It's been a couple years since my last review and I thought a time to say that I miss happy as ever with this office. Largely thanks to Dr Sai and Sally I'm now in the preventative mode as it were with no serious issues. So I haven't needed to see Dr Tsai for a while but I always feel especially comfortable in his care If needed. In the meantime hygenist Sally has been doing an incredible job , as always, keeping my teeth clean and in good shape while watching out for any problems, EG no more fives and sixes , If you get back drift, and very few cavities for someone who is prone to them. I've been a patient of Dr. Eric Tsai for several years now, and I can genuinely say I'm grateful for the care I've received from him and his team. I have very high anxiety when it comes to any dental procedure, and I also have extremely sensitive gums and an overall low pain tolerance. Despite that, I continue to come back because I always feel treated with kindness and patience. Dr. Tsai performed gum surgery for me, and I truly believe it made a significant improvement in my gum health and appearance. I also go in for regular deep cleanings, which are never easy for me, but the staff is always understanding, especially when I flinch or tear up from the discomfort. The only thing I'd hope to see improved is the way my sensitivity is addressed during treatment--I understand it's unusual to be this sensitive, but frequent comments about it can sometimes make me feel more self-conscious. That said, I know they mean well and are doing their best to keep me calm. Overall, I trust Dr. Tsai with my periodontal care and am thankful to have a provider who understands how stressful dental work can be for someone like me. I guess they do not teach communication, bed side manner or considerate touch at Harvard. 2 stars. 1 for ease in appointment making and 1 for ease in parking. I wanted to get some laser treatment for my gums. I have some pockets, but 1 area specifically where I had a filling put in. This guy never even talked to me about laser treatment which I had specifically brought up when I made the appointment. He is also VERY clumsy with his tools. Actually blamed me for flinching saying I was scared. I normally NEVER have discomfort when I see my regular dentist and his team. He seemed very in hurry to get through the appointment and before I knew it I was at a desk with someone scheduling 2 appointments for deep cleaning with staff, not the provider. Huh?! What about the laser treatment I asked about when I made the appointment? I told him during the appointment that I had already HAD a deep cleaning a couple times. Then I get a copy of the letter he sent my regular dentist outlining my treatment plan....... Which is to have 2, 2 hour, deep cleanings and then pull out 2 teeth!!!!! WHAT?!?! Who said ANYTHING about pulling out 2 teeth!!!!!!? I am trying to save and heal my gums. That is WHY I asked questions BEFORE I made the initial appointment. I think this guy just went to a fancy school and is now just trying to make as much money as possible. No communication. No bed side manner. Sloppy with dental tools. read more

As others have stated, Dr. Tsai's bedside manners, care and approach are abrasive and rough. Although I had a visible infection in an area, Dr. Tsai proceeded to jab at the infected site even though I was crying. The front office female receptionist was not warm and was careless in everything from the paperwork to handling of my drivers license and credit card. There was a lack of simple greetings by both the receptionist and Dr. Tsai ... kindness is free and particularly for patients who fear going to the dentist and are visibly shaken from their visit, empathy and human-ness would have gone a long way but these are not gentle or kind humans. The atmosphere at the office is not positive and it is a shame because it is conveniently close. read more

I rarely write reviews and apologize for how long this is, but I really appreciated Dr. Tsai's bedside manner. I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks and was very apprehensive about having a gum graft on 3 of my lower front teeth. I've had some bad dentists over the years and can firmly state that Dr. Tsai's kind and patient demeanor during the procedure along with his ability to answer all my questions helped ease my fears. Backstory: I inherited thin gums and after catching covid 3 times in 4 years, I've also developed strange long-covid symptoms, including covid fingers/toes (inflammation similar to chilblains that lasted for months and required steroids). I vacationed in Mexico, which worked wonders on my inflamed fingers, but then I developed severe oral thrush. My gums detached from one of my lower front teeth and left an open pocket with the root exposed at least 4mm. I was referred to Dr. Tsai. Dr. Tsai got me in for a consultation in less than a week and confirmed I needed a gum graft on the tooth with severe recession plus the 2 surrounding it. The gum prodding required for evaluation was uncomfortable, especially near the tooth with exposed root and I bled a little, but Dr. Tsai was relatively