John was amazing. My recessed lights turned off after I swapped some outlets out. I thought I blew something out. John spent 30 minutes on the phone with me trying to help me solve my problem so he would not need to come by and charge me. I took his advice and did what I thought was right and sent him pictures and he said I was doing everything wrong. He came by between a project around 6 pm at night. He spent an hour teaching me how to replace outlets and switches and not electrocute myself in the process. Then he went around my house trying to solve my recess light problem. Took awhile and ended up finding out it was a completely different outlet that I installed wrong that caused it. He also took a look at my circuit breaker box to make sure my house was rewired correctly. His service was top notch and I was very thankful he took the time to teach me how to do things. Charged me $140 for the hour he came, which is really reasonable after I called around to different people. Well worth it to solve my problem and get some much needed knowledge. read more

John helped me out with a commercial job. I had a 3PH motor which I couldn't get rotating for the life of me. Turns out he found an issue with my breaker and I was missing a leg. I had pretty much given up at that point and John was as perceptive as ever. He said I could take care of it from there with a simple breaker swap to save me some money. Swapped in my breaker replacement, lo and behold motor is spinning strong. Didn't go out of his way to replacing things like other companies do. Really humble and smart guy, enjoyed our conversations. Thanks again John, Spencer read more

John is very knowledgeable, thorough and fair! He did a great job updating the electrical in our home and was incredibly easy to work with. We were overwhelmed by the big project and he broke our options down for us in laymen's terms and put our minds at ease. Highly recommend him for your next project! read more

Of 8 companies I inquired, only 1 took the initiative to give me a call. That was John Watson Electrician. What great timing! He called me when I was at my job site troubleshooting power limitations for seasonal lighting on a large property. He was able to assess the situation and come up with solutions from photos I sent. John found that in order to run enough uninterrupted power, the house would need a dedicated breaker and circuit for the outlets on the outside of the house. Because the house has no crawlspace, it wouldn't be easy to route a new circuit to the other side of the house. He suggested a few workarounds. Although I haven't decided yet, I now have some ideas I can pitch to my client once they are ready to upgrade their house to really make their holidays shine! read more

John was GREAT! We had a dead outlet for quite some time, but with baby about to walk all over this place, we knew we needed to fix the outlets soon so..well, so our baby didn't get zapped. John told us he would be here at 4:30 and showed up right on time. Helping hubby take down the large TV to look, fixed that dead outlet in no time and fir a very reasonable price. He was super sweet to our baby(he has some grandkids), our two pups who were crazy interested in him (he has a few dogs), and even teased me for seeing me play CandyCrush (shut it - don't you judge me!) And texted his daughter to see what level she was on. Lol. So...all in all....fast, affordable service with a smile. read more

A few months ago, a few of the exterior lights and outlets in the back of my building went out. Since this happened shortly after I had my building repiped and was confined to the back of the building, I thought it might have been something the plumbers did. John came out with his assistant and fixed everything in a couple of hours and sent me an invoice electronically promptly. He was courteous on the phone and answered all my questions. Additionally, I was planning on some renovations in the future and had questions about my electrical needs and he was kind enough to give me his opinion and advice on that for no charge. (Obviously, if I had asked him for a full electrical schema, that would not have been free.) At the time, he charged $150/hr because it's him + a helper and he charges by the hour (no minimum). But if he doesn't need the helper, then he won't charge for him. [$150/hr sounds steep, but other places charge $75/hr for one person + travel, so this is pretty typical. Give him a call to verify rates as they may have changed since then.] You'll see more related reviews about him at Michael Sizer's Yelp page. http://www.yelp.com/biz/michael-sizer-sierra-madre read more

John is extremely transparent and communicative about general information, quotes and the project scope. He was patient and very friendly to talk to. He breaks down the information in a way that is accessible for someone that isn't as familiar with electrical jargon. Give him a call! read more

My review is based on a phone call and I do not know John Personally. I originally called john after an "Electrician"(vulture) wanted to charge me a lot of money. This man was in my house for 5 mins before wanting to charge me $400 to search for the origin of my electrical issue which I'm sure he had some idea where it started. I said no thank you, searched online and found John. I called him and to my surprise, he was trying to help me trouble shoot on the phone. I had read the reviews on yelp and thought he probably knows these people...until I experienced the same situation lol. He attempted to help me over the phone after telling him about my experience with the "other guy". Anyway he stayed on the phone with me for about 45 mins, this is unheard of these days. He got me started on my project but I still had to bring in a friend from work to continue trouble shooting. He didn't have the parts but left it easy enough for me to finish the job. I finished the job by installing two GFI outlets. The point of my review, John is a rare find these days. He seems to really love his craft, cares about his customers and makes sure they are satisfied with the end result. I will use or recommend him for future electrical issues. UPDATE 2017- Recently I had to call Mr. Watson for another electrical issue. He came out, did some trouble shooting and repaired my electrical problem. While he was trouble shooting, he explained his method to detect the origin of the problem and along the way he also educated me on electrical basics. My issue was a circuit breaker so he switched it out and so far so good. read more

