Always…read morelooking for any excuse to grab a cheeky caffeine-fuelled beverage I set out along Dumbarton Road to check oot the latest coffee-kid on the block, Meadow Road Coffee. Named so as it sits on the corner of Dumbarton & Meadow Road. They don't have a sign as yet but my coffee-loving eyeballs spotted all the coffee making gear a quality coffee shop doth require & enter did I... I'm a fan of the look of this place - lots of wood and metal which is v.s'nice. Not many tables as such but still a good amount of seating in here. It was both nice and airy & warm (bonus this time of year!) at the same time. The greeting was also very warm from the 2 lovely guys behind the counter. I asked if they had soya milk which unfortunately they didn't so I opted for a regular cow milked flat white. They use Dear Green coffee beans here so straight away I knew it was going to be a damn fine cup of coffee before that liquid jump-cable juice had even hit my lips. Upon the lovely long counter they had a few cakes and bakes - a banana loaf, a salted caramel millionaires shortbread, some peanut butter brownies & also some undescribed biscuits which turned out to be ginger snaps & free ones at that! Yas. Bonus. I took a ginger snap & a brownie home to try later and both were delicious, especially the immense peanut buttery gorgeous, dense, chocolatey brownie, uh! So so good. If you like brownies then you NEED to try these. One of the best I have tasted (besides my own of course, haha!) NOMSVILLE. Needless to say my flat white was really good also. Spoke to the guys about opening hours and they said as they're newly opened they're still taking each day/week as it comes which makes sense, however for now it's pretty much 8am until 4 or 5pm. They also said soon they will be offering more (hot?) food so will open later then. I picked up a wee card by the till & on it says 'Meadow Road Coffee & Pizza Co' soooooo I am assuming (and hoping!) they will soon be serving delicious homemade pizzas here too! Wow. What a dream shop - coffee, cakes AND pizza?! Yes please thank you very much! Mmm.... A most welcome edition to this part of town (there are no decent coffee shops near this part of Partick/Thornwood) and a solid 4 stars and I will deffo be back again. Can't wait to see what these guys have up their sleeves...

I'm not even a big cake eater, but I will make an exception at Meadow Road. We were in a couple of weeks back and were pleased to find that they now serve hot food (we were told by a friend that they had issues getting a license to sell food) and we shared a Salmon and Avocado Bowl, which kind of does what it says on the tin. The ingredients are top quality, they don't skimp on the salmon and it has a great salad dressing. I would strongly recommend you try it. The cafe is clearly cut from the Aussie/NZ style, slotting into the West End somewhere between Papercup and Avenue G, without ever feeling like a watered down rip off. They clearly take pride in the quality of their coffee, so I would recommend dropping in, if only for a takeaway. It is out of the way, but we were recommended by a friend and we now go as often as we can. Spread the word, folks.

I love Grace and Favour, admittedly I have only had cake and coffee on a couple of visits so far but from this alone I absolutly recommend it. Firstly the cake options are beautiful, and I was very happy to find they, on occasion, have gluten free/dairy free. I was fortunate to try the dairy free chocolate cake - amazzing!!! Coffee is by Dear Green, a little mild for my liking bit still enjoyable. The menu sounds utterly delicious and seems to have a fair selection of healthy option so I will soon be back to try this. The decor is stunning, staff have always been very friendly and chatty. A new great find, I will most deffinetly be back......soon!!

There is no shortage of restaurants in this area looking for business, but this place should not be overlooked! It's actually become one of my favourites when I'm in this neck of the woods. Dinky, intimate and cosy, it keeps its decor simple but elegant, with wine coloured walls and deep, rich colours for the furniture. There are some local artists displayed on the walls, much like it was in its JJ days - representing local people trying to earn a buck through their paintings. The staff in here are so friendly, I feel like I've got to know them. Funny, open and up for a banter, but also really caring and attentive when taking your order! I love the chat when I'm in here, even if I'm just stopping by for a cuppa. The food though, which most of you are wanting to find out about....is absolutely delicious. For a small-ish cafe they know how to serve up a classy platter. I've had delicious pate, salads and amazing chorizo pasta in here. My friend got a burger and said it was incredible. Food is homemade and prepared to perfection. For a petite and new(ish) business it punches way above its weight and the food here is absolutely glorious. I'm always surprised it's fairly quiet when I'm in there, which is obviously to my advantage because it's serene and scran is served up promptly, but it's one of the best places for dinner in the area and should begin to get more of the acclaim and merit it deserves. Lots of love for this cafe, I hope it prospers.

Glaswegians, your cafes have definitely spoiled me and I can't find anything that compares to this in the U.S. When you walk in, you automatically get this cozy and warm feeling. Try to get a seat in the upstairs dining area, because this is where you will feel the most warmth. I also like sitting in the bar stools by the window because I like looking outside at the rain. If you find yourself waiting for a table, just take that time to browse the pastries, savory foods laid out, and even their selection of cookbooks. Their selection of cake and tarts change daily, but if they have leftovers one day then they serve the leftovers the next day until they are gone, but a lot of the time their pastries sell out on the first day. Bonus to this is that your pastries are definitely fresh! But the pastries still taste good even if they are a day old. Trust me. My go-to pastries were the Belgian Chocolate Cake or the vanilla custard tarts. This cake has hazelnuts inside of it and is served with raspberries, chocolate bits, dusted with sugar on top. If you love chocolate, this cake is the way to go. The vanilla custard tarts reminded me of home (because I would get Egg Tarts at Chinese bakeries and this vanilla custard tart tasted just like a egg tart) The only difference is that the tart at Kember & Jones had flaky layers of crust, which made the tart even better. My go-to drinks are hot chocolate or the Moroccan Fresh Mint Tea. The hot chocolate is served with foam and little chocolate bits on top. The Mint tea is served in a clear glass, but it comes hot (which was weird because I didn't think you would serve hot drinks in a glass) but I understood why because it has a bunch of mint leaves in it that changes the color of the drink to a light tan. It's cute and if you have a sore throat, it will make you feel better. Other things that I have tried and loved were the Warm Waffle (because it was served with syrup and fresh fruit), the French Lemonade (It was pink lemonade with a little bit of sourness), and the macarons (They make different ones each week. Try all of them because they go fast! I have to say during Christmas time their Christmas pudding one tastes pretty good, too.) Last thing to note is that the staff is very nice. I never really feel pushed to leave. They are polite and attentive.

