We LOVE LOVE LOVE Elgin Family Pet center just as much as we loved Elgin Vet Hospital. We have seen many Doctors come and go and always have had top notch care. We have seen Dr. Thevis, Dr. Sirmons, and most recently Dr. Branndon. All are very sweet, caring, knowledgeable, and have never tried to push anything on us. Have the prices gone up over the years? Yes, but what has not gone up? Most recently we had our senior dog hurt his back and have to stay at the hospital for several day. When we got the bill it was very reasonable for a hospital stay. The staff is amazing and always has been! We love Veronica, Sarah, Mallory, Fran, and Jenette. They always are happy to see us walk in the door and my dogs love getting love from all of them.

So every dog that goes in there should expect to get a haircut and shaved incorrectly because no one can tell what the differences between a neutering and a spay is Husky hair takes longer to grow back and if shaved incorrectly might not grow back the right way. I know it's just hair and that it'll grow back but I did not pay for him to get inaccurately shaved for a procedure that doesn't even apply to him. Then, she passed while the doctor and I talked about her life and how wonderful she was. It was the hardest day of my life, but the easiest day of my sweet baby Gracie's. It was worth every penny. I have never seen such a peaceful ending. There are not words big enough to communicate my gratitude. The end of her life was so sacred, which is more than most of us people get. My female cat has started experiencing kidney/urinary issues over the past year. A couple of weeks…read moreago, I took her in for updated bloodwork since her previous vet (who has since left Paz) wanted to monitor a specific marker. The appointment cost around $200-$250. During this appointment I wasn't seen by a doctor, just the tech, but was assured a doctor would review her bloodwork and contact me. They emailed me to say that "everything was within normal range." However, since I specifically wanted to see the results for this particular marker, I requested a copy of the bloodwork. To my surprise, when I reviewed the results, multiple markers were clearly concerning, even to my untrained eye. When I asked questions about these findings, they told me I'd need to schedule another follow-up appointment (with an additional visit fee) and bring her back in just to discuss the results. Why would I stress my cat out with another car ride/vet visit just to get answers about my previous appointment? This makes no sense. On top of that, it took them about a week to even call me back. During this time, I hired an online vet to review the bloodwork. To my shock, this vet confirmed that the results show early signs of kidney disease--the leading cause of death in cats--and stressed the importance of starting preventative measures immediately. In short, I can no longer recommend this clinic. All the good vets have left, and the quality of care provided could cause major health concerns to go missed. As other reviewers have mentioned, this place has home down hill and that has been very apparent, but until now I had just been too lazy to do the research and switch. Please find a better option! This clinic claims to be holistic and to have a natural approach, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Don't be fooled by the cute decor and logo. -- we have used the East Side and South First locations.

While I was overjoyed that FM 685 had availability for the emergency surgery my cat needed, and they did a good job with it, the billing process left A LOT to be desired. When I went to pick up my cat, they gave me the bill. I asked for an itemized bill and to speak with the vet about the procedure, so they took me and my partner to another room to wait for the vet to come. When the vet arrived a few minutes later, I went through the itemized bill with him and asked to see every single x-ray, lab results, etc that I was being charged for. Turns out, there were several of each that they were trying to charge me for, but never actually happened. The vet could not come up with the scans or lab results. He looked embarrassed, and tried to fumble around with the computer to "look for them" but ultimately said "oh, they must have gotten lost...we can take off the charge." At such a vulnerable moment for me, FM 685 tried to take advantage of me and squeeze a few more hundred dollars out. I genuinely cannot fathom why. Leaving them 2 stars for saving my cat, but taking off the rest for how sleazy they were. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. Use FM 685 at your own risk, and ALWAYS ask for an itemized bill.