gentle and patient with me. He answered all my questions and warned me that due to the severity of recession I would likely still have exposed root on that tooth after the gum graft and the gumline would not match with the others, but would have thicker gingiva below and surrounding it to prevent further recession. I was scheduled for a free gingival graft and frenectomy the next week and prescribed 2 doses of lorazepam to be taken beforehand. The lorazepam did nothing... my anxiety was still through the roof, which the receptionists were surprised since supposedly most patients seem half asleep. I have a fast metabolism and strong tolerance to sedatives, so this was to be expected in my opinion. I opted for the local anesthetic only since it cost more for oral anesthesia (Halcion pills) and even more for full IV anesthesia, which was not covered by insurance and already would only cover 50% of the graft itself. Dr. Tsai used topical numbing gel to minimize the discomfort felt during the numerous lidocaine shots, which were relatively manageable, except for the lower front where my gums were already extremely sensitive and thin. It hurt so bad I involuntarily jerked my head away and started crying a bit, but Dr. Tsai responded with kindness and assured me he got a little of the lidocaine in and it shouldn't hurt as much on the second try, which he was correct. I was very thankful for how Dr. Tsai handled this, rather than getting annoyed when I jerked away like some of my past dentists have, he seemed understanding and attempted to quell my fear before proceeding. This put me at ease and the rest of the 2-hour procedure went by with very little discomfort. Near the end, the lidocaine started wearing off due to my fast metabolism and I said "owe" when he was stitching the graft on the lower teeth, so he quickly administered more lidocaine. Post-op went okay too, except I threw up that night and the morning after (probably from anxiety and inability to eat much mixed with pain meds). I slept a lot and by day 4 or 5 most of the swelling was subsiding and I didn't experience too much pain above a 5 on the pain scale. On day 9 most of my stitches had dissolved and I went back to have the surgical dressing removed, which I was surprised Dr. Tsai was not present for. Unfortunately, the graft itself did not attach to the tooth that had severe recession like I had hoped and there was still at least 4mm of exposed root, even though I was very careful and diligently followed the post-op instructions. However, this is not too unexpected with my history and at least the surrounding two teeth along with lower gingiva were successful. At the time though I was pretty upset by the outcome after a week of waiting for the unveiling, so the hygienist reached out to Dr. Tsai, who called me later that night and text me pictures of the graft right after surgery to show initial placement. I sent back pics of how it looked then and agreed that he did a good job with the grafting, it just didn't attach as well on that one tooth for some reason. I appreciated his overall responsiveness though. He saw me in person several days later and confirmed what we had discussed on the phone: I will likely need another graft in 6+ months or other procedure. This was disappointing, but I think Dr. Tsai did the best he could surgically and I would highly recommend him to others. It has been almost 4 weeks post-op and my graft and donor site (palate) have healed well and faster than I expected; still a little sensitive but doing great. Dr. Tsai's knowledge and experience with severe cases like mine as well as his patience and kind demeanor made a huge difference to someone like me who suffers from anxiety and white-coat fear. Dr. Eric Tsai is AMAZING. I have always been very self conscious of my smile as my teeth appeared very small. As i've gotten older, I knew I wanted to get it fixed, but was nervous about the procedure and if it wouldn't make a difference that I was happy with. My dentist (Dr. Annoni- he's also amazing) spoke very highly of Dr. Tsai, so I booked a consult. Dr. Tsai was very precise at the consultation, really measured my teeth, examined X Rays, & told me the possible routes we could take to get to where I want to be. He was very confident that it would make a drastic change, for the better & I would love the outcome. Not to mention, I live in Southern California, so I flew up for the procedure because I was the most confident going with him. I scheduled the procedure and two months later I went it. It was a breeze and went fantastic. After the procedure he told me I would love the results, and he was not wrong. When he gave me the mirror, I shed a few happy tears. 