We had a very disappointing experience with this company. We paid a $10,000 deposit to start building a garage. After receiving our deposit, the company significantly increased the price of the project to an amount we could no longer afford. We tried to discuss the situation in person at their office, hoping to find a solution, but instead we were treated disrespectfully. The owner raised his voice, yelled at us, and made the situation even more stressful. The document we signed was not a formal construction contract, yet we were left without our deposit and without the project moving forward. We filed a complaint with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC), but unfortunately we did not receive the help we expected. We also hired attorneys, which has only resulted in additional expenses while trying to resolve this matter. Our experience has been frustrating, financially draining, and extremely disappointing. I encourage anyone considering this company to carefully review all paperwork, make sure you have a detailed written contract, and fully understand the terms before paying a large deposit. read more

I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with the recent retaining wall replacement project completed by John Krause Construction (JKC) at my property. After reading positive reviews and receiving an estimate that, although over my budget, seemed reasonable for the work involved, I made the decision to hire JKC. Unfortunately, this has proven to be a significant mistake, and I am left extremely disappointed with both the quality of work and the overall experience. Here are the main issues I encountered: 1. Unprofessional Behavior: The crew exhibited unacceptable behavior while working on my property. Not only did I witness them disposing of bodily fluids on-site, but they were also disrespectful and dismissive. when I raised concerns no response was received. I now smell urine when entering and exiting my garage. 2. Unresponsive Ownership: I have attempted to reach out to the owner multiple times to address these concerns and resolve the issues, but my messages have been met with silence. This lack of communication is incredibly frustrating and has only added to my disappointment. The owner refused to speak on the phone since the owner was made aware of the call being recorded. 3. Property Damage: During the construction process, my property was left damaged in multiple areas. This included e.g., landscaping destruction, equipment damage. Personal crew members vehicles being driven through my yard leaving deep tire marks damage. 4. Subpar Quality of Work: Despite the high cost of the project, the final result does not meet the standards outlined in the estimate or contract. No proper grading was completed. Every time it rains pools of water sits in front and behind the wall. The response received was. "we have passed all inspections.  There will be some water pooling while it is settling still. Plus the fact of the hard rain today, it will happen." The wall has been completed for 2 months and the same thing happens when it rain. Given the extensive problems, stress and anxiety I have faced. Horribly unprofessional company that will bribe you to take down negative reviews. No communication. Prices and quotes change. They just don't show up when scheduled. Awful. read more

Update to my first review: our project supervisor Tammy called me after I posted my first review and said she wanted to find out what went wrong and how to make it better. I went through the whole story and told her I appreciated her reaching back out but that there wasn't anything that could be done to fix it. She then asked if I would take $400 off my last check to them and take the review down. Trying to buy people off just so a bad review gets taken down is unacceptable behavior for a business. Most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. We signed our contract and paid our deposit on 2/26/21 and we're told that our French drain install would be done in 2-4 weeks. We just hit our 3 month mark and it FINALLY got done after needing to be "fit in between other jobs to get done". The communication is non-existent. I have had to email or call the office to ask for updates every 1-2 weeks because no one was giving us any updates or information. We signed a contract to add drywall to our project for $3,200 but over 2 weeks later we were told there was "a clerical error" and the drywall was actually $7,000. When I explained to john that we already signed the contract for the $3,200 he said that per our original contract, because we didn't pay that in full the added contract was void. I looked over both those contracts and it doesn't say that anywhere. We ended up just dropping the drywall from the project. When we finally got a project manager, the communication issues did not change. We were told our project would be done may 7, 8, 9. The day before they were supposed to start she called and said they were not coming that weekend because Mother's Day was Sunday so they would come the following week the 14, 15, 16. I had to text and call Tammy every few hours to get updates because no one was telling us anything. The crew just never showed Friday and when I finally got some info out of Tammy on Saturday she said they wouldn't be finished until Monday or Tuesday. Then come Tuesday they never showed again! At one point on Tuesday I spoke with her on the phone and she was very rude, constantly interrupting me when I was speaking. The lack of communication and rudeness starts from the top though. I emailed the office on may 5 asking to have john Krause call me to discuss the speed bumps we keep hitting and I still have yet to get a call from him. I will say that the work itself was done well. The French drain was installed and the concrete was smoothed well over it so we are happy with the work, but I would not use this company again because of the rest of the issues. read more

I started using John Krause Construction about 4 years ago when I purchased my first home in Lusby, MD. and have been going back to him for various jobs ever since, ranging from fencing, to gutter replacements, drainage grading, and many other jobs over the years. The reason I keep going back is simple. I found that he provides high quality work with affordable and competitive pricing against the competition. Every job I have had done has been completed on schedule (usually before) and with zero issues. His staff have been knowledgeable and friendly on the occasions I have interacted with them. John and his crew did a basement remodel for my family. The guys were great! the work was impeccable. They helped us get what we wanted on our budget with a few extras, Including a bar. THIS IS NOT A REPUTABLE COMPANY! BEWARE! John provided low ball estimates (eyeballing without really measuring) then tried up sell by bundling more and more projects into the initial project. When we said we only wanted to do the initial project, they stopped being responsive, then sent another crew out for another estimate. Why if John Krause already gave us one? Then they said they needed to create a contract, which we never received. When I followed up, they said they sent it, which was not true. Even if they had, why didn't they follow up after a day or so when they didn't hear from us? They knew we were anxious to start. They must be very busy, but if the company continues on its present course, the work will dry up quickly. Bottom line - with the number of good contractors out there, do your homework and don't risk your hard earned money with on this shell game. read more

This is a Lead Certified Contractor and he is not reputable and I have a signed contract and they deposited by $900.00 (1/3) of the contact check and now the price has gone to 8500.00 30 days later. The contract was signed on March 15,2016 and here it is April 14, 2016 and they say I asked for changes which is a lie. This is a perfect example of contractors who take advantage of their Lead Certification with the state. read more
