Called for an appointment on 1/15. Was told the first available appointment was in July. I understand theyre busy, but the receptionist was downright nasty. So rude. I live 5 minutes for this office and will never step foot in this place. AVOID!!!!!! read more

A little background: I had been a happy patient of Dr. Savin's dermatology practice for about 20 years. I've sought advice from Dr. Savin's office for every little thing, from a mole I'd never noticed to an allergy I'd never experienced before. I continued visiting Dr. Savin's dermatology group even when I moved to Chicago 10 years ago. Everything changed when Dr. McFerren purchased this practice. Well, almost everything. In hushed tones, the good people who followed Dr. McFerren will tell you that things are OK, but different. They'll let you know that the Derm Group's nurse practitioner, Christina Young, is a godsend and wonderful with patients. They'll try to help you navigate the new normal with a doctor who doesn't have the same soft touch and bedside manner of the practice he purchased. If you decide to turn to the Derm Group for your medical care, be cautious: Dr. McFerren isn't the kind of doctor who will make you feel good about your care. If he doesn't think your medical concerns are worthy, he uses all the abrasive, clinical med-speak that you'd expect from a first-year intern. He doesn't like anyone who questions his judgment, which gives him blind spots if you bring him a concern outside his comfort zone. But most troublingly, he does his best to make you feel smaller and less knowledgeable about your concern than he is. His brand of arrogance is exactly what's wrong with healthcare in our country right now. If you can avoid working with Dr. McFerren, then by all means, come to this dermatology center. Even his staff agrees he's the weakest link in their practice, and the other people who work here are incredibly caring and thoughtful. But if you're stuck working with Dr. McFerren, sprint in the other direction. There are too many good dermatologists in Connecticut to wast your time with a problematic practitioner. read more

Our family has been patients of Dr McFerren since he was at his old practice. He is knowledgeable, friendly and unlike MOST dermatologists in our region, easily accessible and amazingly easy to schedule an appt with . I am a physician and refer patients to dermatologist all throughout the state. I recommend him above all the rest. read more

As a first timer with a Dermatologist at the age of 40, and being a sun worshiper I feared going to one. I was in for a surprise when I came here and found the best care from Dr. Marcus McFerren and Dr. Young. Dr. McFerren is the most kind Doctor I have ever had. From all of my procedures, to my Botox visit, I would just stop in and say hello to all the girls if I could find the time. An annual visit for check ups is just not enough, so I may plan to maybe find some things wrong with my skin just to come in. I can't recommend them enough to my friends. I've been going to the Savin Center for over a year. When I go I always see the PA Greg. He's wonderful. The staff is very professional, and they always get me an appointment within a few days. The other thing I like is that Greg is very cautious in his approach to a treatment regimen. He's never tried to sale me anything that I didn't need. In fact, when I asked him about facial cleansing products, he told me to just use OTC products because they were just as good as anything he would prescribe. Overall, this place is wonderful. I had this really itchy rash on my face- like kind of where my cheeks and nose meet. It felt like poison ivy. It was so embarrassing. I thought it would go away but it never did. Went to Savin and he informed me of what it was. Sebbhoric dermatitis. It was such a relief. It's a chronic condition. It will act up if I eat the following; processed sugars- spicy food, greasy food. So basically all the stuff I loved. He also prescribed me fluticasone for when it acts up. Well now I don't eat spicy-sweet-or greasy. So not only did he empower me, but I lost 22 pounds because of the changes I made and exercising. Went there for other embarrassing skin problems too. The doctor was always super cool. I felt comfortable as all heck. The parking is a private lot. The office is clean. The receptionists are sweet. read more

I've been going to Dr. Lisa Donofrio for at least 10 years, three times per year to keep up with "my face". Botox, Restilyn, Kybella under my chin...etc. I have the utmost confidence in her treatments and products. And I look fabulous. The staff has always been solicitous, professional and engaged. Perhaps different services are handled by different staff. read more

Worse experience I had there between the receptionist and Dr. Savin. The doctor is rude, has no bedside manner. Next time I need a diagnosis I'll consult with Dr. Google. Save yourself time and wasted money and find another dermatologist. read more

Dr. Marcus McFerren is great. If you any medical issues with your skin this is the doctor to go to. Friendly and great communication skills. This office has it together. I've never had to wait in the waiting room that long. Nice text appointment reminders and I you can check in and do all the paperwork online before you go so when you get there all you have to do is give your name. The nurse is cool too. The other treatment provider (I forgot her name) is excellent as well. I wouldn't change a thing about this place. read more

Went to Dr Savin twice, both times for skin infections and both times he knew exactly what to do . I like a no nonsense Doctor who is knowledgeable and listens to their patients concerns, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone ! read more