John installed a new outlet for me and converted the voltage on another outlet for an oven. He was very professional and got things done quickly. He gave me a fair estimate for the work, but ended up charging me less because he was able to get it done faster than expected. I was very impressed all around, and would definitely call him again the next time I need an electrician! read more

I called on Saturday and John picked up the phone almost immediately. He was able to troubleshoot my circuit breaker problem over the phone. And guess what! He walked me through and fixed my problem without him coming over to my house. Best of all he did not charge me for it but did it out of good service and honesty. He is a rare breed in the industry. I have never had an experience with such an honest and non-greedy technician in my whole life until now. Others would just asked for the problem I had and showed up. Then they charged me just for showing up plus any additional work performed. read more

I had a small emergency about 2 weeks ago and I called John at 9pm to see if he'd be available to come over and fix the problem. He's just honest and great. read more

We had a short that affected our alarm. We called John around 6 pm. He wasn't able to come, so Chris came instead. He was on his way home after his last job and turned around to come help us. He was incredibly helpful, got things working and offered to complete the job next week to make sure it is all done right. We'll use him for all our future jobs. read more

As I was enjoying a morning cup of coffee (7:45am) looking out backyard while a light rain was coming down, I noticed electrical wireline connecting garage to house was sparking and smoke was emitting from wire. When I went outside to cut branch that was close to make contact with wire, exposed wire popped and more sparks came out. I freaked! So now that I've set up scenario.... called John Watson and he was very professional and accommodating. I sent him a pic of wire smoking. Fortunately for me he said he would be able to come out same day/afternoon. He originally gave me around 2:30 appointment window. Then he texted me later that morning and was able to come earlier. John kept me informed of his schedule and was prompt in keeping appointment. I was given hourly rate and was so relieved to get issue resolved on same day. In these days it is so hard to find contractors, electricians, repair people who take pride in their professionalism especially in keeping commitments. I rate John Watson 5 Star for customer service and ability to get the job done. read more

John came right out and troubleshooted 2 problem outlets for us. He figured the problem out quickly and fixed it. He and his assistant were kind and polite and fixed our outlets. He pointed us in the right direction to resolve an issue we were having with our ceiling fans. I would definitely call him again for any future electrical needs. read more

John picked up the phone late on a weekday evening and talked me through the steps to turn back on my power after my main breaker tripped. He inspected pictures I texted him and told me what to look for (and smell for) to determine if there were any problems. After switching the power back on, he gave me a list of things to pay attention to so I can figure out if something more serious is wrong. And he did all of that for free! Won't hesitate to give him a call if I need some serious electrical work done. Very friendly and humorous, too. read more

Wow. Came home today -- half my home was out of power. Looked on Yelp and called John. Left a message. I thought it would cost me a bundle. Within 45 minutes he returned my call. Patiently stayed with me on the phone for about 30 minutes as he talked me through a diagnosis: It was probably a power company issue, he said. I tried to pay John for his time but he would have none of it. Put in a call with the Edison number that John gave me. They put in a priority service call. Within a few hours, about 9pm, an Edison service man came and fixed it. All for free. Make no mistake, I will call John next time I need an electrician. In fact I'm thinking up a few upgrade jobs for him to do! Wow. read more

John was able to help me with my garage losing power. He called back right away and was able to quickly figure out what was wrong. Lucky to have found John here on Yelp. Gave him a call one day after a couple outlets were not working. We have a tank less water heater and didn't have hot water! My husband and father attempted to fix the problem with no luck. When I called John he answered right away and tried to walk me through some possible fixes over the phone! For free! Even had me send him some pictures of the electrical box to see if he would help over the phone. He ended up coming to my house and fixed the problem! A trustworthy and personable guy. Going to use his services to install a car charging station at our home soon! Highly recommend read more

John Watson was fantastic. Thank you John. read more

I just called him because half of our outlets all of a sudden went out. Instead of insisting on coming out to look at the problem, he said, "Hey send some photos, maybe we can fix it over the phone." UPDATE: I called John back and had him give us a bid on a lot more work because obviously I was so happy with him! Even though his bid came in REALLY high, we liked him and were just going to let him do the work anyway. We agreed to his bid and then had to wait for a bit in order to come up with the money to do the agreed upon work, which was fine with him because he said he suddenly got really busy. When we were ready to set up a start date, both my husband and myself emailed him several times to get the project going, and we NEVER heard back. It was so strange! We kept trying to reach him, and asking whether we had done something wrong, etc., but just no response. It was very weird. He had been over a couple of times with his guys to make sure to give us a fair bid, but then suddenly just disappeared. He just never ever responded to us ever again! We ended up finding another electrician, that we have been working with since then (who actually did a great job for 1/2 the price! ). So sad! Was looking forward to working with him again, but I guess we were just meant to be ships passing in the night..... read more

