I thought the price was high, but he was going to change the PVC to copper. It was a job I could have fixed myself for $100 with PVC, but I was worried the system was old and I decided to do it professionally. I had used Halls plumbing about 15 years ago to replace the sewer main to the street, and I liked the quality and the price. I later found out Halls had changed ownership... When Ian came to do the estimate the only 2 things that raised red flags were the price and the fact that he tried to sell me a Halls membership. A membership like that isn't something I would say yes to without researching. I was surprised he wanted me to sign up on the spot. It gave me 5% off the job but charged me $150, making the job $50 more. He told me it included water heater maintenance as well as an inspection under the house. I said no (red flag, needs research, gimmick?). It turned me off, but I didn't know Halls had changed ownership and I needed the job done. And I thought I was getting quality work and service. I did not. Antonio came to do the job. He was on his phone the entire time. It took him a few hours. The job looked good, but he must have either been too rough when attaching the copper pipes, he was distracted by his phone conversation, or he just did a bad job. 4 days later I came home to a flooded front yard. The pipe had broken before the house shut off valve at the elbow where the main came up from the ground. Water was uncontrollably pouring out everywhere next to my foundation. Jeff came out fairly quickly, shut the water off at the street, and over the course of a few hours fixed the problem. It has been a little over a week and no surprises. I called Halls to pay but had a few questions. They were not a definite "no" on if I'd have to pay for Antonio's mistake. That was disconcerting. I had to wait 3 days to find out if we were going to have to have an argument about that. I also looked on Hall's website about their membership. It did not list what the membership included. It said to call...that is weird. When I asked the secretary if it included an inspection under the house she said she didn't think so. I told her Ian said it did and she said she'd look into it...It should be transparent on the website. I had decided I might want to change my mind and get the 5% discount and have the under the house inspection. She told me it was too late to change my mind. Halls did a bad job and there is a good chance it was over priced. The plumber was distracted on the phone the entire time he was working. The person who gave me the estimate raised a red flag trying to sell me a membership on the spot. The broken pipe from the bad job made a mess of my yard, Halls didn't offer to clean it up, it also was a huge stressor to come home to a broken pipe with gushing water after it was supposed to be fixed with quality. Halls told me they weren't sure if I was going to be charged extra for their mistake (more stress). They could have at least said yes to letting me get the 5% discount, let me pay an extra $50 for the membership, and come out and do the under the house inspection. Instead I had a job done poorly for $2000, had a lot of stress, and will never use Halls again. I definitely don't trust them now. The only good thing was the plumber Jeff who came to fix Antonio's bad job. He was great.

I have been holding off on this review for a while because I was waiting to see just how in the…read morehole I was going to be for using these services, but I am about at the point where I'm not even entirely sure these guys aren't just a scam. I had a new HVAC installed in 2024 when my old one finally broke. Of course, this happened in the middle of a Sacramento heatwave. Of course, they had me over a barrel and I needed something fixed immediately. To their credit, they did order the unit and install it extremely quickly. It also broke down an hour later. I chalked that up to just accidental installation issues. The guys came back, made some adjustments and the unit worked fine... For about another 6 months and then the thermostat broke down. So, with my 10 year warranty they came back to fix the wires in the thermostat. And then the Thermostat broke again and we had it replaced with a different model. And then the unit broke down in the winter another time and had to be patched. And today I woke up and even with the thermostat turned entirely off the unit was just blowing hot air out at maximum strength until we finally just climbed up and unplugged the whole thing in the attic. Every time we need something fixed it takes 5-7 days to get someone out to fix it. That's 5-7 days without air conditioning in a Sacramento summer or without heat in some of the coldest months we have. Can we survive? Sure. Is that what I paid over $15,000 for? Absolutely not. At this point I am fairly certain I was sold faulty equipment. In trying to just get someone out urgently to unplug the whole unit in the attic so we weren't just living with heat on full blast in the house for the next 5 days, I talked to one human being who tried very hard to be helpful, and one AI script logger they have set up as a customer service rep. That's right. They're literally using AI to communicate with clients, take messages, send texts, and relay inaccurate information. At one point the AI sent me a text to say someone was coming over in the evening to unplug the unit. 10 minutes before 5pm an actual person called to leave a message saying no technician was actually coming. Frankly, I've had it with this nonsense. I paid a not insubstantial amount of money for a heating and air system in my home and I expect that it will not break multiple times a year.

The misses toughed it out but I was unable to take the cold. Called PGE for an "open all day appt" and used extra cologne and hit the office. PGE came around noon and said "thing is toast, call a plumber or contractor" and left. I reached out to my Gf and her network and was referred to Mr Pipes Plumbing from family. The receptionist / scheduler was super sweet and had me take pics of the water heater so she could forward them to Chris, the technician. Got the time window: 4-7 pm. He was here by 5:30 and within an hour had my pilot light back on and the parts replaced without having to drop 2K on a new unit, install, and haul away. He was quick, to the point, and fairly priced. We are having him return to put in a sensor that will prevent a huge catastrophic leak once this heater goes bite the dust. I've recently had my sewer line replaced by Honest Sewer and Drain, who I've been a customer of…read moresince 2023. I live in an older home (1950s-1960s) so clogged pipes are a problem and they've always done a great job on them. I also appreciated that they've made good suggestions when I've mentioned the cost of upgrading my plumbing and offered me options that made the cost more within reach. For the last call, a regular cleaning could have caused damage to the sewer line which was breaking and was full of roots, so they water-flushed the blockage instead to get the water moving and I realized, it was time to replace the sewer line before it was too late. I received a discount as a repeat customer. The whole process took less than two days. Mike and Anatoliy came out to do the work. They covered the ground with tarps to minimize cleanup later, digging was a few feet deep but confined to the location of the line, narrow to the point that they saved a favorite rose bush that I was supposed to dig out. I appreciated seeing part of the removal process and the explanation of the original sewer material, how it was installed and how that eventually led to the wear. The work on day one didn't take that long and the pipe was installed and the cleanouts were upgraded to current standards. They handled the permit and scheduling for the inspection and it was passed by late morning so that Mike could. complete the work. The whole removal and installation hardly interrupted my water use.
