Over the last 3-4 years, I've visited Jive maybe once or twice a month. It used to be a really fun vibe with pretty good drinks/beer and a friendly staff. The last few times I've been, they have been out of nearly every beer or it's been the worst draft pour imaginable. I always get the Saloon Door Tasty AF - it was super flat this time and the previous time. I get Jive is a local dive bar type but the service has gone downhill significantly, to the point that I wouldn't go back. Last time the bartender "jokingly" threw our credit card at my husband's face when we closed out. This time the bartender kept asking us to do stuff that would "Make his job easier" - like leaving our drink on the coasters despite him not even putting our drinks on the coasters. I love a good dive bar and don't think I have high standards but it's not much to want your beer to not be flat or to have a friendly bartender. read more

The bar hosted a shower which they posted on Facebook. When I arrived no one greeted me or took my order. I heard this happens often.

Showed up with some friends and waited for the bartender to serve us and one of my friends went to the restroom. Once the bartender finally noticed us he said wasn't there another motherfu***** here and then called us motherfu*****. I should have left there when he started speaking to us like that. I still ordered a drink and he went ahead and signed my tip on my receipt. They only treat their regular with respect anyone that's new going there they won't pay attention to you and will overcharge you. read more

I went here a couple nights ago on a whim. I really wanted to listen to some live music and this was the closest bar to me with live music on Fridays. It did not disappoint! I got there around 10 and the band was taking a break but they were still playing for hours to come. I think they were playing up until close. I ended up leaving at 1am so I'm not certain on that. It's a very fun place for a date, but I wouldn't go there as a first date because you can't really talk on the music nights. The speakers are very loud but the music was great. They were playing all kinds of hits throughout the decades. And I loved the multiple guitar solos. I will definitely be back! They have pool, ping-pong, shuffleboard, which is different, and I think darts. My only con is that they allow smoking inside. 5 star for an amazing dive bar ... yes, they have touch tunes. Tonight (Monday around 8:00-ish was out of ordinary in terms of the kind of music playing: hard hard rock Korn limp bizkit tool etc - I enjoyed it. There were about 10 folks seated around the bar (not bad for a Monday). The venue has darts and pool and a horseshoe bar that seats about 18-ish. They have karoke some nights and most Saturday evenings, it is pretty packed. They do MEASURE their pours, in the for what it is worth column. When I go during the days on weekends, pretty slow, only about 4 or 5 seated. Oh, and they do have food - bar food. Anyway. Dive bar away, you'll like this place if you like dive bars. read more

I have been living there in the area for about 10 years now and I've never stopped in to jive bar lounge. I'm really shocked and I'm barely finding out about this place. We really enjoyed our time here. Very smoky, and one of the patrons has their dog all over the place. I mean I love dogs but not everybody loves dogs so if you bring your dog and you need to be a little bit more considerate and don't have your dog begging for food from everybody. That was quite annoying! Nice dog tho. Food: the food is the real winner here! The southwest egg rolls were so dam good! They came out piping hot and we were not given plates so they kept spilling. The wings were very good! Cooked to perfection. Some really amazing wings! The food here is excellent! Service: is quite slow as there is only one lady working this entire place. She definitely tries but needs some help. No way one person can tend to this many folk. They do have pool, darts and shuffle board games. Only drawback was got dam. So much smoke. My first time coming here with my boo and it was pretty fun! I had to feel out the atmosphere and once I did, it was cool ! There wasn't any food so I went and got whataburger lol there was a black guy with locs and short white lady who were the bartenders and they were wonderful!! It was karaoke night and babyyyy these ppl was doing their thing lol met a few ppl at the bar and had a blast! It was lit. They had games and pool tables and stuff. Ps: they smoke A lot in here. The only reason I am giving it a 3 star it's because I am a regular to this place and I've NEVER EVER been treated this way . I really think that whoever owns this place needs to step up with management or his workers , the bartender asked me what I would like I said an apple martini ;he doesn't shake it or anything just pours green liquors over ice and vodka and throws it on the bar so I proceed to ask for a cherry when this Nasty YT man goes and grabs the cherries with his Dam Hands and tried to put them in the drink !! I went in Thursday night with a friend and when ordering a drink the bartender tried to say my I.D. was fake and "cut short" until my friend asked me if I had my Military I.D. He immediately switched saying "idk why I thought it fake, it was just a mistake ... blah, blah, blah. I felt so racially discriminated against as a black woman. I WILL NEVER BE RETURNING HERE AND GIVING THEM MY MONEY. The second time at the bar, the guy with the ponytail looked over me several times when I walked to the bar. The guys sitting there had just left, so it was just me around about 5 empty chairs. A lady walks up and he immediately went up to her, which is when I had to scream for the bartender to come to me. Even then, he still seemed like a shitty person and definitely didn't get a tip from me. This was not a good atmosphere and I just felt that I was unwanted there. This review