Jimmy Spice's, the multi-cultural buffet restaurant chain which started in the Midlands, continues its spread into the southeast by opening its latest restaurant in Wimbledon last week. It follows the pattern of their other restaurants, serving up Indian, oriental and Italian food, mainly buffet style but supplemented by a few live cooking stations such as the noodle stir fry, where the chefs will fry your chosen combination of meat, veg and noodles with a sauce of your choice. The restaurant itself is very bright and airy with high ceilings and big windows. It does tick many boxes but I would still only recommend it for big parties - the buffet makes sure everyone is well-fed, the split of the bill is easy to calculate at the end of the evening and there will be no fighting over what style of food to go for. However, for me, the food is average and I can only give it 3 stars read more

Curry, Pizza, Salad..... ...Marshmallos, lasagne, ice cream, noodles. A huge restaurant opposite Wimbledon Theatre priding itself on the exploration of around the world cuisine. It's a sure bet for large groups with bits and bobs to please everyone and a good selection for vegetarians. The set up is quite impressive, large hot plates, desert bar and chefs in white hats wandering around asking if you need any advice about what to try. Now, I can imagine what it's like when the restaurant is full on a weekend, and I can see why the place gets a bad rep here. But, I went of a Tuesday with a friend for a nice catch up meal. We were starving and needed a hole filling... and boy did Jimmy's do that. Cheesy Music, lots of families... but if you know what you're going in to... good clean fun all around. Top tip: Tip you waiter... they deserve a pay rise for the uniforms they have to wear. read more

This place has a mish mash of different cuisines and usually that can be quite risky but the food is actually pretty good but make sure you're a fan of indian food because the majority of the chefs are asian so everything but the italian section has a bit of an asian infusion. It was ridiculously packed when I went and apparently thats the norm, You are herded around the assembly line like buffet and there isn't nearly enough space towards the desert section. Certain foods I just couldn't wait for as the line was so long but they looked amazing from the 25 strong queue :-) I say if you are impatient and don't like to sit in cramped quarters then fine one of the many other places around in wimbledon. read more

As an American expat, I was looking for a complimentary birthday buffet meal in London. They exist! (Surprisingly...) My choices were down to JRC Global (have been to) and Jimmy's (have not been to). I decided to try the place that I haven't been to - and that was Jimmy's in Wimbledon. The restaurant website is colorful, showing off many different cuisines they specialize in. However, the actual restaurant, is catered mainly towards Indian cuisine (I'm not complainin', I have a spot for Indian food). About 70% was Indian dishes while the other non-fried options were Chinese. They had a small taco bar that I didn't get a chance to try (no one was there to service it) and also a dessert section. The Indian food quality was good, as validated by a large number of Indian families coming in around 5:30 to partake in the buffet options. Some dishes were cold, even though they are in a fancy silver close-able vessel - maybe they just need to adjust the temperatures? If you are there, definitely try the stir fry chef - gather your veggies, choice of noodles and hand it over to the stir fry chef who will ask what meat you would like in your stir fry. Skip the yellow egg noodles - they are a bit mushy, go for the white flat vermicelli noodles. There is a chocolate fountain for marshmallows in the dessert bar, but the rest of the desserts are pretty sad. In conclusion, the overall food quality is average at best. With JRC Global, you have to come with at least another paying adult to qualify for a complimentary birthday meal. At Jimmy's, it was a complicated situation because my husband made dinner reservations for us and asked if the birthday person gets the complimentary meal, to which the man on the phone said yes. However, when it came to paying, they said we need to be in a party of six or more to get the birthday deal. We pointed out that the man on the phone did not specify this and he knew it was a party of two, with one birthday. The manager came out and made things right at the end, but there needs to be more clarification on this. read more

seriously underwhelming... i was so excited for this place, and so let down :[ maybe it's because i'm american, and used to buffets being amazing, but i found this place pretty disappointing. they definitely have a lot of different types of food, but none of them are very good. there's indian, chinese, and italian food, as well as a dessert and ice cream bar. the ice cream bar was probably the highlight of all the stations, because everything else was sort of grim.. ** they have little notes next to each food telling you it's country of origin, but some of them are so stupid it's hilarious. like "lettuce - italy" or "rice - world." that rivals the ice cream bar for the highlight... or possibly the man in a giant pepper suit standing outside. all three were pretty memorable, everything else sucked read more