1 week post op they do a check up appt that is super quick just to make sure heeling is going well & then another at 2 months post op. I just had my 2 month post op appt and am fully healed and I could not have imagined an outcome like this. Tsai & his team are professional, timely & truly do such amazing work. Dr. Eric S Tsai is the best and excellent Periodontist. Dr. Tsai did an amazing job of gum grafting. I'm extremely happy with my perfect gum grafting results and his excellent customer services. Dr. Tsai deserves unlimited stars. My first oral surgery for the left side was on 05/16/23 and the second surgery for the right side was on 11/15/23. My surgeries healed quickly, and the new gums look very beautiful. My entire gum was receding badly. Dr. Tsai removed gum tissue from the roof of my mouth and used it to rebuild my new gum. I chose not to be sedated so I experienced the whole process of the surgery. Dr. Tsai was very gentle and caring. He did everything so well and smoothly. I was relaxed and comfortable at the surgeries so I often fell asleep. When he injected me, I felt the needle in, but it was not hurt at all. I did not feel any pain during the surgeries and after the surgeries throughout the healing periods. Dr. Tsai called me on the same night of each surgery to ensure I was doing well. Dr. Tsai's tender loving care really touched my heart. The gum grafting makes my teeth shorter so I can floss and brush much easier. I truly appreciate Dr. Tsai for the efforts and creative skills he put into my surgeries. I felt safe and happy when having Dr. Tsai do my surgeries. He did exactly how I like. Getting an implant is a fairly complicated procedure and I wanted to make sure I was using the most qualified and experienced periodontist I could find. Dr. Tsai and his staff in the Walnut Creek office were very welcoming, accommodating and able to fit me into their schedule immediately. I was experiencing pain on my right molar, dull/throbbing pain also brought on when drinking hot liquids (it was hard to determine if pain was top or bottom tooth, that's how much right side of mouth hurt). Dr. Tsai performed a series of tests and determined it was my top right crown, and likely needing a root canal. He referred me back to my general dentist, Dr. Burke, to share x-rays & solution and within days I was seen by Dr. Cohen (also Concord location), to perform the root canal. They were able to take care of me on the spot and the pain has completely gone away. I would highly recommend Dr. Tsai's office! read more

When I needed an implant for my upper front tooth, my dentist insisted that I call Dr. Tsai's office for the procedure. While many periodontists and dentists can do implants, no one came more highly recommended, is more respected, and made me feel more at ease about a very complicated procedure. I needed a bone graft and gum graft before I was ready for the titanium implant. All in all my procedure lasted about 14 months, until I had the final crown in place. Dr. Tsai was professional, kind, explained all the steps in great detail, and helped me to feel comfortable. His staff always remembered me and were incredibly friendly. I went to Dr. Tsai at the request of my dentist. I had split my front tooth (at the root) in half but hadn't checked it out for more than a year. He said it was a miracle that it didn't fall out within a day of the break. He was more puzzled that in the 18 months that I avoided using it to chew food, that it hadn't become infected. So there I was, 18 months down the road, looking at an X-ray of my broken tooth. I panicked. I thought I would have to wear a retainer, or worse, an Invisaline-type retainer. What that would have done to my dating life! I was also very nervous around dentists because of a previous bad experience. But I went in for surgery and was calmly collected. Partly due to his knowledge, reassurance and honestly. Partly because his staff was nurturing and polite. He told me that if my bone was strong enough to place a metal screw, I could leave with an INSTANT IMPLANT! I couldn't believe it. The pain was minimal (I took Advil for two days) and I was at work the following day. I went in for a few checkups. One appointment he even chiseled the tooth down because he wanted it to be perfect. I am beyond happy with the outcome. I am now in the final stages, where I have to make an appointment with my original dentist for the permanent and my temporary looks great. Nobody could ever tell it's fake. Dr. Tsai's staff is also excellent. They know you by name, treat you with respect and are accomidating. I give Dr. Tsai and the entire staff two very enthusiastic thumbs up. When it comes to dental repair, I needed an honest perfectionist. That's exactly what I found with Dr. Tsai. I was referred to Dr Tsai by my dentist for a cavity that was partly under the gum. Dr Tsai suggested that I needed extensive gum grafting, involving two harvestings of all my available palate tissue. I felt this was premature at the least, because at the time I had far more pressing problems with some teeth that needed removal. I eventually had Dr Tsai perform some extractions for me. The procedure was successful, although I did not like listening to Dr Tsai chatting with his assistant about the development of his practice. I prefer to think the surgeon is focused on the job at hand. In addition, he did not see me again to remove the stitches but left it to an assistant, who left in a stitch which was found by my dentist several weeks later. Dr Tsai made extremely disparaging