After contracting with this company the past few years and firing them I leave the following review. This company just like most companies in the lawn-care business treat customers with strong distain. They promise far more than the customer ever receives. This company began by agreeing to maintain my sprinkler system. I explained that my system "was" installed by a journeyman that broke off from a company he worked for and began a private company. Unfortunately afterwards it was discovered that he hadn't installed my sprinkler system in the acceptable way of their industry. First time I realized there was a problem was when I had a problem with several of the sprinkler heads. When he came to my home, he began grabbing used sprinkler heads out of a small box that was stored in the back of his small minivan. He told me that he had rebuilt the used heads. Then there was a time when I rented a lawn aeration machine. After I was done and I turned on my sprinkler system, there were a dozen areas that had leaks from the plastic tubing which was not installed far enough below the surface of the lawn. Unfortunately the lawn sprinkler installer had fallen terminally ill. When I began researching sprinkler system companies, Greg Tanzer Sprinkler Company was located on the YELP search site. Even though the site only had a three star rating, I had requested that they come and look my system over with the intention of hiring them. After coming out and reviewing my sprinkler system, they agreed to service and maintain my system. Shortly after I had a problems with sprinkler heads reaching the required areas causing my lawn to have growth issues and flooding in other areas as well as timer issues. The company came out and replaced specific sprinkler heads but charged me for a service call that was explained by claiming the heads were covered but the labor to change them out was not. This was after a contract of over three hundred dollars was paid. When I called to protest the contract agreement, the woman on the line was very nasty and unsympathetic. Another instance of my sprinkler heads not retracting below the ground, the woman who had "no" installation experience merely stated that it was due to one of two components that pump the water but she couldn't explain which one and if after changing one of the two, I would also have to pay for the other pump. Each one costing over three hundred dollars. Another time she blamed the old rain sensor that they never changed out when they took over the system. Another three hundred dollar charge. Each year I asked to split my contract payment due to being retired and the woman gave me a problem. The final straw came when I kept having with the Timer Box losing the settings and once again the woman with zero experience with the system claims that I have to buy another Timer Box. I finally found one of their workers that would work on my system on his free time; however when it was apparently discovered the woman sent another technician out that became enraged and obnoxious, claiming that while discussing the issue accused me of spitting on him (I was at least seven feet away) as well as not speaking a reasonable amount of English. I finally asked him to leave my property and not to return. EVER! read more

This company has deceitful and misleading business practices like replacing parts that don't need replacing, upselling, and overcharging.

Greg Tanzer Sprinklers is a great organization with honest and efficient employees. You cannot go wrong with them.

While Tanz, Inc. lead with "we've been in business for over 40 years, and value our customers", I fele the furthest thing away from being valued. Tanz installed my sprinkler system about 10 years ago. I reached back out to them as I wanted to replace the main box to the Wi-Fi model. Mario (who was very good) came out to assess and told me that I needed to replace my back flow valve as it was broken and provided an estimate for $922 + tax. After a few days, I received an email from Tanz, Inc with a "revised" quote of over $1,100. What is the point of the initial quote if arbitrarly you're going to send a revised one. When I called and expresses my dissapointment, I was told they will honor the initial quote. The techninican came out on July 17th at 4:15pm and began working. Let's just say things went very south from there where he broke the main valve and would not take responsibility for it. The technician tried calling his supervisor multiple times. Ultimately he got a hold of him and explained what happened and was told a plumber needed to be called and the supervisor was going to provide some phone numbers of plumbers. The technician at the point went back to work to complete what he was doing. When I checked a little later if he received any information regarding plumbers, he said no. At this point I took matters into my own hands, given we had no water, and called a plumber who ultimately came out at 8pm that evening to assess the situation. After assessing, he shared that he wouldn't be able to replace the main shutoff valve until the water company, Veolia, came and shut the water off from the street. The plumber, then called Veolia with me present and asked for a crew member to come to my house to shut the water off. Shortly thereafter, a crew member came and attempted to shut the water and realized he was unable to do it and called for an emergency crew to come out. At 10pm that evening, in the pouring rain, an emergency crew came out and spent 3 hours jackhammering and ultimately shut off my water at the street level at 1am. The next morning Shant came back to replace the water valve, which he did, and then we had to call the water company again this time to come and turn the water back on. When it was all said and done, I didn't have water for almost a full 24 hours which meant no drinking water, inability to wash dishes, or even flush the toilet. Also as a result of there being no water, the technician was unable to assess the sprinkler heads to see if they work or install the new WiFi timer and left without even letting me know. As a result of all this, I had to hire a plumber to come out late at night to address the issue, which incurred an additional cost of $527.79. I requested 50% reimbursement for this amount due to the unforeseen damage caused during your technician's visit. I believe this to be a fair compromise given we had running water when the technician arrived and did not have running water after he shut off the valve and was unable to turn it back on. I sent the invoice from the plumbing service for proof. This was the response I received: "Good afternoon After discussions with my director, the technician and the forman who he was speaking with that night on your property. We are not responsible for the 50% reimbursement. A shut off valve can be beyond our control when it is older. If you have any further questions. Please let me know" I tried, several times to compromise with them in an effort to resolve the matter, and Tanz Inc was willing to lose a customer for $264. Beware! read more