would absolutely be 5 stars if they didn't allow smoking. We love everything about this place...except the smoke. Cool vibe, nice crowd, great bartenders, terrific prices and bourbon selection, and some killer bar food. We can only stand to be here during slow times when it's less smoky and even then, it's sometimes too smoky. Which might be a good thing because we'd be here pretty much all the time if we could stand the smoke. Oh- we love the wings- we don't even like wings but they're incredible here. I stopped coming to jive because of a specific bartender that's just not cut out for customer service. I'm in the industry and he even treated my co-workers and I horrible. Tonight I decided to give this place another chance and I'm so glad I did. Savon is such a good guy and even though it's busy he still takes care of you as fast he can and actually acknowledges you. Started coming to this oustanding bar with a couple friends when I relocated to Houston and this is by the far the best bar in spring. they have an awesome atmos and super strong drink. if you're ever there ask for "Cali" he has outstanding customer service and the best mixer in the place. ive been going to jive regularly for several years now & im not sure how things ended up so bad. some time last year i went in with my friend & we ended up going to another bar down the street & running into a lot of the staff & regulars from jive. i got pretty messed up that night which is my god given right & thought nothing of it. a month or 2 later i go back to jive & the bartender Cali who i have gotten cool with over the years asks me if i plan on getting as messed up as last time which i was clearly confused about because again, didnt think too much of it. he then pulls me in close for what im assuming is a hug & proceeds to scream in my ear telling me to shut the fuck up about a problem he completely blew out of the water. i was taken aback & immediately started apologizing to him saying i would never mean to jeopardize him & i thought that was that. he proceeds to stiff my drinks for literal MONTHS & bri gs up my drunken mistake every single time i go back which again, i was a frequent flyer. by constantly making me uncomfortable over a mistake so small that happened MONTHS ago when im just there to have a good time with my friends, i resort to avoiding him & rely on the other bartenders, who happen to be very kind. that all happened over a year ago & more recently in december i brought a group of coworkers in to have a girls night. cali stiffed not only my drink but also my coworkers, so we sent the drinks back & got served by helena. i was just frustrated at the fact that after all this time cali is still acting some kind of way & literally charging me for alcohol when my glass has none in it. at the end of the night Helena, who was always so nice to me & my friend, pull me to the side & ask why im not tipping as much anymore. she explained she was just confused because shes fond of me & wanted to know what was wrong. i understood her confusion since none of this was her fault & told her how cali had screamed in my face & had something against me for such a long time over a situation he blew out of proportion. she understood & offered to mediate a conversation between us which in the drunken moment seemed amazing. they proceed to pull me, a 22 year old girl, into the WALK IN FREEZER where there is NO CAMERAS & NO ONE AROUND. helena made it seem as if she would have my back in this conversation & have cali apologize to me when what it really was was me explaining to cali my perspective & cali, again, blowing this YEAR OLD situation out of proportion saying since i was sooo drunk i somehow "ruined his entire night" (get over yourself i was barely around you that night). & i somehow ended up apologizing to cali AGAIN, receiving no apology, & helena chewing me out some more about "not tipping enough". i explain to them that i always tip well & tonight was just because he stiffed my friend aswell. they werent having it & basically gave me a lesson on tipping as if theyre giving me stellar service & not stiffing me for months. me being drunk i stupidly fixed my tab from $5 tip to a whole $20 tip. i left that night thinking everything was cool but when i woke up in the morning i realized how inappropriate & unprofessional it is to 1) pull a patron aside & tell them they arent tipping enough 2) scream in my face while ur hands are on me 3) stiff my drinks that im paying for for almost an entire year 4) pull a young girl into a walk in freezer with no cameras & no one around to yell at her 5) essentially force me to tip more honestly cali is the most emotional man i have ever encountered & needs to figure out how to regulate himself because his outbursts & attitude are out of line. as a grown man why are u blowing situations out of proportion & holding it against me for a year. hes old & bitter & weird. As for Helena im just disappointed about how she let that night play out for me. AS FOR JAMES & CEDRICK : these guys are so sweet & seeing them always made my nights better, they have hearts of gold & are so much better than jive. O stars. Been here multiple times. It never gets better. The 2 bar tenders have terrible service. Dunno if they're drugged out or what. The Asian girl and black guy with dreadlocks are miserable to deal with. They act distraught and irritated that you are asking them to make you a drink or get you a beer. Not like that's the entire reason they are there, right? Bar has a great layout. There's always dogs - which is awesome. But the service is terrible. This bar has it all: karaoke, live music, comedy, not one but two pool tables, a patio, and a ping pong table that no one knows i sleep under! The drinks are strong, the service is great, and at close the crying is loud. The place is beautifully decorated and the staff are wonderful and it's a great place to kick back and relax