My septic had an issue and I called David Zuidema's Septic service to give me an estimate. they charge $150 a visit, which is fair, however their estimate is a rip off. Price of the pump of $1300, Floater $60 each. Their estimate was $4318.81. When I asked for discount, they got irritated, however in the end they offered me $100 discount. Do not use this company before getting other estimate. My project is done professionally with one year warranty for $2500, and I saved close to $2000. I won't recommend this company to anyone. This is a good example of rip off from vulnerable people. read more

While selling my house... another septic inspection company (CSI) botched the entire inspection and tried to claim there was a serious and costly issue with my septic system. It put a hold on my sale and put me in violation which was completely unfounded. I called Zuidema inc, with not the best attitude, thinking something had been missed when I purchased the home and that it would cost me more than I could afford to fix. David Zuidema, HIMSELF, personally contacted me and came to the house. He brought Alex over to do another inspection and to find out what was going on. Within 5 minutes they confirmed that issue the other company spoke of was nonexistent. He gave his expertise up until the end about minor updates that needed to be made. I rented a deluxe portable toilet during the 4th of July weekend services and customer service was excellent. Twice the driver requested date changes for delivery and pick up no problem. As a nurse I know during COVID you have to be willing to alter your schedule for humanity sake. I requested to use their services again 7/18-7/19 had already scheduled to use their services was told I replied after 6pm so I will have to pay for a $25 delivery for the day of my event. I replied I accept but under duress for the extra charge. I received an email they are unable to accommodate my order. Do Not Use this Company. We use Zuidema to pump our system all the time they are very reliable and always show up on time.

The good news: driver showed up on time. The bad news: destroyed all the plant life above and around the septic tank opening. I told him to "peel" the soil/plants back, but he hacked away at it and killed most of it. The previous time I used this company the driver did the clean-out with minimal damage but this time it took me a hour to clean-up his mess (and it will take a year or two to grow back what was killed). My advice: use this company if you want to, but expose the tank top yourself if you want it done right. read more

When we moved in to our new house in 2007, we assumed that it was connected to town sewer. When water started backing up through a toilet in our powder room, we realized that the original plumber that put in the plumbing pulled a fast one. Apparently, our sewer is connected to a septic tank buried under a driveway of our neighbor. We called these guys in to just give us an estimate on how much it would cost to fill the septic tank with gravel so that it wouldn't collapse. We told them that we would have to discuss any estimate with our neighbor since the tank was on their side and they were paying half the cost. The estimate came in at $1500. When the neighbor decided to go with a cheaper option (under $1000), we told the company we are not using them. Surprisingly, they said that they would send us an invoice of $133 for providing the estimate. We were shocked. First, they never told us they would charge for providing the estimate. Second, they did absolutely no work, except to look around. When we refused, they sued us in small claims court. Can you believe that? I would not do any business with these guys. But, if you do, make sure that you understand they will charge for that. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB. read more

Once again David Zuidema, Inc. came through for me in a timely fashion. I noticed yesterday that my septic was full, called the office in the afternoon and the truck was here first thing in the morning. Job well done by a very professional operator named Chris. David Zuidema has been servicing my house for over 20 years. In fact, they were the only ones out of four companies that were able to find the buried septic tanks in the first place. The prior owner didn't even know where they were located. The opening was over 4 feet down!!! A riser was installed which made life a lot easier. One year, I had an emergency and David himself came out in a heavy rain storm and took care of it himself. I felt so bad because his shirt was soaked and dirty I gave him a clean dry shirt when he left. This is an outstanding company that keeps their customers satisfied. read more

Zuidema's field team did a great job when repairing a cracked septic pipe issue we had at our home. I have also used them for septic pump outs and they always did a good job. However, the customer service within the office is terrible and beyond frustrating to deal with and because of that I would never use them again. I had to call morning and evening for three days straight to confirm if a service appointment was going to take place for a major problem. Each time I called I was told, "we will try." Day of the "confirmed" service appointment after waiting over five hours in my home with three small children losing their minds, I called again and was told "sorry we probably won't be able to do this." The woman could have cared less. How in the hell do you run an office like this? How do you expect people to organize their life around "we will try to get there." Insanity. Zero courtesy. I could only rely on communicating with the field service team after they showed up and reassured me they would return to finish the job. In fact they gave me their direct cell phone to confirm directly with them. The best was when one of the ladies in the office called me to see if the job was complete. Shouldn't she know that?? I was then billed without ever being sent a final invoice showing the adjusted rate. But that's how they get you. When you call to schedule your appointment they ask for a credit card to hold the appointment. When all was said and done, I called and said I wanted to speak with David Zuidema so he knew what was going on and never got that return phone call. Our new house in NJ, has seen two previous septic companys whos techs were... well in plain English Tools Rob from D. Zuideman came to our home Saturday, friendly, courteous, and most importantly knowledgeable on how to properly clean our system. He offered important additional advice on the proper time table to keep up with the maintenance of our pump up system to prevent an emergency situation I was sold on D. Zuideman when Rob began to speak very fondly of his employer. If one's employee's are happy that will ultimately flow down to the people they service. Great job D. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!! Their driver hit me on the NYS Thruway and I followed him beeping at him he started to get over and I thought he was getting over because he realized he hit me but he was getting off the exit. I continued to follow him beeping at him until we stopped at a red light and I pulled next to him and he took his headphones out of his ear (obviously this is why he couldn't hear me beeping for miles) we pulled into a parking lot where he jumped out of the truck told me this happens all the time people "claim" he hits them and he doesn't hit people. He looked at his truck as he's wiping the paint of my car off the side saying there is no damage to the truck I didn't hit you. He walks over looks at my car says do what you need to do. The police wouldn't come out because I had to follow him off the highway. He also almost hit me pulling out of the spot because he couldn't wait 2 seconds for me to move my car. Their insurance company won't open a claim because it's "illegal" to open a claim with out the business. They refuse to deal with me so here's a review of what happened if you trust that they will do the right thing for you or your business good for you but I would never trust them! I don't follow strangers for miles just to "claim" they hit when I'm on my way to work. read more

