Ethan, Rufus, and I took a road trip north to the coal region today to visit Jimmy's Quick Lunch . My son and I barely fit at the table and had our legs tangled a few times, but what a great experience! They offer 3 types of Dietz & Watson hotdogs. 1/5 (5 to a pound jumbo franks -- spicy and jalapeño & cheese) and the traditional size. The fried onions I now know, I want on everything for my next visit! They were fried up by a magician, who got great Caramelization action where it counted! We both agreed the chili topping was aces . I'll be ordering the chili cheese fries with caramelized onions on my next visit. The sauerkraut was very good and generously topped the jumbo frank. We really enjoyed our lunch and all the hotdogs. I would prefer more color and cook on the actual frank. The place was packed for lunch and they staff was working their collective rear ends off, so that's a pass. When I ordered a plain dog to go for Rufus, the waitress gave me 3 "doggie dogs" no bun for him. What a sweet gesture for a pup from out of town! Well I work for the army depot in Tobyhanna. One of my wonderful military families kept saying how great your hot dogs are. I said I doubt we would get there as long drive. Well They surprised me with 6 of your chilli onion mustard dogs!They were so good. That was so nice of them. The wife's name is Gloria. Such great people. I called and said how good they were. Great hotdog spot. The pictures show it all. Old school kinda place friendly stall and excellent prices. Parking is street so can be tricky. My recommendation is get at least one dog with chili. Don't miss trying this place. read more

Recommended by locals, so I tried it. Called, placed order for pick up. Got there and immediately noticed that bill was higher than it should have been. The man slinging the hot dogs was grumpy and said " That's the way it is. " I asked for a receipt, and he said "NO we don't give receipts. Aren't you going to leave a tip?" Apparently they want tips in the jar for pick up orders. Took the food to work. Very disappointed. The hotdog buns were a soggy dripping mess and the dinners tasted like the gravy was out of a can and watered down. Never eating here when I visit this town again. read more

My hot dog was quite good. Ordered with just ketchup and yellow mustard. Fries on side. Also good. Husband's burger wasn't so good. Had a warmed over taste. He got onion rings which were OK. Service was slow. While we did see friendly faces and welcoming greetings from other waitresses, ours seemed to be having a bad day. No eye contact. Menus tossed on table without a word. That sort of thing. Definitely an east coast, appreciated more by the locals than by out of town visitors vibe. Saw a few questionable moves in food service sanitation department. Rolls being grabbed bare handed out of bag by waitresses and thrown on plates. Our waitress was snacking between visits to tables. Very small booth. Barely room for legs under table. Jimmy dog are the best around and went there frequently! Sad that the mayor put the high tech meters out front of the business for parking! Jimmy's Quick Lunch is a five-star dive. This isn't fine dining. It's not a place to go for the atmosphere unless you are fond of curt, but efficient service and decor that saw it's heyday decades ago. I know that Jimmy's serves breakfast and standard diner fair but I have never tried it. I always get the same thing. Two with everything, fries with gravy and cheese, and a Farmer's iced tea. The dogs are done on the flat top and slathered with yellow mustard and a thin, beanless chili. A hefty pat of onions flattened with a fork on top and they are complete. You better eat them fast because they tend to get soggy fast. I've moved from the area and sorely miss my Jimmy dogs. My family has even gone so far to send them out to California. I guess everyone has a favorite restaurant that reminds them of home....and Jimmy's is it for me. read more

Whyyyyyyy do people like this place? The "chili" was akin to dog food, the hot dog was boiled, the cheese was unrecognizable, and the bun was soggy. Refer to the picture of the chili dog with cheese for evidence. Additionally, the chocolate milkshake we ordered was left in the blender unattended for far too long. It came to us in the form of chocolate milk. What a shame. I recommend going anywhere, anywhere at all, other than Jimmy's. It's absolutely NOT a destination. read more

Four stars for the authenticity of this survivor of a restaurant and the complete disregard for "presentation" - it's not how the Hotdog With Everything LOOKS on your plate (or, shall I say, the hotdogS, since you can't get just one), but how it tastes when you shovel the whole disgusting mess into your mouth. :) The BEST hotdogs in the area - and don't forget to order them with a side of fries WITH cheese AND gravy - just in case your arteries aren't fully clogged. I'm sure there are other equally good down-home kinds of things on their menu, but these are the only two things I've ever ordered, and probably ever will. You have to love the little hotdog places you find on your travels!! Jimmy's did not disappoint for sure. Bigger in size than many I have been in but they need it. The crowd seemed to be happy to be there. The dogs are spot on. Supper friendly staff lead me I. The right direction. I just asked what dog am I here for and they made it happen. 2 of the signature dog and a sourdough mustard. As always for me a chocolate milk. Jimmy's has been a regular stop of mine for many years as I travel PA. First a little background. We always called these hot dogs with sauce, mustard, and onions (don't ever forget the onions!) "texas hots". My mom loved them. Growing up in the 60's in my hometown of Wellsboro PA there were two great places, the Texas Lunch, and the Town Lunch. Both made these, both used their own unique sauce, and they were great. Yes, every restaurant that serves these has its own unique sauce, hence there are as many sauce recipes as there are restaurants. I've eaten these throughout PA and NY for many years at many many places. (Incidentally, I lived in Texas for a few years and they've never heard of them there!). I digress. These are my favorites of all time. It's the sauce. And the onions. And I've heard that Jim has his hot dogs made to his specifications, slightly larger than a normal hot dog, and not quite a quarter pound dog. In short, if you have had a Jimmy Dog, you have had the best. I bought 6 yesterday in order to bring my son a couple. They refrigerate well and can be microwaved the next day for those of us who don't leave near Hazleton. I can always buy extras and they always get eaten. Great! read more

I like hot dogs. A lot. Chili cheese dogs also. So it was with great excitement when I found out about Jimmy's at a place that work would be taking me for 2 days. We hit it up for lunch the first day. The hot dog and bun are superb. The dog is large but not too big with a nice crunch and the warm soft bun is something to behold. The chili is ... well dry seems an odd way to put it, but not like other chili I've had on other dogs, but it was a good compliment with the onions. I wish they had mustard on the tables, as an aside. The fries and rings were meh. Standard Sysco fare. Glad I stopped. Enjoyed the history and color of the place, as well as the excellent hot dogs. Is it possible to give 0 stars? Seriously this place is that awful. There was a time back in the day, when this was the go to spot and the food was edible. Well this isn't 1997, i agree with the reviewer about nostalgia. I think people are remembering what used to be. The food has become stale and flavorless. The chilli for the chill dogs is dry and has no kick to it. Hot dogs do taste pre boiled and then tossed on the grill to cook for a few seconds. Makes them taste really weird that way. Burgers are very small and not very good. The fries are cold but that wasn't a surprise with one waitress and the place packed for lunch. The service was another thing that was better in the yesterday years. Overall i haven't been impressed. Go to your local gas station, or for the same price go to the grocery store and buy a pack of hot dogs. This place may be one of the last businesses of hazleton but as with the rest of them that have vanished .... this one should take a hint and become another nostalgic memory. read more