I don't like complaining much but this experience was the worst experience I have ever had. This was my first time at a dermatologist. The doctor I had (Dr Savin) was so rude. I understand people have different personalities, but this guy just did not make me feel comfortable at all. I told him the medical problems with my family related to dermatology and when I told him about my mom's psoriasis & said that it was stress related, he said it wasn't and that it was from God. I am a Christian myself & maybe he was trying to present God in a way but at the same time, my mom's dermatologist said it was because of my mom's condition so I found it offensive. When I told him about my condition and said I had it biopsied before & it wasn't cancerous, he said "well obviously or you would be dead." This was so rude, I wanted to laugh. What doctor says that? I have a follow up in 10 days, and if I can, I am requesting another doctor. After this check up, I will not go back here nor will I tell people I know about this place. I did not enjoy my time with Savin Dermatology. Dr. Savin is slightly prejudicing due to his constant use of microaggressions. For those who do not know what a microaggression is: "verbal, nonverbal, and snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership." It was an uncomfortable experience and they DO NOT know what they are doing when it comes to skin care for people of color, it might actually make our skin worse. I highly recommend NOT going. P.S. Reception is "ok" when they don't wake up on the wrong side of the bed. read more

I was a new patient and they got me in the next week for an appointment. It probably would have been sooner if not for Thanksgiving. It was my first time at a dermatologists office. I had made an appointment to get a spot on my ear looked at. It was a mole that used to be small, but increased in size. I don't usually make appointments unless something really makes me nervous. When that happens, I am nervous and worried about everything (finding the right doctor, meeting the doctor, the appointment, etc.) until I finally find out what it is. Through the years I have had a few new spots show up on my skin with aging, but nothing I had ever worried about before. Getting a prompt appointment really helped ease my worries from the start. The staff here is extremely nice. The secretaries and nurses were very kind and also stepped down my nervousness a bit. Then I finally met the doctor, Dr. Savin. He was great. He looked at the spot, made a general judgement that from the appearance it seemed ok, but gave me options and asked me what I wanted to do because I had expressed concern that despite being there for a while it was a little bigger. Dr. Savin was straight to the point and everything went fast. Despite being fast, it was great. He didn't come across as cold (he actually has a great sense of humor) or uncaring. He listened to my concerns and when I made a decision he said great and scheduled me for another appointment a few days later. The few days later I had the spot removed for a biopsy. It was small but not too small. To be safe he said he was removing the entire thing rather than taking a piece for testing. Complete removal would require a few stitches he said. I said no problem. They numbed my ear, removed the spot, and stitched me up in less than 30 minutes. I talked with the doctors (Dr. Rau stitched me up) and the nurse the entire time. For having a piece of my ear snipped off, it actually wasn't bad at all. I would and have recommended him to others because they just made me feel so comfortable there, which with previous terrible doctor interactions always on my mind with new doctors, this is not an easy feat. read more

My first visit to Dr. Savin's office was a success. I saw one of the other specialists in the office for an easy fix. However, my second visit was my last. This time, I saw the renowned Dr. Savin himself. When I presented my symptoms and asked for his assessment, he said that he didn't know. I asked more questions. He seemed to hate that. To almost all of my questions, he responded that he didn't know. That terseness was dotted with sarcastic remarks. "Do you want to buy my textbook?" "Do you have a million dollars to donate to this research?" "Do you think I'm a magician?" He grabbed the affected area we were discussing, made some blanket remarks about things a 2-minute Google search had already told me, said that there was nothing to be done about my condition, and told me that he "think[s] that should do it." He spent a few more minutes scribbling, and that was that. I sincerely wish I hadn't wasted my time or money on him. read more

I brought my daughter to Dr McFerrin and I was thoroughly satisfied. I recommend him to many people I know. He is a black dermatologist and knows black skin. I had been looking for a black dermatologist for years. I am glad he is in this area. read more

I was in pain with a mouth sore that I had not have had in over two years which was when the doctor previously already made the diagnosis of what causes the painful cracks in the corners of my mouth. I called for a refill for the ointment and the nurse said since I had not been there for "it" since '10, I needed to come in again and be seen by the doctor. Mind you, as I explained to her ( the rude, first nurse I was on the phone with) that I was just in the office in October for a procedure, I had no skin problems then. She again said that I regardless would have to be seen.....again. I feel that this would be a complete and utter waste of both of our time since the doctor and I already established what the problem was. They also couldn't get me in to be seen for TWO DAYS. If it were not for the second nurse that I spoke with upon calling again to see what I could put on it until the appointment, I would not even bother ever going back to this place. Even she was empathetic to how much pain I was in. Except for this one nurse, it is completely obvious they don't care about their patients and only getting them in for visits for money. My previous dermatologist who had retired, if I had a known sporadic issue that occurred, I could call and he had NO PROBLEM issuing a refill for a prescription for something that was already diagnosed. THE TIMES OF NICE AND CARING DOCTORS HAS CHANGED. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend going here for the compassion. It was not like I was asking for an addictive medication, it was a lip ointment! For something already diagnosed!! The second nurse gets the one star, here. Forget the rest of them working at this business..all unsympathetic and miserable money makers. Times have changed. read more