insinuations about my dentist, repeatedly, which i found off-putting and unfounded. I think he is also pretty expensive compared to others. I was very scared after I was in an accident and impacted my front tooth which lead to an infection. I was refereed to dr. tsai. I had to have my tooth pulled, a skin graph from the roof of my mouth and bone packed in and 6 months later an implant put in. I am very picky on how teeth look and was so worried about how my smile would be affected. Dr.tsai is awesome about making your mouth look perfect! Also he makes you feel comfortable when you are there along with one of his assistants Christina! I had to get iv sedation two times and was freaked out after i had a bad experience with my wisdom teeth but dr.tsai made me feel at ease and i felt great after. I put off having a front tooth implant for years because of my fear. When I finally went for a consultation with Dr, Tsai, I surprised myself by making the decision to go ahead with the procedure before I left the office that day. I had total confidence in him. He is professional, knowledgeable and patient in explaining all the possible scenarios. I was very impressed learning about the cutting edge techniques he employs. The extraction, gum and bone replacement surgery was so much less uncomfortable than I had imagined, and the after- surgery pain was manageable with prescription Ibuprofen. Dr. Tsai was very attentive in his follow-up and his staff is excellent. It was always a pleasant experience visiting his office. All that was required on my part was patience going through all the required steps in the process which can take several months. I was very nervous at first, I know none of us like work done on our mouth. I had my very first gum surgery done here at the office, and really, honestly, it was not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, Dr. Tsai broke up the surgery to do two, since the gum recession I had was so bad. Everyone that works here is great!! The last gum surgery I had was more then one area of my mouth, and because of that, I had more bleeding. Unfortunately, the first deep cleaning I had done here was not at all pleasant, not to say it was anyone's fault, I was just so glad when that was done. read more

As a mid-long term patient of Dr. Tsai - I must say things have changed significantly in his office... For the worst... He changes staff every year, the billing is never accurate and his latest front office receptionist is crude, rough and not in the least bit helpful. My treatment has been going on for years with no resolve.... I've had a hard time with the turnover of his staff flagging down what needs to be done next... On top of that I've spent over the tens of thousands in his office and wait an average of 20-30minutes to be seated and another 20-30mins before the doctor enters the room the last thing I want to hear about when I'm sitting around waiting is his staff gossiping about previous staff members and the doctors affairs. This is extremely tasteless and unprofessional to boot. I don't know what the heck is going on here - I can't begin to explain how disappointing his services have become over the years. His work hasn't been all that it has cracked up to be... saddened to write this review. read more

Dr. Tsai is truly as good as it gets! He has a wonderful bedside manner and unlike many other surgeons is not "knife happy". He is highly respected among all others in the dental community and it is clear to see why. He is compassionate and up to date on the latest techniques for the best outcomes. For my gum surgery, I was completely sedated through IV medication. I was quite anxious about the needle however Dr. Tsai was so gentle with the needle that I didn't even feel it going into my arm. The procedure itself went smoothly and Dr. Tsai called me the same night to make sure I was recovering well. I am so happy that I choose to see Dr. Tsai! If you have to go to a periodontist, go to Dr. Eric Tsai; he's the best. I had pretty sever receding gums on my lower teeth. Dr. Tsai did gum graphs on 10 of them (all except the molars) and all at the same time. Pretty much painless except the pallet where he removed tissue to graph to the gums. I was fitted with a retainer in advance and it protected the pallet after the surgery and allowed me to eat (using those untouched molars). Several friends' periodontist did not provide a retainer. They were in agonizing pain and unable to eat much for weeks. My gums look great, better than they have in years. The staff is wonderful. Personable, informative and efficient. All in all a pleasure to deal with. If I ever move from the area, I'd come back to Dr. Tsai for periodontal work read more

