When I found out that they had poké bowls on the menu, the decision was made! And what a great decision that was! We ordered the salmon poké with spicy mayo. I was a little surprised that there was an extra charge for the mayo as most sushi places include it. The menu stated that the meal included salads and miso soup. The miso soup was inconsistent... his was a proper miso whereas mine was more of a bowl of hot water (see pic). We also never received the salad. Aside from the above, the poké bowl itself was delicious, the service was also super friendly and the environment was welcoming. We will definitely come back!

We ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box and a few rolls. The chicken bento was a good portion, and it came with rice, stir fry veggies, fried dumplings, salad, miso soup, and California rolls. I would definitely want to come back and try the teppanyaki experience here.

Ordered 2x Pcs Sea Urchin Sushi ($4.50 each). Ordered 2x Pcs Botan Ebi Sushi ($3.50 each). This tray consists of salmon n avocado, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura roll, snow roll, red dragon roll. The rice ratio to fish was pretty good. The rolls were all consistent and was well made and tasted good. The sea urchin had nice taste to it and price is very good. The botan shrimp sushi was great as well and price is very good too. Overall, I'm happy to share that this place actually holds up to their reviews and the product this sushi place serve I can say is the best we've had so far in Durham region. Its probably not as good as Markham, Scaborough or Toronto area, but for Durham its #1! May want to dine in there some time in future, but its good to know take-out here will be solid choice.

This didn't sit well with us, so we had looked to Yelp to find another venue and Nichiban Sushi 4 U popped up. I never heard of Nichiban before, but I instantly recognized the location as another favourite food joint is located adjacent to them (Fat Ninja). We decided to give them a try. I can't say we weren't a bit hesitant when we arrived as they are located at the back of the plaza, away from the limited street frontage the plaza could afford. However, I can say with confidence that we were very happy we ate at Nichiban! The service was great, the prices were excellent and most importantly, the food was spectacular! The ingredients were very fresh and full of flavour! The bento box I ordered was well prepared and the food was just right. The chicken katsu was extremely tasty and the gravy was delicious! I loved the tempura: just enough batter to be flavourable and not overwhelming. I could actually see the vegetables underneath the batter, unlike other restaurants that simply oversaturate the batter. The sushi plates were also very good; the sashimi was ultra fresh and the presentation was great! Someone ordered the beef teriyaki bento box and everything was just right! Overall, I would highly recommend Nichiban to anyone who adores Japanese cuisine - excellent tasting food and great pricing will make you a believer!

Luckily, I got there just before the end of their lunch specials. I ordered their Lunch Bento Box 2 with Teriyaki Chicken that included California rolls, salad, rice, miso soup, and deep fried scallops. I substituted gyoza instead of the scallops. The miso soup offered some warmth on this cold day. It was simple but flavourful. The rest of the meal soon followed, presented in a typical fashion in a bento box. The presentation was nice but the teriyaki chicken appeared differently from what I'm used to seeing. Rather than stir-fried pieces of chicken, it appeared to have been cooked, partially shredded, and then sauced. It was also a bit dry, despite the sauce. Although the chicken was barely passable, the rest of the meal was good. The service was also good. Maybe I'll give them another chance...