I called Greg Tanzer Sprinklers Irrigation and I was given an appointment right away, actually the next day. The technician's name was Gelbey. He was prompt on time and very professional. He assessed the problem with 4 broken and leaking sprinkler heads. He also addressed a problem that a chipmunk was eating away at the wires. He had the parts on the truck and completed the job quickly and neatly. I would highly recommend this company. They also were extremely fair with the price. The crew from Greg Tanzer Sprinkler showed up right on time with all of the equipment needed to complete the job. We had 6 zones installed throughout the front and back yards. The job was done quickly and everything was wrapped up after lunch time. The crew was extremely knowledgeable of the product and answered any and all questions we had. Once the job was done, the lawn was cleaned up and put back together as if no work had been done at all. Finally, we received a walkthrough of the programs used to make sure we knew exactly how to operate the system. Most of my reviews are strictly eateries and I'm happy to share the good, the bad and the great. On the rare occasion I'll do a review for a goods and service provider. Well this so called provider of sprinklers and outdoor designs has no clue as to how to provide customer satisfaction. They have no idea how to make or keep an appointment. They have no idea what it's like to be civil with a customer and politely reschedule or explain why they can't or are not coming to perform a service. They are quick to cash the check and slow to execute or complete a task. Avoid Tanzer or be prepared to deal with poor execution and be prepared to fight for a refund. Did I say avoid? read more

Very Professional, price was fair. They installed my sprinkler system quickly and the workers were very nice and careful.

Avoid. Used them for spinkler installation previously. Called them for a sprinkler issue this time. I spoke with receptionist Diana, who could not give me an answer to my question and said that the techician Justin is not available either and that he would call me back. I have not heard back for a day, so called back the following morning. This time according to Diana, justin just went into the bathroom and will call me right back. Again, didnt hear back from them. Its a lot easier to get another sprinkler company than to keep calling back. So if you are looking for a responsible sprinker company, look elsewhere, sounds like they are not interested in working and I can only imagine what its like to ask them to guarantee their work if they dont bother calling back potential customers. Absolutely the best. The technician who came out to fix my system was very knowledgable and very thorough. By far the best, and worth the money I paid on a service call. This is the only sprinkler company I'll ever use! So it's now one year later and the problem I had with my system continued but I trusted Tanzer and decided to call them again. I have hired Tanzer Sprinklers for 2 jobs now. Their service is excellent. On the first job the salesman came out and had all the literature pertaining to the products he was going to install. The prices were very competitive. I had 3 estimates done. Tanzer was not the cheapest, however they were giving me the best equipment. When I asked other companies for the exact same setup/equipment, they couldn't do better. The installation team is also excellent. They took care of my property and I got to watch them use advanced equipment for the first system install, and for the second install on our new home they had to dig trenches by hand in the rain. They did it like the pros they are. Very happy with both jobs they did and I would highly recommend them. read more

