It's time for another update! I've been coming to this restaurant for several years now. In fact, I've been coming here ever since they were located in a smaller spot across the street from their current location. This restaurant is known for its bold, Latin-American and Pacific-inspired street food-style dishes. They offer items such as empanadas, skewers, salads, and much more! This restaurant has a relaxed, unpretentious, surf-inspired vibe. It is perfect for a lowkey lunch or casual dinner rather than a formal night out. The restaurant is spacious and offers plenty of seating. While it is located in a big shopping center, parking can sometimes be hard to find. The staff and owner are friendly and welcoming, creating a positive and personable experience. The food is always ready in a reasonable amount of time. I have had a positive experience on every single one of my visits. My go-to order is always the lunch combo. The lunch combo comes with your choice of two empanadas, fries or salad (or half and half), and a drink. This restaurant offers a nice variety of empanada fillings, such as beef, Cajun sausage, chicken, BBQ pulled pork, chorizo and potatoes, and many more options. They also offer dessert empanadas. I usually stick with the beef empanadas and fries, and I upgrade my drink to one of their lemonades (guava, pineapple, or watermelon). They also offer signature dipping sauces such as chimi-churri, chipotle (my favorite), and BBQ. As a pro tip, you can also ask for a chili sauce that is not listed on the menu. The chili sauce adds a nice kick to the empanadas and fries. The beef empanada has a classic, savory ground beef filling. It is crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor on the inside. The fries are crispy, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. They pair well with the empanadas and dipping sauces. They are very generous with their portions of fries, giving you a heaping amount. It's enough to share with another person. The only lemonade that I've tried is their guava lemonade. The lemonade is sweet, tart, and refreshing. Overall, this restaurant offers a unique vibe, great service, and some of the best empanadas in the San Fernando Valley. If you are in the mood for food that is bursting with flavor in every bite, this is the go-to restaurant for you! I've only been here twice when visiting the valley, and I can say that the beef tinga empanadas are good!! i have tried both the chicken and the Kailua pork empanadas which are good too-- however, I would say get the beef tinga if you're thinking of trying just one! there's a large parking lot so easier parking than some of those really tight fitting parking lots in the valley the actual inside of Johnny pacific is more spacious than you think. It's clean and plenty of space for solo dining, a casual date, or even group dining tables! I remember when this place was a hole in the wall. They even serve beech now! I hope that they continue to flourish in this economy!- sending all the positive energy!

Atmosphere - Clean and casual. Lots of parking. Customer service - Friendly and helpful. Taste - We ordered empanadas (beef, chicken, mushroom, kalua, chorizo, apple, pineapple, flanada). Our favorites were the mushroom, kalua, chorizo, beef, apple, flanada and pineapple. We also loved the sauces (chimichurri, basil, caramel, chipotle and sweet and sour). The watermelon, pineapple and guava Fresca were fruity, refreshing and tasty. We loved everything so much we ordered 8 more to go! Price - Above Average but worth it!!! We live 33 miles away but woo be back!!!

Been coming here since they had a smaller store front across the street. Always greeted with a friendly staff. Everything here is so delicious. Can never decide on which empanada to eat. The chorizo and beef ones are definitely my favorite. Whenever the pumpkin ones are in season, I always have to stop by and pick those up.

Best empanadas ever!!!! The owner knows how to make a good, tasty and authentic empanada! The inside has plenty of seating if you want to hang out and eat. I prefer to get mine to go. The chicken empanadas are my fav and the chimi churri dipping sauce rocks my world! And let's not forget the "Apple Empanadas!!!' They come with a caramel dipping sauce that will blow your socks off! *Plenty of parking in the lot

Not the cheapest (4 empanadas for $19) but man they're tasty. Of the 3 types I got, my favorite was the chicken el pastor. Love how crispy and fried the empanadas are. Very flavorful, decent size, labeled on the box so it's easy for you to recognize which is which, and tons of sauces. I enjoyed most of the sauces but liked the chimichurri the best. Nice polite staff when I walked in. Only did take out but things looked clean inside with nothing fancy regarding seating. Heard it can get busy but I came off hours and only a few people were inside. Would definitely order again!

