Dr. Bruns retired a few years ago -- in 2022, I believe. I cannot recommend the office of Jiao Periodontics that took over his clients. My periodontist I've been going to for years retired (Dr. Kim Martin) who was absolutely the best. That really sucked. He referred all his patients to a terrible place (see my review for Lacrampe). I went there once and that was that. I researched more and found Dr. Bruns. I started there and from the getgo it was much better. First off you're always sittig down at the time they tell you. You don't wait for 45-50 minutes. The doctor is great and doesn't try to rip you off. There's no procedures that you don't need. They don't sit you down at the end of the year and try to get all of your insurance money for the next year (as it reboots, like some dentists do - Hello Dr. Zarekari). Just what you need - boom - you're done. I've had some procedures done over the last couple years and everything has been great. I don't dread coming here like I've done with other places. The staff is very nice and also very Covid-conscious which is nice. Definitely happy with this place. read more

I have a phobia attending dentists and when I went to him he met my needs I was satisfied with his work, he works quickly and makes sure you are not in pain. Overdue review of my treatment from Dr. Bruns' office and staff. I initially was referred over from my dentist in January for a February consultation with Dr. Bruns. He provided me with the correct dental diagnosis and informed me that I would require scaling and a deep root cleaning. Prior to leaving his office, I met with the Office Manager of whom coordinates the appointments. She said that unless I can reach the office at Walnut Creek by 8AM, then I couldn't have my first appointment for a cleaning until April 5. I agreed to this appointment and long duration despite the fact that I was only going to have 1 out of 4 quadrants cleaned, therefore, I would need to return 2 more times in order to just have my deep root cleaning completed. Nevertheless, I returned on April 5 to have 1 quadrant cleaned and then met with the office manager, only to be told that the next open appointment would not be until May 13 for the second quadrant to be cleaned and May 27 for the third and fourth quadrant to be cleaned. This seemed like an extensive amount of wait time since when I initially came in for a consultation on February 25 with Dr. Bruns. Suffice it to say, I agreed to it. Fast forward to May 11, I received a call from Toni informing me that both appointments need to be canceled in May because Dr. Bruns won't be in the office. Rather than offer me other days in May to come into the office to have the 3 other quadrants of my mouth cleaned, Toni tells me that unless I can come in on a Monday at 8AM to Walnut Creek from Fairfield to have 1 quadrant done, then I would be placed on the regular wait list instead of a priority list for their malfeasance. Needless to say, I begrudgingly agreed to the list, yet, was upset that their office canceled both appointments. Just a few weeks later in June, I moved to a different state and forgot to notify Dr. Bruns office, yet, even up to today, I never received a call back from their office and Toni about a continuation of the cleaning of my three other quadrants. As a result, when I moved to a different state, I had to purchase new dental insurance and start all over in June with regards to finding a dentist and a periodontist to take care of my teeth and cleaning which has been VERY time consuming and expensive, since, Dr. Bruns' had 4 full months to complete the cleaning. Since Dr. Bruns' office couldn't perform a deep root cleaning within 4 months, I would hate to have this office take care of more serious dental matters. Go visit any other Dentist's office for any work that you need done since they are unprofessional and genuinely don't care about you or having somewhat basic dental tasks completed. read more

More like 10 STARS, what a CLASS ACT! After getting 5 completely different treatment plans from 5 different doctors finally I found an HONEST DOCTOR & one that does EXCELLENT WORK. Make darn sure they tell you what they are going to charge you. I went to see him after a procedure so he could see how the gums had healed. He checked and said he said great. He said I should get a cleaning. I left with an appointment for the cleaning to be done. I was never told of any bill for that matter until left and they tried setting up another. My answer was no thank you and why was getting a bill. My insurance company covers free cleanings. Why would pay them? Their billing office is atrocious. As far as getting insurance companies to approve certain things by using particular billing codes they are good. I have to give them that. read more

