My friend and I were looking for a cool place to grab dinner before we saw a movie at the Regal in Bellingham. We are both BBQ fans so this checked the boxes for us. We found Joffs on google as a "BBQ near me" option. We even looked at their website first and thought it looked great. The food was pretty average. Staff were nice - the one guy we saw. The restaurant was not inviting. As we walked in you just see a bunch of junk in the corner. Disappointing for sure as we made a point to go there. A friend and I were thinking of a way to bring in the new year, and what better way to do so than some bone-in Buffalo wings. I stumbled upon Joff's Backyard Grill after searching "wings near me" on Google, and decided to give it a chance after seeing its 4-star Yelp rating. The establishment is situated in an interesting area next to a nail salon, we sat in the parking lot debating whether or not to go in for a moment. Needless to say, I am glad we did. The restaurant offers a few picnic tables in which to sit if you choose to dine in, which we did. We ordered at the front desk, and there is a window through which you can watch your food be prepared by the chefs. We ordered a chicken sandwich, fries, and 18 Buffalo wings. The chicken sandwich was excellent. It consisted of chicken strips sitting on a few red onions, fresh lettuce, and a juicy tomato with some mayonnaise on the bottom bun. It wasn't too greasy or too dry; it was perfect. The fries are thick cut, but cooked all the way through to a prefect level of crispness. The Buffalo wings come in medium, hot, or suicide levels of spice, and we chose the hot. They were large wings with the perfect amount of sauce on them. They weren't too gritty to get at, and they left us extremely satisfied. I would definitely recommend giving Joff's Backyard Grill a try if you are in the area. Check out the menu too, they have a variety of good old American food, from hot dogs, chicken, burgers, pulled pork, and even ribs! Sadly didn't not meet our needs or expectations. My daughter only ate half her burger (not great quality), my mom just didn't care for the BBQ sauce on her chicken wings (though obviously this is personal taste), my buffalo "chicken sandwich" was 2.5 chicken fingers on a mediocre bun and proceeded to completely fall apart, fries were average, onion rings decent, coleslaw meh, the cornbread was kind of dry and crumbly, the highlight was the ribs, which my son really enjoyed. Family run establishment, and service was friendly. Cleanliness left something to be desired, overflowing trash, floors and tables a bit sticky. For $130 for 5, we won't be returning. read more

What a great find. Big menu with lots of options but I stopped by to check out these Root beer BBQ Ribs! I'd say they remind me of the classic backyard over a grill type ribs. Couple chard bits and a good amount of sauce and the meat is nice and tender and wicked juicy. I really liked the BBQ sauce they made but it was hard to tell where the Root beer aspect was. It's hard to tell in most of those recipes that use soda like that so no harm done. But if there was anything lacking it was the flavor. Don't get me wrong, these ribs are amazing, and the 1/2 rack even comes with more sauce on the side. It's definitely one of those sauce loving ribs that I don't usually like unless they are cooked just right, and Joff cooks them perfectly. Came with some Cornbread, nothing crazy but still good. And some slaw, surprised to see there was hardly any liquid to the slaw yet it still tasted like a good quality slaw. I could actually taste the cabbage and carrots with that slaw zing to it, very nice. Definitely taking another trip there soon. read more

We are on a mission to try all the BBQ joints in the area, so this one was next on our list. It was early when we got there- maybe 5 pm - and we were the only ones in the restaurant. One thing I noticed was that many of the ketchup bottles on the table were sticky and gooey with dried ketchup on the spout... always gross to see that on any condiments. The service was good- we were greeted and the waitress was friendly and helpful. So we ordered a pulled pork sandwich, a cheese burger, and the boneless chicken wings with BBQ sauce. Also a side of fries. Hubby's pulled pork was so/so - didn't wow us. The cheese burger did not have a good flavor to it, and my son said he didn't like it. The boneless wings were okay, but the sauce was very sticky and there was just something off about it. Overall, it was okay, but we've been to other places that we were blown away by the flavor of the meat, so we probably won't be back. read more

The ribs were fatty and tough. Obviously not cooked with any real care. The cole slaw, extra BBQ sauce and cornbread that were listed as coming with the ribs "didn't make it in the bag. The Medium Buffalo wings had almost no buffalo flavor, plenty of frier oil flavor but severely lacking anything remotely resembling buffalo sauce. I mistakingly assumed they'd come with blue cheese...I was either wrong or the blue cheese is in the same bag as the cole slaw, BBQ sauce and cornbread that never made it. This place grew on me. First tried it over a year ago when my son and I were looking for wings. Don't let the simple, basic, decor fool you, the food is tasty and the portions are huge. The boneless wings are gigantic. I've also tried the grilled wings. Their BBQ sauce is tangy and sweet at the same time. They have 5 or 6 flavors. Suicidal is their hottest, but I like to hiccup and feel pain, so it's not quite hot enough for me. My only criticism, and it's certainly no deal-breaker. Their Buffalo chicken burrito combines rice and pico with their Buffalo chicken for mixture of textures and flavors. Same thing with their spicy mother-clucker sandwich. Spicy, savory, with sweet pickles and jalapeño poppers balancing the other flavors. My favorite is the American Blue burger. Bleu cheeze under the grilled patty gives a sharp bite of flavor. The best part of Joff's is their fries. Fresh and cut by hand. Crispy on the outside yet hot enough inside to burn your mouth if you're not careful. The buffa-lou chicken fries are a meal (and more) by themselves. Usually, eating leftover fries is a disappointing experience. Not with these. I brought some leftovers to work the next day, and my co-worker loved them. So great price and value, since BBQ isn't cheap. Chili was great, well balanced sweet to spice, good amount of beans and almost no tomato (Note: i hate chunky tomato, so extremely happy!) Unfortunately the Cornbread was cold and could have used a side of butter:( All the meat was really nice and tender. They have an interesting process of cooking the ribs. Not the traditional smoker style rib, but that kept the meat soft and not chewy at all. One of the regulars told me they do a lot of burgers and wings. This place is AMAZING! I came here with my extended family to have dinner after debating between Chinese and burgers, needless to say Joff's won. This place has backyard BBQ theme decorations that are a bit tacky but fit in with the atmosphere of the place. I tried the ribs, the onion rings and the house-ranch burger. All were delicious! The ribs literally fall off the bone; the meat is tender and just amazingly delicious. My burger was HUGE; I ended up only eating half of it. Finally the onion rings were just plain yummy. My little cousins shared a hot dog and WOW, I've had large dodger-hot but these don't compare; they are ginormous. The only downfall of this place is that our order took forever to be prepared. This place grills to order, so the food takes a while to be cooked and served. Also because they grill, you end up leaving the joint with grilled-smoked smelling clothes. These ribs are fall off the bone, all meat, because they are smoked long and slow. The chicken is fire grilled but tender, juicy, and flavorful. The Hot dog is a full foot long 1/4 lb angus dog. It is fresh, massive, and delicious. The wings, get them fire grilled, they are amazing and the smoked, fire grilled touch adds a little flavor and tenderness.