I was skeptical when I made my appointment because the reviews were so mixed, but they got me in within just a few days. Other dermatologist offices had at least a 3 week wait and I was desperate. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful (always a good sign). The nurse was too. Waited less than 15 minutes total between the waiting room and exam room. I met with the PA and he was great. Quick focused exam, asked a few questions, made his diagnosis, answered my questions. I left with a couple prescriptions and a follow up appt in two weeks. As a first time patient, I was very pleased with my experience and I will continue to use this office in the future. read more

I saw Greg the PA for acne a while back. I have seen many dermatologists in my hometown (which is not New Haven), and would without doubt rate this as one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Greg tried to give me a medication that I cannot tolerate well, and that has previously given me severe side effects. Even after I patiently explained this to him, and proposed a different course of treatment, he refused to consider my wishes and medical history -- insisting that I take this medication, though it made me very sick, and refusing to consider any alternatives. Needless to say, I did not fill the prescription, and the whole experience was a really unfortunate waste of time and money. I have seen many dermatologists for acne over the years, and can promise that not all of them are like this! I would strongly recommend you to look elsewhere, particularly if you are dealing with acne. read more

Yikes, totally uncomfortable experience. I went for a full skin check, which is a fairly embarrassing/revealing exam by its nature. The MA or RN (not sure as she didn't introduce herself) asked one question, told me to undress, and left. In other offices where I've had to disrobe, I've was given a gown to wear while I wait. Here, you only get a paper drape. I would have also appreciated meeting the Dr. doing the exam while I wasn't in such a vulnerable state. The doc came in (also did not introduce himself), commented on my paleness, and did his exam quickly. I asked a question when prompted and his reaction made it seem like I asked the dumbest question he had ever heard. I consented to a biopsy. I was given local anesthetic, but felt the whole procedure. Whatever, I'm in the medical field, I know it happens, but it made me feel worse. The whole interaction felt impersonal, rushed, and awkward. I'm not an entitled patient by any means and understand the demands of working in an outpatient office. I also know that there is better treatment and more professional behavior out there and I urge you to find it. read more

Being very fair skinned I've had my share of skin checks throughout my life. Very disappointing experience. I had several spots I wanted looked at and some I wanted guidance if they could be removed as they were new and in very visible areas. Dr. Savin's response was 'its a spot what do you want' (um is that a medical term?) and was much more interested in talking about where I've lived. I think he thinks hes being funny - but definitely not the place or time. He wanted one biopsy and if that came back ok he didn't care about any other suspicious spots (?I've never heard of such a thing ever?). I expected more information (look out for this spot, etc) and a much better bedside manner. I mean you are sitting there half naked too for God's sake. I had one biopsy (which they did timely inform me of the results). Just awkward, uncomfortable, uninformative experience. read more

Diana Hall I saw Dr. Savin for three pinhead sized cysts on my face; two on my forehead and one to the right side of my nose on my upper cheek. I asked about a laser procedure to remove them at my first appointment as suggested by my aesthetician. Dr. Savin said he would treat them by scraping the surface of my skin to remove the small raised bumps. I trusted him because of his advertisements and many years of experience. I scheduled my appointment to removed the small pinhead sized raised bumps. As the weeks passed and the the areas that were scraped seemed scarred with deep indentations (about the size of a small pea) were not healing and looked worse than pre-treatment, I scheduled a follow-up. In my follow-up appointment with Dr. Savin, my hope was that he would tell me that my progress was good and the scars would heal and the indentations would fill in. On the contrary, he referred to the post procedure areas as "pock marks" telling me that they would not get better aside from the red discoloration, particularly the one on my upper right cheek: comparing the pock mark to "a wall hit with a hammer, obvious from anywhere in the room but the color would improve" When asked about anything I could do to correct this, he was dismissive and unapologetic. He completed his paperwork, handed it to me and the appointment came to a close. Went for a second visit today to the Savin Center and saw Dr Donofrio... everything ran perfectly on time, and Dr Donofrio couldn't have been nicer! On my previous visit she took off some 'spots' and also did some Laser treatment on other spots... everything healed wonderfully and overall I couldn't recommend them enough... I was previously seeing my old Dematologist in Beverly Hills, and the Savin Center is fantastic! read more

