My first pair of John Fluevog Shoes, was a pair of high suede black shoes with silver buckles. I looked cool & people loved them - got lots of compliments. This was in the early 90s. They looked like a pair of shoes the Stray Cats band would wear. I would later on end up buying a pair of patent leather shoes. Not exactly what I was looking for but they were patent leather, which is what I really wanted. However they were super pointy at the front - the kind of shoes one would only wear in the Safety Dance video by the group - Men Without Hats. https://youtu.be/AjPau5QYtYs Remember that weird acid mind trip video!? Gosh the 80s had so many oddly weird songs that became hits & we grooved to them! Looking back now - it's actually quite cringey & I won't admit to which songs I liked ... I'll never tell! https://youtu.be/nTizYn3-QN0 However, these dudes put out some fabulous songs & videos & I have to admit, I ended up getting into the blazer style because of them! Anyway, I never wore those ridiculously pointed shoes outside at all - too unpractical & I would have been tripping over myself on every block cause the tip would have been catching every rise in the pavement. After being heavily embarrassed (he made me joke of the year) by a nephew who was rummaging threw my closet years ago & found my 'pointy shoes,' I finally said - I gotta get rid of them. I actually took them to the downtown location, handed them to a sales person & said - they are still new, unworn & I have zero desire for them & then left. I didn't ask for any refund or credit I just wanted them gone like a bad rash! I had contemplated actually handing them over to the founder John Fluevog, who I'd occasionally see downtown. He's hard not to miss - tall & fashionable. Fluevog shoes are occasional - parties, tea party, weddings, costume party, or just plain wanting to stand out - cool like dat - while you're out & about. Keep in mind that these shoes can hurt the feet depending on how long you have them on for. We're not talking Nike Air Max quality but rather firm & solid type wear - so keep that in mind if your feet tend to be on the sensitive side. I mean it's like being on the Strip in Vegas - one is just not going to walk the whole Strip wearing red bottoms ... right!?! Fluevog shoes are classic fashionable wear - so if you're wanting to stand out & make a scene - get here & get stylin'! read more

I don't often review stores, but I stopped in here while I was visiting Vancouver. The staff was so incredibly helpful, pulled a ton of shoes for me a different sizes because I was so excited to be inside a John Fluevog store for the first time ever. They ended up helping me get a pair of shoes for pick up at the Gastown location, they truly went out of their way. And the shoes were on sale, so they were a great deal! Will absolutely stop by again next time I'm in Canada read more

I got my very first pair of John Fluevogs from this location last weekend. The store is on the bigger side, very clean, and well organized. They have a hand sanitizer right inside the front door that they ask you to use. The ladies who were working that day were very friendly and knowledgeable. I also truly appreciated the fact that they let me bring my puppy inside the store (I didn't want her to get stolen). I bought the Tutti in blue. Love the shoes very much!!! read more

Super disappointed with this brand! I love supporting local brands and own a few pairs of Fluevogs shoes. The quality this season was horrifying. Glue smudged on the edges of one pair I tried on, zippers were only zipping half way even after ten minutes of fiddling with them. One pair I absolutely loved!! was going to buy them but, while trying them on and tying the shoes the laces broke on both shoes! The quality of shoe laces is horrible. It was so awkward because the employee tried telling me that because of the impact and the way I was tying the shoes that's why the laces ripped. Finding excuses that it's not the shoe laces fault even though the shoe laces are made for the purpose to be tide up, the laces should handle some pressure, especially when trying them on the first try. Am I not right?! Anyways, it was such a mess. I just wanted to leave the store. A few days later I found myself still thinking about the shoes because they were on sale for $249 from $399. I thought to myself, you know the shoe laces obviously can be replaced, too bad the store doesn't carry extra shoe laces (apparently). So feeling a bit bad about breaking the laces I decided to buy the shoes. I called in to put them on hold only to find out the tag on the shoes was gone!! According to an employee the shoes weren't on sale! So...let me get this straight, the same pair of shoes I tried on cost their regular price, the shoe laces are ripped and they still have them in the store for sale WITHOUT any discount despite broken shoe laces?! Never in my life I've had to experience so much disaster with a shoe company.. so much for supporting a "high end" shoe boutique. More like overpriced ALDO. Disappointed but, will be looking online for similar style of boots to buy elsewhere. Not sure I'm interested in supporting this business any longer as well. read more

