I grew up right near there dahn in ole Westmahrlin Caunty, and dude, if you're from that whole cluster of towns (Greensburg, Latrobe, Jeannette, and all the little places around it) you know this place. Their pizza is made with a phyllo dough-like crust that just.... man. There's nothing like it. But above and beyond that, spending over $12 a person here is hard to do. The food is top notch, the lasagna... MMMPH. Their pumpkin raviolis were bomb.... Pretty much everything but the new addition of cheap appetizers, but that's western PA for you. read more

I would never eat from here ever again. My husband and I ordered two spaghetti's with a meatball and 2 wedding soups to go. The worst spaghetti either of us have ever tried! There was a puddle of water in each of our containers of spaghetti, the sauce tasted burnt, and the meatball was some awful mystery meat. Now the wedding soup.... a small bowl of mush that tasted salty. Lastly, we had two opened bags of bread that looked like it came from someone's home that was half used with butter pads tossed in. So friendly! So comfortable for out of toners after a day at the amusement park. Prices are very reasonable. The pizza was a masterful creation -- just as other reviewers have described: sweet as pie. Absolutely unique in my experience. I had no idea pizza could be like this. We were visiting my daughter at SVC and called our order in so that we did not have to wait a long time. Tried to get 2 large pizzas and the person taking our order said they had a very large pizza special that was a better price. I agreed. Once we were seated and had our drinks, the manager came over to tell us that special was for take out only and we could not have it to eat there. Really. So we had to leave. We had elderly people with us and no where but the college common room to go eat at. So with our styrofoam cups and our pizza we left and ate at the college with napkins. I did not ask for the special, they offered it. And then were SORRY that we could not eat in. They missed out on the appetizer order and salads that we would have ordered and the tip. But they still charged us full price for our drinks that were put in styrofoam cups to go. I will not return here. So sorry that they had to make us feel like our business was not needed or welcome. There are too many other pizza places to go to be treated poorly. Take my advice and go somewhere else. They obviously have enough customers that they can be rude and ask you to leave. read more

I'm only giving 2 stars because the food was good. Growing up in Latrobe I love jioio's pizza. After dining in tonight If I ever want jioio's again I may travel to greensburg to get it. Sevice was terrible. I would think that after waiting 40 minutes for a pizza and watching my fiancé finish his dinner while I still had nothing to eat a manager would come by but not the Case. The food was fine but when a waitress is bad mouthing either a current employee or one recently quit/fired (not sure) it really turns you off your meal enjoyment. This waitress was loud and obnoxious about it and was telling the owner stuff loudly in front of diners. Very unprofessional and I have no plans to go back there. I have grown up among the Latrobe area and have ordered take out from Jioio's plenty of times. The other night, my family and I decided to dine in and did not have a pleasant experience. When we arrived, we were told to seat ourselves and that a waitress would be sent over to take our order. After we sat down, we waited for nearly 20 minutes until I decided to get up and politely ask if someone could come and wait on us. A young girl was sent over and the first thing she said was, "What can I get you to drink?". Keep in mind we were not even greeted or given menus. Once she brought our drinks, we informed her that we did not have menus. She brought out menus never came back to take our order. Once again, I walked up to the counter, and told her we were ready and asked if she could come and take our order at her earliest convenience. At this point in time, we wanted something quick and easy since we had been waiting, so we decided to get the pizza buffet. As we were standing in line, my mom realized that she did not want the buffet since guests were reusing their old plates, and messily touching the food with their hands. She walked over to the counter, and told one of the workers to inform our waitress that she wanted a different entree. My grandma and I went up to the buffet twice (20 minutes or so had passed), and my mom never received her meal. Once the waitress finally realized that she was not attentive, she came over to our table and my mom asked where her meal was. The waitress said she never received the revised order. At this point, my family and I were extremely frustrated, and so my mom politely told her about our horrible experience regarding the service. The waitress immediately got defensive, and began to raise her voice at us, exclaiming that the restaurant was extremely busy and it was not her fault for not being attentive. The waitress then stormed away, and the manager came out several minutes later. My mom kindly explained the situation, and the only response that the manager had was "What can I do for you?". My mom then said, she did not want anything in return or for free, just wanted the waitress to be spoken to regarding her disrespectful attitude toward us and the poor service. The manager then said she was sorry and walked away. The waitress came back with an attitude, rudely said that the manager took our food off the bill, and to have a good night. That being said, my family and I will never eat here again, due to the lack of respect and care from both the manager and employees. The manager did not seem to care about our unpleasant experience and was not apologetic in any way. There were two surrounding tables next to us that shared their horrible experience regarding the same waitress. For a family owned business, one would think that they would offer and provide exceptional customer service. I am very disappointed and will most definitely not be returning. read more