It's wonderful that others had a great experience with this guy. Me, not so much. I called on Friday around 4:30, left a message saying I wanted an estimate for a rewiring job for a low-amp wire from my home to my AC. Based on another estimate I already had, this was not going to be inexpensive so I thought more than one estimate was appropriate. As of Tuesday night, this guy has still not called me back -- nothing, nada, zip, zilch -- not even to say "Oh, I'm too busy; call someone else." I live in Pasadena, so I'm not out of his way. What's the story? If you're out of town or won't be returning calls, say so on your outgoing message. But days later to have no response of any kind is not okay. read more

During the last couple of months, our home had some power issues in both our restrooms and the Master Bedroom. John was able to analyze and diagnosis the problem. It was quite difficult to find. Well I always turn to Yelp and I thought the feedback on John as a local electrician sounded great. We set an appt for 5pm and he didn't show until 6:10. Granted he called and let me know he would be late but it still was annoying as I had left work early. A month later, called him again to install a light in the bathroom. He said he had an 8:30am appt so he would be at my house at 9:30 to 10:00. When he didn't show up, I left a message for him at 10:30 and 11:30 but a day later he still hasn't shown up or even bothered to return my calls. So he might do great work, I wouldn't know but he would have to actually show up to find that out. Perhaps he should give a couple hour windows since he can't make it on time. Not calling back though is unprofessional. read more

Can't vouch for the service but I do want to give a positive review as to the integrity of the business. As noted by other yelpers the business is now runned by John Watson. After I told him my problem, he felt that he may be a waste of time and cost since he didn't believe I was what he was looking for (he's an electrician - I needed an AC/Heating technician). So yeah to honesty and not wasting my time or money. read more

John Watson is a fine electrician who is thorough and thoughtful. His crew are great at what they do and love doing it. They are all a pleasure to work with. I hired John to upgrade the electrical box on my old house (1905) which was a task in and of it self, but working under the scrutiny of the ever watchful and picky eye of the city inspector he was thrown several curve balls which he handled effortlessly. The first day I met John he was just giving a general look at my house to see if an upgrade was necessary (which he did not charge me for) and he was there when my appliances arrived. Without being asked he joined in and helped me remove a frame to make way for the fridge. The SEARS guys just stood there and watched as John physically helped me solve the problem! I will always be indebted to him for this! What a nice guy! read more

The lovely previous inhabitants of my place left a lot of bootleg electrical work. Who decides to DIY with electrical wiring? Bad idea. I was left to fix this mess with a two week deadline. I didn't have time to get a bunch of quotes but I think John's rate was competitive. He came first to give me an estimate and get a sense of the work then returned on a Saturday to perform the work with his assistant. He took out all the illegal wiring and brought everything up to Code on the main electrical panel. He was very polite and explained all the work. He even found some dangerous wiring that the initial home inspector missed. The City inspector passed all the work and now won't be fining me for all the wacky wiring. Thanks John! read more

I was looking for an electrician to help me solve a mysterious electrical problem with my pool pump. I saw the great things people had to say about John, so I gave him a call. I'm sure John is a great electrician, but, more importantly, he's a solid guy with integrity beyond measure. John spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me to troubleshoot my problem. He could have (and most others would have) said he couldn't diagnose my problem without being on site, but John took the time to diagnose the problem and let me know that him coming out to see the pump (and charging me for it) wasn't going to change the fact that I likely needed a new pump. He could have charged me for a service call but didn't. He could have dismissed me but didn't. It was like talking to a friend who happens to be an electrician! He'll definitely be my first call next time I need an electrician. read more

What a great person! I called because I have a circuit breaker that keeps tripping. I called John because my power was flickering. He came to the rescue within a few hours and swiftly deduced that the problem was most likely with the power company. He called them on my behalf and amazingly they showed up while we were still chatting. John explained the situation to the employee who checked out a few of the connections. The following morning the power co tested the line and confirmed the power was indeed flickering outside my home within their lines. After they replaced/tightened several connections the problem was resolved. John refused to accept any payment for his service call -- or reward for his staring role in fixing the problem. I will definitely call him again if the need for an electrician should arise! read more

Our power went out on the 2nd floor and basement of our 1924 home. Mr. Watson took the time to ask a lot of questions over the phone. He is professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. He arrived on time for our appointment and was able to locate and fix the problem efficiently. While he was here he was also able to fix a motion-detector light that has been broken for months and give us an estimate for a future remodel. His prices are very reasonable. This was our first experience with an electrician and it was a very positive one. We will definitely call Mr. Watson for our future electrical needs. read more