We paid for services from this company to water our lawn. Sounds pretty basic...but they got it wrong. Quite a few times. And now we have a bunch of dead grass. "Why didn't you call within two weeks?" was the response I got when I called customer service because our grass was dry and had a bunch of dead patches. I explained our grass was kentucky bluegrass and comes up later, so you won't know within two weeks of the sprinklers being turned on. That, and, I have so much going on, I wasn't able to really keep track of the sprinklers until I noticed big patches of the yellow, dried grass. And wasn't I paying them for this service? Due to sprinklers being placed in the wrong location on the install (i.e. a cheek wall obstructing the path of water, parts of the grass that weren't even covered at all), sprinklers being adjusted incorrectly and missing big portions of our lawn (which I paid for as an additional service call, they adjusted the sprinklers to miss almost the whole area in front of our curb AND both sides of the front of the house) and other issues.... I didn't know until recently but I kept paying to try to fix the errors created by technicians. When I asked customer service what that suggested I do to repair or try to fix my dead grass that we lost because of the sprinklers not being turned on properly, they suggested I contact a landscaping company. They didn't care that my grass is dead and looks horrible in some places. Not very friendly. The experience felt like when someone cuts you off in traffic, almost hits your car, and then gives you the middle finger. Two stars only because the last technician was really knowledgeable and knew what he was talking about. Although it was frustrating to find out that the grass was dying because of issues caused by the people who worked on the sprinklers, I would rather know the truth. So kudos to him for being honest about what went wrong and what needed to be fixed (again). read more

Gave the guys 4 opportunities (I have a contract with them). They initialized the system and winterized it, but summer season came by and apparently they broke something, because the system does not work at all. Every time they came to my house, they said that they needed to come back because they did not have the necessary equipment, 4 times! Their suggestion? replace the whole system for something newer, are you kidding me? Now, middle of summer, my grass is dying and need to get in contact with another company and fight with them to get my contract money back. read more

I really tried to give this company a chance. Ironically, they first contacted ME after I posted a need for irrigation repair on Thumbtack back in April, '17. They were very prompt and friendly when they came for an estimate on what turned out to be a cut irrigation line by TWC cable installation. I paid them $80 to tell me what was wrong with my system, and they said they would be back in the next couple days to fix the issue for $270. They never returned, nor did they ever call again. Meanwhile, my yard is a mud pit from the leak. A month later, I finally called them to find out what the delay was, and the assistant told me that the supervisor would have to write up an estimate and would email me very soon. I even gave her a hard time and said I really, really want to get this resolved and can I just wait to speak to the supervisor now? She said no and promised me he would respond within the next couple days. A month and a half later, I've already had the system repaired by another company for much cheaper, and I still haven't received a response or an estimate from the company. I hate that I ever wasted my time with Tanz sprinklers. They really need to get more organized if they're trying to establish themselves in the Charlotte market. read more

We selected Tanzer Sprinklers to do our in-ground watering system. These are the facts about the Installation. 1. The workmen came on time. 2. They did the entire front and back yard, and installed the control equipment. The work was all done very neatly, very respectfully to our plants, fences, else. 3. Everything worked, as intended. No leaks, no non-operating heads or lines. 4. The workers were very polite and grateful for the modest lunch and cold drinks my wife gave them. I recommend Tanzer Sprinklers, and I recommend you also read my words below: Summary: There are a lot of talented people in this area surrounding NYC. We all pay high taxes and we pay for expensive properties. The commute is long and else. It can be frustrating. But we chose to be here, and whatever frustrations we have, it does not give us a right to be one-sided, rude, & pompous to service people; but a lot of a lot around here are exactly that. If you want the best from your service providers, give them your best. If You treat service people like dirt, you're going to get dirty. read more

We had the worst experience this past year with Greg Tanzer's service. We received a late date/time to turn on our sprinklers this year which would have been okay except the person they sent didn't know what he was doing so he didn't turn the system on and instead did his best to break it. He didn't report back that he couldn't do the job so it wasn't until we called and notified them that we got another tech a few weeks after that. The second tech was completely confused about the state of our system and thought it wasn't fixable until we explained we were long time customers who never had an issue. He then tried to fix it and told us the problem was created by the first guy they sent and that we were all set. Our grass was in bad shape in one area of our yard so we tested the zones on our own. In August we realized one zone didn't work. When we called for service they told we already used our annual service by having a second person out this year. Once again not realizing they had to send two people to turn on our sprinklers and the second service was due to their own incompetent staff. It was a lot of work and not an experience we wish to repeat so after 5+ years we will find a new vendor. read more

