness while imparting just a touch of oak influence. Next up was the Cabernet Franc, which had soft tannins, a light body, and notes of raspberry and green bell pepper, with a slight oak finish--and wow, it was good. Then came my hands-down favorite: the Heritage Noir, a blend of different wines that was dry yet bursting with layered fruit flavors. It was truly an incredible experience on the palate. Finally, I sampled the Maréchal Foch, a sensational, jammy wine with hints of blackberry and pomegranate and a beautifully smooth finish. But Keith wasn't done yet--he had me try a few more, including an unoaked Cabernet Franc, which became another favorite. Aged 100% in stainless steel, it was bright with red fruit, hints of cherry, vanilla, and a touch of chocolate on the finish. Beyond the wines, Keith himself was a standout. As we sipped, he shared his life journey--from New York to Hawaii, a path shaped by his mother and sister. His stories were captivating, and if he ever writes a book, I'd be the first in line to read it. Cheers to Keith and Tabora for an unforgettable experience! #fingerlakes

There's a friendly dog off leash who seems to be the house pet, but he definitely comes looking for food so be on the lookout. Service is friendly and helpful. We started out with some beer and ordered a pint of the two goats, red ale and a flight with the Seneca Lodge, peach blonde, war horse, and two of the red ales because they were out of the last one. Actually really enjoyed all of them. I normally go for darker beers, but the peach blonde was refreshing and would be perfect for summer. To start we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was OK but needed something crispy then pita. A toasted crostini was definitely called for. For entrées, we ordered two bistro burgers, which were both cooked nicely and complimented our beer nicely. Probably could've used a little more tomato jam, but we enjoyed our meal and the reasonable prices.

There are a few really good breweries in the area and Scale House is right up there with them. If you've read any of my other brewery reviews, you know my top three considerations are outdoor seating (meaning it's dog friendly), convenient food choices, and of course the quality of the beer. They have a spacious covered deck and a great lawn area, so their outdoor seating is excellent. They have an outdoor stage and we were fortunate to get to see some of the local talent performing the afternoon we were there. The inside area is also pretty roomy for a brewery and has more of the industrial/earthy feel that I dig, rather than a contemporary vibe. They also have a built-in pizza shop and it appears as though many patrons go there as much for the pizza as the beer. My one regret from our trip is that I didn't take advantage of the opportunity to grab a pie there...it looked fantastic. Top it all off with a solid beer selection and Scale House is definitely a place that I'd go a little out of my way to visit. I am going to try to talk my wife into heading back there...mostly to get a shot at trying a Meat Special. For the size of the store, they really have a good variety and strike a good balance of basic groceries vs gourmet items. The coffee shop has the standard coffee and tea drinks with some seasonal specialty drinks plus a moderate assortment of baked goods. I tried the blueberry muffin, lemon lavender scone, and a matcha latte from the coffee shop. The baked goods were great. Both had great texture (none of the dryness that cheap GF baked goods often suffer from) and nice flavours. The scone was closer to the dessert side of the baked good spectrum (sweet and almost a shortbread cookie texture), but the muffin was less sweet and wholesome-tasting.