My favourite of the two stores in Vancouver by far. Ben helped me with my first ever pair of Fluevogs and they are the perfect fit. I walked out of there feeling confident that I got the right shoe and the right size for my foot shape. Ben really took the time to get a bunch of different sizes for me and looked at the shoes while I was walking in them to let me know what he thought I should do (are they too narrow for my foot, too small, do they pinch in certain areas etc etc etc). He also asked if I wanted to try on a shoe I would never normally buy, just for fun - which I loved! I appreciate Fluevologists that are honest about the shoes when it comes to sizing, and never felt that I was just a number at this store. So thank you Ben, now I'm super snobby and will only come see you!! read more

I love granville store . The moment we walked into this store 5 months ago. Ben acknowledged us right away and followed with excellent service. I call this " my store " I bought all my fluevog shoes from granville store. Very friendly very helpful staff. I always recommended to my friends and collegue. I have a wide feet and it's very comfortable to wear. I always tell my friends and collegue to go and buy shoes to " my store " . :) read more

Love the store in Gastown, but need to get easy parking on my way to work, so stopped in at the granville location. Didnt see the shoe I came for so asked one of the staff working, he didnt know what I was describing, so I showed him online. He basically told me I couldnt buy the shoe because of my ankle limp, and that they were too unstable for me, and barely let me try it one, and only one of them.... I've been waiting to get this sandle for a couple months now, but super disappointed in trying to purchase it now. While I appreciate him trying to look out for my health interests, which I'm aware of, it would be nice not to make a client feel so uncomfortable. Why wouldnt he be interested in my business? Couldn't locate my shoe, I showed it, he wouldn't let me try it on, I had to ask, basically wouldn't let me buy it. Love the brand, but customer service lacking. read more

I said this about the other store as well, but know that this smaller JF shop is the original! I am glad I stumbled into the smaller one first, because all the color, shapes and beauty were overwhelming enough in the lesser quantity, and I think I may have really gone overboard if I had gone into the bigger one first. So excited they also have a Chicago one--can't wait for next Chicago trip to check out that store. read more

* Resists alkali, water, acid, fatigue and Satan * Ok, I'm not cool. I'm not hip. I'm not trendy. Or whatever word Urban Dictionary would use as good synonyms for cool, hip, and trendy. For the men's shoes at Fluevog I find myself thinking, "What the?!?!?!" for about 99% of them. I mean some look like Aladdin's slippers with toes that point up way too much for my liking. Others have random patches of colour that just don't make sense to my conservative boring self. But I really like the quality of the construction, the fact that he is a local designer, and that he tries to use green practices as best as possible. So I searched out that 1% that don't make me cringe at the thought of wearing them. The pair I got here has served me really well. Many shoes nowadays wear out way too quickly. But these have really held up nicely, and clearly will be able to be maintained easily for a long long time. You've just got to appreciate what it says on the soles, "Resists alkali, water, acid, fatigue and Satan." Now THAT is a nice promise! read more

Incredibly rude staff. I went shoe shopping with a friend and was insulted by the sales staff for wearing inferior dress shoes. They suggested that I try on some shoes, to which I replied "I only want one pair of dress shoes, and my ____s are nice enough." They replied, "Ppft! Sure, I guess you could call that nice," and then the other clerks laughed at me. When I see people wearing Fluevogs, I assume they have great taste in shoes and poor personal character. read more

