He was kind and respectful and, in fairness, previewed that he thought it might look nice to make my chin longer and larger. However, after the surgery, I was unhappy with the result, as I thought my chin was too long and wide and the implant became crooked. I also experienced a ton of swelling in my upper and midface as well as in my chin/jaw area. He was somewhat dismissive and thought that the asymmetry would be difficult to fix because of my underlying face asymmetry. Recently, I had a revision performed in Korea after looking at CT scans with a several different doctors. The implant shifted to the right and everyone agreed it was too large for my face. The doctor who performed the revision noted that it had actually slipped downward, while it typically would sit parallel to (not below) the bone of your chin. In addition to making my chin too long, I had puckering from the upper part of my chin where the recession actually wasn't fixed, as the implant had shifted downward. 7 days post-op, I have my old face shape back with the asymmetry resolved. I have a delicate, small chin that's in line with my original face, but with no recession. The swelling is way better than the first time - some in the chin, some chipmunk cheeks, but nothing around my midface or eyes that I can tell. The doctor who performed the revision attributed this to the pocket being cut too large the first time. I know that Dr. Price has gotten great results for other patients, but I wanted to provide this review as I know genioplasty is a commonly desired surgery for young Asian women. This doctor may not be the right choice if you have that profile. Edit: I hesitated to say this, but I would also encourage young women in my position to look at Asian doctors. I think part of what went awry here is that Western beauty standards are not the same - here it's considered good for even women to have a strong jaw or a mature look. As people in my community know, for Asian women, neither of those things is positive. But tastes differ. Know what you want and communicate it, but there are benefits to working with people who know our culture.

And if the skin on your lips are peeling and the advice you get is to use Vaseline I suggest you try a different toothpaste. Many have an ingredient that causes some people's lips to peel. Sensydyne is recommended by my dentist and no peeling skin on lips. The staff at the 'new' office is excellent.

If you are…read moreconsidering blepharoplasty you should see an oculoplastic surgeon/surgeon board certified in Ophthalmology. Dr. Mao's oversight cost me $40,000 in surgical repair fees ($15,000 if done through a less experienced surgeon) from THE BEST surgeon in the country that corrects these issues (lower lid retraction and entropion). The repair surgery involves a graft from the roof of my mouth being used on the back of my eyelid. It's not guaranteed it will even work because the damage to my eye is so extensive. I had been living in horrible discomfort as my lower eye lashes have been turned into my eye. Dr. Mao wasn't able to recommend a protective contact lens to ease the pain. Another surgeon I consulted with recommended it. It was a lifesaver. Immediately following my first surgery with Dr. Mao, I can see the lower lid of my left eye is pulled down. Sadly, nobody caught it at followup appointments until I brought it up. I was consistently told by Amanda that I looked good. Dr Mao performed a second surgery 3 wks post op to correct it, unfortunately only made it worse. One time I woke up and my eye was bleeding in the middle of the night. It was terrifying. After a 3rd surgery with no improvement, I decided to seek a specialist. PLEASE do not have anyone other than an experienced oculoplastic surgeon perform surgery on your eyes. And never have implants inserted into your tear troughs - no oculoplastic surgeon would recommend them. Initially I felt that Amanda was helpful and compassionate but in hindsight I believe she was gaslighting me. She kept telling me I looked great despite specialists telling me I needed grafts to fix the retraction. I never had access to Dr. Mao post op - only Amanda or Arissa. Everything went through Amanda. Dr. Mao's office has not offered any financial assistance towards the specialist repair surgery despite the damage done to my eye. I don't want anyone else to endure this extremely traumatic & costly experience. From my perspective it's important to choose a surgeon to perform the surgery that knows how to correct it should something go wrong.