However, when I went for dinner in the middle of the week it was so crowded and waiters often came to our table with wrong drink orders and they all appeared to be quite lost. The concept behind Jimmy Spice is a sound one. Do I like Chinese food? Tick. How about Indian? Tick. A spot of Italian maybe? Tick. All in one place? Hmmmm...... There's a lot to be said for specialists. People and businesses that shirk the 'One size fits all' mentality and the 'one device that does everything' idea that pervades our quick-fix society (oooh deep) and simply prefer to do one thing right. As the opening gambit of this review suggests, Jimmy Spice is not one of them. It manages to do lots of things averagely. The food is ok, with no particular dish standing out as a favourite. It is in most part, a buffet style, serve yourself from a series of troughs affair, with a couple of cooked to order dishes thrown in. I'd recommend Jimmy Spice if you're planning a night out with lots of friends as it is very spacious and the buffet style negates long waiting times that can be a pan in large groups. Aside from this very specific situation, I'd suggest picking whichever cuisine you prefer and sticking with one of those forward thinking specialists, of which Wimbledon has many. read more

Jimmy spice is another one of the local Hot Spots. There are a few dishes to chose from but still not enough. I was not satisfied with the buffet and i think the variety of foods was still very limited for a buffet. The desserts was also very limited. I was disappointed and didn't think it was worth the money. I may give it a second chance but not anytime soon. read more

The low marks are down to the performance of the staff - from placing a booking for 25 people two weeks in advance and calling the restaurant every couple of days to organise a surprise party but on the day two and a half hours before guests were to arrive at the restaurant I was informed that they might have to cancel the booking as a water main burst! They said they would update me in 30 mins but waited and waited and spent time looking else where in case but no call. I then contacted them an hour and a half before the booking and was informed the booking was still to proceed. Then later on the staff being the male waiters were quite rude and was pushing for payment before customers had finished their meals Only staff I would like to thank was a bar staff he helped carry a large cake to our table Other than that the food I had selected was freshly made but I had only a small selection of food read more

HUGE Restaurant, HUGE potential but let down by poor customer service and a poor range of food. The size of the restaurant is impressive. The quality of food was not great but what it was what I expected from a buffet operation of this nature. What wasnt good was the range of food wasnt anything like the web site made out. For example, there was no Sushi - the thing my son was looking forward to, despite the website boasting Sushi. This is not only bad customer service but it's also illegal to advertise what you are not offering. Customer service was very poor with staff not offering to help and having to be asked to serve us. They also told us things would be ready in 5 mins when it was longer than 20 mins to prepare. Staff really didn't seem to care and were absent from a lot of counters where you needed staff service. Language was also a barrier with many of the staff seemingly not able to converse normally in English. read more

Myself & my siblings came here for lunch & we were not disappointed! We all had bottomless soft drinks which includes squash or fizzy drinks (apple tango, coke, Pepsi etc) for £2.99. The food is a mix of Indian, Chinese, American etc. The food can be either hit or miss because I experienced some cold Indian dishes today which needed to be hot!! We went to Jimmys Buffet for their £10.99 Happy Hour Special (Mon-Fri 5-7 p.m.), not including beverages, and it was decidedly average. They do have a plethora of options, even for vegetarians, but almost everything I tried was either surprisingly spicy (like roasted potatoes), or decidedly lukewarm (like pakora). I actually like spicy food, but not in unexpected places, and I was surprised by it being lukewarm since we were there only 15 minutes after it opened for dinner. In addition to these, other things, like the vegetable lasagna, had an odd, incredibly mushy-like texture (perhaps due to being 1/3 mushrooms), which was not appealing. The two upsides were the servers were actually quite nice, and the desserts (especially chocolate cake, and waffle with ice cream and Nutella) were tasty. I wish they offered Coca Cola products instead of Pepsi, since then the £2.99 unlimited refills option may have been beneficial. But alas. read more

DO NOT GO. OVER PRICED AND TERRIBLE . Horrible experience, extremly bad bad service, sub standard buffet food, tacky interior, locks on toilet not working,never go there! I took my wife and two children and all hated the experience. No suitable food for children (apart from pizza and chips)! fools for mangers, fools with silly chefs hats pretending to be chefs and all extremly unhelpful. I came here when it first opened and was known as "jimmys spices". I had been to other restaurants of this chain before and to be honest, I wasn't particularly impressed with this one. Considering it was a buffet, I found the choice of food to be poor and the service not great. However since they have had their latest revamp, I'm gotta say I'm very impressed. Paying as you enter is a good idea as then you can eat and aren't waiting around for the bill after. However it is slightly annoying having to go to the bar just to Order a drink should you want alcohol. They have bottomless soft drinks, in a variety of flavours and bottomless slushys which as you can imagine is a great hit with children! The food choice has improved massively (especially the desserts) with more worldly cuisines available I personally prefer to eat the nibble starter type foods from all the cuisines, however I do enjoy the freshly stir fried noodles and masala dosa! However I've always felt like the service is a bit poor here. The chefs are probably friendly than the waiters (even though they don't do much waitering anymore, just clearing tables). Every time I've been here it's been predominately male based and they always seem uninterested and lazy. read more