Please watch out when you see them around your house. The driver's drive carelessly directly on your property if they want access to the portopotties for service. They did damage to my property and first when I called I spoke with Melvin ( also sent pictures ) he told me the damage would be fixed. Today another Melvin called me and said the damage will not be fixed because from the picture they don't think it was their truck ( I have a surprise for them ) . How many Melvin's are there ? Do not use this company they will damage your and your neighbor's properties too. They use careless drivers and you will have problems. My advice is to stay away from this company. Please shop elsewhere for your septic needs! When we purchased our home 17 years ago, we were given a letter from David Zuidema Spetic Service, Inc, stating that a "visual and probing inspection" was completed at our property and they were "unable to locate or detect a tank in the ground". We are selling our house now and the buyer's inspector discovered that there is indeed a septic tank still on the premises. My husband called Mr. Zuidema who came to the house, looked at the hole dug in our backyard and saw the letter from his company. They came to a gentleman's agreement that Mr, Zuidema would supply the filler and we would pay approximately $200-300 for one of his workers to come fill the tank. Two days before our re inspection, Mr. Zuidema stated that he did not make that deal and would drop the rock off on our front lawn for us to fill. He refuses to get on the phone with us to discuss this any further. We ended up paying a landscaper $1200 to fill the tank. It is extremely sad to me having grown up in this town to be treated this way by what some people consider a reputable company. In my opinion, a reputable company would have stood by their original claim that there was no tank and taken care of it. We tried to work with him but he did not stand by his verbal agreement. If we had known a tank existed when we bought the home, the sellers would have had to pay for it. Shame on the Zuidema company for not caring enough and standing by his written and verbal words. read more

Had them inspect my tanks when I moved in - put my credit card on file - they charged a higher price, but no issues. Called them last month for routine septic tank pumping (had to call numerous times, include submitting a request via website). Owner David finally answered and scheduled service - did not ask for payment. Service provided by tech, no issues, no payment requested. An invoice for ~$500 was left in our mailbox. One week later I mailed a check in their pre-printed envelope. No issues - no septic worries for a few years. 2-3 weeks later, I come home from work to hear from my wife, someone had come banging on the front door in the middle of the day demanding payment. He didn't introduce himself, or explain payment for what. She asked him who he was, and found him aggressive and threatening. She wisely, did not open the front door. He claimed to have been calling for payment multiple times with no response. She asked what #, and he gave a wrong #. She gave him our correct #, and suggested this is likely a misunderstanding. Another invoice was left in our mailbox. OK - simple misunderstanding. I will find out what happened to first check (likely lost by their disorganized office), cancel it, and send another one. Not so simple - I miss a call while driving home from work the next day, to hear an aggressive voicemail from David the owner, suggesting I have no intention of paying him, that I am unprofessional, etc. My wife hears his voice, and confirms he is the one who came to the front door the day before. ?WTF? Didn't she explain he was calling the wrong #? If his cash flow is low, they could have requested payment up front? Don't they have my credit card on file from the first time anyway? It gets worse - I call the next morning and speak directly to the owner, David. Aggressive, nasty, suggesting I intentionally gave him the wrong # to avoid payment? How can someone avoid payment for service at your own home?! When I attempted to explain how inappropriate I, the customer, find his behavior, he goes off the rails - suggests I am threatening him and suggests he will go to the police. At that point, I relay that a new check is being mailed and our business is now concluded. The techs did acceptable work - but the owner is clearly off his rocker - and his office is disorganized to the point of causing this issue. How would he handle more complex or expensive issues - why would anyone risk it? All of this just happened this week. read more

I hired Zuidema to inspect a septic tank on a house I am purchasing. I called around to get different prices and they are all about the same. However, I see Zuidema trucks all the time all over Bergen county so I figured they must be doing something right. So I hired them. Inspection Day - A service guy named Alex was waiting for me at the schedule time, which means he was early. He was the only one from the company that was there. Let me tell you, this guy busted his ass digging a hole 5 feet down, sweating is his ass off, and forming blisters on his hands. I wanted to help him but he says "nah I got this". He found the tank and did the inspection. He was very thorough throughout the inspection and report. Alex had to return another day due to sunlight going away early the other day, its now "32 degrees outside". This guy had to dig some more and run a camera to do a trench line inspection. I would recommend to anyone and hire again. However, I would only hire again if I get Alex as the service guy. He impressed me so much I don't think I would get the same exceptional service from any other tech. A side note to David Zuidema if you read this: regarding Alex Narrea, I hope you gave a nice year end bonus and raise, he is your top guy! read more
