DO NOT GO HERE. the second we walked in it smelled like mold, none of the workers were wearing gloves or hair nets, and honestly it was some of the most rude service i've ever experienced. bought food and asked if my friend could use the bathroom in the freezing cold and after withholding the restroom from her and was met with rude remarks which ended up making her extremely upset when we got outside to eat the food ended up being terrible anyways. i would never go back read more

We've been coming here on and off since the early 2000s. And as the only Pizza joint off the Taconic Pkwy, Jo Jo's has saved us many times- including stretching our legs after driving a little over an hour and a half from home. I'm not sure if Jo Jo's menu is stacked with Italian shrimp dinners, pastas or chicken parms- because we've always stuck to slices- plus these guys have Ice Cream also. Even when I did eat cheese, Jo Jo's slices were ok. And aside from the crust- the combination of cheese and sauce was alright. The crust itself though is different and we both questioned if the specks on it were breadcrumbs or coarse cornmeal. I asked the guy if he could make a slice for me without cheese and said no- however... he 'could strip the cheese from one'. No thank you. Maybe I'm looking too much into things, but seemed like I got some non-verbal heat after that- because he flicked the pen and receipt for hubs to sign- and slammed my husband's card when hubs actually handed it to him. But based on past reviews- it's not me man.....it's you. Destination-worthy? I think so. Because for Jo Jo's being in the boondocks, this is slightly as close as you're gonna get to an old-school slice in The Bronx. The food was just fine; the COVID safety less so. The two employees we saw were not wearing masks at the time of our visit. Of the five other customers who visited during our time there, only one wore a mask at any point, and we became increasingly uncomfortable during our visit. They are not open for indoor dining, and to their credit, the outdoor tables were properly distanced. Columbia County's Department of Health reported 7 new cases today and 90 total active cases (https://www.columbiacountynyhealth.com/home/coronavirus-covid-19-daily-updates/). As of the writing of this review, the New York Times reports that the county is still at a "very high risk level" for COVID with a 14-day test positivity average of 2% (https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/columbia-new-york-covid-cases.html). We are fortunate enough to be fully vaccinated. We were starving, but honestly we still should have walked away. I must have driven by this place a dozen times, and I wish I was writing this in 2019. Back then, this would be a four-star review of a solid roadside stop. The chicken cutlet hero was spot on. They made the french fries fresh for us. It was a fair price for good food. This is my favorite by the slice pizza joint in the Hudson Valley. Their crust is light and crispy, sauce is just delicious canned tomato and fresh mozzarella cheese (especially on the Margherita slice). The family that owns this place is extremely kind, their kids often bring out your salad or slice on the weekends and it's just overall a great place to eat and support. Their soups are also delicious and homemade desserts are to die for. Don't let the ambiance fool you - this place is great. read more

Stopped after a morning in the sunshine of Spring. Pizza was hot and ready to eat. Salad had squares of fried? Chicken coated in Buffalo sauce. Salad was ok and perhaps a bit overwhelmed by the sauce. Pizza was decent and devoured. I took a star off for no masks worn by any staff. We won't be back until the pandemic is over. read more

Great pizza, pasta and sandwiches in the middle of a small town right off the Taconic. Great for the long trips to the Adirondacks. Great for the kids, they have goats to feed outside. This place was conveniently located just off of the highway. The owner and other waitstaff were professional and attentive. The pizza was mediocre. However, the other people I was with described their meatball subs as being "delicious". One other person ordered the chicken Caesar salad and commented on how great it tasted. The presentation was simple- no frills. If you order a "small" side of fries, or a small ice cream- it will be huge. You've been warned! The portions are definitely generous here. The only 2 things that I didn't like was the fact that it took a while to get my two slices pizza. Meanwhile, the other two people I was with was ordered hot sub sandwiches and received their food quickly. The other thing was that this place only had one bathroom, and with the number of patrons that cycled in and out, it didn't seem practical. There were a few caged goats outside on the property, and people were allowed to go up and pet the goats. This seemed to be very popular for those with small children. Stopped on a trip to Lake George as it was raining heavily. We ordered a pie and several slices. The pie was fine, nothing spectacular. Was disappointed with the overpriced slices. Jo Jo's is one of the three great pizza places in Columbia County--the other two being Baba Louie's and the Turnpike Inn, Each is very different. (Baba Louie's is organic, woodfired, "artisanal" pizza, and the Turnpike is sui generis -- lots of fresh oregano and garlic, in a biker bar setting). This is not your average junk pizza with fake mozzarella and Ragu sauce. Both their regular pies and their white pizza, as well as their strombolis, are terrific. Their house salad is also excellent, with an astringent, vinegary dressing. It's also the only place that I know of in the area which carries Manhattan Coffee Soda. I used to live next to the MCS factory in Brooklyn, and can't drink the stuff anymore; it's an acquired taste to begin with. But if you are jonesing for coffee soda, there you go... Note that Jo Jo's is closed for a good 4-6 weeks every winter. In summertime it can be pretty crowded; I recommend calling your order in ahead of time. On the upside in summer, there are often goats roaming around the picnic area. read more