We came here as a post birthday meal because it was close and with our Gourmet Society card the food bill would be discounted 25% so for £10 we didn't think we could go wrong. Booking on the phone was easy, the guy we spoke to was polite booked us in under a minute, so that was pleasant. Upon arriving the restaurant was large and nicely furnished. There were lots of staff and many chefs on show which was nice and the decor was modern but that was the best thing about the restaurant. We were seated by having a table pointed to, so we sat down. No drinks were taken, the guy who pointed at our table just walked off. We sat there for 7 minutes as many servers passed us and ignored us as we tried to flag them down until we finally decided to just get some food. The choice wasn't what I expected at all. The website advertises world cuisine and this was not it in any way. The Tex Mex section had no Tex Mex, just three deep fried Indian bites (Chicken Pakora, Fish Bites and Onion Bhajis). The Bhajis were awful, they tasted like potato and flour, they were claggy with no crisp at all, however my friend found them edible. The other world cuisines was three Chinese dishes, three Indian curries that all tasted the same, one Mongolian prawn dish which although it was delicious it didn't taste Mongolian. The only redeeming features on the food was the fresh cooked teppanyaki and the fresh naans, both of which was delicious. They also had a whole roasted salmon which was inedible due to either the staff or customers mashing all the bones through the entire fish. I don't understand why something like the salmon isn't watched over, and the bland unwanted tacos are. Finally whilst eating someone came over to ask if we had ordered drinks yet. I replied 'No, but we would like to' and he semi nodded, walked off and never returned. Finally around five minutes later we did flag down a server named Marina (or something close, sorry i've forgotten) who quickly got us drinks and cleared our plates through the rest of the night. In fact, she was the only server there who made our meal a little enjoyable and combined with the decor is the only reason this meal did not get only one star. The majority of the food was bland and had clearly come from the freezer. I think very little of the food is actually cooked fresh and the chefs and servers don't enjoy their jobs. If you're hungry and happy to fill up on Iceland standard food and don't care about interacting with servers then you'll be okay with this place but otherwise I would avoid. Oh, and the prices of drinks are the highest I think I have ever seen. A 1ltr bottle of STILL Strathmore is around £3.50 and soft drinks are over £2. The food is purposefully oversalted to encourage your spending on drinks so keep this in mind before going. If we had not received 25% off our food then I would have been incredibly annoyed with wasting my money here. We shall be returning to our usual buffet in shepherds bush like before and in future I'll be listening to the reviews. read more

Jimmy's is a great place to go when your in a group as you will have an excellent selection of fresh food Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Thai to name a few and therefore can cater for even the fusiest of eaters. There is also a huge selection of desserts and even an ice cream stand where the chef prepares an ice cream mixed in with your favuorite toppings. Highly recommended read more

Reception / welcome host obviously did not want to do the job - should have taken this as a big hint. Standard of hygene throughout was poor, particularly the ladies and the tabletops. Cutlery was taken off dirty plates and placed on the table between courses. Complained about the dirty table but was not cleaned or even offered to be cleaned. Many items had not been re-filled at 8pm (Tuesday evening, only circa 16 other people in restaurant) - salads had had the more expensive ingredients extracted leaving only poor quality lettuce etc soaked in dressing. Pasta dishes prepared for display had obviously been there all day and looked slimy. All the food was oversalted to such an extreame that some items were inedible. The cola bought to slake thirst was weak and watered down. The waiter ignored three requests for table/tap water. No obvious management, no one on the welcome desk as we left to complain to. read more

Our occasion was a family birthday dinner, it was our first time with Jimmys and it will be my last. I have to say I loved the touch of the chefs cooking their individual cuisines on site, because you could see from the contemptuous looks on their faces that the food bore no relation to the countries they were supposed to represent. The Indian food in particular was shocking. On the bright side, the teenagers loved it, but then I remember eating and loving any old rubbish when I was a teenager. Thanks but no thanks. read more

the best jimmy's spices buffet restaurant is in sutton colefield in birmingham, uk! go and check it out for yourselves and you would want to go back again and again! fantastic foods, deserts etc etc. and everything halall too. cannot fault this restaurant! 10/10. you cant starve there, you can eat as much as you want! i would like to try the one in wimbledon - since i moved down here in london, but i noticed from the reviews i read, it is not totally halall, and not as good as the birmingham jimmy's!! however, will give it a try soon! please make sure that the foods are labelled - to show which one is halall or not. read more