I opted to get an implant instead of a retainer. So glad I made that choice and that my Dentist, Tom Fasanaro sent me to a expert. The office staff is friendly and always helpful. I am still in the process of the implant but I even got a call from Dr. Tsai to see if I was feeling ok. My temp. retainer is so perfect, you can't even tell its fake. I resisted going to Dr. Tsai because I like to stay close to home. When I asked for another referral, my dentist called back and praised Dr. Tsai so much that I decided that both my son and I would go to him for gum grafting. What a great surprise to discover that Dr. Tsai was the same positive, hard-working, brilliant guy that I had taught in 7th-grade! How could I forget that bright warm smile even though it had been 27 years!! I am so glad that we decided to go with him. Dr. Tsai was very gentle and professional with my 18-year-old son. He recovered so quickly that I was calm and positive going in for my surgery. The surgery was easy and I also recovered quickly even though my surgery was more extensive. Dr. Tsai and his staff are the best! I had a dental implant that went bad and was causing bone loss and infection. My awesome dentist (Dr Burkman) noticed it early on and recommended me to see the one and only specialist - Dr Tsai. From the moment I started getting treatment, I knew they had my best interest in mind. Alternatives were tried to correct the implant, but ultimately I was told it had to be completely redone. Since it was just 10 yrs old and was supposed to last a lifetime, this should have been bad news but I was very relieved that Dr Tsai was willing to start over and correct someone else's error. The first step was to remove the old implant and do graphs to build back lost lost bone and gum. Dr Tsai took all precautions requiring a 3d xray which allowed the surgery and recovery to go perfectly. After the healing was complete he put in the new implant. Again, the procedure was flawless and the healing time was minimal with thorough care instructions. Dr Tsai even called me at home both times to see how I was doing. The staff is very friendly and helpful with scheduling and followup. I will actually miss the visits. I am very happy with my new tooth and it was worh the wait and every penny! In the past three years, I have two tooth implants performed by Dr. Tsai. First implant was at lower jaw for tooth number 19. The second one was for upper jaw tooth number 4. Lower jaw implant was more like routine type, the upper jaw one was scary to me because of near sinus area. Dr. Tsai performed both surgeries flawlessly from extracting existing teeth to implants. He explained to me what the procedures would be, with instructions for the preparations before and medications after surgeries. I was very impressed that I did not have any infections or complications for both implants. I had two wisdom teeth extracted by two different dentists before; in both cases I had infections and complications with swollen face. In comparison with other dentists I have dealt with, Dr. Tsai is really an excellent periodontist. read more

Dr. Tsai is a master at implants. I was told by another professional that an implant was not even an option for me due to the lack of space in my mouth. I saw Dr. Tsai for a second opinion and I was blown away. He not only told me the procedure was possible, but he walked me through each step. I was nervous about the implant surgery, but I shouldn't have been. The surgery went smoothly and was a complete success. I couldn't believe how little pain there was. Dr. Tsai performed an instant implant and bone graph. Four months later I am ready for my new tooth. My husband had implant surgery done at another office. There is no doubt that Dr. Tsai is an attentive and meticulous periodontist! I am seeing him for an implant of a front tooth, and he is making sure everything is as perfect as he can get it. His care even included an extra tissue graft surgery, which he performed free-of-charge since it was not in the original treatment plan/budget. I love that Dr. Tsai calls a few hours after the procedure to let you know how everything went and to check up on how you're feeling. His office also schedules regular follow-up appointments, during which Dr. Tsai records the healing process by taking tons of pictures. Since everything is digital, it's easy to request all your records via email. All of his office assistants are remarkably kind, and make you feel extremely comfortable in-office and over the phone. I learned that getting a good implant can be a long process, but knowing that Dr. Tsai is doing his best really puts me at ease. read more

I was DREADING my very extensive gum grafting. I had put it off for years. I met several periodontists and was not certain they could handle my serious recession. I met Dr. Tsai and I signed up for the surgery right away. He gave me peace of mind that he knew exactly what he was doing and that he took pride in doing the best job possible. It was as pleasant as it could be - the entire experience from the front office, making appointments, insurance claims, calling the office to the assistants in the surgery room with Dr. Tsai and to Dr. Tsai himself. He is such a nice, kind, smart person. I had a question over the weekend - he got back to me straight away. The entire team has been fabulous and first class. While I did not enjoy the grafting AT ALL, I certainly am happy I went with Dr. Tsai and his team. If I had to do it again (I hope not), I will go straight back to Dr. Tsai.
