The place is deff a little outdated in the dining room area.... It I LOVEEEE it!! It's a very homey feeling! The service is always great, friendly waitresses and great food! The pizza is always too notch! The bbq wings are my son's favorite!!! He's 6 and devours a small order of wings. The mild sauce on the wings is something I've never had before! It's spicy but not too spicy. The flavor is delish! Have run into a lot of people from my town. Everyone seems to talk so highly of this place.... I wish I knew about it sooner!! read more

The food is excellant and the staff and owner are phenomenal. My wife and I go to listen and dance to the Dance bands, which they have every Friday and Saturday nights early going from 6:30 to 9:30 in their large Banquet hall. read more

I'm shocked to see negative reviews? We've been enjoying Joannas in Somers CT for q a while now. Not far over the line from Massachusetts. The place is very welcoming and excellent food and service. The main draw for us is the live country music with different area bands and multitude of different folk who love to line dance. Huge dancing floor. Pitchers of water and cups for drinking. We always tip extra because of this! Enjoyed the seafood and salads pizza fried calamari. Friendly waitstaff. Huge parking lot. The owner comes around to say hello. Give this place a try you might love it too. Many top area bands play here on the weekends. Check out Facebook and follow for schedules. We went there for their New Year's Eve party, as we had a few times before. As usual, the food was very good, no complaints there. However, they seem to have some new wait staff, or wait staff with new, and poor attitudes! As we have every time, and as Jeff invited us to do when he signed us in, once we placed our coats at the table, myself and another went to the bar to grab a drink. We waited at the bar for about 10 minutes, catching up with one another, while being ignored by the bartender. Meanwhile, wait staff were coming and going, until one of them turned to us and said, 'Don't you have a waitress?' I said that we did, but weren't sure when she might get back to our table, as we had told her we were waiting on another couple, so we figured we'd just grab our own 1st drink. She then stood there with 3 or 4 other waitresses, along with the bartender, and proceeded to tell us we didn't belong at the bar, and that we needed to go back to our table and wait. At this point another waitress chimed in, adding her two cents that we should be sitting and waiting, not at the bar. One or two of the others nodded in agreement. In my entire life, (and if you're at Joanna's, you're no spring chicken) I have never been refused a drink at a bar because I wasn't following the correct procedure. It's a bar, and serving drinks is its purpose. Unfortunately, this set the tone for the entire evening. Turned out the same blond upper middle-aged waitress who took the lead in dressing us down, seemed to relish in telling people things that weren't allowed to do. At one point a couple in our party were going to grab a couple of hats and noise makers, only for her to pounce on them and say they couldn't touch them yet. About 5 minutes later they were coming around to the tables telling people to go up and grab whatever they wanted. I never did go back to the bar, so they certainly lost a few bucks there, along with tips, (you only have waitstaff during dinner, the rest of the night you're on your own) but I did notice throughout the night that the bar itself, which has typically been very busy when we've been there on New Year's Eve before, was pretty much dead. Guess that's just the sort of thing that happens when you have miserable waitstaff, people start going to other places where they can still have a good time! read more

Definitely your local dive bar with a ton of regulars - but it's a bit of a hidden gem. The food here is really good! Lots of good bar fare. Used to love this place but the cook, Freddy, was so obnoxiously rude, bullying the waitresses in front of the customers I will never go here again. Prices are too high - couldn't believe over $26 for a medium pizza! Fire Freddy and we will consider coming back. read more

My family and I love Joanna's! It is a family friendly restaurant. It's always been a MUST on our top priority list when we come back home to visit the Spfld/Somers area. They have the most delicious eggplant parmesan, pizza and wings I have ever had! Every time we visit our waitress genuinely wanted us to have a great experience. Went in with a party of 5. Everyone enjoyed their food, from fish and chips, to burgers, to chicken wings (which were incredible!). The waitress was also the bartender that afternoon; even though she had multiple patrons at the bar, she frequented our table, and made sure we had everything we needed. I go to Joanna's often and I think it's a great place to hang out. Good people and great food. Friday night they have the best Prime Rib dinner. You can actually cut the prime rib with a butter knife it's so tender. The people are fun and I don't know what the other gentleman was talking about with drugs and bikers because Joanna's is far away from having either of that in the bar. In fact Jeff Lipton the owner doesn't allow it. Now if you go across the street to Mickey Finn's that's a well known bar for that kind of garbage. I give Joanna's a thumbs up and I would recommend this place for any family to go for dinner! read more

I have managed/owned restaurants/bars for over 25 years. I believe this affords me the opportunity to have some insight on the true health of a business such as Joannas Cafe. I have frequented Joannas and ALWAYS found it to be exceptional. Not only is the food fresh but the portions can't be cost effective for the owners. I have yet to complete a meal. I also would like to add if you did a cost comparison of the menu items you will be surprised. If you've never been there I would ask for Andrea and you might be reminded of what service is actually supposed to be like. I have also gotten to know the owners. I don't know if people realize how important it is to see the owners in their business but for me its a critical component to the health of a business on a day to day basis. I also would add that the owners have invested alot of time and money renovating the place and it looks great. I am writing this review due to seeing a negative review recently and thought this gentleman has no clue. Sounded personal not professional. Tyrone E. read more