Had I more money, I'd own more Fluevogs. It's as simple as that. I recently bought a pair of the Radio BBC boots from Jody at the Granville store, and I love them. They were pretty rough to break in, and my heels weren't really happy. That was mostly just because I hadn't owned a high quality pair of leather shoes before, and didn't know how to soften them up properly. I stopped back in the shop, and they were happy to give me tips and tricks, and now my boots feel wonderful! I feel good knowing that Fluevogs are designed and built here in Vancouver. They're a real local success story. read more

Don't buy the hype. The shoes are made overseas and the quality is hit and miss. I had a pair of $250 boots from here that lasted 7 months of occasional wear before both heel cups broke and the store wouldn't repair them despite the boots still being in "warranty". They were well maintained and the uppers leather was in great shape, but it didn't matter. They preach great customer service but that only seems to hold true while you're buying another pair. read more

Their shoes are cool and good looking. I bought a pair of Reynolds in green color about 2 weeks ago and it was worn for 4 times.then I just clean it with a damp cloth. surprisingly the color faded. now it doesn't look good at all and i don't now what to do with it. I'm so disappointed by their shoes. The shoes is poorly made. read more

I have a Fluevog addiction, both for the shoes and the store itself. The staff here are wonderful, patient people. I get the impression they genuinely like working here and care about whether customers leave with shoes that they love. There is a reason Fluevog has such a loyal following in Vancouver, aside from being a local designer: Fluevog makes offbeat, unique, but infinitely wearable shoes that last longer than most in the same price range. I walked by the Granville location a few weeks after I moved here, and didn't dare go in, knowing it would awaken The Visa Monster. My longing eventually got better of me, and The Visa Monster has been alive and well ever since. I can go in this store, look around for 30 minutes, and try on 10 pairs of shoes in different sizes, and I am not made to feel like I am being a bother for making sure I really do love the $500 boots I'm about to buy. Fluevog also offers a few extras that I really appreciate: For us wider-calved ladies ("muscular" as they say, although I'd like to know where said muscles are hiding), many of the boots can be stretched to accommodate our calves, free of charge! I had this done a few weeks ago to a pair of Radio PRIs, and I couldn't be happier. There is also an eight-month warranty on shoes. I'm not exactly sure what that covers (manufacturing defects, I assume), but it's nice to know they stand behind the work of their factories. If a certain size in a particular colour is unavailable and you can try it on in another colour, the staff will order in the shoes from any other location in Canada (or at least they have for me). A note about Fluevog sizing: Their sizes to vary, but often fit a 1/2 to a full size smaller than your regular shoe size. Your feet are not suddenly large, Fluevogs are just small. read more

I love this store, and I call it "My Store " because this is where I bought all and will be buying more from this store. Met jack and Ben acknowledged us when we enter the store, and they are both friendly. I bought my first Fluevog 1 year ago or so. Unfortunately! My Husband bumped into my car six months ago. needless to say I ding him for 9 pairs of Fluevog shoes. My Husband has 3 pairs of Fluevog. My husband have 3 pairs of Fluevog. November 18, was our Manager's Birthday. I went to Granville store to get a gift card last Friday. Yesterday, I was in the store with my Manager and our Educator, they both bought a pair of new style shoes ( Prestige and Shiloh ) I picked up another pair of shoes ( Sashay ) that Ben and Jack ordered for me from Calgary last week and arrive less than a week. I introduce my Manager and Educator to Patrick and Sara. I also thank Patrick for having the Appreciation Day! few weeks ago. It was a very nice sparkling wine, accompany with cheeses, veg with dip and crackers It was very nice gestures. We had so much fun yesterday, Sara helped us taking the photo of our feet show casing the Fluevog shoes. Five star rating for everyone at Fluevog Granville Store. Thank you for acknowledging us. I love, love, love Fluevog shoes. read more

