Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a person who is more irresponsible - or more of an incompetent jerk - than "Dr" John Wallace. I had been going to CORE for three years, and with the exception of another incompetent and rude spine specialist (Jessica Hepburn), I have pretty much been more than satisfied with the quality of care -that is, until I met John Wallace... I am a sickly person - so much so, that I take my 78-year-old mother to appointments with me in case I fall, or worse. My mother was appalled by the behavior of this doctor, and she has quadruple the patience that I have. I am an Addiction Psychologist, so I diagnose conditions and afflictions for a living. John Wallace is the textbook definition of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I went to see him for a number of pain locales, first and foremost being degenerative arthritis in the lower back. John Wallace refused to listen to me, and he proceeded to tell ME how I felt and how severe my symptoms are and are not (!). He asked me if the pain was radiating down and throughout the legs, and when I told him yes ... that is my primary concern ... he glossed over everything I had just told him and proceeded to tell ME that I don't really have pain there... When he saw the exposed nerves in the MRIs of my neck and lower back, he claimed that IF - and only IF - the pain was radiating, then he might suggest surgery. BUT, since (he argued, laughably) I do not really experience pain there, there's no need to treat me for any type of affliction, as it's some form of fiction that I need to get over, quit lying about and stop wasting his time with. So here's to say: John Wallace - I apologize for wasting your time, but fear not - I will NEVER return to see you again, and I will share this disastrous experience with every friend, family member and stranger. We, as patients, wouldn't want to be the cause of your "burnout". The goal here is ensure you have as few patients as it is possible, so that more innocent folks are not subjected to your abusive behavior. read more

It was horrible I could sense after my first visit where he was heading. This review will probably land in the not viewed pile. First, he is overworked by his own choice 75-80 hours a week he said. No human should work like that Your body cannot take that kind of punishment. That was good news because I knew that he was not going to put needles in my back, he is bound to make a mistake with someone if he already has not. Second, I do not know how many of the bad reviews are from people of color, but he talked to me in the most degrading way, he talked to me like I was trash. There is only one race the human race! Worst doctor to go see for pain. My mom has been going to him for over a year and this doctor doesn't listen to the patients concerns. This pain doctor straight out called my mom a drug attic only when my mom takes 2 pills a day. I will be next filing a complaint with the state against this doctor. If I could give one star I would give negative ~10!!! Dr. Wallace (whose part of CORE PAIN MANAGEMENT) has the bedside manners of a chronically ill diseased, blind alley cat!!! Upon going to see Dr. Wallace in the office (at CORE Institute) Dr. Wallace was 45 minz late seeing me! Despite the fact that if I was more than 15 minutes late I would have to reschedule my appointment ‍... Anywho once I finally got back to see Dr. Wallace he made it clear that despite the fact that I was a victim of gun violence which left me completely paralyzed from the waist down and the fact that the bullet was still lodged in my spinal cord at T3/T4, as well as 4 bulging disc right below that he should lower my pain meds from oxy 15mgz to 5mgz!!! 1st time ever meeting me and I was referred to him by his BF who also works for CORE... So he had all the records that showed the injuries nd how long I had been on 15z before I seen him ( literally for 7 years)!! After begging him not to lower my dose for an hour nd stroking his ego he finally agreed ‍... I literally ran as fast as I could from CORE INSTITUTE!!! I NVR went bk again and found an awesome pain clinic that didn't treat me like an addict , but a REAL HUMAN BEING!!! So please take my word for it DO NOT GO TO CORE INSTITUTE or DR. The first time I met with Dr. Wallace, he was professional and compassionate. He was timely and I never once felt rushed. He listened to my concerns and understood my issues. After seeing him 1 time I was waiting to get an injection in my back the scheduler for him is out of Michigan never returned phone calls, it was canceled because it didn't get approved, shocker it was never submitted to the insurance for approval so it was rescheduled for a month later same thing happened again. No one from the Michigan team ever returned any calls even supervisors. How does anyone get any procedures done with service like this. read more

He does a great job with procedures, awful in the clinic. Doesn't review your chart before entering the room and wants to think that everyone who sees him fits into the same box-this is not true if you have an uncommon complication following a surgery. Does not respond to messages in the portal about a few complications from the epidural he did until you see him in the clinic. Orders an MRI after I told him I was not going to do that because it didn't make sense and I didn't have symptoms anymore. This just wastes everyone's time and shows how he doesn't listen to his patients. As a healthcare worker myself, I can tell you there are much better doctors who will actually listen to their patients and not treat them like they are at a Pain Management Mill. read more

Dr. Wallace is quite possibly the most rude and misinformed Pain Management Specialist I've ever visited. Aside from being more than an hour late on my first visit, he had not even glanced at my medical records that were sent over to his office from my prior provider aside from noticing the dosages of medications I was on. He was unfamiliar with my medical condition (Hemophilia) and insistent that a person with that condition would not traditionally need pain management. Aside from being completely asinine, his opinion was completely contrary to literally every other medical professional I've ever spoken with. Dr. Wallace was overtly aggressive from the second he walked in the room. Before he asked me a single question he warned me that if I ever lied to him or "messed up" he would ensure that I would never be prescribed medications from anyone else ever again in the state of Arizona. This warning, mind you, was provided without even so much as a word discussed regarding my medical condition. This approach had the dual effect of making me feel as though I was somehow in the wrong for seeking pain management and also viewed as a potential criminal by Dr. Wallace. Mind you, he was apt to repeat "it's nothing personal, I'm sure you're a nice guy" more than 10 times in the 9 minute diatribe. After being told my medical condition (which has led to more than 9 different operations, including 2 ankle fusions, 3 major surgeries to my elbows and a joint replacement in my wrist) I asked Dr. Wallace, "What then, would you recommend?" When I asked the question, Dr. Wallace balked and backtracked saying "Well, you're grandfathered in so I guess we could write these prescriptions for you..." I had to ask him the same question 4 separate times, each time with him somehow dodging the answer until he finally suggested that his treatment suggestion for someone with my diagnosis (one that he hadn't even been bothered to review the x-rays his office had taken 2 weeks prior) would be best treated by buprenorphine, a medication most commonly used to help opioid dependent patients get off of opioids. The issue was this wasn't his actual assessment. This was his way of telling me I shouldn't be able to be on opioid pain management. Which, again, I might have not been offended by, had he even bothered to look at my file even once. I know he didn't because he asked me questions he would've known the answers to by simply looking at my x-rays for even a moment. read more

Dr. Wallace was extremely helpful. He took the time to talk, asked many questions, and I felt he was genuinely concerned about my issue. Most medical visits you feel like the doctor is in a rush to get out as soon as possible. He even walked over to the reception desk with me to make sure they sent out the proper referral for the imaging that I needed and gave me the direct number to his staff in case there were any issues. I was diagnosed with an L5 compression fracture that occurred, more than likely, due to a car accident in April 2019. When I was told it was inoperable, the only choice I had was to either live with the pain, managed with pain killers, which I do not take, or to go to Dr. John Wallace to see if he could manage the pain via nerve ablation. The 2 pre-ablation trials went well and I was hoping that the ablation would ease my back pain. So far, I have had 1 ablation and go back for the other side in another 1-1/2 weeks. I definitely feel a difference and not is as much pain. Dr. Wallace and his team at CORE were excellent in making sure I was fully informed of the process and was comfortable throughout the process. I would recommend Dr. John Wallace to anyone who may be questioning whether they should consider a nerve ablation as a step to a more normal life. Thank you Dr. Wallace! read more
