Doctor was helpful, wait time wasn't bad, receptionist Cindy was rude and unprofessional. Don't…read moreeven bother here if you don't have insurance. I recently had been added to my husbands policy and did not yet have my ID card. I couldn't get a word in over the phone without being cut off or interrupted. She basically told me not to come in! Extremely rude to NEW patients. I will not return just because of how I was treated. Not sure if the doctor reads these reviews but if he does GET A NEW RECEPTIONIST

I went to Dr.Armel based on a Doctor referral due to a testicular tumor and my experience with him…read morewas not pleasant. Upon arrival the staff was nice and my wait time was not long however while I was waiting in the patient room all I keep hearing was "new patient" "new patient" which told me they are trying to make a good impression however everyone in the waiting room who were waiting before me have not been seen yet. The Exam: Dr. Armel came into the room and said "I need to examine you", so of course I let him do his less than 10 second exam. He did not do a proper assessment, did no palpitations and there was an ultra sound machine there and switch on in which he could of examined further. He wanted to look at my results from Yale in regards to my ultrasound and he had such a hard time getting into the Epic system and I noticed his lack of use of a computer. He was clicking icons and going back and forth copying and pasting the same link over and over again. We was embarrassed for his lack of preparation and asked my girlfriend and I to leave the room so we didn't have to watch him fumble on the PC. I was called back in and he made his prognosis and my girlfriend who is a third year nursing student asked some very good questions using medical terminology and he had an ego and did not want to answer the questions and he seemed to get agitated as if he was being challenged on his expertise. If you tell a patient they have caner I would think questions are going to be asked. Not once did he explain the procedure or any possible options etc. He was not informative and it seemed he was all about collecting the payment for the surgery rather than looking out for my best interest. Very poor bedside manner and used the word UMMM. quite a lot. I did not see confidence in his abilities but rather arrogance and lack of passion. I would not recommend anyone to this practice. Upon leaving the office said they would call me on Monday (after the weekend) and I did not receive a phone call. I have arranged for an appointment at the Smillow Cancer Center due to the glowing reviews of the Urologist surgeon there. Smillow quickly scheduled my visit and I look forward to meeting my new surgeon that based on the reviews will provided exceptional care. I would not put my life and treatment in Dr. Armel's hands.

Unfortunately I would never recommend Dr. Mao as a surgeon to perform blepharoplasty. If you are…read moreconsidering blepharoplasty you should see an oculoplastic surgeon/surgeon board certified in Ophthalmology. Dr. Mao's oversight cost me $40,000 in surgical repair fees ($15,000 if done through a less experienced surgeon) from THE BEST surgeon in the country that corrects these issues (lower lid retraction and entropion). The repair surgery involves a graft from the roof of my mouth being used on the back of my eyelid. It's not guaranteed it will even work because the damage to my eye is so extensive. I had been living in horrible discomfort as my lower eye lashes have been turned into my eye. Dr. Mao wasn't able to recommend a protective contact lens to ease the pain. Another surgeon I consulted with recommended it. It was a lifesaver. Immediately following my first surgery with Dr. Mao, I can see the lower lid of my left eye is pulled down. Sadly, nobody caught it at followup appointments until I brought it up. I was consistently told by Amanda that I looked good. Dr Mao performed a second surgery 3 wks post op to correct it, unfortunately only made it worse. One time I woke up and my eye was bleeding in the middle of the night. It was terrifying. After a 3rd surgery with no improvement, I decided to seek a specialist. PLEASE do not have anyone other than an experienced oculoplastic surgeon perform surgery on your eyes. And never have implants inserted into your tear troughs - no oculoplastic surgeon would recommend them. Initially I felt that Amanda was helpful and compassionate but in hindsight I believe she was gaslighting me. She kept telling me I looked great despite specialists telling me I needed grafts to fix the retraction. I never had access to Dr. Mao post op - only Amanda or Arissa. Everything went through Amanda. Dr. Mao's office has not offered any financial assistance towards the specialist repair surgery despite the damage done to my eye. I don't want anyone else to endure this extremely traumatic & costly experience. From my perspective it's important to choose a surgeon to perform the surgery that knows how to correct it should something go wrong.