The first time my bf and I tried this place was for a Yelp event last year. We haven't had the chance to come back till today for a quick lunch before running some errands! It was a bit busy when we got here and parking was a little tough. Although it's a large parking lot, it's busy with the Laundromat and Food4Less right there amongst other stores. We walked in and checked out the menu and ordered Kailua Pig, Grilled Corn, Beef Tinga, & BBQ Pulled Pork Empanadas with some sauces. My favorite sauce is the Chimichurri which went well with everything! Everything was absolutely delicious but the Beef Tinga was too meaty and almost dry. But everything else was perfect! Staff were incredibly friendly and we were patient while they trained a new girl who was also very sweet and friendly. Love the vibes of this place, caught a glimpse of the owner Johnny briefly before he had to step out. These are by far the best empanadas in the valley. The outer shell is like no other and you'll be wanting more even after you're full! A true hidden gem, stumbled upon it with my coworker a few years ago when we were out on field duty together and we have been shouting their good graces and spreading the word ever since! Very kind and courteous service, delicious food, and cute little surfer/beach style interior. Empanadas are fried and positively scrumptious. Their assortment of side sauces are perfect compliments to the savory empanadas and they have dessert empanadas too!! Overall, you can't skip this one, do yourself a favor and drop by.

I love this spot, it's the perfect place to come on a lunch break! They keep the restaurant clean and open, with a big posted menu advertising all kinds of empanadas. And the EMPANADAS! They're huge and crispy and packed with filling. My favorite is the mushroom--followed by the kailua pig. I've tried a bunch of others, including the pastor, tinga, regular beef, and spinach and cheese. They're all delicious, if a little rich--I usually save half of each empanada for after my shift when I go during work cause I don't want to be food coma-ed out, lol. They're also so kind here. I'm looking forward to trying this spot when I'm not at work, and I can enjoy a beer with it.

love this empanada place, and their quality is always consistent!! i love how many veggie options they have, as well as sauce options!! the spinach and cheese empanada is my favorite, followed by the mushroom. the crunch of the empanadas is spot on, i've never had a better empanada tbh always ample parking in the square, and i've never had to wait more than 5-10 min for my food! service here is always so welcoming, one of my favorites in the area :)

Wowowowow! Hole in the wall but sooooo good! Flavor was absolutely there. Empanada was crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful on the inside. Service was incredible - shoutout to Rosa and the other guy working there. Inside was clean and had plenty of seating. Definitely recommend this place and will for sure be back to try more :)

Found this place on Yelp! Read the reviews and thought I 'd give it a whirl...what a Godsend!!! I was starving, but after the flavorful two skewers of steak chimmi churri , crispy fries, simple salad with a yummy balsamic dressing and a bomb.com spinach-cheese empanada hunger was easily satisfied!!! read more

This place will answer any craving you are having. The Kailua is a must for the savory and don't skip on the desert empanadas. Once you come here it will not be your last time and you'll be telling all your family and friends to check it out. Started on 6/17/2014 Hands down, one of my favorite lunch spots in the west valley, and definitely the best empanadas I've ever had. Spinach and cheese: perfect balance of gooey, savory cheese with the bitter and sweet vegetal flavors of the spinach. Pair with chimichurri. Beef tinga: basically like pulled beef, with amazing marinade. Shredded, juicy, flavorful, tender, just amazing. Pair with chimichurri or chipotle sauce. Cajun sausage: if this is your kind of thing, go for it, but it just doesn't work for me. Not impressed Kailua pork: hawaiian-style pulled pork! Sweet, savory, salty, just absolutely juicy and delicious! Pair with sweet-sour thai sauce. Chicken al pastor: seriously so good. This is the chicken empanada you're looking for. Amazing flavor packed in here, juicy and spiced just right. Pair with chipotle sauce. Signature salad: mixed greens with candied pecans, mango, and goat cheese, with a balsamic vinaigrette with a great creamy texture, and either blackberries or raspberries (depends on what they have on hand). Seriously amazing! I know the base is just your run-of-the-mill salad mix, but the combination that they've concocted here is definitely one of my favorite salads ever! You need this to cut the heaviness of eating all those empanadas. All the refrescos are good, but I highly recommend the guava-ade! After quite some time, I finally narrowed my order down to a science: lunch special w/ beef tinga and kailua pig, an additional order of a chicken al-pastor, the lunch salad upgraded to a signature salad, and the included drink upgraded to a guava-ade. Seriously one of my most favorite work lunches ever right here. But beware the nods afterwards. Seriously the only complaints I could possibly have here is that the parking situation is a cluster***, and the seating can get.. cozy. But both of those things are frankly out of their control, give its small, corner strip-mall location. read more

