This is a nice coffee place at the west end. It's close to the downtown park and harbor. I love that it's bright inside with big glass windows. It has two floors. The seats on the second floor are very relaxing, nice for conversations while looking outside the window. Uncomfortable to work in with a laptop. People can study or work on the ground floor with plenty of tables and seats. Cleanliness is good but could use some improvement. This is also walking distance to other stores and fast food in the area. There are street parking in the area which is very convenient. But I always take the bus when I'm downtown. Overall the experience is good! read more

The latte and donuts are good here. Teas are terrible. WiFi is like using dial up internet so it's impossible to work here. I don't know if they do that on purpose but there's no excuse for having such slow internet in 2025. I will visit other coffee shops from now on. read more

We decided to go here after visiting the market, because we really needed something warm and will keep us up. The service was great, the girl taking our order was really nice. The wait time wasn't too long and the prices were good. We got the caramel latte with oat milk. It was really good! The perfect amount of creaminess and sweetness but making sure it still tasted like coffee. The art was a PLUS +! We think whoever did this is talented because I can't even draw a straight line. The coffee here is delicious-- I had the dark roast and returned the next day for another cup. Unfortunately, the customer service doesn't match the quality of the drinks. The employee at the counter was far more interested in her conversation with the other employee than in greeting or acknowledging the customers. Their conversation never broke, and I had to repeat my order multiple times, which made the whole experience frustrating. Until my recent visit to Vancouver, I had never heard of JJ Bean before. Turns out it is a popular coffee chain in Vancouver. Stumbled across this exquisite location that is one street down from Robson Street. The location seems to attract a mix of folks, Robson shoppers but also business people as this space is close to the Financial District. The interior of this cafe is great as it has two levels of seating. The upstairs seating overlooks the coffee bar area. There is also outdoor seating here which is good for warm days. The food offerings seem a bit more extensive than your usual coffee house as they have baked goods and sandwiches. The coffee prices here are cheaper than in Seattle once you factor in the CAD-USD currency conversion rate. Ordered a large (grande) caffe latte ($4.50) and the drink was well made with bold flavor and creamy froth on top. It is on par with my favorite coffee places in Seattle like Caffe Vita and Zeitgeist. I really like this space as it is sleek looking. I tried to get a seat upstairs, but there were none available so I ended up taking a seat at the high bar table instead. I think you may have a problem finding the seat you want here at certain times of the day here because of the location. Enjoyed the coffee at JJ Bean. They have many locations around town, so I will consider going to them on future visits to Vancouver rather than my default place, Starbucks. read more

The cafe recently opened in July 2010. Both levels of the restaurants boast a very clean line modern minimalist decor. The second level is more like a catwalk around the perimeter of the restaurant overlooking the service counter to the inside and the streets through the 2 storey glass windows. There are also sidewalk seating outside the restaurant. Coffee, tea and pastry items are standard. A great place to chill out and people watch. read more

On October 28th I came to JJ Bean at Alberni and Thurlow to work, there was heavy music playing which was very distracting so my Partner asked the Barista to change the music to something more mellow. I went again after nothing happened about 15 minutes later and asked for Chill music. the Barista's complained about this request in ear shot of me with her co worker. The coffee shop closed at 7 and at 6:40 they began vacuuming and sweeping under where we were sitting. When I was younger and worked these types of jobs, this would be completely unacceptable as this is highly unprofessional. These sort of tasks would be done once the shop is closed not while they are open with customers still in the shop. I would not recommend coming to this location to be productive as the setting is not professional or respectful of their customers. The latte was delicious. read more

Cool space. Kinda 70's Swedish interior look. I've tried JJ bean in the past before. It was a medium roast. Didn't care for it back then at the Mt Pleasant location. Today, I tried the Railtown roast, which is supposed to be a 0 acidity coffee. It's a dark roast, and I took it black. I have a fetish thing about dark black coffee. Slightly bitter and left an after taste that kinda hangs onto the back of your tongue. I've definitely had worse. From totally flat to totally sour and burnt. This was somewhere in the middle. It was tolerable bitter. You get used to it after a few sips. Cool space and friendly servers. Coffee, not so much for me. Sorry JJ. read more

