We always love their house salad with the vinaigrette dressing. It is very fresh tasting and is one of our favorites. We enjoy the Italian nachos especially with extra peppers added. Their lasagna is quite good we also love their jalapeño garlic tilapia and the spicy shrimp and chicken. It is chain food and isn't like you'd get from a mom-n-pop type of restaurant. I stood at the reception desk for about 5 minutes before I was acknowledged. There appeared to be only two wait staff and one cook working. I ordered food for carryout. My pizza had one slice of jalapeno and one piece of pineapple per slice for a $20+ small pizza. The Caesar salad on the menu listed at least six ingredients but the one that I received had only lettuce, cheese, croutons, and dressing, and cost $13.95. Prices are very high throughout the menu and the value is poor. Just go somewhere else, like a local pizza place or Italian restaurant. read more

The Italian Nachos came out burnt, very little sauce, and 2 pieces of chicken. waited almost 20 minutes for the rest of our food to arrive - 4 burgers from the Wednesday deal section. The buns came out burnt and hard as a rock. I felt so bad for the poor waitress. She was a rockstar. Overheard another table waiting to speak to a manager. The manager never went over to them. I worked for many years as an executive chef where I worked my way up from a line cook to traveling for work to help fix struggling locations within the group I worked for. I dine at good restaurants to excellent 3 star Michelin restaurants when I travel. I come home to Idaho Falls and I choose not to critic the restaurants here because they are what they are. They aren't trying to be more. But tonight I really have to let it go. My mother and I went to Johnny Carino's as she'd gotten a free meal baggie in the post a while back and kept wanting to give it a try as neither of us had been there in years and I'd only ever been once. It started out fine enough and though the food seemed to take an extraordinary amount of time to get to us. we were patient, recognizing the young man masquerading as our server was clearly new and not well trained if trained at all and we had empathy for him. Eventually we did feel the need to attract someones attention to get a glass of water. a good half hour into our wait the young man came back to our table and said they were out of the lasagna (part of the bag special) and would I like something else. I said just a simple pasta and marinara would be fine to which he agreed and went to tell the kitchen. He came back another 15 minutes later so ask if chicken parm would be an agreeable substitute to which I agreed. several minutes later he came back with my dish and said they had lasagna after all. (???) At the time I ordered the bag special my mother had ordered a plate of the Italian nachos with both chicken and sausage on it. after more than an hour and me having finally received my order she had not received hers. when we were finally able to get someone's attention, not the young man's who though kept scanning the room, didn't seem to be able to notice us trying to get his attention, we brought the issue to their attention. they looked for the order and couldn't find it and eventually realized that perhaps they should just get it fired. Another 15-20 minutes before it came out with very little chicken, very little sausage and very little sauce. When service and food are this bad, I recognize this isn't an issue with staff, either the servers or the kitchen. This is a management issue. A restaurant whether good or bad has a culture and that culture begins at the top and cascades down. Every quality restaurant has a present and attentive general manager that is there during service. (there are none at this location, not sure where they would be). It felt as if the top management knows the days here in Idaho Falls are numbered and they perhaps show up just long enough to collect a paycheck until this place closes and they are forced to have to look for their next job. When using a coupon or gift card since I am accustomed to spending generously on tips I will tip on what a full meal for 2 would be plus what drinks would have cost if we were drinking and additional incidentals. the meal all together cost a measly $20.00 and I was more than prepared to tip $25 even with the horrendous service and food. But when after all of that I have to hunt someone down just to get a bill when it has been clear for the past 15 minutes that we would just like to leave it becomes nothing. And I did write on the charge strip, "worst service and food ever". A place this badly managed needs to be closed asap. And for those of you that thing I am petitioning for the people that work here to be out of the job that pays their bills; seriously, did you thing working in a horrible place is their only option? go get jobs a quality places that will train you properly and give you the opportunities to succeed because this isn't the place anyone should want to work. read more

I was running errands and decided to have a bite to eat. So since I've never enjoyed the cuisine at Johnny Carino's I thought I'd give it a try. It was average. I ordered the beef medium rare and it came medium. That was alright, but it could have been better. The fries were typical fries. The house wine was pleasant. As to the service, I have no complaints. Came here once and the experience was bad enough I'd never return. The restaurant was dirty. Floor covered in food and crumbs/trash. None of the food was very good. The nail in the coffin was that one of the diners in our party kindly ordered extra capers in her pasta dish and it came out DROWNING in capers... completely inedible. It was as though an entire jar of capers -juices and all- were just dumped in her bowl. We couldn't tell if it was out of malice or incompetence. What a Fantastic meal and service my friend and I received the other Sunday afternoon for Lunch!! Clean atmosphere and wonderful food. I had the lasagna, Fettuccini, Alfredo and Chicken Parmigiana. I have been a big fan of this restaurant since they opened. And this is the first time I can honestly give less than 5 star review. I have been gone from Idaho Falls for 3 years, and I don't know what happened to this restaurant while I was gone. Our server was fantastic, it is the food I have an issue with. My go-to meal is the eggplant parmesan, and it is usually some of the best I get away from home. This time however the eggplant was quite tough and very stringy. They have also changed their marinara sauce to something that is much closer to an arrabiata, which means it is quite spicy. There are times when I am in the mood for some heat, but this time I just wanted their regular marinara sauce and was very disappointed when it was not the sauce I remembered. My waitress did her best to help me, by bringing me some of their other sauce to mix in. Johnny's used to be a very consistent restaurant, but I was concerned to see how empty they were this evening, especially after several people had told me they had made some not so positive changes. Hopefully management figures out that not everyone enjoys super spicy marinara sauce and brings back the one that they had before. I also had an Italian sangria, and if you are a drinker, you really need to get one of these. They are super flavorful and the portion size is quite good for the price. I will be returning to Idaho Falls in a little while, and intend to eat there again. I hope I can update this review to reflect a higher level of food quality. read more

It is really sad that I like their food because their service is so bad. Ordered a to go in. They told me 15 to 20 minutes. It was an hour later and they still hadn't got things figured out. Told them just give me my money back and they said they can't do that. Manager actually wanted to argue with me that it was only 54 minutes rather than the 65 minutes I said. I said don't tell me it's 15 and think I'll be happy even at 54. Service is bad everywhere. I know that because people don't want to come to work but they have several people there and they just keep walking by rather than stop to ask if they could help. Very pathetic management and employees in my opinion, we ate there two weeks ago and the restaurant was not even half full and it still took us over an hour to be seated in another hour to get food. Called ahead and as soon as I walked in, the server handed me some sauce and said (here you go) and walked away. This time I asked for a manager.