total rip off!!! I went there because my dentist referred me. I came in, they took my referral papers and insurance info, then took x-rays and then the doc came in for a 2 minute consult. After, I walk out and they're charging me $120, saying my insurance was just a discount plan and wouldn't cover anything! ????? I was completely perplexed! Why not mention it before doing the x-rays and consult???? Very sneaky!! I called my insurance, they said to get the billing codes, I did and guess what - my insurance does cover it!!!! I called back four times until I finally got to talk to the person responsible and then another 2 days until she had time to call my insurance (really??).Totally rude!! I called Dr. Bruns office to schedule a consultation appointment for some dental implants recently. His website advertised that his consultations were free, but when I called his office the first thing they asked for was my insurance information. Since I used all of my benefits for this calendar year due to some fillings that I had put in back in January my coverage was maxed out and his receptionist informed that I would have to pay $160 for a consultation appointment!!! I have never had to pay for a consultation before with any other dentist ever. I am glad she told me this though because I found another oral surgeon who gladly did my consultation for free and now he is getting my business instead of Dr. Bruns!!! read more

After many years of pain with my dentures and numerous frequent trips to my dentist for adjustments, I went to Dr. Bruns for a second opinion. On my first visit he found a far better solution than my dentist ever offered. After following the advise of Dr. Bruns, I am now free of pain and my teeth look great. I even ate corn on the cob for the first time in years. I had forgotten what it was like to enjoy the simple joys in life. For the discouraging yelpers out there, know you insurance benefits and don't blame the dentist when your group tries to pull a fast one on you. Some insurance groups do everything they can to keep their last dime. Instead of spending time bashing a good dentist perhaps you should look for better benefits. This group is not a free clinic. Very Knowledgeable Doctor Choosing the right dentist for this type of work is very important, and I did my research and so should you. I can say that I am very happy with the work Dr. Bruns performed, I had a number of questions before starting, and he and his excellent staff were very thorough and clear on their answers. I see in other reviews that many people may not completely understand their responsibilities in these types of procedures- take your time and do some research. I asked a lot of questions, and did everything recommended for a successful treatment. I can now say the "work" is better than original in look and feel. I am sick of this dentist!!!!! We will now be looking for another. This was the last straw!!! They have major billing issues. Not sure if they are billing issues or acts of FRAUD. My husband has been going to John Bruns for awhile and they always tell us our dental coverage doesn't cover the charges! Or another time they said our coverage was rejected but they were not sending in the right information in to be paid. Then to top everything off- they never send us a bill for $2.13 and now they are trying to claim Over Due balance of $33!!! This is ridiculous! No stars for this one! I would never refer this dentist to anyone. He was so arrogant and unprofessional that his staff apologized for his behavior. Staff tell you there will not be a charge, then bill you for the very same item. They billed my insurance company twice for a consult that was never a consult. I believe they do this as most people will never return after the initial revealing bad visit. Staff did not initially send me an invoice, then I received an invoice that included a late fee. Excellent doctor. I had my first oral surgery here with dr Bruns and everything was 1st class. Doctor bruns is very good at what he does. I did not feel a bit of pain during the procedure. He was careful to minimise my out of pocket expense by doing work according to the timing of my insurance..he even called on his own time later on the evening to make sure I was doing ok with my recovery. read more

I had gum grafting yesterday 7/13/12 and had the best experience! They offered nitrous oxide for relaxation and I decided to try it since I would be awake for the procedure. The nitrous oxide not only made me relax, I laughed throughout the entire procedure! The staff was wonderful! Toni and Sydney were so friendly and attentive to my needs. I had pain after I got home and they quickly got me another prescription and it worked great! I am a RN so my expectations are pretty high and Dr. Bruns staff more than exceeded mine! Also I had gotten another quote for the same procedure and my out of pocket cost was going to be 5x the amount I paid at Dr. Bruns. Thanks guys! You're doing a fantastic job!!!! read more

STAY AWAY!!! Dr. Bruns is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever interacted with. My first consultation was less than 5 minutes because he refused to answer any of my questions until his staff submitted the quote to my insurance to find out my co-pays. I asked him one question about the pinhole surgical technique as an alternative to gum grafting and he literally laughed at me and said "oh you don't want that." I told him that I had several questions about the procedure and the recovery process, because he told me nothing, and he promised he would answer all of my questions at my next consultation. At the next consultation, same thing he told me to just schedule the procedure and he would answer my questions then. He literally spent 60 seconds with me! I asked him how many days I should take off of work and how long I will be unable to eat and he said "a little while." He wouldn't give me a clear answer until I asked him multiple times. He made me feel unimportant and stupid. He was extremely rude and arrogant and I recommend that no one go to him. read more