on the deck, listen to comedy to enjoy a laugh and forget about your divorce, or to do karaoke and sing sad songs about your alimony payments(there are more songs about it than you would realize). Horrible Bartenders! Watered down drinks. Ordered a drink last night that was not good and asked the Bartender to switch it out. She took a drink from my glass and insisted there was nothing wrong with it. I ordered 2 more drinks and at the end of her shift she tried to charge me for all 3 drinks and I only drank 2. The Manager was not interested in coming over to remedy the situation because he was to busy playing pool and getting drunk. Needless to say I let the Bartender have it and was told not to come back, as if I would????????? I could get a blind person to make me a better drink! I work hard for my $$$$ and refuse to be swindled out of it just because. I would have never drank the 1st drink anyway after she put her mouth to my glass. Tonight I went in on Monday September 13th (not to mention the 12th) the day before where I spent over $100 bucks with a good manager.) tonight I went in and my neighbor next to me asked for 2 shots and I said "please place that on my tab" then the karaoke DJ inside said "he's a liar" and cut me off from buying shots. I offered again and he said said no without knowing me....then him and I had an exchange of words and the blonde girl who was head of staff yelled F*** YOU to me. She needs to be terminated and fired. I've spent a lot at this place and that level of service is an F grade. Good job to this manager and good luck to the DJ for that job. They have two of the most rude and racist lying bartenders I've ever encountered and by the looks of the reviews from people with Hispanic names, I am not alone! The first time I experienced it, I was with my best friend who is white, I am Hispanic. I was at the bar waiting to order drinks and the bartender named Cali completely ignored me, but when my WHITE friend got out of the restroom and came to the bar, Cali quickly turned to her and asked "what can I get you?" My friend asked me if I ordered yet and I said "No apparently I'm invisible" and she said "that seems weird" so I asked her to order for me the entire night. The same thing happened the second time I came when those two were bartending. I was with another white friend and got ignored, and I was the closest near him, then he asked my white friend what can he get her, he gave her the drink and bypassed me and attended to another white lady that just got to the bar. My friend looked shocked. Since there were no others approaching the bar he finally asked what I wanted. After drinking our first drink he came over to our table and asked my white friend if she wanted a refill, I was about to tell him I wanted another drink and he quickly turned around and walked away. My friend felt bad and kept going to the bar to order my drinks. Finally on last call I went to the bar myself and was being ignored and I waved my hand in the air and Josh came to me and I asked for a deep Eddie and club soda. He started yelling at me saying didn't I hear final call, and I said yes and I've been standing here. He starts to yell again and I turned around mortified and walked to my friends and started crying and I walked out crying and so humiliated and angry and forgot to sign my tab! I was also mad at myself for not defending myself but the minute that people of color do that, we are called trouble makers and bullies, hostile and angry people! I had just found out a friend died and I went to Jive bar for karaoke (my happy space), and instead I was treated so rudely and ignored. Nobody deserves this type of treatment. Several days later I went back because they charged me $55 for 3 $6 drinks. I wanted to speak to a manager and the day time bartender Whitney lied and said just write down your name and number, he'll be back in two hours. Meanwhile Josh was standing right there. I came back in two hours with my white friend who witnessed the way they treated me. Long story short, they charged me a walk out me and extra drinks I never ordered. He also lied on camera and said I ordered after 2am and that I drank the shot he made me and walked out! I never drank anything he made because after he yelled at me I walked out crying! My friend texted me at 2am when I was on my way home. We have that evidence too. He said we reserve the right to serve whoever we want. Smh go on my fb page and see the live video. The only read he didn't cuss me out again was because he saw me recording. THE ONLY WAY RACISM STOPS IS IF THE WHITE PEOPLE WHO SEE IT SAY SOMETHING! Stop letting it happen and turn a blind eye! This is a unique place. First off, they are Super Dog Friendly! They also cater to cigar smokers as well; with special ashtrays, cutters, lighters! If you are a Beer connoisseur, you will LOVE the amount of choices they have on Tap! If you are a wine enthusiast; they have quite the assortment. If you prefer mixed drinks, they are very skilled at even the more upscale requests. If you like a good straight spirit, they have different alternatives to accentuate that taste and experience through smoke, carbonation, and/or however else they might find a way. What else...? Foosball, ping pong, shuffleboard, pool... Fire pit out front... Live music nights. Great Atmosphere! Final and Foremost, it shows that they have Pride in hiring the right staff!!! Should really be named the DIVE bar. This place is a complete and unabashed hole. Upon entering, you're immediately struck with the scent of what can only be described as a bus station bathroom. It's dark and dingy (this may be a plus). 4 people behind the bar @7:30 yet it's hard to get served because you have to get noticed amongst the patrons sitting at the bar. If you're sitting at a table, you're on your own. No one is coming to serve you. Be prepared to leave smelling like cigarettes and poor decisions.
