We had the original, outdated cabinets, appliances, flooring, and windows to deal with. Justin did an incredible job with the demo first (getting everything out with no damage to the house; cleaning up along the way; getting the dumpster delivered and then removed.) Every time I came home, I was delighted to see that the space was swept and safe for my daughter and our dog to walk through. After the demo, Justin quickly moved into flooring, plumbing, and cabinet installation. Every single construction job requires pivots. The key is how your contractor handles unforeseen changes WHEN they come up (because they do.) When our cabinets were delivered with 6" of additional width (our outside cabinet partner's fault!) Justin quickly helped pivot and reflow the layout to fit the space. What would have set us back three weeks was reconfigured and fixed within three hours. The final product is absolutely GORGEOUS. Everyone who visits asks who did the work. It is a joy to recommend someone as detail-oriented, kind, and talented as Justin. We will be working with him on any future projects and cannot recommend him enough.

He redid our kitchen - floor tiles, new cabinetry, backsplash. For the floor he took out the (huge) fridge, oven, dishwasher and the cabinets to tile properly to the wall underneath them. We got our countertops from Ikea and he was flexible fitting in around their schedule. And for the backsplash he did a really great job: Everything aligned correctly even though we picked mini subway tiles which were really awkward to cut (see photos). He also went to the warehouse without complaint when it turned out I hadn't bought enough tiles. Oops. Really nice guy, will definitely ask him again if the need arises.

When we were choosing a contractor, Mr. Contractor's Yelp rating gave me some hesitation - especially given the high ratings elsewhere. But when I read the reviews themselves rather than just looking at the overall rating, many of the complaints seemed to involve relatively small jobs. We needed someone for a large, complicated renovation of a very old house, and the experience and capabilities Ken demonstrated seemed much better suited to that kind of project. Having now completed the job, I'm very glad we made that distinction. This was a big project, and our old house threw plenty of surprises at us. Once the demo began, our engineer found that part of the kitchen needed to be structurally rebuilt from the foundation up. That meant coordinating with our architect and structural engineer and substantially expanded the work. Despite that and the many twists and turns that followed, Ken and his crew kept things moving and completed an extraordinary amount of work in just 10 weeks. What really stood out was the crew. These guys were craftsmen who took genuine pride in what they were building. More than once, they spent extra time on something simply to get the finished result just right or recommended enhancements that were not charged. A friend who is a high-end interior designer saw the kitchen afterward and was impressed by the quality of the construction and attention to detail. We also lived in the house throughout the renovation. The crew was friendly and respectful, and they cleaned up the work areas at the end of every day -- something we came to appreciate enormously during 10 weeks of construction. Was every little detail perfect the first time? No. But that's actually part of why I'm comfortable giving Ken five stars. When something wasn't right, he worked to make it right. He and his team stayed engaged through the end of the project, addressed our punch-list items, and have continued to stand behind their work afterward. And we LOVE the result. The kitchen has completely changed the way we live in the house. It has become the place where our family naturally gathers, and it's as comfortable and functional to cook in as it is beautiful. The new bathroom has been equally transformative. At the beginning, I worried that we might be spending too much on the project - and it was significant. But by the end, having seen the amount of work involved and the quality and care that went into it, I felt exactly the opposite: we received very good value for our money. My takeaway is that Ken's particular strength is a substantial, complex project where you need an experienced GC who can keep multiple trades moving, deal with unexpected conditions, solve problems as they arise, and see the whole thing through. Renovating a 130-year-old house isn't easy, and I'd much rather have a contractor who knows how to deal with the inevitable problems and stands behind the finished product. We'd happily hire Ken and Mr. Contractor again.

I tried to describe everything to the best of my ability, but as I'm not a finish carpenter, didn't understand all the technical jargon he was asking for. I live a few blocks away, and told him he could swing by if he just wanted to take a second look to make things easier, as he was getting progressively more frustrated and surly with me. He refused and chose to shout at me and behave like an angry teenager. First off he charges by the day (price was not cheap!), which i have never done, but seemed to know what he was doing and i wanted the full bathroom remodel to come out perfect for my elderly mother. So against my better judgement I accepted his offer. His employees slacked off for days to juice the job for all they could. A 7 day job turned into 12! Second he charged me for a full days work to deliver the materials which turned into an argument that i decided to let slide. Btw do to many health issues I did not inspect the work and paid him in full. When I did inspect the work there were tiles not placed properly, the door frame was crooked, and the glass shower doors were not adjusted correctly so water was spilling onto the outside floor. When I asked him to come back to make the necessary repairs he showed up screaming and trying to bully me. On top of all that they left the old toilet behind which is very heavy and i cannot lift do to back issues. He refused to fix the mistakes. So much for that 1 year warranty he claims to give on his website. Him and his employee's are a bunch of crooks!! I would have posted photos but I'm not computer savvy. The reviews are fake!! No way this guy has positive reviews and a 5 star rating. I actually hired him because of his rating. I'll never make that mistake again.
