He isn't a very happy man, and seems reluctant to do the work. However, he got the work done and my car runs great.

Dale's Auto Body & General Repairs

Dale's Auto Body & General Repairs

(10 reviews)

Dale's employees like Ed are a fixture of Athol, Orange, and this region of Massachusetts. When I…read moresay a fixture, I mean that they're a member of the community and aren't shy to show it. Just listen to how Ed helped me out when I needed a jump, a tow, and his expertise. So, there I was, at a Sunoco near Route 2. My battery and starter had finally given up the ghost after 10 years of a powerful battery finally being unable to crank my car one more time. But how was I supposed to know after it had jumped and started in the past? So, as I parked at Sunoco, expecting to jump my car, I was shocked by the bad news, and by not putting the positive connection on first. My car wouldn't start. In the cold, I asked my tow truck neighbor, parked, if he could try jumping me. I said I didn't have any money but I had an AAA membership. Ed, his name I learned later as he DID need to come back to tow me, wasn't about to ask for any help. His job was to first make sure people knew Dale's was there and that he was, too. Sure enough, his jumper pack didn't work, and Ed has the experience to boot. "I smell something," was his remark and our common experience. He was confident I had a problem bigger than my jump. So I asked if he could give me a tow with AAA, and he said, sure, as I had a premiere membership and they tow quite a long distance. I just had to call up and see if Dale's was assigned. After I had finally found my new membership card's number, I was relieved to see who was arriving to do my tow. It was Ed!! From Dale's!! He was only a few minutes away, and maybe he informed his dispatch that I'd be calling with a tow any minute. Thank goodness if this is true, because his dispatch caring more about a new call versus a definite need meant Ed had to travel only 10 minutes to get back to me. He had space in his truck to carry me and my child who was managing this displeasure very well this day! The good news for us was that I had a ride coming to get us, so Ed could take my car to a shop I had imagined might help instead of my house. I mentioned their name in Amherst (Gil's), and he knew them, and even told me where. Incredible. I felt like I was part of a support network thanks to Ed and Dale's being aware of the area. Inside the Sunoco, I met their local convenience support, who recognized my tow truck driver. "He's a great guy," was Julie's remark, which I was glad to hear her say. She had already entertained my child and could affirm Ed would get my car where I needed. I can't say if Dale's Auto Body can do a perfect job since they seem to be wearing a lot of hats in this area. However, they aren't some external corporate body, they're local people who care about their reputation and try to do their best with what they got. See what you can to work with them, and I hope you'll have other staff as quality as Ed helping you out. Thank you, Dale's.

I would not recommend anyone doing business with Dale's Auto Body and Towing. I brought my car in…read morebecause it was shaking whenever I hit my brakes. I was told to bring the car into the shop either the night before or that day, and I chose the night before. The next time they called me, I was told that the car was fixed and ready to get picked up. I came in, paid for the service, and left with my car. However, the issue I had brought it in for was not fixed, The shaking was still happening when I used my brakes. I immediately went back and asked Dale to come with me on a drive so I can point out the issue. During the ride, he kept arguing that I needed front brakes instead of admitting that they didn't understand what I was asking for and just fixing what they wanted to. Dale would not fix the issue without me paying more money. In short, I brought my car in, and only wanted them to fix the shaking. They did work I didn't authorize, but did not fix my shaking issue. I was not given a diagnostic and I was not given a quote before these repairs were done. Very poor customer service, I would never trust them with my vehicle again.

For over two years I've been taking my car to Ben at his garage and he's never overcharged me or added on work that didn't need to be done. My baby is old and ready for retirement but I want her to last a little while longer. Ben was willing to put some work into her to make her safe. When she needed some extra attention he didn't charge extra money. He was honest about what needed to be done and what the expectations were. Edit: I decided to get my headlights buffed out at Leon Sirum, a service they offer for a super reasonable price. I wasn't driving at night because they were so cloudy. Leon Sirum did such an amazing job they looked brand new and I failed the state inspection because one of my headlights had been installed wrong all these years and we didn't know it. The inspector just couldn't tell because they were so darn foggy Anyway, I brought my car back to Ben and he quickly fixed it and didn't charge me. Thanks Ben!

What was great is that this family owned business didn't rip me off. They quoted me half the cost of the bigger chains in Greenfield and were extremely polite and professional. Ben was great to work with. The work was done quickly and the staff was willing to explain exactly what needs to be repaired. This incredible repair shop is the place to go if you need your car fixed.

They had the car for 2 days and can only tell me a quote for 1 of the parts. Apparently they will ONLY use 1 of 2 suppliers for parts. Because of this they charge TOP DOLLAR for any of the parts. I look up the parts online and discover the horrific mark-up. I asked if they can use a different supplier and get a better price. I'm told I need to speak with the owner, Greg, about that. All of a sudden Greg is no where to be found - no call back, nothing. They parked my car in a public lot for a week and charges me $30 to get the car back with NOTHING DONE TO IT! If the answer was 'no' and I didn't want to pay the extremely high prices for the parts then fine - maturity can prevail. Instead the owner decides to dodge all calls, no call backs, and no one else will make a decision on anything. Finally we have had enough. My wife and I drove an hour to go pick up her car. Greg's garage said they will leave the keys in the the car and we can pick it up after hours. We get there an the car is locked with the alarm on. This could not have gone worse. AVOID THIS SHOP AT ALL COSTS!

After ignoring warnings from friend's and family, I decided to buy a car from this dealership only…read moreto have it NOT pass inspection and fall apart in the middle of a busy intersection. $300 later in towing expenses, I went back to Clouatre Motors and asked for my money back they refused to refund any of my money or fix the car for a reasonable price saying it was a "used car and it had no guarantees". Lesson Learned- NEVER buying anything from that place again.

My girlfriend was in need for a new car, so we decided to check this place out. Out front there was…read moreone for sale, marked at a decent price. We figured, why not give it a look? After talking to the guy inside, who told us it was a good solid car, we took it out for a test drive. It ran fine, and sounded alright. All it needed was a replacement windshield washer jet on the left side. So we brought it back and purchased it, just as long as they replaced the missing windshield washer jet. For some reason, when we offered to buy it, he asked for a few hundred dollars more than what it was marked as... weird... The next day, we picked it up. We noticed the windshield washer jet was fixed, so we took it home. I guess we should have checked it out first... They replaced the jet, but never installed it correctly, so it didn't work. But that's not all... Upon further investigation of the car, we noticed that most of the electrical work had been redone under the dash previously. Instead of looking like it was done professionally, the wiring looked like it had been slapped together by a 14 year old, using wire bought from Walmart. It was also covered with medical tape... The ventilation controls started acting strangely after the first few days, and the AC stopped working. Just recently, (only 4 months later) the car broke down on the highway. Allegedly the timing belt went, which led to even more damage with the engine. Bringing it to a mechanic, we were told it would cost well over $1,500 in repairs. Bottom line, just don't buy a car from here... I have heard nothing but horror stories from this place, and unfortunately we ignored the warnings as well. The guy is as crooked as a politician, and the atmosphere is as friendly as I'd assume the county clink's to be. How this dealership has been in business for this long, may be nothing short of a miracle...