I love Fluevog shoes...they cost an arm and a leg, but last forever. I stepped into this store and it was packed. Literally...women were sniping at each other. Husbands were trying to fetch sizes for their wives/girlfriends/partners. I stood for a moment and observed the insanity. WHAT WAS GOING ON?! Then I saw it: SAMPLE SALE I know what that means...brutality. When I worked in a luxury goods corporation, sample sales were something I loved and hated. I'll come back during the week when it's less crazy. read more

I'm a Fluevog fan! I have coveted these crazy shoes since I was a teenager taking trips across to the Big City on the sea bus, and staring in the store window, thinking about how I would love a pair of those chunky shoes with the fancy swirl on the side (old school style 90's Fluevogs). Fast forward to 2007. I just got my first REAL FULL-TIME job in my line of work, and I wanted to treat myself to something special (let's just forget about that car I bought for a moment). I stopped in one day after a day in the field, wearing hiking boots (muddy), carharts, and a gore-tex jacket, so not the trendiest girl on the block. But I was treated with respect and had a lovely chat with the fellow that was working there. I vowed to be back after my next paycheck. I had scoped out a couple pairs I was in love with. Sure enough, a couple weeks later I came in, dressed nicer since it was the weekend, but still relatively poor and not wearing anything special, I just happened to be cleaner. I was still treated super well, and had someone bringing me a number of pairs to try out. Since I have very sensitive feet, I had to wear them around the store for a good 20 minutes to be sure I was happy with them. No worries, everyone was patient, and helpful, and just so nice. I made my purchase. Some shiny red Malibrans. I still love them to this day. I have since bought another pair at last year's Fluevog Day celebrations at this location, and despite being busy they again were so wonderful to me, and I was even given an extra dust bag for my first pair that didn't get one (they were a new thing they started that year) for free, and toe pads to cushion my feet. I stop in to this location a couple times a year just to try what is new and hope that maybe one day they will have a pair of boots that actually fit my large calves (no luck yet). The staff are always great, even if they know I don't intend to buy anything. I am always greeted with a smile, no matter what I am wearing, and the staff love to hear your stories about your Fluevogs and any visits to their other locations. The quality of the shoes are amazing and they really are comfortable. You may be put off by the price, but they stand behind their products, which are ethically made and made to last (and resist Satan). They even have a line of vegan shoes for those that prefer leather-free footwear. Go give Fluevog a try if you haven't yet! They even have some very suave men's shoes out right now, that I think Marc would approve of (less of the crazy, more of the sexy). read more

This place is so "Vancouver" that it is almost uncanny. The service (thanks Ben!) was excellent, the shoes are extremely well made and the maintenance they advise and offer is incredible. We were helped into a pair of shoes I know Mr. J will love to the end of his days (in fact, he might be wearing them at that point that is how well made they are). The price is steep, super steep so keep that in mind. also, for some reason the men's dress shoes have next to 0 traction on wet surfaces. if you live in Vancouver, that's kind of a big deal. Mr. J has slipped twice (that I have personally seen) since buying these. Clearly only nice day shoes. read more

I love these shoes. I've started a collection & have 3 pairs (one pair found at a 2nd hand store for $30!!). They are the best quality shoes on the market & they stand behind their product. Did I mention comfort? You CAN stand in their 3 inch heels for hours. Seriously. Add to this - recently bought a new pair on Vogs online. There was an issue with them & they replaced them immediately - no questions asked. As it should be! :) Happy customer! Check out their online sales - they happen pretty regularly & they rock! read more

#30daysofyelp 23/30 Beautiful shoes. When I first saw John Fluevog shoes few years back, I wasn't too keen on their heels. But now, I am find them so appealing and unique. They are bit on the expensive side but it's all worth it. The stitching, the leather, the styles all seems top notch. Beauty! P.S. Eeeek... I may be caught in this time zone thing. Hopefully not!. read more

