Pop’s Cafe - Porky's Platter - Livermush and Grits with Cheese

Full confession, I am not from the South. A co-worker told me about livermush, and not being one to…read morepass up a new food opportunity, I Yelped the nearest restaurant with it on the menu. I still can't believe how wonderful my breakfast experience was! Pop's Cafe is unassuming and tucked away in a small strip mall in a neighborhood off a busy street. The exterior signage and lighting is so dim, I wasn't sure if they were open...but they were! Despite my nervousness over trying something new (especially with liver in the name), the waitress was immediately welcoming and comforting saying I could sit anywhere. She was very attentive and when I ordered grits, she asked if I wanted cheese with it and suggested getting in with a slice of American. The food came out quickly. I'd ordered the Porky's Platter and should've gotten the hint, it was enormous! The livermush was pretty good! It had a texture somewhere between spam and vienna sausage, but was fried crisp making it difficult to stop eating. The grits (with American cheese) were really yummy and the sausage biscuits were some of the best! I had to get a to-go box as the livermush was super rich and the servings were so large. This place is like the ones you only hear or read about in stories and I can't wait to go back if I am ever in the area again!

Came in and had the absolute best southern hospitality greetings and sat ourselves it was sweet, They offered a coloring book for my daughter and all. We ordered our food and went to the restroom to wash our hands and when we came back our food was already there. Everything looked great except my mother ordered fresh fruit as a side and she received a bowl of canned fruit cocktail. It wasn't even cold...negligent waitstaff for not explaining that...the grits were bland but nothing some table seasonings and purse seasonings didn't fix. Otherwise the rest of the food, my fish, the biscuit, the toasts, everyone's omelets, eggs and etc were reported as great! Everything was really turning out perfect despite the hiccups...But then a lady in the kitchen with black hippy rainbow colored pants and a black hat was hysterically screaming back in the kitchen and stormed out and sat with a family and said "we have a problem" we left immediately, we paid of course leaving plenty for a generous tip. I dont know what that was about but maybe when they get their staff underway I can recommend them again...i dont know I'm not sure what was going on, but it was definitely concerning. I do think this place has a lot of potential, and maybe once they get their staff situation under control, I could recommend it.

There is a coffee bar that does professional lattes and other popular brews. A boutique with a range of cat care and gifts for cat people. They also board cats, so check that out. Their large cat "home" living room is double-doored to prevent cat escapes. Comfy seats for visitors who can pet, observe and otherwise visit with a mix of cats. Sit, watch, sip a brew and pet those cats that deem you worthy of their time and attention. Call for a reservation. Generally 30 minutes and there is a small fee to help support this effort. We were there when a 3pm group would be arriving, so we had to watch our time. We are adding them to our donation list.

They also have a TON of cute knickknacks and some clothing items available for sale (all cat themed, of course ‍). Onto the best part: the KITTY CATS! Super well trained, incredibly friendly, and so cuuuute They'll let you know which ones are available for adoption. But it's not just the cats, it's the place. Y'all, this place is incredibly clean. A variety of cats, but no cat smell. It just smells clean and is really clean. This is how you know that the owner knows what they're doing. I've been to U.S.A. cat cafés before, and this is is the best one I've ever been to. Totally worth the road trip from New Jersey. They also have board games and couches for the humans. Looking for a relaxing cat petting experience, and aesthetic pictures as a cherry on top? This is the place.
