SHENG JIAN BAO - 9.99 These were made to order, freshly pan-fried alongside at least 50 other buns. They're pretty small, maybe two to three bites each, but they come out piping hot, which is when they're best eaten. The skin was thin but held up well to the filling and broth without any spillage issues. The pork filling was so juicy, and the broth was sweet and rich with pork flavor. My only complaint was that the top part of the bun was a bit stale rather than fluffy. Besides that, these were incredibly delicious. If we weren't on a food crawl, I definitely could have eaten a whole plate of these on my own, if not more. This spot was easily one of my favorite stalls of the entire crawl, and I can definitely see why people love it so much. 8/16/2026 Flushing Food Crawl #7 of 11

A lot of folks will see Kwafood Fried Skewer (#2), but the key is to walk past the skewer display and discover a separate business on the inside. What one will find is Sichuan style street food, which features a customizable dry hot pot (麻辣香鍋) with fried skewers and almost next-to-zero service. It is open late and has a decent amount of seating, especially between 2-3AM. The format is simple: Grab a bowl and begin choosing from the open fridge for all the meats, fishballs, seafood, and vegetables. Drinks are usually on the top shelf. Once assembled with a proper spice level, the meal is whipped together by the staff, and served on a tray. It doesn't come cheap at $20 a pound, but the other spots are either closed or too far away to consider any alternative. While the food isn't mind blowing, this is worthy in a pinch. Dry hot pot is usually fun, but folks can also enjoy their selection with soup if they please. The spice levels are from 1-5 and anyone who can tolerate the latter half are serious spice lords. I got the ($14) Pandan jelly with Mango & Durian (sago pearls & coconut milk). I ordered it to go thinking the dish would be too big to finish, but it's actually very light and refreshing, and not heavy at all. There were diners there sharing one large shaved ice and I assumed most of the dessert soups would be just as big. But usually Chinese desserts are not overly rich or heavy. The staff said that they could switch out the Durian for extra mango, but they were nice enough to pack a little bit of Durian on the side for me to dry - and no! The whole dessert doesn't smell like durian. Everything was packed extremely well - the liquid was in its own little dispensing pouch. Very nice attention to detail. Pandan is an herby vanilla flavor from Southeast Asian. I think The noodles were made out of rice flour? It was like a soft creamy pudding thick noodle. You can easily scoop into them alongside the mango, coconut milk, sago pearls. Every part of the dessert was very fresh and not too sweet! Had to control the late night snack, and save the rest for the next day. Don't think this kept well, there was a lot of liquid that seeped out of the tapioca pearls or noodles (delicious pandan flavor still!)? But it still wasn't too stiff the next day. Excited to try as other items like the ginger, milk, pudding, but I think I made an excellent choice with this dish, and the price point seemed high at first, but each ingredient to be made fresh on the same day. I'll be back! Curious about the hot café foods too.

Flavor profiles were hitting in all directions I didn't know which one to pick as my favorite! Durian mango coconut pudding - Durian wasn't overpowering at all and the mango shined in this dessert. The mango was nice and sweet, yet tart, soft and not at all unripe. The durian bits were creamy and custard-y, while the coconut pudding served as the perfect base for the dessert. Light and smooth Taro with mochi dessert- This was a taro sweet soup and had the consistency as black sesame soup. The taro was potent and the aroma was very prominent. The mochi was nice and soft, yet chewy. I was not expecting to like this one as much as I did. Ginger pudding - Utterly delicious. The ginger flavor and taste was insanely strong and the pudding was jiggly soft. Not too sweet and almost tasted spicy in a sense from the ginger. Super solid pudding. I'd come back just to get this again honestly.

If you're not looking for it, it's way too easy place to miss. Once inside, it's all Chinese from there. I have neither seen any of the ladies who work here speak English nor any English signs to indicate what kinds of dried goods are what. I've purchased my fair share of tea leaves here, in addition to the occasional sack of dried plums. Prices are never an issue and it seems their selection is getting better. We ate here twice during our NYC trip because they're just that good and affordable! The shrimp and cilantro combo was hellaella bomb. Drizzle some soy sauce and dab some chili oil on top and you're good to go! I like how they preslice them and put them on a plate so it's easy to scoop up. I liked that the steamed lobster was just steamed with no salt or anything, so I was able to give some to my very young kiddo. Service was alright. They were kind and took away our used plates quickly, but they didn't refill our hot pot quick enough and the pot started burning and it smelled very very burnt for a few minutes. DC Market (德昌DeChang in Chinese) is one of many places to shop, and they specialize in meat and takeout meals. This location is similar in size to their Chinatown location, though Flushing has more of a rectangular layout in contrast to the long narrow layout in Ctown. Their butcher counter is pretty much unparalleled compared to other Asian supermarkets with the exception of maybe large format Hmarts. DC carries a wide breadth of edible animal products both au naturel and marinated, including more familiar meats such as pork chops, short rib, flank steak, sea bass, running the gamut to less commonly appreciated though edible parts like frog legs, pork lung and hocks, beef tongue, whelk. Marinated specialties like tangerine peel minced beef and pork ribs in pickled plum sauce caught my attention, among many others. The second largest section is the ready-to-eat food section, with items pre-portioned in takeout containers, priced by the container. This area is composed of several counters with a wide selection of steamed, deep-fried, baked, sautéed and stewed dishes, all categories covered--vegetables, meats, carbs, savory and sweet--food items for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall food quality is not quite on par with good restaurants as some other reviews mention, though not too bad if you're looking for a quick simple meal. Aside from aforementioned meat, some seafood, and takeout, they have a suitable breadth of fresh produce, refrigerated/chilled, dried and frozen foods. What you don't find too much here are packaged snacks and processed foods, which I suppose is a good thing.