I am from Albany, my best friend lives right down the hill from Jo-Jo's and I have to tell you this is my favorite pizza. Their crust/dough/sauce is amazing. As you are about to indulge in the most amazing slice of pizza you have ever had, and you hold it in your hand staring at it, you say to yourself, "wow this pizza is as flat as a board", no floppy ass dough, no limply wimpy slice pizza that you see all over the place. My father always told me to look for that quality in pizza. This is coming from the guy who brought me up telling me the it was a sin to have jared sauce in the house . We stopped to use the bathroom while on our way to vacation. Jo Jo said that you had to pay for food in order to use his bathroom. We tried the nuggets and fries and they are very fresh. Cooked and not microwaved. Jo Jo just wants money. Also when my food came to me the ketchup and mustard had tops that didn't fit so ketchup and mustard almost leaked onto my food and all over my car. Casual pizza parlor/diner which is always bustling with activity! Jo Jo's has great food, a pleasant and efficient staff, is owner operated, has a small "petting zoo" either on or next to the property, and has indoor/outdoor seating make it a great place to go with the children. The kids also like the ice cream counter! Since it is right off the Taconic Parkway we stop here often on our ride from Long Island to the Berkshires. read more

Old Fashioned "New York" Style pizzaria in rural Columbia County. You won't fine Pineapple laden pizza here! Slices are smaller then normal and that is a knock I have but a large whole pizza is the regular size and that is what I get when I go with the kids. You won't be disappointed unless of course you grew up with Dominoes as your reference point for what a pizza is supposed to be. The dishes like Chicken or Eggplant parmigana are also tasty. Stopped by on our way thru on the way home from Lake George on a recommendation and were very happy with the garlic knots and pepperoni pie. Crust was crispy but chewy and flavorful. STAY AWAY! RACISTS AND HOMOPHOBIC! WORSE SERVICE AND PIZZA! My siblings and I stopped at this business for pizza and ice cream after our annual siblings camping trip with our respective partners at Lake Taghkanic State Park. We placed 7 orders of ice cream and myself and my partner ordered a small pizza. I asked one of the workers behind the counter how long it would take for the pizza before I place the order, he said 10 minutes. From the inception, the staff was rude with their responses and unfriendly. Almost 10 customers came in after me, placed their order and left with food and I was still waiting. After 20 minutes of waiting, I questioned the wait time. The male employee responded, "I'm not back here twirling my thumbs on a lunch break". HOW RUDE! I asked why all the other customers received their orders before mine and I placed my order before them. He said, "Your ticket is last and you have to wait". At this moment, it was clear the staff had issues with us, my sister and her partner. I don't get if I placed my order before the line that they served and produced pizza for, why my ticket was last. About 10 minutes later, she asked for an update on the order. He said, "I'm not in the mood for this today, take your order and leave." I felt so disrespected and frustrated that I paid for horrible service so I asked for a refund, he then yelled "NO REFUND, GET OUT". At this moment, my brother walked in and heard the manner in which he was talking to me. He asked the owner, "is this way you speak to your customers"? The owner slammed his hand down on the counter and said, "Get out". He walked out from behind the counter, walked to the entrance door, opened it and said to my brother, "you and your pick shorts get out". This was a horrifying experience. Jo-Jo is a No-No Since discovering Jo-Jo's a month ago, I have been back three times and left satisfied each time. However, last weekend, when I took my wife for the first time, things went way awry. We stopped in for what we hoped would be a quick bite, choosing soup as the quickest option. . After 15 minutes, still no soup for us [restaurant was essentially empty]. My wife went up to the counter to inquire and was told that "she was heating it" [with what, a bunch of matches?] and that it "was on the way." We were understandably puzzled and frustrated, or "grumpy" as the owner put it. After finally serving us the soup, he said to the other customers within our earshot, "After 20 years I've learned to put up with customers like that." Excuse me? No service, no apology and an insult to boot? Needless to say, my wife and I looked at each other, pushed back from the table, the soup untouched, and went to pay, which resulted in him sarcastically saying, "You didn't like the soup?" to which I replied, "No, I didn't like your insulting comment." Things got worse, with the owner being totally out of line in an over-the top-way. We finally got out with the parting line, "At Jo-Jo's, the customer is always wrong." So, if you must, go for the slice of pizza, but be on your best behavior for fear of antagonizing this angry guy [perhaps too many years of rolling dough] who was a bit extreme even for a Seinfeld episode. read more
