I had been following Joel on Instagram for a while wanting to try his churros. His arrival time at his site can vary somewhat so when you see he posts on his instagram stories, then you know for sure he's there and ready. So it's worth following him on instagram to see when he posts on his IG stories at joelv.churros or Joel's Churros. His churros are so delicious and I haven't had churros this good since having them in Mexico for Christmas as a kid. His churros are the most authentic ones I've had personally on this side of the border. He's set up in the parking lot of Viva Supermarket to the right front entrance of the lot. Joel is under a white tent in this part of the parking lot and makes the churros fresh to order. You can order them with fillings (condensed milk, strawberry, or caramel). My favorite fillings wise was the caramel but, the churros are plenty sweet and delicious on their own without fillings. Joel is very generous with how many churros he puts in the bag, so pricing wise it's a very good deal. He also offers services to cater to events. His churros are the best I've personally had that aren't from Mexico. For forms of payment he accepts cash, zelle, or Apple Pay.

I'm spoiling this best-kept secret as a way to support local small business! Authentic, deliciosos churros can be acquired at Joel's Churros (@joelv.churros on Instagram) street stand out in front of Viva Supermarket (Marysville Blvd), evenings 6:30-9:00 PM. Look for the white folding canopy! The sun goes down later in the summertime if you're worried about the area/location and still need your sugar fix...or bring a friend or two along to partake in the churrific cinnasweetness. Regular sugar-only churros (sencillo) are cheaper ($2 each) than the filled kind (con relleno), and filled ones run about $3 each. I got one each of the strawberry (fresa), caramel (cajeta), and sweet condensed milk (lechera). The way these churros are made reminds me of the Churros Union De Tula truck that used to be in Woodland, where you could get the whole 9-foot churro "roll" for $9. There was a bit of a line/wait on my first visit but man, it is worth the wait. Perfect thickness and crisp crunch outside, soft and warm inside. The strawberry filling was my favorite! Too bad they don't have chocolate as an option, I'd be all over that. I didn't catch a photo of his phone number, but he also does catering for events! He accepts cash, Zelle, and Apple Pay. Someday in a perfect world, there would be a standalone churrería on every corner...until then, I'm grateful that Joel drives all the way down from Yuba City to set up shop and share these wonderful sweet street treats with the residents of Sactown.

Wish I got a better photo, but they were delicious!

Delicious churros!! We booked Joel to provide churros for dessert for our smaller wedding, and it was the best decision ever! He made the churros on-site and stuffed them with lechera (sweetened condensed milk), cajeta (caramel), & strawberry sauce. He was there for about an hour, and it was enough to feed all of our 50 guests. Everyone still raves about the churros! Thank you so much Joel! 100% recommend trying his churros and booking for your wedding/events! :)

We were really craving churros after dinner with some friends and on the hunt for the best churro spot and stumbled upon Joel's Churros! We loved it so much that we decided to come back a week later, and after being blown away by the quality, we asked him to help cater an event for us. It was great working with him while coordinating for our event, and it was a huge hit and surprise for our friends, since they know just how much I love churros! Everyone really enjoyed choosing from different fillings and especially enjoyed eating them. His churros are perfect - with a crispy exterior and fluffy center, you'll always want to come back for more!

Estelle is a great local choice at DOCO, they offer great coffee, tea, pastries and savory bites…read more I typically only stop by this location when I'm at DOCO for another reason, like an event at the arena, but Estelle is a great stop for any occasion. They have some indoor and outdoor seating and it's a great date night spot or quick stop to pick up a drink and a bite. On my latest visit I popped in with some friends and we ordered some of their desserts and a loaf of bread. I took home a chocolate mousse cake and it was both beautiful and delicious. Whenever I visit the staff is friendly and the food and drinks are consistently delicious and fresh.

I dont have photos of what I got for valentines day but remmeber them being ok but nothing mind-blowing Maybe its just the DOCO one that sucks but I went to give them another chance the day before mother's day and sorely regretted it. I got the matcha croissant ive been hearing about, the new blueberry cream croissant and the mango passionfruit entremet. The Croissants were a huge flop. Blueberry had barely enough filling inside-the cream itself was tasty but croissant was rough in texture and not flaky. Matcha was a bit more flaky and had more filling-I wouldn't say GENEROUS amount as some have said but maybe I just got a bad one. The cream was too subtle -it was more like vanilla with a hint of matcha. The entremet was the only one that didnt suck-it was delicious but again I wouldn't say anywhere in Sacramento has wowed me yet with their entremets compared to places in the bay except for the ones that ginger Elizabeth has had in the past-the flavor itself was on point, i will say the texture of the entremets have a majority layer of the jelly part-if they could perfect the variety of layers you're supposed to get in each bite I would be more impressed as thats the whole point of enjoying an entremet. Honestly I should have just gotten one pastry to try in one day as they are pricey-i paid 31 not including the tip fot my pastries, and in this economy one cannot waste that much on disappointing sweet treats lol

The moment you walk in, the retro 1950s diner ambience immediately transports you back to classic Americana dessert culture. They've apparently been serving Sacramento for over 37 years! - Hot Fudge Sundae -- made with Gunther's vanilla & chocolate ice cream, topped with whipped cream, pralines, and a candied cherry; beautifully presented with warm hot fudge drizzled all over - Lemon Raspberry Cake -- moist sponge cake layered with lemon, raspberry, and whipped cream; balanced sweetness with buttercream-coated sides The red booth seating and vintage Americana decor really complete the nostalgic vibe. Service was friendly and quick, and the overall ambience was cozy, retro, and diner-themed. Rick's Dessert Diner definitely feels one-of-a-kind, I'll have to stop by again next time I'm passing through Sacramento.

Rick's was the only place open late that had actual desserts. I mainly ate their cakes. They looked amazing. But I really did not enjoy them. Too dry. Just not good, compared to other bakeries in town. Over the years, Rick's remained a Sacramento staple, and when they opened up their new location in Midtown, the dessert community welcomed them back and embraced their sweet offerings, bigger space, and late night hours. I never went til just a couple weeks ago. Around 9pm on a Friday night I was craving banana cream pie and the husband wanted cherry pie. On Yelp search, Rick's came up as the top choice that was open. So we went and stood in the long line. The place was crowded and loud. Lively and busy vibe. Line moved at a good pace and the staff helping were nice but hurried. So we took our lil pies to go. We both liked our chosen pies. Now I know what to order if I go back to Rick's. Pies over cakes. Every time.

Café de Olla is a classic Mexican coffee that offers a well-balanced blend of coffee, cinnamon, and brown sugar, often served with heavy cream to give you a comforting and energizing boost. Traditionally, it's even served at funerals as families celebrate the passing of a loved one into a better life. It's meant to be warm, rich, and meaningful. However, the café's version was far from that. The counter staff overpromised their Café de Olla, but it tasted terrible. When I asked to switch to a mocha because of how bad the coffee was, their friendly smile quickly disappeared. They didn't offer a replacement or try to make it right. Instead, I had to pay again for the mocha just to finish the coffee break with my wife. Very disappointing experience. It was an easy decision not to come back. If you're going to sell poor-quality coffee, at least stand behind it and fix the problem instead of charging customers twice. Promotes well in facebook- HELL NO not again.