Came in here for a little spree with my daughter; Looking for special occasion shoes, to wear with a vintage look 1920's dress. Found with ease , and she usually struggles to fit her non-standard shaped feet. We left with a pair for her, a pair for me, and a bonus pair of boots for her. All pairs are gorgeous, and comfortable. The 5 stars here is for the sales associate , Vanessa, who helped us. She was patient, professional , friendly and amazingly helpful. We were not rushed, had many options. She made the shopping session fun. Thanks Vanessa! Bonus: The store is dog friendly. So we could chill, and take our time and have our pooch hang out with us. read more

I feel really let down by the quality of these shoes. Two sets of shoes and one pair of boots that fell apart way to soon. Once again, a five star experience at my local Fluevog store on Granville Street! Not only can I ALWAYS find the perfect pair of shoes/boots for ANY occasion and in my size (I wear a womens 11....the holy grail of womens sizes and impossible to locate in most shoe stores in Vancouver!) but I had the best experience buying them. Today I came into the store looking for a pair of shoes for a black tie event and I was feeling slightly unsure and stressed about it. Jessica took it upon herself to be my personal shopper and presented me with a multitude of amazing options, some of which I would have never picked on my own (but looked fantastic on!). I spend over an hour in the store and Jessica never tired of showing me more options, calling other stores for sizes and giving me great feedback. Best of all, Patrick and Ben, who were also working on the floor, joined in, gave their opinions and suggestions and overall made me feel like I was hanging out with a bunch of buds! They were super enthusiastic, friendly and utterly lovely! I left feeling super happy and confident with my purchase. I hate shopping and avoid it whenever I can....however, Fluvoeg is always a great experience! Great shoes, great quality, tall women inclusive, BEST staff!!! Five stars all around! read more

Except the fact that I really like the shoes, everything else is just terrible. The shoes is poorly made, you can see messy stitch everywhere and the leather is damaged after I check it at home. But this is not the worst part, their customer service is so terrible that even makes me think the company want their employee to be rude and useless. The reason why I said it is because when I was in the store, there were 4 staffs inside the store and I literally had to come to them every time I needed to ask something. When I talk to them they were impatient and give me these look like it was surprising to them that I'm still bothering them. I'm the only customer in the store! Their online customer service is also dead silence after I asked about my damaged shoes so I'm not returning the shoes, but this is the last pair of shoes I bought in fluevog. read more

Posted to Fluevog Facebook page November 6, 2014 no response to this posting was received On February 6, 2015 I dropped off the boots at the store with all the paperwork of emails etc including this statement and just said I needed them out of my life. they were a visual reminder of what a fool I was to buy Fluevog footwear. NO one followed up Shoddy Boots from Fluevog on Granville On November 27, 2013 I bought a pair of size 9 Living Gusset Ankle Boots at the Granville Street store in Vancouver I wore them for a week and noticed the left boot was loose around the ankle and saw the zipper was coming out of stitching at top - over an inch deep. Long story short - the manager offered to have them fixed - I had to complain to head office to have them replaced. After a week of wear they wanted to fix them?!!! The boots were replaced on Dec 17, 2013. By January 2014, after 3 weeks of wear the same problem of the zipper coming apart (very trendy with fuzzies - problem is the seam comes apart because its a stoopid design) occurred on both boots. So, I simply stopped wearing them as was heartbreaking and didn't want to deal with the awful service at the store concerning these boots. I was so ticked off that I put them in the closet and left them there for the last 9 months, until 10 days ago, October 27, 2014. Figured I'll take them to a cobbler, surely they can do something. The is a local very respected establishment in South Cambie area - they kept them until today (November 9) and refunded my money for repair. Why? The design is so flawed they cannot guarantee the stitching will hold, as there is no fabric to stitch it to. Remember, trendy fuzzy zipper, looks great, doesn't work. And it would cost me the price of the boots to have the zippers completely replaced. Mr. Fluevog, I want my money back, with interest. In fact, I want my money, interest and a hamper full of food to console myself with. Expensive stuff. I wore these birthday boots for less than a month. Have had them nearly a year. I'm 334. 88 out of pocket and very very ticked off. Beware Fluevog products, shoddy products and shoddy service. read more