One lesson I was told upon landing in Vancouver was that the lifestyle pace here is less furious than where I came from. I should slow down enjoy my vacation and smell the Coffee. Vancouver is definitely caffeinated to an extreme with shops in every corner more so than Gas stations. As I slow down this morning at this JJ Bean location enjoying a Cappuccino($3.40) that easily matches any Espresso Beverage I've had in Toronto. I was starving and en route to see a friend. I had wanted to go out to eat, but she had already had a burger, and suggested I do the same. On the way, I passed a JJ Bean. I decided a sandwich sounded good. It was clean and not busy at all . A girl who was sweeping the floor eventually came up to the counter to help me. ( I didn't see her wash her hands which didn't impress me ) I ordered a chicken pesto grilled panini. It didn't take them too long to crisp it up and bag it for me to go. The sandwich itself was nice and crisp, which I love ( hate anything soggy !!) But, it had a bit too much cheese on it. All in all , it was ok. One of the more stylish coffee places you will ever step into in downtown. On the corner of Alberni and Bute, this place just shows you that coffee places do not have to be a cookie cutter style, and can be different in the sense of chic (Crate & Barrel style) look, with nice bright whites for walls and furnishings instead of using old, dark woods to make a place moody, this place decides to stay in the 'NOW' and is a comforting sight to see, and to sit in and enjoy that cup of java. The one thing this joint does not have is wi-fi, so you won't have the leachers in here with their laptops and milking one cup of coffee to the very end looking all smart, and attemepting to do homework, while really doing something else. There are two levels in here, and you can hide from the masses upstairs, to some odd bucketed seats that you may get too comfortable in. I think their coffee is not bad, but the place adds to the experience of your coffee. Nicely located just away from the busy stretch of Robson, one can 'hide-out' before heading back into the warzone of shoppers, and of people looking. This place has seating on the outside, right around the block, sure you will occasionally be approached by a peddler (this is due to the liquor store next door) for some change, but that is the risk you have sitting outside, including bird poop, rain and second hand fumes from cars. It's good to have a variety of 'Java' shops around here, and a great addition so you are not bombarded by the monopolized green mermaid that use to rule this core! read more

Signage seemed to be lacking so wasn't sure if there were any specialty drinks to be aware of as I'm not that familiar with JJ Bean. First off...I love JJ Bean Coffee. This is a brand new location (Aug 2010) and is stunning from the street. It is decorated in a very clean modern minimalist way and almost has a feel of a Spa. It's a great place to have a biz meeting and the outside seating is very cool and has great street appeal. There is an upstairs area that is like a catwalk and has a very modern cool feel. You feel cool just being here. I travel a lot and have to say this is one of the coolest places to have a coffee. They have great healthy sandwiches that If you order to eat there you get a side salad as well. The sandwiches go for about $7-$8 not cheap but very delicious. BEST LONDON FOG LATTE EVER! JJ's was super close to where my friends and I stayed in Vancouver and we made several stops here. As stated before, they have the best London Fog Latte I have ever had, hands down. It was so creamy with just the right amount of sweetness that I gulped that sucker down so quickly. I wish they had a JJ's here! But then I'd probably go broke so maybe it's a good thing. So tasty, so delicious, a definite must try! PS. Came here for the first time for a caramel latte and walked away with that plus a cheddar/chive scone and a cheddar/jalapeño muffin! The latte was amazing, as I drank it I realized I had forgotten to ask for decaf espresso and figured oh well, if I feel anxious and jittery it's not the end of the world. Whenever I get a Starbucks latte I always feel super jittery from it (hence why I started doing decaf) but I was pleasantly surprised that JJ Bean's espresso didn't do that to me. What a good looking café! Here you'll find comfortable chairs, lots of place between them and big windows. Surprisingly however, there's no much light coming in, probably because it's surrounded by big towers. It's also very noisy inside. There's so much echo on the 2nd floor, that you'll probably get a headache before you finish your coffee. Finally, I didn't really appreciate to be charged 0,60 cents more for soy milk when it's not written on the menu. Coming back? First I was drawn to their chairs outside, molded plastic in a postmodern interpretation of a bean shape. I'd walk past on my way to Starbucks, my go to for caffeine for the past many years. At Starbucks, I would feel progressively more like a cow being herded toward a beverage and out the door. At Starbucks, the coffee tastes burnt and the employees all seem to hate their job. So I decided to leap out of my old familiar pattern and try JJ Bean, home of the cool chairs. I love this place. I've come here every day for the past couple weeks. Here is why then get five stars. The employees all seem like they might own a share of the business. Whether or not that is true, it speaks to the quality of the interaction. Professional, knowledgeable, warm. Their coffee is delicious. Their food offerings are far far better than Starbucks for any meal of the day. It's made with fresh, high quality ingredients and has the feel of being prepared in a small kitchen by real cooks- not in an industrial food factory like Starbucks. It's served on real dishes with actual flatware. And it's served with a smile. The people here take pride in what they do and how they do it; and in the quality of the things they serve. I do like Starbucks, really I do. But then again, I'm not much of a coffee drinker. On the occasion when I do decide to have a coffee based beverage, I tend to enjoy a very well made latte. JJ Bean does not disappoint. Their beans are roasted perfectly and the lattes are just hot enough not to burn. It's also a great location with loft style upstairs seating and a great view for people watching. I wasn't sure if I was ordering a coffee at JJ Bean or somehow stumbled into a living, breathing copy of Architect Magazine. This is a beautiful space, great use of minimalism in the design, but still a place you want to sit inside and get cozy. I was delighted that the Southwest Chicken wrap I ordered ($6.50) was grilled. Nice touch. The staff was friendly and assisted customers after me with picking out the best of the day-old muffins. JJ Bean is a fantastic franchise with the best coffee and espresso in the city. Stumbling across this location was a real treat. I normally frequent the location on Main. This space felt like my JJ Bean's older brother. You know, the one who graduated from college, got a good job and lives in the city. Highly recommended. read more
