    Cheese Ponza Rotta

A favorite of the locals and a hidden gem. I grew up in Waukesha and loved getting these on the weekends. I've brought a few friends here when I visit my folks and they LOVE it just as much as I do. I can't stray from my favorite... extra cheese, please! Jalapeño poppers were tasty and filled with a lot of cream cheese. Nice to see they take cards as well these days.

Finished a weekend in Waukesha by getting Jimmy Grotto take out Ponza Rotta Pizza with the hubby. If you haven't been to this little establishment - it is an absolute must! We opted to share a pepperoni ponza rotta with a side of the deep friend pepper rings (think onion ring only green peppers). Still as good as I remember as a kid! This place knows what they are doing. Personally, I will always take my ponza rotta take out, because the restaurant itself is pretty greasy smelling - but I guess what can you do! Still so worth it!!

Pure deliciousness! My friend has been telling me about his love for a ponza for sometime now (he grew up eating this). When I first heard about this ponza, I was trying to picture what this thing looked like. Well, I finally got to try the ponza for myself on Sunday, 9/29/24 around lunch time. The restaurant is a cute original dive which to me are the absolute best spots. Right when we walked in, we were greeted, and the gentleman was so friendly. Everyone working was very nice and communicated well. We ordered a cheese ponza and jalapeño poppers. Our food took about 15 minutes to make and came out hot. Jalapeño poppers were excellent- hot, cream cheesy, and perfectly crispy. The ponza was served hot, cheesy, and perfectly flaky. Absolutely delicious. This may be a must stop for me when I'm visiting my cousins in WI. Hidden little gem! I'm from MN so I loved how slot machines were in the restaurant and the Vikings/Packer game was playing (Yay- Vikings!). I'll definitely be back for another ponza next time I'm in the area.

Just moved back in town and my first stop was Jimmys grotto. I got a ponza with cheese, sausage, mushroom and olives. It didn't disappoint.

One of the most unhealthy, greasiest dinners I've ever had but oh does it taste delicious. Yup, I'm definitely going back soon

The food had no flavor. The place needs to be updated to the fullest. Been there twice with friends don't care for it.

Plenty of tables when we got there, and were seated right away. It's a converted home (remodeled long ago), and there are multiple rooms for dining, which give it a more relaxed feel. The design/decor does look a bit dated. Our server got right to us. Got menu and ordered a couple of Sangrias. The Sangrias were red, refreshing, and a good amount. Given the lateness of the evening, we didn't get any appetizers, but I would have liked to try the Calamari (next time). We ended up with a small "special" pizza and the Lobster Ravioli. There were several choice for sauce of the ravioli and I chose butter garlic. While waiting for our entrees, we were served a basket of garlic bread. The bread was fresh, warm, and plenty of butter and garlic. A nice treat. The ravioli also came with a small house salad. Good, but nothing out of the ordinary. It didn't take too long for the entrees (we were the only customers), and they were hot, flavorful, and good portion sizes. Both were good, but if I had to be honest, not great. The pizza crust was thicker than we like. And the ravioli pasta was very good, but the filling was more like a paste with small pieces of lobster. Definitely could have benefitted by having more lobster. The service was very good, up to the point that we got our meals. After that, we never saw our waitress, until we were finished with our meal, and even then we had to ask someone to find them. Maybe they were busy cleaning up? Not sure. Overall, okay, but with some attention to some finer details could be so much better. Didn't end up on our "gotta get back to that place" list :(

I enjoyed the garlic bread, linguine with clams, pizza, the salad, and sausage. The red pasta sauce with the sausage was a bit too salty and I wished it had fresh cut tomatoes in there. The pizza had the best stringy mozzarella cheese I ever had. I could not believe how stringy it was. It was so good. Free open parking. Right across the street from a car dealer.

By time we left there was a line at the door. The restaurant is intimate feeling and the low light created the perfect cozy feeling. There are good variety of table sizes for all types of groups, and outdoor seating for those warmer days and nights. Looking around as we were deciding on what to order, everything that was being delivered to tables around us, looked delicious! I ordered the Tortelloni Della campagna, an amazing mushroom filled pasta dish. Everything was so good and the perfect serving size. There are plenty of options of wine to go with your pasta dish. Tried the 3 for $35 weeknight special, which included an appetizer, entree and dessert. My bruschetta appetizer was fresh and loaded with plenty of tomato. Loved the pesto on top. For the entree, I went with their famous Rigatoni Bolognese, and it mostly lived up to the hype. For dessert, I had to try the creme brulee. It was carmalized nicely and the custard was delicious, but it could have benefited from some additional fruit toppings or something else to push it above ordinary. All in all, it was a fun night with friendly service and some pretty tasty classic Italian dishes.
