Had a backup of my septic late Friday evening which is a very unpleasant situation. On Saturday morning I called the company that I use to pump the septic and they told me they couldn't help (thanks for nothing Lakeland). Saw the good reviews for John Matthes so my wife made the call and spoke with Lisa who was great. She said not to worry, she would find a way to get someone out to help us that day. Joe showed up a few hours later and was clearly a bigger job than he expected but he knocked it out of the park. He also told me it looked like it wasn't pumped correctly the last time which was pretty disappointing to hear. As a side note Joe was driving one of the nicest septic trucks I have seen. Think it goes to show that these guys take good care of their equipment. All in all a great experience. Thanks Lisa for finding a way to squeeze us in and thanks Joe for taking care of business. I am so pleased by the service that I received from John Matthes Septic Plumbing. I had neglected my septic tank for many years and of course developed a major problem. I thought that I was looking at a $20,000 fix. Due to other commitments, I also had a small window during which time I could have them help me. The receptionist was wonderful on the telephone. She said that she would reschedule some routine appointments to accommodate me and she did. The technician who came out was very knowledgeable, very pleasant and was able to clean out my tank by refilling it twice with the used water in order to remove the heavy sludge. He also helped me to figure out how to clear the lines to my gray water tank without me having to open it up. The whole experience was so much easier than I feared. I needed a septic pumping and cleaning. The receptionist was so nice and professional. She got me scheduled right away. John showed up in his big blue Peterbilt and thoroughly explained what he was planning on doing and when finished thoroughly explained what he saw and what we needed to do moving forward (complete with pictures). He went above and beyond to answer any questions and addressed all concerns. In the end, I learned things about septic tanks that I didn't know before. Not the same company as it used to be. We found a terrible backup of our septic sytem last night. I called John Matthes Septic as we have used them several times and they pumped our system 1 year ago. The woman answering the emergency line said she couldn't find our account and they couldn't help us that night. However, she said we would be on the schedule for the next day and someone would call in the morning. I called at 8:30am not hearing from them earlier, to find that we were NOT on the schedule and it hadn't been noted as an emergency. They still couldn't find our account. It was then that I learned that a new company had acquired John Matthes so this was not the same company. At least this person tried to get a dispatcher or supervisor to help us and said she would call back. Fortunately, I was able to get M&B Septic (who came and did a terrific job!). When the woman from John Matthes called me back they said they would have to charge me an emergency fee to come today or I could wait for tomorrow. I told them not to bother. I will no longer be a customer. BTW - M&B were very responsive and knowledgeable, fixed the problem quickly and did NOT charge me an emergency charge! read more

First time customer... after calling in John Matthes Septic Pumping I don't want to deal with any other septic company going forward. I have a 2,500 gallon sealed system. When the alarm light indicates the tanks are full I don't have very long before it backs up. And with all the rain I was worried. When I called the company I've been using for many yrs, and have a long standing contract with, they told me they are currently not pumping. NOT what I wanted to hear. Figured this is going to be a big problem. Looked around for another company, saw the great reviews that J. Matthes had and decided to call. Donna answered and couldn't have been more understanding. She did say they were extremely busy but she would do her best to locate a truck and see if they could fit me in. It wasn't more than a few hours before Anthony the driver/tech said he was in the area and on his way. I was so relieved. He was efficient, friendly, and didn't waste any time getting down to business. This is the kind of service that customers hope for but rarely find. We had a septic backup emergency. I called at 10am and reached Donna. Donna notified Tony, the technician, about the emergency immediately. Tony happened to be in the area with the truck and came by WITHIN 15 MINUTES! Now, they say for emergencies they will get to you that day, so please don't expect the amazing 15 minute service I received. But Wow! So Tony came and pumped it. He answered some questions I had and recommended a review of the system to identify what happened. Very pleasant and helpful. The whole thing, from call to working system, took about an hour and change. Highly recommend this company. I called others, but they didn't pick up right away. read more

Would NOT recommend. My tanks were 75% full and they charged me as they were both full. RipOff! Will never use again.UPDATE: Received a call on 4/25/2019 from the owner John Matthes threatening to make up a lie to the town "saying my septic is leaking" if I don't remove my feedback on him. My septic is 100% fine and get it serviced regularly, I will have this crook and liar investigated by the NJ Attorney General! Septic pumping may be a dirty job but John Matthes Septic does it right. After years with some other company they merged and decided customer service was unimportant and jacked up fees was the new focus. After trying and failing all day for an emergency situation Andover Pump company recommended Matthes and I can't thank them enough. I called after 3 pm on Friday evening and after some calls and arranging they sent out a great driver who took care of us professionally and promptly, and then happily agreed when our neighbor asked if they could get done as well.