My friend and I came into the Granville Street store this past Sunday. We usually go to the location in Gastown and we always have the best time while browsing all of the funky, eccentric shoes. This experience, however, was very different. The two young men working in there seemed very snooty and didn't crack a smile, once. It made my friend (who was buying shoes) and I feel uncomfortable and we couldn't wait to get out of the store. I love John Fluevog as a company and I will continue to support, however these two employees need a reality check and perhaps some customer service training. read more

Though not fashion-obsessed or a fidgety trendsetter, I get the vibe of styles that appeal to me when I see them, and if you're looking for something snazzy to wear on your feet you owe yourself a look into John Fluevog's store. His women's shoes are designed with lots of eccentricity and whimsical style, but I wouldn't know a thing about that as I'm a male customer! Fortunately, there are designs in men's shoes that range from ultra-business-cut and dressy to preppy to hipsterish to everyday-casual to workmanlike. Bold styling cues like leathery whorls and striking colours adorn many a model, but that's not to say that everything here is designed as a "look-at-me statement" - often there's just the right cut, or the addition of an original twist or detail that makes a pair of shoes look really cool. I recently bought a pair of dress shoes that fit wonderfully and really feel well-made, but I have also put lots of city mileage on a casual suede-topped pair that have shown few signs of deterioration. Yes, they are expensive, but built to last ("Resists alkali, water, acid, fatigue and Satan!") and with unique style. read more

Gold star to the staff at this particular store. I got such great service from them when the shoe I wanted was not available anywhere in Canada. When you have 4 pairs sitting in the closet it kind of goes without saying that I'm a big fan of Mr. Fluevog's shoe's. A boot that pushes $400 with stacked cardboard heals that are disguised by a leather look? I bought my last Fluvog boot.

Don't get me wrong, the shoes are awesome, but don't buy them from this location. I went in here with my girlfriend who bought two pairs of lovely shoes. They offered her excellent customer service. That's all great. The problem was that I was wearing a pair of **** dress shoes, which cost me about $100, and which I was very happy with. They proceeded to make fun of me for shopping at ****. For 45 minutes. I insisted that I only needed one pair of "nice shoes," to which they replied, " you mean some other shoes than the ones you're wearing?" I might not be fashionable, but before that day, I would have loved to have owned a pair of Fluevog shoes. But I'd rather go barefoot than buy them from these snarky bitches. By all means, you should buy a pair of Fluevogs. They'll be your favorite shoes. Just buy them from their main location or shop online. read more

*one star for service on Granville Fluevog on Granville Street = worst shopping experience ever. I went in to buy a pair of vogs I've wanted for months. Found them at the Granville Street store, found the sales people then they stood there as if they didn't see me holding a shoe. As I approached, one turned around and walked away, the other literally looked the other way. As the anger set in, my boyfriend had to go to the counter and ask someone to get me a size. They came back and said they didn't have the size and walked away. Shocked, he had to speak to the person again to ask if the Gastown location had the right size. She called, got off the phone and proceeded to attend other customers. He approached her and asked again if the other location had the right size. She said yes. To say we were disappointed in the service is a tremendous understatement. I was so angry I wanted to forget these shoes and never deal with Fluevog again. Luckily we had a few stops before getting to Gastown to cool down. We walked in and the lady who helped us was kind, not pushy and restored my faith in this designer. The shoes fit, we paid and she even slipped in some insoles! I don't know what the situation was with the employees on Granville, I know my hair wasn't at its best and I may have been slightly sweaty (it was a hot day), but if someone walks into a store, especially one that sells one of a kind products, you want to provide an all around great experience for whoever comes your way, otherwise, as the Granville employees did, you present the company as pompous and selective leaving potential lifelong customers with a bad taste in their mouth. Thank you to the Gastown staff for their professional and welcoming approach, turning a bad experience into one you'd expect from a company like Fluevog. read more
