I found John Kowan on Yelp, spoke w Debbie, who was professional and friendly, and coordinated: a tentative tenting; over the phone estimate; and an appointment for John Kowan himself to stop by and discuss details. John just left and I couldn't give a stronger recommendation. We determined I didn't need a tenting right now, but what to look for and what to do in the future. I respect a business that is out to serve their customers garnering loyalty through integrity over short term gains by doing unnecessary work. The 5-star reviews here tell it all. We had at least four or five other estimates, but the Kowans made our decision easy. John was very knowledgeable and not hard sell at all. The estimate was quite reasonable.This small company was a delight to work with, and that's saying something considering it's the extermination of termites. We had never undergone tenting, and John and Debbie held our hand and helped each step along the way. We requested additional bags, and they were on our doorstep the next day. This company fumigated my home over a year ago. Once entering the deal with Kowan, a different company, third party company came out to tent my home. No one from Kowan around ever. I specifically informed them that I had aluminum roofing vents all over the roof and asked that they avoid stepping on them. Well, with the recent rains came leaking. A roofing company was called to investigate. They informed me that all the vents on the roof are bent in "as if they have been stepped on." Obviously instructions and warnings are not heeded. Beware as the contract absolves them, or attempts to, from liability. If you decide to use them make sure to inspect your home for damage and immediately call them on it. read more

This review is not based upon me using them, but just a great interaction and conversation regarding termite fumigation and repairs. I was in a bind to get my new home fumigated before move-in. I had already had a termite inspection and report made up from another company and had gotten the recommendation to call John. Even though he was booked solid and unable to do an inspection for me on time, he offered to look at my initial inspection report. Based off of that and the price the other company had offered, he recommended I use them since he wasn't able to match their price. He did say he could come close, but the time frame would have been difficult because we were still in escrow. So many others would have tried to bad talk the competition or hype up that a higher price means better work. Scheduled the service to our convenience, explained everything completely so there were no surprises. Advised us about the TPD program to have alarm system brought in. This was wonderful as not only the inconvenience of packing up food & having to be out of the house for a few days my biggest concern was the worry of our home being broken into during tenting. TPD set up alarm just before tent went on, then armed remotely. While alarm is armed all patrol are linked in so if anyone attempted to enter the house they would have been greeted by our fine police force! Great service, reasonable price, minimal damage to plants (expected) during tenting & now we should be set for a long while to not worry about termite damage. I called them this year for an annual pest control. I was told the owner would be coming in to do it this time. I was a little worried if he would be doing the same good job as the last one. Then he told me the last one was his trainee and he was the one who trained him. Sergio is still with the company. Anyway, the owner did the fantastic job. Not exactly helpful nor responsive. I called to get a quote for which I was told someone would need to stop by the property for measurements, etc. Since I hadn't heard back in several days, I called to followup. The person on the other line didn't even have my property on file. They then called back and said someone came out that same day and did the measurements. I was expecting a call the following day to get my estimate and no call-back. Well... it's Friday and they're closed on the weekend. The guys went through every drawer in our bedroom. My underwear drawer was thoroughly looked through and so was my husbands. They say they are looking for food or medicine but in plain sight on my dresser they left a bag of wheat thins and a piece of chocolate that I had forgot to throw away but they made sure to go through my jewelry box and conveniently a necklace is missing. We had our house tented, and we had treatment for ground termites as well. The conversations, estimates, punctuality and overall results were as good as it gets. This company is the best. If you need to get your house fumigated I strongly recommend them. They have a much better price than the competitors and as it's a small business, you get personal attention from the owner. They are professional, courteous and provide excellent service. After my fumigation, they returned my key to me, and then I accidentally lost it in a public parking lot. Someone found it and called the company (I had forgotten to remove their nametag) and they went down there personally to pick it up and return it to me. That extra step that they took saved me a lot of headache, and their honesty and willingness to go the extra mile for a customer made my day.