Installed new sprinklers at our home about 2 years ago. There was problem with the installation and our basement flooded. Tanzer repaired and cover cost of basement damage. Called recently for maintenance. Took about 2-3 weeks to return call. Scheduled appointment 2 weeks out. On the day they were suppose to come, my husband was home and the front door was open. He went to the front to check if they have come and he saw a "sorry we missed you" note. Did they ring the doorbell once and run? They also no showed one our neighbors who had an appointment. We would not recommend using them. read more

I had sprinklers installed by them, I wasn't home for most of the install, my husband was, when I got home you could hardly tell they were there. Price was great! And twice a year I get my annual post card with a pre-scheduled date for turning on the sprinklers and shutting them down at the end of the year. I have too much on my mind to have to remember that too, so its nice With my referral, they do snow plowing for me at my place of business too. We just got over 2 feet of snow and the next day, all I see is black top everywhere! Don't know how they do it, but they certainly get the job done! These guys are the best! read more

Terrible Service! I have an annual contract with this company. I had a sprinkler head fail and part of my lawn dried out and completely died so I called them. It took them over a week to call me back and they gave me the run around to try to schedule a 10 minute appointment to change the sprinkler head. They could not schedule me for over a week out. Meanwhile my lawn is dead and drying out further. Not asking for miracles, just basic service to a loyal customer of over 10 years. They really gave me the run around. AVOID. See all these bad reviews about this company here and at other places! We made an appointment with Greg Tanzer Sprinklers to come and winterize/shut off the sprinkler system. We had to schedule the visit twice - the first time, they forgot to enter the appointment in their system. Second time, I was given a time window of 8-10am. I waited till 9.30am and called them to see what's going on. I was told by the operator that the person is on his way to my house. At 10.10am I called again when the person still didn't show up. I was told that the person came and left. Now imagine the scenario, I am in my living room looking out the window this whole time to see if the person shows up, and never saw anyone even pull into my driveway! When I challenged the operator that I never saw anyone show up, he told me that the person tried to call me before coming. So the story changed! I asked him what number he had for the appointment and yep, it's my number and I have my cell phone right in my hand all this time. He asked if I wanted to reschedule. I said no freakign way! You just wasted 2 hours of my time. read more

May 2016 - We had the worst experience of all with this company. Looking at their website you think you are getting a big company who will be responsive to their customers. Expect the opposite with their service. We had a person named Dan come to our house. While working he fired our Timer for which he informs my husband. Then he totally denies his fault when we contacted the company for it. A person named Justin from their service department starts communicating with us, via phone and email and says there is no fault of theirs. The company is now asking for $600+ to fix the problem. I am wondering if that's how they are in business, to break and then ask extra money to fix it. Please do yourselves a favor and do not do business with this company. We are getting a lawyer and suing this company so this behavior is not repeated with others. read more

the worst service ever, i am very loyal and do not like switching companies. however the are only good at opening and closing. if you need service good luck getting a call back (same problems 3 years in a row) then when tech gets there ,he does not have enough time 8 more appointment not right tools ect.. and wait for a call back when someone reads comments on ticket (probably once your grass and flowers are dead ) the most miss managed company I ever work with read more

My husband and I just bought a house in fair lawn not to long ago, and saw their logo on our sprinkler system. I don't know much about sprinklers, I actually don't know anything about sprinklers and the maintenance that comes with them. So I did a Google search and found them rather quickly. I didn't know what to ask them because I didn't know what was needed or necessary. I got in touch with someone right away. I told them that I just bought a house and saw their name on our sprinkler system and wanted to know if anything needed to be done. I gave them my address and they pulled an account right away. They verified my name and my husbands name and of course it didn't match the names on the account. (I mean I could of told them that) so they set up a new account for us. Since I didn't know anything about sprinklers they gave me brief summary of how it works the maintenance, and what the company actually does. Which was great! It cut my research time in half. They explained that the previous owner didn't "winterize"? Meaning there was still water left within the pipes, so if I didn't get the remaining water flushed out, when the temperature drops to below freezing the pipes could possibly break costing me thousands. $$$$ I got nervous because it's already cold out but they were kind an patient with me, they told me their always around that area and luckily for us we were able to make an appointment for the next day. I was super satisfied on how quick the process took and was a relief that it didn't hurt my pockets as bad as I thought it would so, Thank You Greg Tanzers!! read more