The food at jimmy's is delicious and it's my go to restaurant for a buffet but what really makes it is the staff, particularly my waitress Hannah who was efficient and friendly when I came in. I'm quite a nervous person about eating alone but she helped me feel more relaxed and I would like to commend her for making a comfortable dining experience! read more

On my birthday 28th December my partner and I went to the Wimbledon restaurant. From the outside the restaurant looks as though it has a warm and intimate ambience. Inside, on the otherhand, it feels more like a cold industrial cafeteria where people just refuel and go again. There was nothing to make my visit feel special and as though I was having a treat on a special occasion. I was also disapointed by the food. A couple of the indian dishes had sub-standard chicken in the sauces. There were all manner of parts of a chicken in one of the sauces incuding the fatty bits that you would normally throw away- most unappetising. It remnded me of a holidy to Cuba where the chicken was much the same. However, I would expect this standard of food in Cuba due to the embargo on its trade and the negative effect this has had on the quality of their food. But to find this standard of food in Jimmy Spices in London was a surpise. As well as big bits of bone that you could easily see in the sauces, and so could avoid eating, there was also in virtually all the sauces that I tried small bits of bone that you could damage a tooth on if you were unlucky. Even my drink, a big glass of Lemonade, tasted acidy as though something had gone seriously wrong with the pipes it was served out of. My trip to the ladies toilets was also an eye opener. The toilets were in a terrible mess and looked like they had not been attended to since opening that day (it was about 9pm when I visited them). There is no excuse for this. McDonalds, who would have a much higher number of customers using their toilets, manage to keep theirs very clean and tidy. Yet, I would have forgiven them for not being able to keep up a good standard of cleaniness with their volume of users. I could not think of an excuse for Jimmy Spices I am afraid. All in all, my partner and I were glad to leave the restaurant, but unhappy that we had not gone to our local Chinese restaurant that has never let us down in the past and would have been a far better end to what had been so far a wonderful birthday. read more

Jimmy Spices is a fairly large restaurant that gives you a lovely single price (£17) for All You can Eat. They have a very wide selection of food from various continents; Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Thai to name a few. We went there in the evening for a birthday meal. First impression of the place was very nicely laid out, nice atmosphere and lighting, and busy but not crowded. The chef's were preparing some of the dishes right infront of you, other dishes where in steel warmers. But as the place was busy, the food had a quick turnaround so you are always getting fairly fresh dishes. The drinks menus are very comprehensive with beers, largers, cocktails, spirits and soft drinks. We were also the last ones to leave the restaurant as all we could do was just eat and eat and eat. They even had to unlock the doors to let us out. You WILL put on weight; be warned!! Recommendation, most definitely. read more

Went for a Xmas do. Queued for 35 minutes to buy a drink and 25 minutes just to get some noodles. they wanted to turn the table after 2 hours which was a joke. It was just a cash cow to be honest. There was no seafood at all. the dishes does not look anything like on their website. the food was really bad. made all of us sick the next day. The curry variety was mostly vegetarian like mushroom. I tried to book a birthday event for 10 people and was told everything was fine. The day before the event, Jimmys called me to tell me there was no longer a booking. Why suddenly was there not a booking anymore if I had already booked the event? I was not told. Then, I tried calling another branch (a branch I had previously called) and was told there would be a booking fee per person. Why is there suddenly a booking fee? I was so annoyed, I wasn't getting any answers from the staff and this was all the day before the event. I will not be going there again. read more

A group of friends and myself went to Jimmy Spices in South Wimbledon last night. We arrived about 9.30 only to be told that were closing at 10.30 - we should have left then after this sort of reception. We had to ask for another table as our seats were sticky - the next table wasn't much better. We asked for tap water whilst we were looking at the wine list - it was luke warm! The staff ranged from surly to sluggish. We had to ask for chicken to be put into the butter chicken and lamb to be put into the Rogan Josh - otherwise they were just sauces, which caused more eye-rolling from the chefs. The starters were all deep fried and over done. The Chinese and Italian section - don't even bother and if we had had the Thai green curry I think we would have all been ill - it smelt so bad. Really spoilt our night - AVOID AVOID AVOID. Go to Cento just up the road - had an amazing meal there the night before for £12.95 and the service was excellent! read more