I had a consultation scheduled with the consultant, not with Dr Donofrio, about cosmetic procedures. The consultant couldn't decide which one would be better for me, so she wanted to ask Dr. Donofrio. Without warning me that it would cost $125 to ask the Dr. she went outside and sent Dr. Donofrio in . She spent about 10 minutes with me, and said that if I went ahead with the procedure she would deduct the amount for the consultation. I find this behaviour very unprofetional . If they can't train the consultant to know enough about what they offer, they shouldn't offer free consultations with her. read more

I have seen Dr. Donofrio and her staff twice yearly for 3 or 4 years. I have gotten various types of fillers primarily to soften the lines around the mouth and the droop around the chin and midface. When she added fillers to the middle face and around the eyes during the last appointment is when I saw the biggest improvement in my appearance. My husband who doesn't say much about what he considers to be subtle changes remarked that Dr. Donofrio really knows what she is doing. I like the fact that each time I see her she reassesses age-related changes in my appearance, gives an opinion about what is most noticeable, and administers an effective treatment. She and her staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Appointments are easy to get and she does not make patients wait. I recommend her highly. read more

I need a skin check and asked for a female doctor the receptionist told me "we don't have female doctors that do skin checks, dr savin does a million of them a day, he does like 20 a day its fine".... ya no thanks. read more

I went to the office twice. Both times the office staff were less than stellar. The first time I saw Greg the PA and he was great. The last time I saw Dr Savin and he is the reason I will not go back. He was rude and asked me why I was asking him questions. I only wanted to know how long it would take for the rash to clear. I had Dr. Savin when I was a pre-teen and he was an absolute ass. He told me if I stopped eating icecream I would stop getting acne. I left and went to a different dermatologist for years. However I went back about a year ago and started seeing Dr. Rau who is amazing and so nice! He truly cares and calls you on your b.s. if you're lying about taking the medication. Would highly recommend Rau. Office is always clean and staff is very friendley! read more

I saw Dr Savin as a new patient. Filled out all my forms and medical history. Met with him and explained my problems with thrush for the last 8 months and excessive hair loss. He did not even check my scalp. Just pushed up my hair. Yes, you have alopecia and u are sick. Find out why you are sick!!. No testing of hair or checking scalp for redness or lesions etc. No advice for creams or lotions or shots for my scalp. He did not even read any of the forms I filled out. Very cold and definitely not compassionate for any of my concerns of hair loss. I will not recommend him to a dog. read more

Worst dermatologist experience ever! DO NOT GO HERE! I saw Dr. Donofrio for two separate treatments - she seemed too busy and/or disinterested. She started my procedure and then left the room and had some assistants finish- I think one of them was a trainee. It has been 1 month and I am already scheduling the same procedures with another office due to the lack of results from her half-^*@&$ procedure. Additionally, I just moved here from Los Angeles and the same treatments were half the cost there. I don't know how their prices compare with other local offices. read more

I had a terrible experience at Savin Center for Dermotology. The staff were impolite. I overheard the doctors (negatively) gossiping about patients. I am very dissapointed in the Savin Center. In Septembe 09, I picked up a very bad nail infection, which by feb 2010, I had already had consultation and treatments by three different doctors without success. I was referred to the Savin Center, and told they were the best in the area (Talk about telling a lie). Anyway I went to them, having my first consultation with Dr. Savin himself. Dr. Savin took one glance at my fingernails, and assumed it was psoriasis and not a nail fungus. Dr. Savin then told me that I would have to do a few test which would cost me over $1000.00 and maybe I would have to do sergury or he could put me on a double dosage of treatment with Fluconazol and Lamisil which I accepted. When the consultation was over and I walked out the examination room, Dr. Gregory Rau approached me and asked to take a look at my nails. He assured me that it wasn't psoriasis but a nail fungus. I started to build confidence in his assessments and adopted him as my new doctor (Big mistake). Dr. Gregory Rau treated me for 6 months, doing follow up visits every 4 to 5 weeks. On the second to last visit with him, he advised me that it would take up to a year for full recovery of my nails and he would treat me for a full year. I when back to Dr. Rau 4 weeks after and he simply told me the nails are not curable and he is going to take me off treatment completely for 6 to 7 months. I couldnt understand why he would because my nails started show signs of recovery and improvement. I was simply left standing on my own as I felt he abandoned me as a patient without regret. I do suggest if you have issues which requires a dermatologist, DO NOT GO TO THE SAVIN CENTER. They care more about their pockets than their patients. I will never go back to the Savin Center. They charge you a ton of money for little or no delivery or care, Both doctors, Dr. Rau and Dr. Savin, they don't even take phone calls from their patients. I rated the Savin center one star and they are lucky I rated them at all. Very poor, incompitent and lowsy doctors. read more