Pizza is good and consistent. The only complaint I have had is with the service and the attitude of the people that work there. When I have ordered take out on the phone, the phone etiquette of the person on the other end is almost always horrible. Reviews are far more cheery about this place and its menu than is warranted. We arrived about 9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, choosing it b/c of reviews here. One other table was occupied with a family, crying baby and all. This place lacks ambience, charm and any semblance of a welcoming, pleasant dining atmosphere. We found service barely okay with the two servers on duty being borderline surly. One worked on vacuuming the floor with a "lollypop" in her mouth while two kitchen workers sat nearby at a table "closed" in memoriam to someone, complete with a vase filled with dead and dying flowers. We ordered, pizza, of course. It came about 20 minutes later, served on what looked like a plastic tray from a high school cafeteria with a piece of wax paper as a base. How attractive! Indeed, the crust was flaky and the sauce slightly sweet. This was fine for the first slice but beyond that, the taste and texture became annoying. The lollypop-wielding-vacuuming server did little to add to the ambience. Nor did the tiny bathrooms located on one edge of the dining room. No hiding where you are going! I'm all for "local color" when it comes to a small restaurant; regardless of its specialty. This place's signature dish -- pizza -- is a bit weird and obviously enough people like it. But as far as my tastes, the pizza was bizarre made even more so by the disinterested help, sloppy housekeeping and lack of any sense of pride or taste in decor. Should you go, I hope you find the experience more pleasant than our's. read more

Been to this place in the past, the food was so-so ... not one of those "you gotta go there" local places. Was going to try again - but for the last few months, this place had a giant Presidential Campaign sign in front it. It's like the owner doesn't really care about having customers - or at least, having customers who don't think alike. Why would a business do that unless it doesn't really care? Latrobe is a hospitable town where everyone is welcome. A giant political campaign sign is saying to at least 50% of the customers that "we don't want your business". I don't care who the business owner supports politically - but do you really have to be "in your face" about it? Can you imagine a pharmacy, grocery store, car dealership putting either a Trump or Hillary sign up? It's bad business and bad attitude. To me, it's a reflection of a place that doesn't particularly think from the customer's perspective - and it shows in the food. read more

So I've been a regular here for many years and the pizza is great it was great on our most recent visit. Here's what wasn't great ... Our service. We were seated and our drink orders were taken immediately. Give or take 5 minutes and we had our drinks. We ordered a large pepperoni pizza for dinner (simple enough) before we knew it we were done watching the 5:30 news and on to the 6 o'clock news. Then the 6 o'clock news was over and we flagged down our waiter to ask him how much longer (he never came to say hey, sorry it's been so long can I get you anything?) so he said he would go back and check. Then when he arrived back at our table he said it just came out of the oven it'll be out in a minute (lies, it took 9 more minutes) we ordered at 5:32 and our pepperoni pizza arrived on our table at 6:57 yep that long for a pizza. No apology. No explanation and they were dead. So will we go back? Not a chance in hell when we are treated like we don't exist. read more

I will add to this pizza legend. I grew up about 8 miles away from Jioio's, and first was fed this by my parents, I guess Papa Jioio was an esteemed chef at one of the local Western PA Italian restaurants, and decided to open his no-frill, all thrills joint. This place really is a microcosm of Western PA. Most folks in there are yinzers. Talk of the Steelers training camp, the latest business to leave town and deer hunting are popular topics. The taxidermy reminds you of your not-so distant working class roots (although you refuse to let people in your metro area of choice see these roots.) I now only come back to Western PA for family events, maybe 4 - 5 times a year. I make sure to detour my way into Latrobe to eat this pizza. Everything Sarah A and Brian T (my new Jioio's friends!) said about the pizza is spot-on. I need not explain it in any greater detail. The debate over the pizza is like democrat vs. republican. Feelings run deep on both sides. The pizza truly is a masterpiece. But, I have eaten the other foods on the menu, and I will elaborate on these. First, the chicken parm - AMAZING. OK, it is breaded (homemade) chicken tenders, but these are buried in mushrooms and covered with about 2 lbs of cheese and delicious homemade marinara. This is not to be missed. As for the side salad, I feel Brian has not done this justice. Sure it is mom and pop iceberg lettuce - no bibb lettuce and arugula here. But go ahead and ask for crumbled Blue Cheese and the house vinegarette, and what you have is a delicious balancing ying to the prophetic pizza's yang. The misc-en-scene really does finish this place off. It is all about our roots; family reunions, buying corn off a wagon, rooting for the Steelers, going to Idlewild and classic pizza. This used to be my favorite place to visit every time i came to town. We went last night and had horrible service. The food was great once we got it but we had to wait almost 2 hours. The waitress never came to check on us, never refilled our drinks without us having to flag her down. The manager was not friendly when we tried to explain what was going on. I am from out of state and come up to Latrobe every couple years. I will not be going back to Joios. I'm also going to write letters to owners for the horrible service and treatment. read more

My first dining experience at Jioio's will be my last. The sweeter sauces my be an acquired taste and should not be advertised as traditional Italian. Even the pizza crust was sweetened. The service was less than average and the menu prices were a little high. We paid A 5.99 for child's portion of plain pasta (no sauce) and when we asked for bread with our meal, the server brought two slices for 4 people and added .75 cents to the check. We haven't gone back and don't plan to after we last ordered take-out from there and they were rude to us and very rude to the person in front of us. Also we ordered a single pizza and they told us it would be an hour. Any other pizza place we have gone is 15-20 minutes. My husband ordered pizza and I ordered spaghetti. This was the worst meal we have ever tried to eat.
