I recently contracted Pacific Concrete to build the concrete decking around our new pool, which was…read morein the process of being built. Our pool company referred us to PC and after getting a couple of other quotes, I ultimately decided to go with PC because their professionalism and the fact that they'd worked with our pool company on multiple jobs. They finished our decking a couple of weeks ago and I'm beyond pleased with the results. The quote and sales process, which was handled by Justin, was timely, professional, and thorough. Justin listened to what we wanted in terms of design and aesthetic, gave us a few options in terms of color and finish, and had a solution to some of the more tricky issues we had to deal with (such as eliminating a sump pump and replacing it with a French drain). The construction process was also handled professionally and as timely as possible. The crew lost several weeks of work time due to the crazy rains in San Diego in February & March, but Brandon, Juan, and the rest of the team was there to work and get as much done as they could on the days the weather cooperated. A few other things stand out from my experience with PC. During the construction phase and prior to the pour, I wanted to make sure the areas that were free of concrete weren't land-locked in terms of having water and electrical sources for future irrigation and landscape lighting. A five min conversation with Brandon led to them adding conduit and irrigation tubes and re-routing some of the water sources in our backyard to make sure we were covered. There was a minimal charge, but I really appreciated Brandon listening to my request and working with me to find a solution. Also, special shout to the detail that went into capping off a few steps in our layout to match the pool coping/finish (see photos). Overall I'm super pleased with the end result and experience working with Pacific Concrete. I've already asked them to come back and give a quote for phase II of our project to demo the existing fence and put in a retaining wall. Look forward to working with them again soon.

Overall I'm okay with how everything turned out, but the 3-star is representative of the additional…read moreunexpected costs and lack of attention to detail. Like others stated, Justin and his partner Brandon are really nice guys - Justin handles the business side and Brandon was essentially the project manager. There were a few design changes during this process. The most prominent change being the material we had to use to obtain the necessary permit from City of Poway. We downgraded from a premium modern block to a split-face CMU block and ultimately cost us an additional $14K. I realized later I had similar quotes for the CMU block retaining wall for $13K less than I was charged for this aspect of the project. In regards to the lack of attention to detail, I had two issues. (1) When we pivoted to the split face CMU block, Brandon told me to send him the color I wanted. I sent him the specific details to a light gray CMU block that matched the more modern aesthetic of our backyard. What was ultimately ordered and installed was a natural gray (tan). (2) It's expected the split face CMU has inconsistencies, however the crew that installed it used a block that had a giant divot and placed another that had a giant bulge, even though there was a decent amount of material leftover. I chose Pacific Concrete because they were referred by my pool company, but looking back I would have approached this much differently. I wouldn't discourage OR recommend anyone work with them. I just recommend to do your homework.

The Nordstrom of Asphalt…read more Two years ago, we got several quotes to re-asphalt our driveway, but took no action due to general dread. We weren't looking forward to spending the money or having heavy equipment on the driveway. A few weeks ago, Patrick Ferry of Aztec Paving called to say he'd driven by and noticed our driveway still needed repair. We marveled at this incredible feat of salesmanship - that this man would circle back on a bid from two years prior. We've had instances where we couldn't even get a company to respond to a request for a quote, so this level of follow-through blew our minds. This, plus the fact that Aztec's quote was the most reasonable, helped us decide to move forward. We love our glorious new driveway, which took a mere two days to complete. The Aztec crew was fast, efficient, respectful of our property, and were great communicators throughout the process. Even our neighbors commented on how courteous "the guys working on your driveway" were. Thank you, Patrick, and the whole crew at Aztec Paving. Your customer service is on par with Nordstrom.

It is a flagstone patio in which he poured a concrete slab, let it set, then came back and set large pieces of flagstone on top in mortar while considering and making the drainage perfect. Dean and Robert didn't just do great work. They earned my trust…read more My wife designed the layout and my engineer contributed specifications. What impressed me is that Dean and Robert took both and made them better, using their real knowledge of how concrete works. The control joints are placed right, they put in real drainage with actual drains and grading built throughout, and it looks clean and classy without being overdone. Flatwork around the entire house, driveway, front yard, backyard, both sides, fencing, gates. Did they get everything perfect on the first pass? Almost. What separates them is that when something was off, they owned it completely. No excuses, no pushback, just fixed. They paid attention to details that other contractors I quoted either missed entirely or only caught after I nudged them. Dean caught everything without me saying a word. Every day at the end of their shift they cleaned up and secured the site, even when it wasn't convenient. Robert ran a tight field operation and cared about every detail like his reputation depended on it. I have a young kid at home and that told me everything about who these guys are. I had my own engineer come out and review the work on-site. He looked around and said, unprompted, "You've got a great crew here." Engineers don't hand out compliments. That meant something. These guys come from commercial construction and brought that level of expertise to a residential job without going overkill. I actually spotted their truck at another client's property. Here's my honest take: if my mom needed this much work done and I couldn't be there to check in, I would still trust Dean to make sure she was taken care of. That's the highest thing I can say.