Best tasting food with a zen lay back ambiance and always great service restaurant is the reason that we have come back every time we are in town. You will not be disappointed with their wide selection of empanadas and if you aren't into empanadas never fear they have skewers with sticky rice that will want you wishing you had more. read more

A true valley gem. Starts off with great, friendly employees. Finishes off with super unique, super delicious empanadas. First timers should just do a good ol lunch combo. Two empanadas and a butt ton of fries. If you know what's good for you, you'll get an inca cola to accompany the tasty meal. read more

Another banger in the valley. We ordered all the beef, pork, and chicken options and none of them disappointed. Prices are reasonable, portions are good, and the atmosphere was chill. Loved all the sauce options too! Will definitely be coming back for my empanadas fix. Hope they expand to the Westside or Downtown! read more

Closes kind of early Friday nite at 9:00. Glad we snuck in before closing. My favorites are the corn, spinach and cheese, Kailua pig and bbq pulled pork. Love the caramel apple for dessert and go early if you want a coconut water in a fresh coconut. They sell out. This place is a thumbs up if you've got the munchies! read more

Amazing! Two #2 combos (chimmichurri steak with 1/2 fries/1/2 salad). One with spinach cheese empanada, one with bacon jalapeño empanada. The meat and fries were great! The salad dressing surprised us, it was so good. We both agreed the spinach cheese empanada was the better out of the two. Next time we'll try Cajun sausage, but still get the spinach/cheese. Super good empanadas, they're prettty big in size compared to other empanadas I have had. They're also stuffed really well . Will definitely come back here when I am in town. Really good empanadas, and great fries! I recommend the chicken or cajun sausage empanadas. All empanadas come with a complimentary dipping sauce and if you get the chance, try their chimichurri sauce. Sooooo good. Empanadas can be a little greasy at times so skip the soda for some hot tea after. read more

Was my first time coming here. Didn't know what to eat in the morning like usual. Was in the area on my way to the gym when I decided to eat something before going on an empty stomach. Looked up food and saw this on my maps. Saw the reviews and thought I'd give it a try. As soon as I came in I saw all the various of types of empanadas they had on the menu which made me smile lol. I Asked the kind lady at the register for some recommendations and ended up getting the al pastor and the kalui pig empanadas (think I spelled it wrong) with some white rice. None the less they were both very delicious especially the al pastor coming from a Mexican background, you know what al pastor taste like and this is definitely up there. Will be coming back soon read more

My absolute favorite casual dining place in the valley! Worth driving a distance too! Everything is fresh and homemade and delicious. I think I've tried everything on the menu and I've never been disappointed. The special, where you get grilled steak with a salad (I always upgrade to the special one with mango) and an empanada is my favorite though. Best of all worlds! read more

Overall, our food was delicious and the drinks were great as this is one of our favorite bars to hit to see bball and baseball games.

Do not get me wrong the food is good and I had met the owner before. The owner is super sweet... But the two workers tonight was rude...I order meals for my family on the phone and came in to pick up my order and paid with my credit card and was about to tip in cash...but when I can hear them announcing to the other worker in spanish that I gave them no tip...it totally change my mind to give them a tip at all...what make them think they can ask for a tip. Here is a tip for the two workers...when someone is paying with there credit card and they write zero on the tip...do not assume they are not going leave you a tip. People give tip in cash instead on adding it on the credit card. And here is a tip for the owner you might want to write your new prices over you old menu. If not, do not leave your old menu out on the register.Also, customer service and friendliness is everything. You might want to have a talk with your workers if you do not want to lose your customers. read more