I came here for brunch, and the menu was great - somewhere between traditional scottish cuisine, gourmet greasy spoon and gastropub. The food was top notch, tho mine was a little cold, which for mashed potato isn't that appetising, and the orange juice kind of manky... Still, the taste, presentation and serice time was all above par! The surroundings were quite attention grabbing - plenty of conversation starter nick nacks are on display around the walls, as they also sell antique and retro goods. My friend and I had been craving bacon rolls all morning since we hadn't made it to Jordanhill's university cafe on time. Woe was us. Then we discovered Cafe Circa which was miraculously still serving bacon rolls in the afternoon. Yippee!! The rolls were those crispy ones which I adore. We finished it off with a big chunk of chocolate cake which was perfectly proportioned. They now have an offer called a "friendship slice" where if you and a friend both order the same cake it costs only a little extra for the additional slice rather than double. The best thing about this quirky little find is the service. The guy that served us couldn't have been more helpful and was one of the smiliest waiters I have ever seen. We felt like we'd been regulars for years getting the VIP treatment. We also got a little card which offered a discount for when we next visited. Have been back several times and even though I have now left this area I would make the trip just for one of those amazing bacon rolls and lovely smiles.

Popped along to check out the new Aroma cafe within the new South Glasgow University Hospital (bit…read moreof a mouthful that!). It's situated on the 1st floor (up the escalator) of the new adult hospital building, to the right of the canteen. First thing we noticed about this Aroma is that you cannot tell if it is actually open or not until you have walked all the way around as the counter area is away around the side. Another tad annoyifying (its a new word yo) thang is you also can't tell how looooooong the queue is either. Eek. We came here about 10:45am and the queue was really long mainly due to that being around the time most staff get their tea break, so visitors please bare this is mind. The busy times are going to be between 10 - 11am and then again 12 - 2pm. This cafe isn't mega handy for us workers (or early morning/late afternoon visitors/patients) as they don't open until 9am & supposedly they close around 4pm. Great. Real handy that...however they might decide to change this but I very much doubt it. Looking at the their menu it was nice to see they've added a few different things to it, the first one I noticed was the addition of a Flat White, yas. I need to get a photo of the sign as it says something along the lines of '..every cup comes with it's own latte art' or something similar! We did all think 'Yep, how long is THAT gonna last until they get fed up?!' Haha! However on saying that my colleagues latte's and hot chocolate all came with cute wee hearts which I thought was a nice touch, although could be a tad to close to the bone/sternum if you're a cardiology patient here...haha! I jest of course. Price wise it's okay, certainly cheaper than your Costas or Star*ucks (sometimes you need a loan to drink there!) ~ I paid £1.30 for a small filter coffee, their cheapest coffee. I think a regular sized latte is about £1.60. They have a decaf option, a small variety of flavoured syrups for your coffee but unfortunately (as of yet) no non-diary milk options. Alongside coffee they also sell tea/s, hot chocolate, fruit juices, soft drinks, sandwiches, toasties/paninis, salads, fruit and a selection of sweet treats including Lemon Drizzle loaf, Carrot loaf, muffins and caramel shortcake. Seating wise there are quite a few tables near the Aroma but as this cafe is situated alongside the canteen there are plenty of other benches & tables a bit further round as well. I quite like their funky cream & orange plastic chairs; quite 60's looking. They also have THE cutest wee dinky trays! If you happen to be here for an appointment on some of the walls their are big monitor signs with your name & clinic on and it flashes red and makes a wee pleasant 'bing' noise when it's your turn to be seen. I'm, personally, not overly keen on seeing my name on a pretty big sign telling people what clinic I'm going in to but that's just me and my need for privacy when it comes to personal issues...other than that it is a handy feature. I have a loyalty card that I picked up from another Aroma cafe (Stobhill) but I didn't see them handing them out here so you may have to ask to get one or maybe they haven't received them yet seens as it's still early days. At the moment it's a solid 3 stars. My filter coffee was nice and also really quite strong which I really liked. My colleagues were all happy with their drinks too. I hope they sort out the staffing/tills issue so we can see that queue going down a bit quicker (the queue was actually so long today my friend didn't get time to buy a coffee so had to leave!) but as far as Aroma Cafes go, this is a pretty good one.

I was visiting on Wednesday and popped by here to see what kinds of snacks they had. This cafe seems like it's a staff favourite and is very cheap. If you were looking for lunch, the offerings are pretty decent - sandwiches, rolls, and hot food. In the snacks department though, there wasn't a tonne of options beyond crisps. I got a bottle of water and bag of crips for £1-something and was pretty happy with that. It's set up like a canteen and service was pretty quick. There's plenty of seating outside. There are other options closeby - M&S below as well as Souped Up & Juice. But at least the hospital now has a few options compared to a few years back!
