I've never even been inside this business, but that's not for lack of trying…read more I moved here from San Diego 6 months ago, along with my children and pets, leaving my active duty husband behind to finish his TOD there. Rent for a family of 5 was costing us 50% of our income. A few months after we arrived I noticed that there was an eye care center next to my local Walmart, so I Googled "Walmart with eye care center near me" when I returned home. I wear glasses and contacts, and all 3 of my children wear glasses, and our insurance provides us with yearly exams. This center was indicated to be the closest. It took me at least 2 calls to get through to someone to make an appointment, and even at that point they were scheduling 4 months out, so I made appointments only for myself and my youngest child. I was told that I would receive paperwork to fill out ahead of time, but I never did, despite checking my spam email regularly. When I asked about their location they confirmed that they were "between the Sams and the Walmart". Today my son and I arrived for the appt. And, as instructed, I called to let them know we were there. The receptionist asked me to pick up the paperwork and fill it out in my car. I'm sure this is a covid related measure, but since I am vaccinated I did not see why it was necessary. Nevertheless, I proceeded to the door, but no answer came when I knocked, and the hours indicated that they were closed. Someone working at Sam's Club said I could ask at the eye care sales dept., and when I did they indicated that the optometrist only scheduled appointments on weekends. When I explained my situation she told me that the optometry office I was looking for was between ANOTHER Walmart and Sam's Club that was also in Chesapeake. At that point I recalled that I had never been given an address for the location. I could never have known or guessed that Chesapeake would have 2 different Walmarts and Sam's Clubs, located together, in 2 different locations, and both with an optometry center in between, having only lived here a few months. But since I spoke with the office staff several times, you'd think they would have mentioned it to a new patient looking to schedule appointments for 4 people. Nope. Maybe if they'd sent me the paperwork as promised that would have let me know, but they didn't do that either. I did call back and explain that I did not have the correct location, but I was informed that, because of the time I'd spent trying to determine the problem, I would need to reschedule. Nope. Taking my business elsewhere.

The woman in the lobby eating Bojangles Chicken and sucking on her fingers was disgusting!! Then the staff had to clean her mess when she left. ** Our family have seen Dr. Seipel for over 10 years. He is just wonderful!! Never disappoints. The front desk staff and assistants are very pleasant, the people who walk around hounding you to buy new frames are annoying. Annoying. That would be my biggest issue with this practice.

If you have any kind of problem with your glasses, watch out because it is a hassle. I had lasik a few years back. I brought my boys in for eyeglasses and had no problems (first week of June 2018). I decided to come in myself, get my eyes checked out and get a pair of sunglasses. After my exam, I was told that I had a slight prescription and that would benefit from glasses at night with a special coating to help with halos and starbursts, as well as reading the street signs. This did not sit well with me as I had not noticed any issues with my vision. I went ahead and purchased the glasses on the advice of the "experts" at Southern Eyecare. The next week, I had received the glasses and gave them a few days trial. My vision was the same with or without the glasses and there was absolutely no improvement to halos or starbursts at night, which was the main benefit I was hoping to see. I took the glasses back and attempted to return them. I was told that they could only remove the coating and would not refund any of the money that I had paid (VSP did cover most of the cost, but honestly who cares about the insurance getting their money back?). Lacking cooperation from Southern Eyecare to return a product that was useless to me, I filed a dispute for the charge with my credit card company. This took some time to process. Southern Eyecare called me on Friday August 3rd, 2018 to come return the glasses on Monday. Sure, no problem. I became busy and forgot. I received another phone call today with a veiled threat to return the glasses before "further action was taken". I was planning to return them and get a replacement pair of sunglasses. Needless to say, I only returned the eyeglasses. Overall, I would not recommend Southern Eyecare Associates. You can get a comparable product elsewhere without the risk of having to deal with their horrible customer service in the event that an error is made with your eyeglasses.