Came here for dinner, and it was a good pick. It's located inside of the food 4 less parking lot so you have a lot of parking spaces in the plaza. Great vibe inside, they have tv's and the decor inside the restaurant is very calming and cozy environment which is great. Ordered the #1 Island Combo which comes with Grilled Angus Korean style flat iron steak skewers with sticky rice, choice of empanada and house made dipping sauce and a handful of organic field greens with balsamic vinaigrette. Whole meal is very filling and is great for 1 person. The skewers were cooked to medium which was very good and juicy. Sticky Rice was complemented with eel sauce on top. The empanada was great. Full of flavor and very hot. The salad was fresh and the vinaigrette really went well with the meal. Definitely would come back and order this again. This place was wonderful! One of my friends loves Latin American cuisine, and this place did everything to fulfill her expectations. We went on a Monday night, and the place was fairly packed. There is decent seating, so we got a table outside on the grounds that the climate was pleasant. I got the Chicken Al Pastor - - and it was SO tasty. The sauce was incredible - I couldn't taste excessively of spices, however it was truly appetizing and all around adjusted. The chicken were pleasant and firm, and ran superbly with the sauce. Our table requested caramel apple empanadas as an afterthought which were pleasant and caramelized with fresh edges. They were thickly cut and delicate within. My mouth is watering simply thinking about them. The vibe of the eatery was truly awesome as well. It was an cool place, the service was awesome, and the value was far and away superior. They have really good food. Johnny Pacific is a small place. Expect no more than half a dozen tables, but don't let that deter you. Most people order to go, and with reason. Johnny Pacific honestly has some of the best empanadas in Los Angeles. I am really partial to the beef tinga empanada, though I have also tried the bbq pulled pork and chicken empanadas as well. Their signature sauces are pretty good also. If you are throwing a party, then you can't go wrong with ordering a big assortment of empanadas from Johnny Pacific. Obviously, they are very good with take out orders. Expect good, friendly service. I have read some of the positive and not so positive reviews, and I guess that everyone has different expectations. Love this place. First time I went I was a little tentative, especially when I drove up and it's in a not so nice strip mall. But go inside and it's cute and clean. Kind of reminds me of being down at the beach. Their Chimichurri sauce is so good. I always get the chicken skewers and ask them to make it with the Chimichurri instead of the peanut sauce. I do like the peanut sauce too but I could take a bath in the chimichurri sauce it's so delicious. It comes with a great, fresh salad with a lovely balsamic vinagarete and rice. I'm not an empanada girl, but my friend had a selection of the desert empanada's and they were wonderful. And last but certainly not least, they are really nice guys. Adding this place to my list of great burger spots! I had the bandito burger and a side of wild wild mac & cheese. It didn't make sense how good the food was! The burger which is the "smaller" version of the outlaw burger is huge! They have this rule that you're not supposed to cut your burger in half but there was no way I was gonna be able to handle it & wrap my mouth around it at the same time so cut it half I did. The mac & cheese was amazing! As a mac & cheese lover it doesn't get much better than this. Ohhhhh-M-Geeee!!! Bacon, onions, mushrooms & gooey cheese...I was in mac heaven! I also had their peach green tea which was delish & refillable! I'm from out of the area but this little place was recommended to me. When I pulled up, I was having second thoughts about the place because of the little strip mall it was in, but glad I went in. I had a combo that was recommended to me that came with skewer, fries, salad and an empenada. I picked the bacon jalapeno because who could resist that? The meal was excellent, everything cooked perfect, and the salad came with a delicious vinaigrette that I couldn't get enough of. The spot is a little cozy so I recommend getting food to go. The empanadas are pretty darn tasty. Wide variety of meats to chose from. Super quick in making and serving the orders. I'm definitely a fan of their Old Bay seasoned fries for a couple of bucks. Hits the spot. Customer service is good, but not great. The only major down side (and hence the reason for the loss of a star), is the poor availability of parking. We (the family & extended family and friends) LOVE this place and the food. The plates are awesome and are always very flavorful and high quality. We have tried every empanada and plate and nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is subpar. John and the staff work tirelessly to make sure everything, including all the sauces, are a high caliber. The best empanadas! Unfortunately at a very high price!. I have eaten there several times and got very sick twice (food poison). The first time I was not 100% sure it was from there, but was not able to go back for at least one or two years. The thought of eating the empanadas made me sick. I went back a few times. I've been eating at Johnny Pacifics for years!!! They have the best empanadas I've ever had. Johnny actually works behind the counter sometimes and is extremely friendly. His dishes, if I recall, were inspired from his days of travel - he literally lives off empanadas. My favorite is the El pastor always with the basil Aïoli dipping sauce. Their empanadas are other worldly, even the dessert variants are amazing. The chimichuri sauce is amazing and works with the majority of the protein based empanadas. My only wish is that the seating area was a bit larger to allow for larger parties. I realize they're limited with the space they have and made it the best it could be. Been wanting to try this place for a while now based on the sheer number of positive reviews. I can't recall ever having had an empanada in the past but they sounded pretty good. I tried a variety of the different empanadas and all were fairly tasty. That being said, I don't think I'll ever go back to this place simply because I didn't become an empanada fan.
