I still find the retro historic ambiance charming- with its over-the-top velvet wallpaper, ornate chandeliers, and white tablecloths on each table. I don't believe any decor changes have been made over the decades. It's part of the restaurant's signature charm and I love it. It was a rather hot and humid day in Michigan and I immediately noticed that the AC wasn't keeping up with the heat. Still, it wasn't overly uncomfortable. Upon being served the check, (I was treating for my friend's birthday), I glanced at it but didn't study it. Later, I was surprised to see a petty surcharge of .50 each for sour cream for the two baked potatoes that were included in the entrees. There was also an upcharge I didn't recognize for some type of cheese? I just don't like being nickled and dimed, so it irritated me. I left the restaurant thinking that I wouldn't hurry back and that I would order a pasta dish. However, it's definitely worth checking out for the experience if you haven't tried this spot.
